Breakfast was normal. Eggs bacon and hash browns. I'll say it was good. At first it smelled like cigarette smoke inside and don't know if I got use to it but later I didn't smell it. It is decorated with John Wayne pics which I liked. But the floors seem dirty so I feel like it needs cleaned up some. The servers were nice and efficient. Also outside seemed kinda dirty. Cigarette butts by the walk.

Chicken fried steak the size of half the plate..! Come hungry...

If you want to eat like a local, this is the place... warm friendly service, generous portions, and great prices... We stopped in for breakfast on our road trip since we didn't want the continental offerings at the local hotel. I had the chicken-fried steak: nicely seasoned, thick, with a side of their creamy sausage gravy. It came with creamy grits and toast plus eggs. Hubby had the omelette with grits and a biscuit. Biscuits aren't homemade, but he said it was still light and fluffy. Very filling and at a reasonable price. Only caveat, we're from the West Coast where they've pretty much banned smoking, so it was interesting to see smoking and non-smoking sections... make sure you choose the right side... Also loved the John Wayne inspired decor. Stop in and sit a spell... you can't go wrong if you're in the area. And the restaurant has moved down the road from it's original location but just down the road a bit... enjoy!

When the cook comes from behind the counter and is donned in an apron bearing the name "Big Daddy", you know you are in for a treat! The food was excellent, well proportioned and price appropriately. We ordered the patty melt, The blacksmith, bacon cheese burger, and a grilled cheese and ham! I ordered the onion rings with mine and they were the perfect ratio of onion and crunchy battering! The fries were not greasy and crunchy on the outside with soft potato inside. They serve breakfast all day everyday and are very flexible if you want lunch for breakfast. They also have a buffet during their lunch hours. Our meal for 4 adults and one child, 3 fountain drinks and 2 waters was $39 without tip. I would definitely recommend this place.

I had my first visit to this great little cafe today. The service was very friendly and fast. Our waitress was wonderful. The food was great. I loved the onion rings! The biscuits were amazing. I also really liked their coffee. The ladies restroom was nice and clean, too. I really enjoyed my first visit there and will return. I want to try out their weekend breakfast buffet next.

Very good service! We had a super sweet waitress. The fried catfish was really good and so is the sweet tea!

I will absolutely make a day trip from St. Louis to go have a meal here again, undoubtedly. The service was impeccable; everyone on site was warm, thoughtful and made sure the experience was perfect. They answered every one of my gluten free questions without even blinking and even make recommendations that I wouldn't have even considered. I was absolutely stuffed when I left; and have no regrets. The ambiance was warm, cozy and inviting; the absolute stop on a bubbling district street that has some of the best Springfield has to offer. If you're considering stopping by here? Go! The menu is extensive, generous and if you make a reservation, try to avoid the bustle of what all the locals already know-- this place is popular!
