Good food, nice atmosphere. I think the mashed potatoes were from a box, but they were good. Prices were great!

No frills bbq gets a no frills review…read more Brisket was worth the drive. Sausage was ok. The jalapeno sausage seemed to have some other spice like fennel in it too, which was unexpected but good. You enter the building and are immediately in front of the pit and even some open fire. You order your meat from the guys and pay there. Then you can go into the dining room and order sides, or just eat your meat like we did. They aren't kidding when they say "no forks." They just give you knives, but the brisket barely needs a knive.

The firewood sits on the ground as you walk in as a part of their open-fire cooking style bringing smoke into the brick pits. These new school smokers don't do it like Smitty's. As we walked in at 10:30, there was no line. We asked for the simplest order. A single slice of brisket and a single slice of turkey. It was about $12 all in. As we sat down with one of the 4 pieces of butcher paper for 2 slices of meat, I noticed that there are no forks at Smitty's. Just knives. We got to work. The turkey was fantastic. Barbecue turkey is honestly an underrated concept and their turkey was juicy, soft, and would change any Thanksgiving meal to one for the history books. I was extremely disappointed in the slice of brisket though. It was extremely chewy like plastic. Decently seasoned but not tender at all. Probably a bit undercooked. It was worth visiting for the experience, especially to get a picture next to the fire pit, which one of the people on staff was nice enough to take for us. As we walked out, we noticed tons of their awards and recognitions. It's cool to give a classic originator of Texas barbecue a hat tip like we did. RIYL: The originators or fire on the floor

We want to acknowledge Cami. She always gives us excellent service with a smile on her face…read more Thanks Cami!

TLDR: Was visiting my daughter, we decided to do a little road trip to some hill cntry towns. I…read morethought we would do a bbq sandwich tour/comparison. I'd earmarked Old 300 as the place in Blanco, to go up against the others. We arrived on a Monday about 1:20p. After lunch hour, and the place was packed. (that's an indicator right there. One of the slowest days for restaurants during the week, and not at peak meal time.) The line went quick. They have what's listed as a "BBQ Sandwich" - it's a blend of chopped brisket and chopped pulled pork (not in long, stringy strands) together. We were going to hit other towns & sandwiches, so for the two of us we just ordered one sandwich and a side of potato salad. We got it to-go. Sat at an empty table. Got ourselves fixins - some doctored up onions (sliced, seems like they sauté them a little in butter and then top w fresh cracked black pepper), pickles, and both their Sweet and their Spicy sauces. They brought it out quickly, less than 5 min. We opted to just eat it there instead of take it to the next town. We topped with pickles, onions, and the Sweet sauce. Oh my freakin' sweet Lord! In this small Texas town with an unassuming spot a block and a half off the main road going through town, easily one of the top 5 bbq sandwiches of all time - no joke! To break it down, we tasted all items individually. The onions are delectable - softened from the sauté, good moisture from the butter, delicious. The Sweet sauce is crazy good. A fantastic balance of sweet, tang, & slight bite. I've never said this before but it's true - told my daughter, "I could just sit here and dip these pickles in this sauce for the next 30 minutes and be completely satisfied." The sauce, yes, is that good. Daughter is not a heat/spice lover, but she did try the Spicy sauce and we both thought it was definitely tame as far as heat goes. We both thought the Spicy sauce was okay. The Sweet sauce, though, stellar! We were overwhelmed by how good it all was. When we got to the car, I said, "All the ingredients together was like a symphony." Next time I visit her, am absolutely gonna suggest another drive out to Blanco specifically, to try some other items on the menu. But I can say this, for the BBQ Sandwich, pickles, doctored onions, and Sweet sauce alone, Old 300 is worth a generous drive and you will 100 percent be happy as a lark. Thanks for fantastic meal, Old 300. Will most definitely be back.

Ok, Texas BBQ. Well, it is really hard to review when there are a lot of really good places. First,…read morelet me tell you what day and time we visited. Thursday around 12:40 pm. Looking for a lunch spot and this was our 2nd option since our 1st option was already sold out. Service was prompt. There was maybe one person ahead of us. The dining area was spacious and there was plenty of seating inside. They had a patio area, too. There were about 15 other patrons besides us. Schulze seems to be a staple around Seguin and had a sweet history of its origin posted near the restroom. Ok, I know you want to know about the meat. We ordered brisket lean, turkey, and a rib. The seasoning was a bit too peppery for my liking. The brisket was a tad dry but the company I was with liked lean. I would have ordered a mixed one if by myself. The rib was big and meaty and had a nice balance of pepper and sweetness. I like my ribs slightly sweet. The sides we ordered were the chimichurri cucumbers (sounded interesting), potato salad, and beans. When I visit a place for the 1st time, I like to try the staples (beans and potato salad/not quite there yet to eating coleslaw). The sides were ok. I would return. There were some other interesting options like brisket tostada and maybe by then I'd be willing to try their coleslaw.

I went in today with my three-year-old son during lunch hour on a weekday and it just felt like the elder crowd was like "what are they doing here?" As I walked in. Now Maybe I'm a little guarded I mean, I'm a single full-time Dad prior military, so I'm protective and observant. Plus, some guy in a big ol truck of course ( mind you I have a truck) decided that he wanted to almost hit my son and I as we' attempted to walking across the parking lot. I digress, but it was to the extent that I didn't even want to sit inside, so we sat on the patio. Which reminds me 91° outside and the patio well well ventilated, w/ breeze and felt good. All in all just an iffy experience. Food was good not great turkey was dry but the baked potato salad will have me back through the drive-thru through.

At first, we weren't sure what to order since it was our first time, but the owner kindly offered us a rib sample--and wow, that sealed the deal. We ended up ordering the ribs, and they were absolutely phenomenal. We also tried the twice-baked potato, which quickly became my favorite. The potato salad and mac & cheese were both delicious as well--comfort food done right. Everyone was very nice! The atmosphere was great! I still can't get over how incredible those ribs were. Nice thing about them was they gave us samples when we were curious about an item on their menu. Their brisket was excellent. It was seasoned just right, not too fatty (you can request to get the fat cut off too if you want) and tender. You can order pork ribs by number of ribs instead of weight strictly. Their hatch Mac n cheese was fire. They add jalapenos to it and it was very creamy. Their beans had bits and pieces of brisket in them as well. Overall, a great BBQ place. Was just a bit uncomfortable sitting outside to eat on a toasty summer day.

It was time to get my drivers license renewed at the courthouse and afterwards headed to pickup…read moresome BBQ to take back home. It's a routine I do when I have to do some government business. Kreuz Market is one of my favorite places among their stiff competition in Lockhart. It was in the mid very hot afternoon and not a lot of vehicles parked. I walked inside to get blindsided with extreme heat of an oven. It was hot making the outdoor 100 degrees feel like a cool Fall day. Not sure how the pit masters take it but they gathered my meat order of Half Chicken, Beef Brisket, Spare Ribs, and Hot Jalapeño Cheese Sausage together. The crew were very nice and friendly and headed inside a sealed room where got a blasted of extremely cold air where you order your sides and drinks. Ordered Macaroni & Cheese, Beans, Potato Salad and Sweet Tea. You can site inside this refrigerator or in the oven, but luckily had to go back home with my order. There is plenty of tables in both rooms. I did not see outdoor seating but wont stop you eating in your vehicle like at Buc-ee's. It's truly mouthwatering where the brisket was thick and juicy, chicken roasted with a perfect wood smoked taste, jalapeño sausage addicting with flavor, and spare ribs stripped to the bone after a few wonderful bites. Even the sides were delicious. Tourist will defiantly love this place deep in he heart of Texas culture in BBQ.

This is a smokehouse and you walk in and get the authentic smell and smoke coming from the pits. Employees are all super friendly and nice and helpful and efficient. We got brisket, pork chop, and jalapeno sausage. The sausage was okay, the casing was way too tough and very hard to chew and the flavor was mild hardly any jalapeno flavor. The brisket was tough and cutting it so thick made it a challenge to chew. The pork chop was a bit tough as well and lacked smoke flavor. For the price you pay there are other BBQ places with more tender meat, more smoke flavor, and better flavor. The Mac and cheese was overcooked. The sauerkraut was too sweet and they did not offer us any bread. This is my last visit.
