Came for dinner. Highly recommended by local hotel clerk. Bad experience. A "steak house" out of ribeye steaks. Only substitute was a strip steak. Ordered medium rare. Very long wait for cooking a steak. Came out on a large plate looking like a tiny brick, obviously way over cooked. Told waitress to stand by, cut in half and thoroughly cooked through to well done. Totally dried out. My wife's was medium well. Steak chefs would have known when plating. They obviously couldn't care less. Waitress offered to recook. I asked for a burger instead, but was told the kitchen was backed up over 30 minutes. So they could recook my steak right away but couldn't cook me a burger for another 1/2 hour! No manager ever addressed our table, another indication that nobody there really cares about the customer. If ever you are in town go to Club 60! Excellent restaurant just down the street read more

We sat down at 4pm. The restaurant was slightly busy. We ordered 2 iced teas, one unsweet, one half and half. What we got were 2 sweet tea's. When we asked the waitress to correct it, she acted like she didnt understand that both tea's were super sweet. The food arrived and it was really good! But we'd only ordered onion rings and breaded mushrooms and she didnt bring us plates. We ended up cutting them on our napkins! Other waitresses walked past, no one offered us plates! We even had to go up front to get our bill and a box to go. Meanwhile our waitress was sitting on her butt, on a rail. No tip. I had low expectations given the location. My wife and I both agree this place is amazing. We started with breaded mushrooms with a house ranch and a horseradish sauce, 10/10 not disappointed. My wife ordered a loaded baked potato with pulled pork. I ordered a chicken fried steak with white gravy. Both of us loved both orders. On a long drive from Oklahoma to Tennessee, we stopped here to grab lunch. We were waited on by a charming Kristen R., who made us feel at home, including exchanging playful joking, yet remaining professional the whole time. When we arrived, before noon on a Sunday, we had the place to ourselves... fortunately, for them, others came in as we were finishing up our meal. But they did a great job spreading everyone around so that, though there were conversations occurring everywhere, no one had to talk loud to hear each other at each table. Food was fabulous... with they had one of these restaurants back home. I had a perfectly prepared 8oz filet mignon, my wife opted for the "Beast Burger", a combination of Wagyu Beef, New Zealand Elk, Bison and Wild Boar. Though both were excellent, I think mine won. But also not to be missed, the Pot Stickers appetizer... oh my... and the bread basket with honey butter. As first time visitors to Mountain Grove, we had trouble deciding on where to go & what to try...especially w/so many great menu choices! Our Server, Haylee was friendly & patient answering our questions! The food was all great...fresh tasting salads, warm rolls w/ both honey butter & butter. My catfish was probably the best I've ever had! A subtle taste of cornmeal in the coating made it so delicious & crispy along w/ hot fries! Huge portions! My husband had the highly recommended Pork Chop (Bourbon glazed) & baked potato. We were both happy & full! Finding great menu choices plus great service is a pleasure to find! Service was fine. Salad and bread were ok. Baked potatoes were ok. Soft drink and tea were fine. We ordered two 4 ounce fillet mignon meals to get them cooked differently. My wife ordered hers well done. I ordered medium well; it was also cooked well done, which I could live with that. But what was most disappointing was that both of the fillets had a lot of gristle throughout, thus that part unedible. As another person had commented, we were hoping this would be a jewel of a steakhouse, considering the name, its remote location, and its setting. I can't say the disappointment was a one time deal, we've eaten there probably four times. Previously, we've gotten the 8 ounce fillet, and each of those times it was nothing special, gristle. Each next time, we were hoping that the steaks would be better. Maybe Cattleman's Steakhouse needs to contact Longhorn, or Texas Roadhouse, or Rafferty's and find out where they get their most excellent tender fillet mignons. read more

Food over priced/ flavor-less Service - well apparently they don't like tables to come in 2 hours before they close. They litterly had 2 tables in the restaurant and the server. The service was amazing. They greeted us as we walked in. We could choose whichever table that we preferred. They happen to be live music going on on Thursday night, which made it even better for us. I ordered the special which was prime rib, and cheese on seasoned french fries. There's a lot of meat and cheese that queso might've had a little bit of hot spice in it also. It comes with bacon, but I had that tell. My friend had the bison burger. It was perfectly cooked at medium rare. It was a large portion and came with a side that can be substituted. Also the happy hour between four and six. There's some nice five dollar appetizer options. we tried the fried pickles. And the beer was discounted. Definitely wasn't enjoyable meal. read more

Overall we had a pretty good experience here. We had a very nice house salad with our meal and they brought rolls with it. Rolls were great and reminded us of the old lunch lady rolls of our childhood. The picture is the loaded max and cheese with steak. I'm vegetarian and had Mac and cheese. I was surprised at a steakhouse that there were actually several options for me. The Mac could have been warmer and cheesier. But still it was good. I'd return here next time we're in the area. Small town local steakhouse serving up significant portions and flavors. Partner and I were in the area for a festival and felt a Sunday afternoon lunch at a steak house would hit the spot! It was sweet and tasty (but sadly a very lite on the booze) We ordered an appetizer of Of potato skins (they are called something else on the menu) they were just as expected. Hardy and tasty! The main course was steak medallions for me cooked Med Rare (the kitchen didn't know what that meant as the steak medallions came out medium well); that's ok because they were still delicious. The medallions were topped with a Parmesan Crusted sauce. The side of mashed potatoes was flavorful, which was quite surprising. Today the bison gods cried a little! The burger I would compare to a dried hockey puck. It was flavorless, no fat, and over cooked. As you can see in the picture. One of our burgers the cheese was melted well and one was an afterthought and not melted. The cheese curds were good, some of the cheese melted out, and the house sauce is ranch, there was no other option such as marinara sauce for those allergic to bad tasting salad dressing. If I could give this less than a 1, I would...we decided to try this place again after a year. We have not visited again because the service is More than lacking and the food was more than delayed. We left Again after 45 minutes... maybe people think these things don't matter in a small town...They Do!! We had a glass of wine....and another... Cattlemen's has been open here for a while but only after 4:30pm for dinner. We had eaten there a few times but thought the prices were a little high for this area. But recently they started opening for lunch and since we're always interested in a new restaurant for lunch in our area we decided to give it a try last Wednesday. There were two specials offered. A Salsa Burger and a Jalapeno Burger. I opted for the Salsa Burger with fries and my wife ordered just a plain burger with broccoli instead of fries. She ordered a diet coke and I ordered unsweet tea. We also ordered the Spinach Artichoke dip with chips as an appetizer. The "dip" was less a dip and more a "soup". It was the thinnest "dip" I have ever seen. It looked more like a soup than a dip. I'm not sure where the recipe came from but it wasn't a normal dip for chips. My burger was cooked perfectly with no pink in the middle but my wife's burger was almost raw. It was well past pink and more towards a red. It wasn't bad enough that she wanted to complain and send it back but she said it made her uncomfortable to eat it. She prefers medium well to well done in her burgers. She didn't eat half of it. Also, she said the broccoli was not edible. It had some form of hot spice on it and it was really tough to try and chew. Her guess was that they had put it in the microwave to heat it and had left it in there for too long a time. Not good for broccoli at all. She ate non of the broccoli. So, our total bill for lunch including tip was $48. Still a little high for this area and the quality definitely not anywhere near the price.
