I love Taco Joint and usually go to one of their other locations, but I was in the area of this particular store so I stopped in to grab a couple tacos. Walking in there is an ambiance to the place. It's cool and casual. It's small in size, but big on personality. When it was my turn to order I stepped up to the counter and the woman at the counter said, "You Ready?" No greeting whatsoever, just cold process. Even a little amount of friendliness would have raised this up to a 4 or 5 star review. I got my order and asked if there was salsa in my bag, (same girl)"you can get it over there" and pointed to the counter behind me, which was regular tomato salsa that tasted like ketchup and green salsa that wasn't any better, they had some jalapeno ranch but I didn't bother with it. I drove home, so excited to eat my tacos and it was such a disappointment. I ordered the beef fajita taco plate. I got a small scoop of beans and rice...whatever. I'm so glad they did. I had the 3 Ground Sirloin Taco Combo. Come hungry as they are huge. I chose to get them crispy. Very flavorful with plenty of meat and veggies. The combo came with a side of refried beans and rice. First class. One can tell they are NOT just an afterthought. Every bit as delicious as the tacos. Warning, they are addictive (in a good way). I also tried the chips and queso. Again, a major winner. The restaurant is bright, clean, and inviting. Felt welcome from the moment I walked through the door. Took me a while to open as they have a huge selection of options. They also offer Beer, Margaritas, and Wine. IMNSHO the tacos are better than any in the area. I've gone to this location maybe 100 times. The food is pretty alright, but the customer service is... surprising. The folks who work the cash register seem angry. They never smile. They often don't even say hello and just glare at you angrily while they wait for you to give them your order. Then, they grumpily ask if that "is that all" repeatedly until you've finished giving them your whole order. Reminds me of a McDonald's in the hood. The meanest looking ones are the young ladies who work the cash register. To be honest, I am kind of scared of them. Every time I approach them to order I see a look of pure hatred in their eyes. I always watch very closely to make sure no one spits in my food. As mean as these people are, they might just do so. I am from Southern Texas where restaurant workers and retail workers smile and say hello to their customers. Retail workers in Dallas are generally a bit less polite but so far, none i have encountered are mean like these folks. I sincerely hope they uncover why they are so hateful and work on themselves so that they can lead a happier life, because none of them seem happy. read more

I popped in for breakfast to go after church on a recent trip to Dallas. Parking was easy, and the interior was nostalgic and inviting, almost like something from old Austin. The staff was friendly in taking my order, and the food came out quickly. A choice of three different salsas in always a nice option. I went with the gordo burrito, adding onions, and it was a very solid take on my go-to breakfast staple. My friend went with breakfast tacos. She couldn't have been happier, citing great tasting ingredients and the perfect mix and size of bacon in the taco. None of the salsas were inspiring, but the food was tasty and extremely filling. The only issue that I have is this location is the parking outside at peak hours and the menu. If you haven't been in this location before, it can be a bit confusing when you're trying to order and the cashier wasn't very helpful with process. There were people waiting in line behind me, I didn't know what to get, so I made a quick decision. Instead of being able to try something new. It seems like it's location is good for you and small groups, but it gets filled up really fast and the parking and traffic situation outside can be a bit hectic. I recommend this place for the food. Even though I had to make a quick decision, I thoroughly enjoyed what I got. I haven't looked to see if there's a menu to review before going to the store, but if there is I would recommend doing so. From a hispanic, this will be my authentic review compared to other places I've had. The food was ok, not very good. Tacos were really sweet especially the brisket. When we went and asked why they were so sweet, they said they season with brown sugar... Really confused why they do that. Anyways, tostadas were probably my moms favorite. Probably the only good thing they have there. The price they charge for each taco is kinda ridiculous but I'm not surprised since university park is known for expensive taste. Their employees didn't seem to care that we brought to their attention the food wasn't the best. The atmosphere was pretty okay. I wasn't expecting to be listening to pop 70's while eating tacos. Pretty terrible experience at the Addison location. We'd had delivery from them before and it was alright. It was cold when we got it, but I assumed that was just because it took a little while to get to us. Ate at the restaurant tonight, and somehow pretty much everything was still cold. It's like every ingredient other than the meat is nearly frozen. Had to ask them to heat up the queso and my kids' tacos. They gave us new queso and it was still lukewarm. I would have rather had them just stuck it in a microwave. The loaded queso is actually pretty good, but again probably better to just get it to go so you can heat it up yourself. Chicken fajita taco - cold. Way too much lettuce, tomato, cheese and not that much chicken. Kind of bland and had a couple of grizzly pieces. Brisket tacos - Surprisingly not cold, but probably the worst thing I had there. They literally have no flavor other than sugar. No salt, pepper, spice - nothing. It just tastes like they dipped mediocre brisket in sugar water. Ground beef soft tacos - I think this is maybe the only decent thing I've had on the menu other than the loaded queso. Again, cold, but if you can heat them up they aren't bad. Wife had the fish taco and thought it was edible but not good. She also got a shrimp taco but by that point didn't really feel like even trying it. Overall it felt like a massive waste of money and no one left feeling very good about the experience. For what it is it is overpriced. Basically the same price per taco as Velvet Taco or Torchy's, but both are leaps and bounds ahead of this place (and I don't even think Torchy's is that great). Cost about $50 for 9 tacos and an order of queso. Would have much rather just had Taco Bell for about $30 less. Absolutely will not be back to this place. read more
