Great food and more than enough food for the price!! I ordered through DoorDash to pick up and it was ready within 15 minutes. The food was delicious and authentic. We ordered the Burrito loco which had steak shrimp and chicken with black beans rice lettuce tomato and onion and 3 steak tacos with cilantro and onion. The salsa verde was so good I wish I had more. I always tell people to find five positives, so here are four more. Close to home, easy access to enter and exit the parking lot, large portions, and the woman that helped my husband was friendly. I wanted this to be a good meal, but that wasn't to be. Based on the reviews, I thought we would be safe trying this restaurant for an authentic Mexican meal; what I've learned is the other reviewers may not have had authentic Mexican food. I'm not sure I would go as far as saying it was "okay," even for an Americanized version. This Americanized Mexican food all tasted the same with only slight texture differences, overloaded with tons of oily cheese and sauce, and mostly indistinguishable ingredients. We ate some of what we ordered and then looked at the remaining food, which was most of what we ordered, and threw the leftovers out. They won't be any better tomorrow. We ordered lunch through Grubhub and had found El Toro while searching for Mexican food. I have to echo a lot of what was already stated here - the food lacks seasoning and flavor. I ordered a steak burrito. It was a very flat burrito, so it wasn't one I was going to attempt to hold. I was pretty disappointed with it to be honest. I don't understand when places try to use frozen vegetables as filler. I got the green beans / carrots / peas mix - the ones you find at the grocery store frozen aisle. The steak was there but sparse. I think I got a salad as a side? It was a very confusing salad? Maybe it was not meant to be a salad and meant for ingredients. Anyway, it was a bunch of shredded lettuce, a small heaping of guacamole on top of a small heaping of onions (which took me by surprise), along with a sprinkling of diced roma tomatoes. The real "delight" (not really) was the giant dollop of sour cream over all of that. Very weird. The tortilla chips are good, but ya can't really go wrong with those. Quality authentic Mexican food in a well maintained, clean environment. The service wasn't the best I've ever had, but certainly not terrible! The staff was constantly bring out food, cleaning tables, bring menus back to the host or being out on the floor. If we needed something there was always someone around to help us. Our chip basket wasn't empty for more than 5 minutes and our waters were always full. Yes free chips and salsa!! Food came out quickly and everything was fresh and full of flavor! If you want authentic Mexican food, this isn't the place. I'll begin with the sauce, we wanted to try both of the green and red sauce so they gave us both. The red sauce taste overdue, the green sauce is bland with only the taste of sourness. I ordered a beef chimichanga and my husband got the shrimp burrito, they wrapped it so sad. The chimichanga is so plain, no sauce or anything on top like how a usual chimichanga would look like. And then, We ended up using out own tortilla from home to wrap the burritos so the stuff inside doesn't fall all over the place. I had the most delicious chicken, cheese, and mushroom quesadilla from this joint tonight. They made it to perfection! It was not soggy at all when it arrived; which happens often with delivery quesadillas! They also serve the delicious white sweet sauce as a side for your chips - and that alone had me sold on this place. We will be ordering from here again very soon! The rice is done perfectly, and the cheese is SO good! This dish is great and I definitely recommend getting it when you come here, but they have many different options to choose from. I just moved to USA after living in Australia for 6 years. I tried different cuisines there but Mexican was not one of them. After i came to the States , i tried Chipotle and absolutely loved it and that is how i got interested towards trying Mexican food. I was so excited to try out Mexican Cuisine when i went to this place, but we had to wait for about 15 mins before someone even came up to take our order, and mind you, they came only after we called them. Once they took our order , the food came out pretty quick but the food was so terribly average. They did not ever serve us water or come out to check if everything was OK. Ordered takeout on Cinco de Mayo. Granted, I'm sure everyone had the same idea, and we should have expected longer wait times. However, there was no communication about it in advance and no one was answering the phone. AND they had everyone inside the restaurant on top of each other waiting for takeout, during a pandemic. Horribly unsafe. Half the people not wearing masks. They should have been prepared and followed 6 foot social distancing protocol / had food runners bringing orders outside. 2.5 hours later, we're still waiting, trying to avoid the other 25 people in this waiting area. I don't normally give such a bad review, but tonight I had to. I placed an online order, got a confirmation that my order would be ready 18 min after I placed it. I showed up 5 min before my time and my order was already ready for pickup. I drove the 6 min home. Everything was cold...not warm but cold. I also had ordered a large cheese dip. I received the smallest bag of chips I have ever seen for take out. Good thing I had chips at home. One last note, I ordered a bean burrito since I have never liked their beef, and I received a beef burrito. Three strikes for 1 order deserves the bad review and won't be back. read more

We went here because of the reviews. Weekend afternoon. Not busy (people at 4 or 5 tables). Asked for no guacamole and rice instead of beans. Guess what? Got guacamole and beans. Waitress seemed unapproachable so we only mentioned the guacamole. She took the plate and when she brought it back after they scraped the guacamole off she set the plate on the table and walked away without saying a word. Price was excellent. Really not very good. The host was rude, just tossed my menu on the table and told me chips are on the way. The chips were good. Salsa was hot and house made, but didn't taste fresh. There was a creamy sauce that was way too sweet for my tastes, but to each his own. My dinner was piping hot. It seemed like they threw the items (not fresh) on a plate, sprinkled some cheese, and threw the whole thing in the oven for awhile. Then they topped the whole thing with canned tomato sauce. It tasted like Chef Boyardee sauced my food. No bueno. The bean burrito was pasty. The chicken enchilada was flavorless. The chile relleno tasted like it came from a package. Of all of the restaurants in the Brooklyn Park area, El Toro is by far one of the best! On a typical Friday or Saturday night, the restaurant is packed full of people. The exceptional service, great food, and pleasant atmosphere all join together to make El Toro a spectacular dining experience. There are many good qualities that make up the exceptional service at El Toro. Right when you enter the building, you're immediately confronted by a smiling waiter or waitress. The smiles on the staff member's faces don't seem like they ever go away, and the staff always looks like they are in a good mood. The friendliness of their personalities seems like it could infect even the grouchiest of people! When you're seated, it doesn't take long for your beverages to be placed on the table. As with the drinks, barely a blink of an eye occurs before there is food in front of you. The food at El Toro is something that they should be proud of. Starting off, the waiter/waitress brings out chips, salsa, and an addicting white sauce that never ceases to be amazing. A lot of the time, I get full just from eating chips before my food even comes! However, doing so would be a mistake because the entrees at El Toro are to die for. There is something for everyone's taste buds, including quesadillas, burritos, tacos, enchiladas, and fajitas. Also, there is something on the menu for every price range. If you prefer to spend more and get one of the larger items on the menu, you can easily do so. On the other hand, if you are a bit stingy on the prices, there are plenty of appetizers and smaller items that will fill you up. The last thing that makes up the complete dining experience at El Toro is the atmosphere. Upon entering, many things attack the senses. There is Spanish music playing, sometimes even a live mariachi band. Smells of Mexican food instantly engulf your nose and make it impossible not to take a big whiff. Another thing that is easily noticed is the décor. All of the walls are brick, and draped in colorful fabric. There are lights all over the place, adding to the visual show. Even all of the waiters and waitresses are Latin, making the experience as real as possible. Basically everything about El Toro is reminiscent of Mexico. The sights, smells, tastes, and sounds all correlate perfectly together to make the ultimate Mexican dining experience. It's like having a little piece of Mexico right here in Brooklyn Park. The excellent service, food, and atmosphere also play a huge roll in making the customer feel welcome in this restaurant. Sigh.............The food was okay. I am sad however because I read the reviews for this place and I expected so much more. As I always do when I find a new 'authentic' Mexican food joint. However they are all the same. Taco's, burrito's, enchiladas, chimicanga's. I always get tricked at these places because they always deliver fresh made, delicious flavorful salsa and fresh fried corn tortilla chips. And thats where the creativity ends. I ordered guacamole that looked and tasted as if it were frozen and squeezed from a bag. bland, flavorless and mushy. I also ordered a margarita. It was made with bottled sweet and sour and no fresh lime juice. For my entree I ordered a combo that included a tamale, a chile relleno and a chalupa. The masa for my tamale was bland and dry, the chicken was dry. My relleno was mushy and flavorless. My chalupa was more of a tostada. Everything was drenched in enchilada sauce. The mexi rice was dry, flavorless and overcooked. It was just very clear that everything was made in huge batches and frozen and reheated to order. If you like acapulco, el rodeo, el loro or the like, you will thoroughly ejoy el toro. I am just really frustrated. Ive eaten and cooked enough Mexican food to know that it can be sooooooooo much better. Its just a shame that we in Minnesota dont demand more out of one of the most dynamically flavorful cuisines in the world. I enjoyed a delicious spinach quesadilla here but was disappointed with the parsimonious portion of spinach. I chose the beef option and was delighted delighted with the tender, flavorful portion. The cheese was also tasty. I was especially pleased with the tortilla, which had a perfect texture combination of crispy tenderness. This was by far one of the worst dining experiences ever! We had a party of 4 at 5:00 pm on a weekday. The restaurant was not busy. The air conditioning wasn't working and we spent our entire meal swatting at flies. After a 45 minute wait, our orders were incorrect and the staff made no attempt to fix our order. Most disturbing was the host's and wait staff's humorless and downright rude behavior. I seriously have never encountered such a horrible response from a server, EVER! It took another 45 minutes after our meal to get our bill and we couldn't get out of there fast enough. With so many restaurants struggling, I would urge you to spend your money somewhere that appreciates your business.
