When Rusty Taco opened up last summer on Inwood, they were really good. However, my latest experience with Rusty's was subpar. They have gotten super stingy with taco fillings. The limes were cut so small, that I wasn't even able to squeeze them over my tacos. 2 stars because the veggie tacos that I ordered were pretty decent, but definitely not the greatest. If you want tacos, and a sit down but quick environment, then go to Torchy's, or better yet go to your neighborhood gas station. read more

My family and I recently met up for an informal dinner. At first I wasn't so sure about this place but I must admit I was wrong. The happy hout is great all the tacos are 1/2 off as well as appetizers and margaritas. The fried chicken club, tempura shrimp and fajita beef tacos are really good. What's happy hour without a margarita? The strawberry margarita is better than most and make sure you ask for the good stuff. Roll up garage doors when the weather is nice, Nice variety of tacos, even breakfast tacos all day flour or corn tortillas. They can be ordered individually and they have chips, salsa, queso. I want to preface this by saying that the second star is out of guilt for the pork taco not actually being that bad. As for the brisket taco and the fried chicken taco...save yourself the trouble and just go to Taco Bell. The "fried chicken" was nothing more than a chewy chicken strip topped with soggy onions and cilantro and a flavorless cheese. The brisket taco had this HORRIBLE tasting cheese on it that completely drowned out the flavor of the meat. I am extremely disappointed that I even spent a dime on that food. Great. Hard to find a clean looking TexMex option that isn't full service, but this is it. Food tastes so much better than Taco C, Bell, Bueno etc but isn't much more expensive. I love their Rajas veggie taco and their queso is amazing. So many places queso tastes like it came straight from a can with no spices, but rusty' is perfect. Generous portion for one order. Also really like their guacamole - always very fresh and flavorful. This is probably my favorite taco option in the area. read more

I've been twice. First time the chicken soft taco was really good. 2nd time it crumbled and was terrible. I don't think I will be back. They did however let me bring my dog in which was nice. read more

Loved the salsas, not overly spicy but tasted super fresh. Chips and tacos were worth it, bacon, egg and cheese as well as the fajita taco was tasty, juicy, tender meat, cheese was shredded but paired well. read more

My most recent experience happened on a Saturday. Simple order of 2beef and two chicken fajita tacos. Waited 30 minutes and watched several people get their orders before me. I got back in line and asked for my order. They couldn't find it and had to redo it after I showed them receipt. More disturbing was the fact they never apologized, seemed upset that my order was lost or that what should have taken less than 10 minutes took 45. To add insult to injury the tacos had only 4 pieces of meat and the tortillas were cold. Not going back. They get 1 star because they don't have options for negative stars. Was not impressed. Order was wrong, and the tortillas were cold. Skimpy servings of meat for the tacos. I know street tacos are not stuffed full, but I expect a little more than what was delivered. This was our first experience here, and likely our last. The one bright spot to the meal was the habanero sauce- it delivered the heat. If you haven't been to Rusty Taco before, the place does try to mimic the Mexican street taco/taqueria experience. Tacos are small (4-inch diameter tortillas) but also inexpensive. I was kind of surprised at the limited choices - it really is just about the tacos. Unlike Chipotle or Costa Vida, you don't get your taco filling in different formats - no burritos, no salads, etc. And since the tacos are small, I think an average order is most likely 3 tacos. I ordered two and was hungry the rest of the afternoon. The interior is sort of a beach-side taco hut, with multi-colored tables that look like picnic tables. It's fairly small, so lunch rushes can get crowded and loud. There is very limited outdoor seating, but it is right next to a parking lot that gets really hot in the summer. The good news is you can get a small lunch for way under $10 - almost half the price of other places. But I just don't see enough innovation, quality, or unique character to make Rusty Taco stand out from the crowd. read more

We have been going to the R Taco on Coit for years and the service and food have been phenomenal!! Today however I was house sitting for a friend and decided to go to the R Taco on Inwood because it was literally down the street. It looked like it was about to storm so I figured I'd call ahead and order so I can maybe get back home before it pours. I called and was first hung up on, like picked up heard noise and phone slammed. Ok I figured whatever I'll call back. So I did and a guy answered and asked if I could hold and I said "sure no problem", I was on hold 15 minutes. I hung up called back and it went to a prerecording. I pushed 2 to hold and after 5 minutes it hung up on me. I did this about 10 times. Finally, I thought ok, they're busy, no big deal, I will just drive over there. I pull up to the place expecting it to be packed....IT WAS EMPTY!!!! There were about 4 cars in the parking lot and a couple of people inside. What were you doing that was so important that you couldn't answer the phone?!?! I've never had this happen at Coit. I would give this place 1 star, but they do have amazing tacos, however, the service needs work. read more

Counter service and speed of service was good. Customer service was bad. The Mahi taco was bad. Bad fish. When we called to ask for a manager to complain, we were given the runaround until we finally were able to tell him the fish was bad and received a refund. Cool little place with retractable garage door for I for/outdoor dining. Street tacos are very good with a variety of types. I've sampled a bunch of them and all are on point. Wouldn't say they blew me out of the water, but for a naturalized Texan of over 30 years, legitimate. read more

R Taco is super budget friendly, has good options, and for the price you really can't beat it. It's by no means gourmet but I think compared to the other fast food taco joints it's pretty good. I really like the queso and chips and for $3.00 seriously you can't beat that price. I think sometimes the meat can be overlooked but overall I like the flavors of everything and the corn tortillas tend not to get soggy even after driving home with them. Good option for a quick and cheap takeout place (there's also seating inside). read more

Rusty taco is my go to place. I love their breakfast tacos. So easy to call in and it's always ready (and kept hot) by the time I'm there... sometimes even within 5 min! Potato, egg, cheese and the breakfast fajita taco are my favorite. read more

Not good. I ordered Baja fish tacos and within less than a minute my order was ready which immediately lead me to believe they were made before I ordered them as a mistake or whatever. I should have said something but I didn't. The guy asked me if I wanted sauce and I asked if there was sauce on them already and if it was the classic Baja fish taco "white" sauce. He said yes. I took them to go but ate them in my car less than 3 minutes later. They were awful. AND, they weren't fish tacos! They were shrimp tacos. Weak!! The breading on the shrimp was soggy, (the ONLY reason anything deep fried is worth the fat and calories is for crisp and crunchy!) the sauce was NOT white, it was red, the tortillas were soggy and tasteless.
