We have always wonder what this place is like as there's long line of cars waiting outside for their drive-through. I think it's kind of like Chipotle but it's more like Taco Bell. Was a little disappointed that the salad bowl had no veggies. My kids liked their cheese quesadillas. We also ordered Hot Chilito and a taco. And chips and guac. For local Americanized Mexican fast-food, Zantigo is dece. Their chilitos are 5 stars, everything else is like 3 stars. Zantigo started as a local establishment a few decades ago, then most of them were bought and turned into Taco Bells, but the people demanded their beloved Zantigo back. I'm not sure if I'd agree they're "authentic Mexican" because there's a lot of flour tortilla and ground beef action going on haha... but damn are their chilitos good. We order no less than 8 at a time so we can chomp on them for multiple meals. Both the mild and hot flavors are delicious. I'm not even sure what the exact ingredients are (flour tortilla, house sauce, cheese, maybe beef?), but whatever, load them into my bag. We've had their enchiladas and burritos too. They're ok. I recommend adding extra cheese and sour cream when possible. read more

Went to the drive-thru for a quick chilito and soda. And it was good as always. The chilitos are the best and Taco Bell has nothing as strong on their whole menu. And I appreciate they have diet Sr.Pepper as a choice as I don't like Diet Pepsi. However, the tacos have gone down hill in the 40 years I've been eating them. Flavorless with very little meat. Whenever I get the hankering for some bad decisions this is where I swing through the drive through. Just like the terrible internet relationship I experienced similarly this man-child introduced me to the infamous chilito. The chili to is a flour tortilla with cheese and possibly meat like sauce in mild or hot all rolled up into an easy to snack on while driving bad idea that tastes pretty good to begin with. Just like that internet romance. Don't look too close though! I've had a burrito and some tacos here too. Nothing to write home about, but decent, flavorless, gringofied perversions of Mexican dishes that will pass in a pinch. Just like dating that internet dude satisfied a relationship-lite passage of time so too can these "food" options. For taste and service I thought Zantigo was really good. It's kind of like a mom and pop shop and it's not as polished as big chains but the servers had smiles and seemed to enjoy their jobs (even if they didn't they were friendly and polite). I had a Nachos Deluxe with taco meat (beef) and the chips were very crisp and it had real melted cheese -- not that 'cheese sauce' stuff that Taco Bell serves. The refried beans were good and it tasted fresh and had good flavor. Besides that -- the price was pretty inexpensive. I live out of state but if I were nearby I would go there regularly. read more

I have only been to this location twice. Drive thru only. First time got some amazing food. Second time the food was okay- but the customer service was top notch. The woman working the drive thru deserves a raise. I am not sure of her name- but it was 9/14/21 around 3pm. The receipt said host is Jastine. I liked the barbacoa grande burrito the first time around. The second time it was just fine. Nothing I would write home about. The mild chilito with extra cheese and sour cream was delicious. Tigo fries were bomb, even the next day reheated in the oven. Taco Burrito was my least favorite. I won't be ordering that ago. Next time I will try something new, and I hope I run into the nice lady in the drive thru. She honestly made my day. I have been here a few times, over the past few years. Of course it has always either me getting take-out or coming home with a burrito waiting for me. Their food is always a treat. They take their time to get their food right. Even though their burrito is big, they are able to fit a lot of ingredients inside. Plus they do not skimp on the ingredients. There is plenty of salsa, lettece, cheese, tomatoes and sour cream to keep satisfied throughout my meal. Plus with it having a fresh taste to it helps keep my taste buds satisfied. Of course just having one of their burritos really does fill me up. Of course my meal wouldn't be complete without some tigo fries or a chilito to go with my meal. This food is even better than even better than the other fast food places in the area. When I have been here, the employees have been not only a joy to talk to, but helpful when I have been ordering my food. Even if it took a few extra minutes it was definitely worth the wait. Can't wait to go back, maybe to another burrito or even some tacos, with a chilito of course. read more

This is the worst Mexican food I've ever tasted and it's even worse than taco John's if you can believe that. The hot Chilito Had no flavor and I was charged an extra $.50 or sour cream. I admit that even though Im a huge fan of Mexican food, I avoided Zantigo for many years. I used to see the building across from the CUB (once a Holiday) and thought it looked like a low-budget spot crammed into an old Pizza Hut. A few years ago, however, a co-worker of mine was singing their praises and convinced me to check it out. Ive made it an occasional stop ever since then. For those who arent familiar with Zantigo, it is indeed a fast food restaurant. They have a similar menu to Taco Johns and the pricing is somewhere between Taco Johns and Taco Bell. But, in my opinion, the quality is far superior to bot. I particularly like the regular taco. It's far superior to the crunchy tacos at any fast food Mexican place Ive had. They also have Tigo Fries which are the same as the Potato Ole--I like those too. It's too bad there arent more of these around the city--they all seem to be on the "other" side of the river. But, it definitely is a good option for Mexican fast food if you have a choice between the three. I would also recommend getting a rewards card if you plan on stopping by regularly. Pros: Excellent quality compared to TB and TJ's, inexpensive, tasty tacos, multiple locations Cons: I wish there were more of these in the Minneapolis area, not as cheap as Taco Bell (but not as expensive as Taco Johns) read more

As others have mentioned, Zantigo's is a fast food Mexican joint located right off University in Fridley. I had never heard of the place until a co-worker suggested it for lunch. I have been here a number of times and I would really give the place 3.5 stars, but I am going to round down to a 3. Okay, here's the deal. I have tried a number of things off the menu: the chicken quesadilla, chicken and veggie burritos, and the ever popular chilitos. Honestly, the combos are a bit pricey for what you're getting. A quesadilla and a medium soda is over $7 with tax. I realize this isn't bank robbingly expensive, but I can get a better quesadilla at Panchero's for the same price or a really cheap quesadilla for less than $3 at Taco Bell if I'm feeling really cheap. I mean, for $7 I can get a giant burrito bowl at Chipotle. What this really boils down to is that Zantigo is not in my top three picks for quick service Mexican. The chilitos are good, but you need to use a ton of their hot sauce to give it flavor (and that's even when you order the hot chilito). The hot sauce here is really good, though! The 'Tigo fries are good but always wayyyyy too salty. One tip: NEVER go through the drive-thru unless you have time to kill. It has been SO slow every time I gone through it. One time I purposely sat in the line rather than going inside because I knew it would help me finish my current episode of "Serial" before getting home. No joke, the drive thru has taken up to 10 minutes with only three cars in front of me. Zantigo's is ultimately an okay place for some fast Mexican, but it does leave some to be desired. read more

We sampled a few things here -- the green chile items were really good as were the pulled pork tacos. The items that are similar to what you might get at a Taco Bell/Taco John's, like a ground beef soft shell taco w/lettuce, tomato, and cheese were kind of bland. So, if you're open to try the unique items on the menu I think you'll be satisfied but if you just want a fast food taco like the one's most people are used to, you might be disappointed. read more
