Nearly a year later, I finally went here - and I wish I would have come sooner. I tried the Quesabirria ($12.99) and their chips and guac ($4.50). The tacos were very tasty and loaded with meat and cheese. The guac was pretty tasty although it was on the limey side. I had a great experience and considered the pricing decent for the quality you receive. An area they could improve in is keeping their lobby tidy. They do have a drive-through option which I thought was pretty impressive for the quality of food you're getting. I would definitely go here as opposed to the Taco Bell across the street. read more

Los Cactus blew me away, by price this has to be the best food you can get in the Twin Cities. Los Cactus is a locally run fast casual Mexican restaurant serving up all sorts of Mexican fare including burritos, tacos, quesadillas, and then some more American favorites like taco salad and rice bowls. They also have a huge array of aguas frescas like horchata and tamarindo. Their menu is so well priced, basically everything is 10 bucks or under and includes any toppings you want. I went for an al pastor burrito with yellow rice, beans, guacamole, lettuce, pico, salsa, corn, cheese and it cost me 8.60 + tip. The food was ready instantly, and the staff were so fast and efficient. For how small of a restaurant, they have so many staff working. They offer both drive thru and fast food type seating. The burrito was both massive and delicious and easily the best sub $10 meal I've had for many years. Can't wait to go back! read more

Visited around 7pm on a Wednesday evening as I was in the area. Ordered the quesabirria tacos and guacamole and chips. Food was good, however, guacamole was very limeyyyyy. Way more than I'm use to. Service was friendly and quick. Fairly good variety on the menu and I'd say prices were reasonable to other spots. There's plenty of seating to eat inside, but note, you may need to wipe the table yourself or ask for the table to be cleaned prior to eating. There's even a drive-thru option here. This has become my new addiction. It was bold of them to set up shop right across from a Taco Bell and a short drive away from a Chipotle, but I would choose Los Cactus 9 times out of 10. Every time we order, we get the chips with queso and of course the elote! Their burritos are a star of the show, but I also enjoyed their enchiladas, they just didn't stand out as much. I can't fully give the tacos a rating yet because they forgot to send salsa (service). However, even without the salsa, the taco meat wasn't unpleasantly dry. It actually had some moisture to it, a good texture, and a good flavor! Overall, I would recommend giving this place a try. I always order it through DoorDash, but when I've driven by, it looks like they have a drive-through as well. It's a very bold yellow building off of Central (where many great restaurants reside). It's a Chipotle-esk restaurant where you walk through and customize your tacos, bowls, burritos, etc. They have esquites and elotes which I love! GREAT selections of aqua frescas too. Oh and a self serve salsa bar (bonus!!) The inside dining and line are a little chaotic, so I recommend taking to go or hitting the drive thru. I have been looking forward to trying Los Cactus since they opened up recently near my home. On our local community page, people were raving about it! Many people saying it's better than Chipotle! I went to get take out around 4 on a Sunday. Parking lot was nearly full but I quickly found a spot. It was busy inside but I got helped right away! I was surprised at how many staff were working, so many! Staff were kind and quick - I was in and out in minutes. I really appreciated them keeping my chips separate so they didn't get soggy on my drive home. Our total of $18 and some change was great for two full meals. I also appreciated the free cold toppings and sides you can take little containers of. My drive home was less than 5 minutes and my husband and I dug in right away! My husband's first words were "this is better than chipotle". After a few bites, we both looked at each other and agreed that it was literally room temp. Not warm, room temperature! Less than 10 minutes of it being prepped keep in mind. That is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. It really brought down the quality and my husband ended up taking back his statement of it being better than Chipotle. The food itself was tasty and we appreciated the many options of meat and toppings. You can really customize things easily here! The chips were fresh tasting and yummy! The portion sizes were good as well. The building itself was nice, clean, and I really liked the cactus theme throughout. I also noticed they have a drive through that I believe is open for late night which is nice. We plan to try again but eat there and during a less busy time! I really like this place. It's basically like a chipotle but a wider selection. I usually just get a bowl and it's been good every time. Also they have a kids menu as well which makes it nice when you have little ones. The prices are very good. New Restaurant - Aug 2024 Los Cactus is a semi-fast food type of set-up, where you order at the counter (think similar to Chipotle's style). There is a salsa/condiments "fixings" bar that you can get fresh lime, cilantro, pickled red onions, corn mix, sliced cucumbers, etc. Seat yourself after you get your food at the counter. I ordered Al Pastor Bowl. (Not pictured) It was flavorful pork, but a a bit more on fatty side than I prefer. I added pico de gallo, cheese, cilantro, onion. You get to pick 2 sides-I chose rice and grilled green peppers and onions for my bowl. I added their hot red salsa which was garlicky and spicy. Beef Taco Birriria with Consume (like aus jus, for dipping): An order comes with 3 Fried barbocoa beef tacos with cheese. Dip the crunchy tacos in the consume soup sauce. You'll be amazed on how good this tastes! The second and third time I went (yep, it's that good), I got a chicken (pollo) huarache. It's a large big slab of corn-based flatbread with the chicken, iceberg lettuce and cheese on top. (Think like a flatbread with toppings). It was DELICIOUS! When you order, they will ask for your choice of red or green salsa (or both) to cook your chicken. I went with red salsa-it was so good! I would say it has a mild heat. I added more toppings to my huarache: picked red onions, corn, & more red spicy salsa from their condiments bar. Get their mango or cantaloupe drink. You won't regret it! The food is so good. Nice and flavorful and hot when we get it. The problem is out of the maybe 8 times my household has gone there. They always forget to add something. I'm not sure if the person at the drive thru is relaying the order correctly or what. But it's always missing a sauce or topping like pico or corn. And then we don't know sometimes because we drive off. We learned to check before leaving now but if it's busy inside, we opt to go through the drive thru but only if we're willing to wait another 15 minutes to get help. I chose to drive thru because it is less than 5 mins from home. This is my 1st time trying Los Cactus. I had a chicken quesadilla, chips & guac. The quesadilla was hot and good. I would not order the chips again, they were just ok. Their guac is good, but the texture was off for me. It is spicy and fresh. The cilantro lime rice was barely warm. Ordering was confusing because the person helping me at the drive thru did not understand the menu options. The quesadilla did not include the items listed on the menu. It was basically not as expected. I will go back again to try something else, but I will try ordering & dining in. The drive thru experience wasn't great. I arrived on Grand Opening Day for the 9:00a open. I followed an employee in just after 9:00..made my way to the counter where the woman greeted me with: we're not open. We don't open until 10:00. I showed her the facebook event that said 9:00 before leaving. No problem, so I told the couple that was coming in that they wren't open and we told another woman that had just parked. I returned around 10:30 to order and Al Pastor burrito for their $5.95 opening day burrito special. When I said burrito I watched as a tortilla was grabbed and put in the tortilla warmer. Had the thought: oh like Chipotle? The warmer didn't work so she went over to another one. I did opt for rice, it was Spanish Rice....a fun option rather than just white or brown! There was fajita type peppers & onions, I asked for peppers. I was appreciative that she scooped up just the tiniest amount of onions too. Easier for me to pick out! I also opted for guacamole and lettuce. There was no extra cost for the guac, thanks! There was another type of guac looking condiment in the end options that I also opted for. There is like a small salsa bar at the end that I didn't stop at. I appreciate that the ordering counter is essentially divided, so two customers can be helped at once, helping the line move quicker. The staff were friendly and efficient. The burrito? So good and so filling! The item that there was the most of in my burrito and was not skimped on? The meat! There was so much of it in there! This restaurant used to be an Asian restaurant that was owned by my coworker family. We used to grab food from there when we were in the area. When I drove by, I was surprised a Mexican restaurant has taken over. We stopped by the other day and was surprised they were more like a Chipotle. Go up to the counter and you'll see the spread of toppings. I ordered street tacos, they were pretty good. My daughter ordered burrito bowl and she said she can only taste the rice. My niece ordered the burrito and she said she can only taste the beans. I'm not sure if the rice and beans was more seasoned than the meats? There's a salsa station in the end where you can help yourself to sauces, pickled onions and jalapeños, and other toppings. Service is really quick, they have 2 lines to choose. Literally go anywhere else, I ordered online, it told me it was going to take 40 minutes for the order to be ready and to pick up inside the store. I show up to pick up the order and I have to wait an additional 30 minutes in line behind people that haven't paid or ordered their food. Once I receive my food, it's soggy and cold obviously because I've been waiting for food that was made 30+ minutes ago. Not worth the money or time I've spent. Taco Bell is across the street and it's more worthwhile. A simple remedy for this issue would to be either not allowing online orders after the lobby closes or respect the time of those who place the online order, since I've already respected the 40-minute wait time to pick up my order. read more

Regret downgrading to the mild salsa. For the barbacoa bowl my options included rice/beans (was not sure what the other choice was). Then Pico de Gallo, guacamole (no extra cost), cilantro, lettuce. Even though I was not blown away with my first experience I knew it would be miles better than some fast food drive through that was open. I found them closed by 9:55 after making the trip.
