Terrible service, simply terrible. The last few times we've been in they've managed to completely mess up our orders. My wife who hates onions and for whom cilantro tastes like soap ordered these two tacos without cilantro or onions. What do they do? Just make the tacos 50% onion and add that cilantro on. They also managed to completely lose one of my tacos in my to-go order tonight. Called and asked for a manager. Sure... put me on hold for five minutes forgetting about me. This was my first and last time eating here. Both service and food were lacking. Placed an order online at 6:07pm for 6 tacos. Order was scheduled to be ready at 6:19pm. Came here on a Friday early evening with some coworkers for happy hour. Big mistake, huge! They were out of every single margarita. They have 7 on the menu and yet every single one wasn't made. They told us our only option was beer. We were starving and all had already driven there so we stayed and ordered some tacos. I am self-proclaimed taco aficionado and love all things taco. I had the Rusty Taco, fried chicken taco and the BBQ beef brisket taco...all were amazing. If I had to pick a favorite, I'd have to go with the BBQ brisket taco. The beef was tender and the taco packed the perfect combination of tangy BBQ and creamy cole slaw. The gentleman at the cash register was oober friendly and engaging. He also told us about their awesome daily happy hour. I recommend corn tortillas for the most authentic experience. I waited 20 minutes to head over because your webpage said 1:11 PM. If you are going to just make it right away, tell people to get over there asap. Also, everything was labeled incorrectly, so everyone got random cold tacos, and no one in our party found any of them to taste any good -- it doesn't help when you are expecting chicken and you get fish. This used to be one of our favorite spots, when the food is cooked it's amazing. Unfortunately they've gone downhill. We ordered online for pickup. Our email confirmation didn't say anything about curbside pickup, instead it said to go inside and skip the line to pickup your food. When I arrived I noted 3 spots up front, all taken, with small signs that were curled so you couldn't read them. As I walked up I noted they were for curbside pickup and instructed you to call a number. Would have been great to know that information in advance when we placed the order. I told the cashier I was here to pickup my order, she checked and said it would be 5 minutes more. I waited. I looked around and noted 20 customers inside, only 3 wore masks. Sure if you're eating you don't wear one, but most of these people were waiting for food. 5 minutes ended up being 20 minutes. Finally my order was called and I was handed it by a worker who's mask had fallen below his nose. Awesome. I took my order home and had to guess which taco was which as none of the 10 had any markings on the tinfoil. A marker would go a long ways here. The tacos themselves were undercooked, the tortillas half raw in parts. Clearly they're super busy and rushing their orders to keep up. I love the R Taco. Fun, easy and fast. Staff seems to be good & bad at times. It's a younger group so they can be transient by nature. Whenever I go there and the taller kid named Tristian is working things seem to go more smoothly, he knows how to keep operations moving along and gives great customer service. Living nearby, I really was hoping this would be a spot that I could hit up for good, quick, Mexican food pretty often. Unfortunately I don't know if I'll even give it a second shot. To start, I don't quite get what this place is trying to be. While I like the simple menu, everything else from ordering to receiving and eating your food is a total mess. I ordered 3 tacos, and after I ordered each one and gave directions like "no pico" or "no slaw" I was asked "is that the number 8?" or "is that 14?" which led to me having to repeat my very simple order a number of times. My fiancé and I ordered a total of 5 tacos, and it took about 15 minutes to get our order. It was fairly busy, so it's understandable but I don't understand how it wouldn't be a faster situation. When your order is ready they literally just shout out your name, which is really the most obnoxious system. There simply has to be a better way. Of the 3 tacos I ordered, exactly ZERO of them were made as I had asked, and it seems that they simply try to disguise their complete lack of attention to detail and quality by putting a ton of cilantro and slaw on top of every taco they make. The order was so sorry that when I picked up my first taco, all of the contents broke right through the soggy-bottomed, sopping wet, disgusting tortilla and fell to the table. Pathetic. Overall the taco's meats were totally flavorless and low quality. Virtually no sign of any type of seasoning. The tortilla is a pretty standard, low quality option that should probably be doubled up. I would not get a single thing I ordered again or recommend that someone else try them. It's not a personal preference issue, it's a total lack of almost anything redeemable outside of maybe the sauces they give you. (Actually they have them up at the counter and you get them yourself). In conclusion, I just don't know how a place that offers you next to nothing quality will survive. Tacos are way too cheap and easy to make and make well for a place like this to not offer something really good. When Chipotle and Qdoba seem like huge steps up in quality, you've got a problem. It's all just so half-assed. Even the margarita comes from a slush machine and is made with self-proclaimed "cheap tequila." Is that supposed to be cute? I was SUPER excited to see a new eatery going into the Maple Grove area, especially Mexican. I've tried Rusty Taco via the food truck (not sure if owners are the same), but I can tell you there are a couple common themes... Food Quality... I'll hang my hat on 'average' as I was not impressed, particularly the $2.50 paid for a taco the size of a quarter pound beef patty. The nachos were not something to be excited about, as any 5 year old could make (tortilla chips, shredded cheese and tomatoes). Food Price... Between my friend and I, we spend $20. Nachos, 2 drinks and 4 tacos...I could hit up Chipotle and walk away full, content and not feeling cheated when handing over my check card. Service... Painfully slow...painful. I will give them a small pass since they recently opened; however, customer retention will be tough when keeping them waiting for at least 15 minutes and providing inaccurate orders. A couple positives. Simple menu, open environment (garage door style that open up during warmer months) and fun assortment of sauces. The tacos here are so unbelievably good! The only downside is that the tacos are super cheap so if you get carried away with the amount you order it can get pricey, those $3 tacos will get you! One main thing that made me give this place the 5th star was the fact that they allow dogs on their patio, but not only that, when I visited the employees were so nice that they even gave our pup a couple of treats for being so good! With having a puppy I was a little nervous of bringing him as I didn't want him to eat scraps from under the table, but their patio was super clean, there were barely any crumbs on the ground which we perfect! Back to the tacos, I practically tried almost everything on their menu, but my absolute favorite was the shrimp taco! Knowing that they allow dogs, have a great and friendly staff and amazing food. I've been to the Rusty Taco 3 or 4 times now and wanted to give my two cents to anyone willing to listen, err, read. First off, they have some awesome street tacos, a couple of good beers, TVs, and what looks like could be a fun patio. That being said, they have some tacos that could use some work. My favorites are the shrimp taco and the fried chicken taco as they are sooo good. As someone else said the price is pretty standard and I'm good and full with 3 tacos. I love sauces and they have 3 hot sauces that are pretty good to add a little kick if you want. I haven't tried the nachos but i know they fry their chips in-house and keep them in a warmer until they serve them. A couple of the downsides of this place are that a couple of the tacos are kind of plain (the beef ones). They could definitely add some more substance to make them better like the tacos i mentioned above. Also, the egg/breakfast taco's use the pre-mix egg stuff and they fry them on the grill and they end up coming out green colored. I am curious how this place will be in the summer as I wouldn't mind stopping in for a couple beers and tacos on the patio on my way home from work. One last thing is they have a rewards program so every visit you can get points towards free food and they also send out text coupons (just got one for 25% off next visit). Fast, fresh, made to order Mexican food in a friendly and casual environment. I've been to this restaurant several times, and I have not left disappointed. You can order a variety of tacos, including fried chicken, ground beef, and beef brisket tacos. All are made to order, and made fresh right in front of you at the bar. They have beer, margaritas, and a kid friendly menu. They also have a really nice patio you can enjoy on the nice spring and summer days. Try the breakfast taco, I believe it is available all day and is a real treat. You can also add avocado to any taco for a small fee. I ordered 3 tacos and chips and queso. The tacos flavor was good, and the meat portions were very generous. I ordered pork, brisket and chicken fajita. The problem I have and why the 3 rating is that each of the meat was incredibly dry. Even with drenching in their sauce it was almost too dry to eat. Came here for dinner and ordered a fish taco and an egg and chorizo taco. The fish was soggy and greasy and the chorizo was burned to the point that it was inedible. Unfortunately they had to start up a fresh batch of fried fish and one of the line cooks kept reminding me that this was the case in an exasperated tone of voice. Mexican chorizo can be hard to cook properly but I was so disappointed that I could not eat the taco at all! That being said I will probably give some of the other tacos a try. read more
