Gizzards and gravy and there is a biscuit down there somewhere.
Martin V.

Stopped in on the way back to Austin. Got the gizzards and gravy, drive thru, it took an extra few minutes to get but they were freshly hot. Gravy was good and batter was perfect for gizzards. Not sure about anything else, but would like to try more next time I'm in Luling. Good sweet tea too.

I like the fried chicken here. I don't bother to make it at home and I don't even get fried. Hi Ken when traveling. It just can't compare.

My mother in law, who's a very accomplished chef, says the best fried chicken in Austin (anyway) is at Top Knotch.

I had the carne asada fries and my wife opted for the 3 tender plate. This would definitely be a regular place for me if I lived in San Marcos, and it will be a stop for me anytime i'm here!

My wife likes to try potato salad but she is also quite picky about it. After discussing it with the employee- she decided against it since she said they didn't make it in house. But when we got our food brought to our table- there was a side of potato salad! She explained we didn't ordered it but the employee- same person who took out order- said the owner wanted you to try it and it was on them! Very impressive customer service! Not only was the first woman very accommodating as we tried to figure out what to order- she also recommended sauces and we really enjoyed the Sucky avocado ranch she said was her favorite. The chicken strips and the queso were the stars that day. The chicken strips were very juicy-- not at all Ike regular fast food strips. The queso was the same topper to the Filthy fries and mac and cheese. It was very good- def not from a can. The owner was very nice- he came out and chatted with us a bit. Told us a lil bit of his history with the business. That's what stood out to us- how friendly and generous each employee was there. Definitely recommend. Definitely will be back.

We intended to have 2 each but had to stick with one in order to function afterwards. I had the CFC Biscuit Benedict and you can customize it with spicy chicken or hot honey. I got the hot honey and it was perfect! It was so delicious I don't leave a morsel behind. My friend and I shared the salted caramel brownie for my birthday, and that was also delicious. I can't wait to come back here and this says a lot since I'm not big of fried chicken. Theirs is fried to perfection (soft on the inside and just crunchy enough on the outside). You're seriously missing out!

I have been to this restaurant several times before and it has always been one of my favorites. The…read moredrinks were amazing and the food was consistently great. Last night I finally brought my husband to try it after hyping it up for so long, and unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. Things have definitely changed. I was really looking forward to the chicken fried chicken, only to find out they were completely out of mashed potatoes. For a place known for chicken, that was surprising. So I ended up just sharing some of my husband's meal and our appetizer. The cornbread has always been something I rave about, especially with their hot honey. This time it came out dry, and the hot honey had no heat at all. It just was not the same. My husband's fried chicken was honestly the worst part. It was burnt, with a layer of black under the breading, and tasted like it had been overcooked to the point of being charred. There is no way the kitchen did not see how dark it was before serving it. That said, his sides were still great, so at least part of the meal was enjoyable. Our friend's chicken sandwich was not terrible, but it did not taste fresh like it used to. It felt more like something frozen and heavily breaded instead of the quality we had experienced before. One positive was the service. Our server was wonderful, and the rest of the staff was kind and attentive as well. I accidentally spilled my drink right after it arrived, and they were quick and gracious to replace it even though it was completely my fault. That was very much appreciated. The other issue that really took away from the experience was the atmosphere. Halfway through our meal, a large group of adults sat in the courtyard and had their children sit separately at a table right next to us, while their parents remained in another section of the patio. The kids were clearly having fun and playing games, which is great, but they were also very loud and screaming just a foot away from our table while their parents enjoyed quiet drinks elsewhere. There were completely open sections of the patio farther away where they could have sat, so it was frustrating that they were placed right next to the only other table of adults trying to enjoy a night out. It ended up being very disruptive and took away from what we had hoped would be a relaxing evening. Overall, I was really disappointed. This used to be a place I highly recommended, but after this visit it feels like the quality and attention to detail have slipped. I truly hope they can get back to what made them so great before.
