YUMMO. Good food for cheap, my kind of place. Staff is always friendly. Some of the tacos I've had and liked are the brisket (regular and breakfast) and pork. I didn't like the chorizo so much but their tortillas for the breakfast tacos are really good. Tacos are on the small side but they are only $2 so I get really full off of 3 tacos. They have an assortment of salsas. My fav is the green chile--not too spicy with good flavor. Great outdoor seating so don't forget your furry friends! Parking is limited. People trying to park causes traffic on university blvd but its worth it! read more

Five stars for one of my favorite taco place is in Dallas. While I like Torchy's, rusty taco is like the smaller, cheaper, faster, and tastier version. They will refill your chips as many times as you ask and you can fill up on about 2-3 small tacos. My personal favorite is the fried chicken taco, but I regularly get the picadillo taco as well. The chips and queso are also a good choice. If you want a good taco joint on a budget, stop here. Oh, and they have a handful of beers if you're the beer drinking kind! read more

Very cool place, but the crew there are even more fun! Great vibe, clean environment, cheap and WOW...SUPER FAST service! $2 street-style tacos that were smallish on the taco inners, but tasty none-the-less. Even cooler to me, was that this place is a repurposed gas/oil filling station with very simple yet stylish and comfortable interior and outdoor seating for plenty. Parking is very limited unless you park up Greenville a bit at Desperado's (which will tow once Rusty Taco grows and Desperado's grows tired of no parking for their lunch and dinner crowd). I'll start out by mentioning that there is a very handsome young professional men crowd here at lunch time. Apart from that, the tacos were good. I got one chicken taco and one rusty taco, they were fine, but everyone in the group thought the brisket taco was really good... so I want to try that one next time. They also have chips with various options for sides and I killed the guacamole side. :o) They also have breakfast tacos, which I would like to try sometime. Well my g/f and I went here because it is a favorite of my step sister's b/f. I was really not impressed with the food. I ordered 3 chicken tacos and ended up getting more celantro than I did chicken on my tacos. Oh and I hate celantro... Good thing these were cheap. I would normally assume that this place is really good since there were Hispanics eating there but that went out the window! I was thinking that the place is a pretty cool place to have a restaurant, plenty of seating, inside and out. I love breakfast tacos. I make them at home, I get them at restaurants, I serve them to friends/family when camping. My 4 stars are for the breakfast tacos. I go nearly every weekend to pick up two - and that fills me up. I really could eat just one and it would probably sufficient but...they're tasty, what can I say. My favorites are the potato cheese and egg, and the bacon egg and cheese. I only like bacon if it's very crispy, and that is exactly how they do it. I overdo it with the red salsa, but I like the flavor of theirs. They offer verde and habanero as well for fans of heat. The counter service is quick and friendly, and though I usually take them to go, on nice mornings I enjoy their patio with Texas country playing. I have tried lunch three times, with mixed results. Once the brisket was great, another time fatty and inedible. The first time the menu didn't warn about the onion and cilantro and I ended up throwing it all out since I was home when I discovered it. Only the fried chicken taco has been consistently good. Go for breakfast, served til 11am (I really think they should push this until noon on the weekends). read more

I really enjoyed my first experience at Rusty Taco. It was 11am and there was a line out the door!!! From my first glance at the menu I knew i was NOT going to get traditional tex mex like most of us in Dallas are use to. It is great to have something different. The back-story: We were trying to decide where to have lunch around Greenville Ave...the choices...and we happened to notice a big yellow sign, a full parking lot, and the word tacos. Destination found. We got the last parking space and went inside. The place was packed for a Sunday afternoon. I liked the old car garage meets urban outfitters atmosphere. The price: $2 street tacos (several to choose from) and $1 for chips and salsa or $3 for guac or queso. We got 4 tacos to sample, chips and salsa, and two drinks for $13.53. I can only think of a few places worth going to (aka not McDonald 's) with meals at this price. The food: We tried the #1 (ground beef), #2 (pork), #5 (brisket), and #7 (fish). The brisket was amazingly tender and juicy, the beef was deliciously flavorful, the fish was perfectly cooked, but the pork missed the mark for us. The chips were crispy (and not greasy) and the salsa had a real kick - and we liked it. Overall, the high quality ingredients were fresh and the recipes were full of flavor. Recommendations: 2-3 tacos depending on your appetite. Definitely try the brisket taco. Get the chips and salsa if you like things spicy. read more

How hard is it to screw up breakfast tacos in Texas? Pretty easy if you go to this location. Had two chorizo, egg and cheese w/ one potato, egg and cheese. The two chorizo tacos were overly salty. Not quite Dead Sea salty but you're getting close. Cheese wasn't even melted, just thrown on top as if some sort of after thought. The potato and egg was no better. How in the heck do you serve a hot breakfast taco with cold, over cooked potatoes?! What they should call this is a balsa wood chip, egg and thrown on cheese taco. Bush league. This is Texas dammit, it's like the national food of the state. Weak food, weak service. Thank gawd that I'll never have to eat here again. read more

I seriously don't know what to say but OM NOM NOM. I decided to drop into Rusty's at the last minute today. I mean, I've been wanting to eat there for a minute because I have a perpetual 12 year old boy that lives in my head that always snickers a bit when the sign is read. When I went in, I looked at the menu and literally wanted to order ALLLLLL THA TACOS PLEASE, but that would have just made me look greedy. Seriously, everything they described sounded amazing, I was hungry enough to fight a bear, and I could not get over the amazing prices. The tacos ranged from $2-2.50/piece. That is seriously hella good prices. Also, they had options to drink like Jarritos and Mexican Coke. Yep, I was won over. I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt that I really enjoyed my food. There were a few execution flaws that detracted from the meal, but for the most part, it was a very enjoyable experience and again, the customer service is absolutely stellar. I definitely know I will be coming back...and I will try to leave the immature 12-year-old home because I know I'm going to want to eat some fish tacos. read more

Welp, I was right in my previous review. Eating on the patio on a warm day makes a HUGE difference at this location. We arrived at around 1 PM on a Saturday afternoon and ordered our tacos with relative ease. I chose my standard Bajas and Shrimp tacos and we went outside to the patio. The breeze was incredibly refreshing and I never noticed how much afternoon activity there was in the area. Rusty gets an extra star for people watching alone. So many bikers. Short version: good and cheap! Queso is awesome and the tacos are good. First time trying Rusty's so went all out on these awesomely cheap tacos. Tried shrimp, fried chicken, brisket, pork, and texican. The pork was a little dry and the texican was a standard ground beef taco. The rest were all REALLY tasty and definitely worth getting again... And again. The queso was awesome, and that is always my litmus test for a taco/Mexican place. If the queso sucks then that's it. Been here several times with the fiance. Its quick and easy and their tacos are pretty good. Yes, they can be sort of expensive comparing them to other joints but for a fish and shrimp taco I'll pay the price. The only down side is its not very big and there's not that much seating inside. There is outside seating which is nice, but being in Texas sitting outside during the summer or winter is brutal. read more

These are basically fancy street tacos, but reasonably priced and delicious. I tried the rusty taco, a pork taco and a brisket taco. They were all okay, but I LOVED the brisket taco. I need to come back and try the breakfast tacos....they sound amazing. Didn't get five stars just because the service wasn't quite there. It wasn't bad service, but they were a couple hours from closing on a slow Tuesday night so I think they were a bit focused on shutting things up. No napkins on the outside patio, so I had to go scout some out from the main area. And they didn't really offer any help with the menu even though I was obviously new and it wasn't that busy. Again, not bad, I just could have used a bit more hand holding. What's special about Rusty Taco? The fact that it feels like a done-up gas station, complete with Craftsman tool sheds and workbenches? Because it isn't the tacos, which are mediocre. I had a grilled fish taco and beef fajita taco. Both were served on 6" tortillas, so a little larger than I'm used to, and quantity wise its more than adequate. I suppose the larger size accounts for the larger price at $2, which isn't unreasonable until you remember that good tacos can be had for $1 or $1.25. Taste wasn't bad, but not good enough to warrant another visit unless it Rusty Taco is on my path and all I care about is satisfying hunger and not tastebuds. read more

So, amazingly, I'd never eaten here before. I don't know if it was just packed or what, but I always skipped it. Well a couple of coworkers announced they were going to Rusty and asked if the rest of us wanted anything. I pulled up the menu and there... Right there! A shiny beacon of BRISKET TACOS! I had been craving them so so badly the night before and NOW I CAN EAT THEM!? Score. So I copy one co-worker's order: 2 brisket tacos and an order of chips and queso. Goddamnit that brisket taco was GOOD. Greasy as shit and it gave me some serious indigestion (reminding me that I'm old and should carry on the family tradition of carrying Alka-Seltzer in my pocket everywhere I go, starting at age 30) but it was so worth it. Those tacos hit the damn SPOT. Brisket, onions, cojita cheese, cilantro. Om nom nom. And the queso had an excellent flavor to it! Stopped in last Saturday to give this place a try. Wish I hadn't :-( Brisket tacos- too salty and had a strange cheese with the meat. Not the best. Chicken- not bad but too much extra stuff in it that takes away the flavor. They need to be simpler Fajita- spices were too overpowering and I couldn't enjoy the flavor of the meat. Salsas- weak except for Habanero. That one is spicy but no real flavor. Just heat! Other "cons"-- Men's room smelled to high heaven. This place WAS a little dirty gas station before a restaurant. Overall, pricing wasn't bad, but the quality just isn't there. Be brave and venture into East Dallas or Oak Cliff to find REAL tacos. I had driven past Rusty Taco (4802 Greenville Ave) a few times since moving to Dallas. The building is what appears to be an old gas/service station, it has a very plain sign, and big writing on the windows that I thought said "Only Cash." As mentioned previously, this is one of my indicators of great Mexican food. I pulled in, and noticed that the writing on the windows actually says "Pony Cash," which confused me and did not help my headache. I didn't see Pony tacos on the menu; though had I, I probably would have ordered one. I walked in, and the place was definitely not what I was expecting. It was a taco place, but it wasn't traditional- it was one of those new "hip" taco joints, with a menu similar to Waco's Sam's on the Square, but with more of a take-out/fast food focus. The tacos were somewhat pricey for their size, $2 each. I'm still not sure whether they only take cash or not- I paid cash. Since I was there, and hungry, I decided to order anyways. I ordered 4 tacos: 1. The Rusty Taco- shredded pork, pinapple, onion and cilantro 2. Baja Shrimp- fried shrimp and a spicy cream sauce 3. Chicken Taco 4. Brisket Taco. They gave me the choice of salsas to take home with the tacos, I got the habanero, and the verde. I'd describe a majority of the tacos as just average. The Rusty Taco tries hard, but doesn't compare to some of the better pork tacos I've had, and their pinapple was soggy and mushy. My first bite into the chicken taco resulted in a huge piece of fat, and nothing else, which soured me on that one from the start. Overall it was fairly bland. The shrimp taco had good flavor, though the shrimp were tiny and have that "fishy" not so fresh taste that really small shrimp have. I'll try it again to see if this was a one-time thing. The true winner was the brisket taco. Buttery, juicy, and perfectly seasoned, it was just what I needed. I topped it with the verde, which paired well, but I think it could have been fine with the habanero as well. read more

Being from California, I always miss fish tacos while I'm in Dallas. Luckily, I recently discovered that Rusty Taco has amazing fish tacos! They are a little small, so I recommend ordering 3. I like rusty taco. It is what it is. Nice and easy. Good quality cheap street tacos and good quality cheap margaritas. Both are just right. Haven't tried all the tacos yet but the vegetarian options are good,and the breakfast tacos are good as well. Descent fish taco,and like they have pickled onions. I don't overthink things. It tasted good. I'm a fan. I stopped in at 5:15 tonight and had no trouble at all with parking. I actually thought there seemed to be quite a bit of parking, considering. I LOVE the fact that they used an existing building instead of building new. And I kind of REALLY love that it's an old brake shop. Where I have actually gotten work done. There is also TONS of outdoor seating. Again, LOVE that. I ordered Rajas (veggie), fish and shrimp tacos. The fish one was a little disappointing. The fish was dry and a little dense but it did have some nice kick to it. The shrimp one was delicious, no doubt thanks to the creamy, spicy sauce but the shrimp were also cooked perfectly. The Rajas taco was amazing! The grilled veggies were very tasty. The tortillas are also great. Apparently they make them there. Service-wise, I was a little let down. There was only one girl working the register and I had to wait a few minutes even though there were only 2 people in front of me. I probably only waited 5 minutes for my tacos which is totally fine. There seemed to be a lot of people working, but not doing much. I'm sure they are still working out kinks, etc. Overall, it was full of win. I wanted tacos. I got delicious tacos. I'm happy. Wow, I wasn't expecting all this hate. I think all the popularity has led to anti-hype and inflated expectations. No, this isn't Fuel City, and yes, we've been to Fuel City. It's a little more expensive, but you actually have a place to sit, the ingredients are higher quality, and you can sip a margarita. Also, it's convenient. On my visit, I did experience the wait everyone is mentioning, but they had an excuse. The registers were down. Fortunately, they explained this and even brought out free chips and salsa. The salsa, which has some zip to it, is quite good, so the short wait was more than tolerable. For my tacos, I had the fish and the pork, and I enjoyed both. The food was tasty, the reclaimed gas station seating was pleasant, and I got free chips. I'll be going back. read more

Met a bunch of friends there for dinner on Friday night, yes there was a long line, yes we had to search for parking and a table. But the food was good, the margaritas were good, but they did run out of frozen ones.... it was a Friday night. The chips and salsa were good also. The dinner was prepared in a reasonable amount of time, had two chicken tacos and two fish tacos, they were good. Like the concept of Rusty Taco, love the outside dinning. The service here is ridiculous. The workers are rude and judge-mental. I came to this location to get a few tacos and a margarita with my friend. However, the rude cashier asked for my ID which I politely gave him. Yet he told me he wouldn't accept it even though I am, in fact, 22 years old. I politely asked him to scan it and asked him if there was anything I could do but he refused. Keep in mind, I was also wearing political apparel. Not a fan of this place. I ordered grilled and crispy fish tacos and was greatly disappointed. No flavor and it left my stomach in knots! I also order a creamy corn concoction which turned out to be disgusting!!!!! I took two bites (just case I had a change of heart) and realized that if I didn't want to have a case of the shakes in the morning that I should put it down!!! IMMEDIATELY!!!
