Our early experiences with Mucho Loco were not great. But we tried the restaurant a month or so again, and now we've come back 3 or 4 times. The service is friendly, attentive, and fast. We've really loved our servers - who enhance the experience. The food is good - though I will say we are American-Mexican cuisine eaters, and don't swerve too far away from that. They have a large menu with many options. I love their complimentary chips and salsa! The atmosphere is bright and fun. The dining area is kept very clean! Customer service gives them 4-5 stars. They are extremely friendly and nice people! Restaurant was FREEZING. We asked to turn off AC or turn on some heat and they said it was broken, unfortunately. It was 64degrees (I sat in front of thermostat) so not very comfortable on a rainy MN day. Unfortunately all of the food came out lukewarm except for two plates which were piping hot. The food itself was really good, but the temperature of most and environment made it really unenjoyable. We went here for a quick lunch and they didn't disappoint. As soon as you walk in there are plenty of colorful seating areas. It's bright and cheerful. We sat in a booth where we could see everything going on. I think they specialize in quesadillas and fajitas because there are quite a few varieties on the menu. We got water, chips & salsa as soon as we sat down. The salsa was very tasty but not spicy. Our server was friendly and came over right away. We needed a few more minutes to look over the menu. I chose a fajita quesadilla and my husband got a lunch special. We also ordered some guacamole which was creamy and flavorful. Our food came out quickly. My quesadilla was crispy on the outside and the fajita ingredients were exactly what you would expect. My husband's meal was also very good. Nice decor, definitely a louder atmosphere because of the bar. The food was meh, although service was ok. Can't recommend if you love this kind of food. Beans were bland, rice was literally like dry uncle Ben's, and the quesadilla had good flavor, but there was so much sauce the bottom quesadillas slice was a sloppy mess that had to be eaten with a fork. This place has really gone downhill. Menu prices for combo meals seem to have risen about $5 since when I used to frequent the place. Received the wrong food, but was so hungry I didn't even press the issue. The bathroom floor... yuck! It had the kind of film that follows you out and makes your shoes slippery on the tile. Went there today for my daughter's birthday dinner. She had the Vuelve A La Vida Cocktail and elote. The cocktail was FULL of seafood and delicious!Absolutely worth the price. The elote was also amazing. I had the birria tacos. I would definitely order again. Everything we had was soooo good. Carlos our server was really nice and attentive. I like the food better her under the new ownership. Yea, the prices have gone up. But they have everywhere. I don't think the menu prices are unreasonable at all. Round up--4.5 stars! Haven't been here in about a year because of previous poor experiences. Tonight it was excellent. Staff went above and beyond, quick and very attentive service. Only reason for docking that half a star is that the chicken (shredded and fajita) had no seasoning and very little flavor. read more

Food is okay, not great by any means. My Carne Asada had very little flavor. They don't honor coupons. Had a physical one, issued days before use, in the same month of issue even, and was told it was not valid. When there it was hot outside, and inside was far more humid and hot. For the price and taste, I won't be going back. read more

Mucho Loco - is mucho yucko - 2 stars! I don't understand all of the positive reviews of this place. My drink was weak and my food ranged from boring to straight up lame. GOOD: 1. My food was very inexpensive. I had a cocktail, chips & salsa, a full meal, and a dessert for only 22 bucks. 2. The service was very good. My food came out in less than 5 minutes. Suspiciously fast - but still - very speedy. BAD: 1. The food mostly sucked. For starters, the chips were out of a bag and the salsa was out of a jar. I could have gone next door to Cub Foods and gotten something better. Come on, you have your own commercial kitchen! Can't you at least fry up your own chips and whip up some house made fresh salsa? It would be sooo much better. 2. My Mucho Loco Special was definitely NOT special. It was just some little deep fried things, lathered in queso cheese with some rice and refried beans plopped on the side. 3. My Three Milk Cake was dry on the top, soaked on the bottom, and remarkably bland. And they served it in the same plastic clam shell container that it came in. They just cut the top off (see photo). Sad. They didn't even bother to put it on a plate. I doubt they even make this stuff themselves. If so, it's obvious that it's been sitting around for too long. 4. Finally, my Margarita Especial wasn't very special. The raspberry flavor was good but I could hardly taste any alcohol. Cheap. I won't be going back to this one. RECOMMENDED ALTERNATES: If you're willing to drive another 15 minutes to Anoka, there are a few Mexican places that are WAY better than this place. I recommend the following: 1. Casa Rio, downtown Anoka. 2. Tacos La Paloma, the west side of Main Street in Anoka. This is a casual and an authentic, order up front type of place. 3. TR3S Kitchen & Cantina, Ramsey. 4. *sighs* I wanted this to be soooo great and it so wasn't. New to MN from Los Angeles...let's start there. I missed eating authentic mexican food. It seemed every place i went that had a mexican option served it like taco hell all gooed up with sour cream, shredded cheese, ice berg lettuce, tomatoes and gross store bought salsa. Like what??? no. Just no. How'd i get here? oh yeah... so I got this really cute little welcome package from the Chamber of Commerce for the city. Some great coupons, some gift certificates and so much more to officially welcome me. It was nice. One of those gift certificates was from Mucho Loco, it read "Authentic Mexican" i raised a brow and then said, meh...I'll give it a shot. My husband and I ordered chips and queso to start with a margarita and cosmo. Drinks were good, pretty strong. Then again, most drinks are watered down in LA and they charge 28465873456 dollars for a dixie cup. ANYWAY, not bad at all. Chips were good, not great but good. Queso was a little too runny for me. I am used to it being thicker and sticks to the chip. (don't skimp guys!) We then ordered our entree. We shared a Texas fajita plate and each got elote. Elote was pretty damn good. Nice firm corn, sweet and tangy flavors. The fajitas were fairly good as well. Not fabulous, but fairly good with some good flavoring. I did not eat the veggies on them, i instead asked for onions and cilantro on the side. Meat was good, not over seasoned but yes, tasted authentic. Then we ordered the fried ice cream, very tasty of course. I did enjoy. Our server was really nice and they promptly exchanged a drink I ordered in error (pointed to the wrong thing, menu was upside down oops) They checked on us a couple times but the place was really really busy and that was a bummer since they seemed short handed and a little chaotic. We enjoyed some conversation, laughed a bit and then went to pay. HERE ladies and gentleman it went south for us. The manager (who was from South Cali btw) started to explain that gift certificate for $15 was no good with them. WAIT what?? He points to the logo, "not even the same" he says...I am like, dude, no-one was comparing logos. He goes on to explain that the new owners have asked the Chamber of Commerce to stop sending these out because they don't honor them and they were from the previous owners, not them. He then goes on to say they hadn't stopped sending them out and he couldn't honor it. Meanwhile...get this ... there are 10 gift certificates sitting next to him attached to receipts. Seriously my guy? I just said, I'll pay for the dinner regardless, like it was only 55.00 for two people. I had already wrote down a 15.00 tip for the server since I was saving 15 with the gift certificate (pass it down theory) and although I didnt change it, I feel like if this happens so often, maybe they are doing it on purpose??? Bottom line is this... don 't bring your snake a$$ Cali crap here in this great little town dude. You could of said, I cant honor this but I will give you 10 off. Offered nothing but a shrug and made us feel like it was our fault because we didnt check the logo. Will we go back? probably not. Will it matter? Probably not. A colleague and I ate here for lunch one afternoon as it was extremely convenient to our client. The restaurant is located in a shopping center so fairly easy to find once you get into the parking lot. The décor is the typical Mexican style so nothing overly impressive here. I tried to ask if the beans were cooked in animal remnants but he didn't understand so I trusted that they were not and ordered a taco salad...extra beans (sorry co-worker). She ordered a fajita or something. The chips and salsa arrived and they were okay. The salsa was good. Our meals did not take that long too arrive so that was great since we had to get back to the client site. My taco salad was good, although I think there was animal drippins' in my beans. I didn't ask so we will just believe they were not. My co-worker said her meal was just okay; thus, the 3 star rating. read more

This really wasn't a good dining experience and I don't think you could pay us to ever return. We should have know immediately when we walked in that this was not going to be pleasant. When we walked in, the floors were slick from how humid it was inside. On a day where the temp reaches 100, you don't expect a restaurant to somehow be even more hot and humid. We were actually relieved to be stepping back outside when we left. The food was okay, but largely under seasoned and they ignored my lactose intolerant husband's request for no dairy on his food. Not anything we'd be in a rush to have again, even if everything else in our visit had be fine. The last thing, and the reason we will not be returning, was their denial of a $15 gift certificate that was issued just this month. When we moved to Elk River, we received a welcome packet that included a $15 gift certificate from Mucho Loco. The coupon was issued in August of 2023 and stated it is good for 60 days. When the time came to pay, they claimed it was issued by a previous owner and they wouldn't honor it. If you have not taken the steps to remove your promotion from these welcome packets, you should be honoring these gift cards until you do. This was a complete bait and switch and a terrible way to do business. TL;DR: Never go in a hot or humid day, expect your dietary requests (no dairy) to be ignored, and don't expect your gift certificates to be honored. read more

Service on Tuesday 3/16 was slow. Chips tasted like they had been fried in old oil. Chimichanga sauce was cold. Enchilada sauce tasted like it was from a can. We had the cheese sauce that just tasted like melted white American cheese. Will not be going back. read more

Gave 1 star because you cant go any lower on a rating! Service absolutely horrible! Presented a e coupon and with todays information technology we were told 'it has to be printed on paper'. My wife ordered the worst margarita ever and my 1 TAP BEER COST 1/3 the total bill! Chips were not good but not bad, ordered 1 meal to share after they refused their own coupon and that had NO flavor whatsoever. We were cautioned it was very hot, it wasn't hot but somewhat warm. We will NEVER stop here again... EVER! If you want Mexican, visit Taco Bell across the street, they are more authentic and 1000 times tastier than Mucho Loco! read more

There food is decent. The reason for my rating is due to the fact you pay extra for chips when you order a $10 appetizer of cheese dip with chorizo (or also know as cheese dip) why am I charged extra for chips when I order an apprizer? I'm paying for the dip how are we suppose to eat our dip if you don't give us chips? I am perfectly ok with paying for my food! However, we ordered for pick up and they gave us no chips unless we paid for them. If I was sitting in your restaurant they would be free. I didn't ask for free chips and salsa on my to-go order, I just asked that you give chips with the $10 appetizer cheese dip I ordered. So upset with the service and the up charge of $7.00 for chips! I've been going here since they opened, and over that time they've had ups and downs. I enjoy the food, but I also know it's not a typical Mexican restaurant so I don't expect otherwise. Don't go if you already have an idea in your mind what it's going to taste like, you'll be disappointed. They go easy on the spices/heat to make it MN friendly... which I'm sure some are thankful, but I would like an option to enjoy a spicier dish. The tamales are just like the ones I've enjoyed in Mexico, and oh so good! They have the best Spanish rice around, not mushy or filled with peas and other unknown veggie "leavins". Nothing is salty like other places, which I enjoy. The Mucho Loco special is my go-to when I'm not in the mood for the yummy, and huge portion of fajitas. I've never had anything I don't like from here. I took away a star because of the goofy coupons. Be aware they aren't accepted on Fridays, which is not stated on them. They have a sign on the door telling you, which is too late! I'm wondering if they've recently changed owners or something, it was still good, but it wasn't their best... and the music is a wee bit too loud for my likes. I think I'll be hearing it in my head for days to come. Was hard to enjoy my company and as you're yelling to talk, the music takes a 10 second break and everyone hears you yell something you'd rather not be yelling. Thank goodness we were the only ones there. ;-) If you go with an open mind and don't expect to use coupons on a Friday, you'll have a good experience... a fishbowl margarita helps too. ;-) read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. A lot of times when you're further away from the cities these types of places seem to lose their ethnicity, but not this place. Stopped in here yesterday for the first time and the service and food were great. I ordered a carnitas burrito and the seasoning they used on their meat was about as good as it gets, the flavor just exploded in my yapper. It seems that a lot of places don't use enough seasoning but that was not the case here. My wife ordered the chicken chimi and that was excellent as well. They have some really good lunch deals/combinations and the free chips and salsa are better than a lot of other places. My only complaint is that you usually get rice and beans both with your meal at any other Mexican restaurant, but here you get rice or beans. So I had to order the other as a side dish and I think it cost a whole dollar, O-Well, this won't stop me from coming back in the future. They also served me about the strongest margarita that I've ever had, I really appreciated that. Two people can easily eat here for under $20, Elk River really needed a place like this. I was so happy to see a Mexican restaurant in ELK RIVER!! The food is authentic as I know (recently went to Cabo and its tastes like that but not sure if Cabo is authentic anymore) I am stuck always getting the Chicken fajitas because I LOVE LOVE the sauce. I do steal from my husbands or childrens plate to get a taste of what other options they have though and they are YUMMY! Chips and salsa are brought to your table right away - and the service is great! On a side note -The location is not the best but I am glad to see that business' around it are not loosing out because Target left! Parking is a little scary during winter and watch out trying to get out people turn into that area like bats out of HE-double hockey sticks! read more

Just moved to Elk River last fall. The boy and I tried this place and were IN LOVE! Definitely our favorite spot in town! We get the "Fajitas for 2" (more like for 4! We always have left overs.) They are generous with all the meat too--unlike other places that give you less of the expensive kind, (shrimp, steak, etc.) The salsa is delicious as well and they re-fill your chips/salsa without you having to ask. Overall, our experience was average. The food was average, the drinks average, the service on the other hand....really, really good. They do not take American Express. Lupe was our server and she was absolutely fantastic. Actually we felt the rest of the staff was very good, too. For our kids, we ordered chicken strips and fries. They initially brought them a salad with chicken strips on top. Lupe was at our table when the food came out and she immediately picked up on the issue. They sent it back and came out with the strips and fries right away. I ordered the Chimichanga and my wife the Chile Verde. We both thought they were good, but nothing special. I ordered a margarita. It was made with Jose Cuervo and what I think was Jose Cuervo mix. The price was good for the size, but I found the drink about the same that I could make at home. If it wasn't for Lupe, we may have rated our experience a bit lower. If I could recommend another Mexican restaurant in the area, I would suggest Guadalajara in Rogers. Bottle of Negra Modelo, lunch sized chicken fajitas, eleven bucks, and I'm still full three hours later. Prompt, pleasant service and above-average food. I will return to try the chile relleno, which is my benchmark food at these types of places, but all early indications are that it is the best choice in town. I feel like Mucho Loco is Elk Rivers little secret. I love this place. I have easily been here over 30 times. When they first opened I was greeted with "would you like your regular table?" I have always found the staff here to be very friendly. We have always had great service. Our food comes out in a timely matter, our food and drink orders are correct, never have a long wait for anything. I love their salsa and that is always brought to the table immediately. Even when I have been here on busy evenings I have experienced great service. I used to always order the chicken fajitas and they are great. Love the flavor, come out on a hot plate sizzling. My partner always gets the Fajitas Rancheros which is steak and shrimp. Comes with rice, sour cream, guacamole, refried beans, lettuce, and 3 tortillas. I say you get a good amount of food for the price. I now order the Burrito Jalisco which is a giant chicken, onion, pepper burrito lathered in queso and it does not disappoint. It comes with rice and pico de gallo salsa. My kids usually get a soft shell beef taco that is like $2 or something which I like because I don't want to buy my kids $10 meals that they aren't going to eat anyways. read more
