I've been here a few times and always enjoyed it. They are extremely fair priced. And very friendly. I'll be stopping by today.

Luling Bar- B- Q in Luling, was founded in 1986 by the Chambers family, so it has been around a minute and is right next door to The City Market. If you're literally gonna open up a barbecue joint right next to another barbecue joint, you probably think your barbecue is pretty darn good. I will say that Luling barbecue has a better selection of sides than city BBQ, but none were more than average. Unfortunately, the chicken and jalapeño sausage were both dry. The brisket was good, but not as good as City Market. The regular sausage was OK which makes it better than City Markets, which was really not good at all. Overall, if you're driving from Houston to San Antonio, you might have to just skip Luling altogether for barbecue. This is an older building, and the seating area and bathrooms reflect its age. Customer service here was average. No hello on entrance no thank you at goodbye. read more

Came through on our way from Dallas and lucked out finding this place. Joseph gave us excellent, friendly service and the food was delicious. You have to try the brisket and Mac & cheese. And the place was spotlessly clean. I'll be back when I'm in town again. read more

First customers in the door on a Sunday morning and excited to try their mesquite smoked bbq . Underwhelmed when the brisket was removed from a sealed plastic bag. I went to Luling on a Sunday during the watermelon festival. Most restaurants are closed on Sunday so I didn't have much options to pick from. There was a line which gave me hopes for somewhat good bbq I was wrong! I think in my opinion this is the saddest plates of bbq I've ever eaten in Texas! It was greasy... cold... no real flavor of bbq! Usually no matter how bad the food is I always manage to finish my plate... I just couldn't! This was the fine definition of a trap! I like the old style building and that it is full! But I saw so many plates not being finished! Just like me! Luling Bar-B-Q was a last minute decision for us to swing by for lunch. We were not disappointed! Great moist beef brisket! Good sausage! Must try Pork Ribs!!! I not a stranger to BBQ spots in the great state of Texas. We had the sausage sandwich and a two meat plate. Their Mac and cheese side and coleslaw was alright. But the star of the show was their pork ribs and moist brisket. I would rate them a 5 star if their sides were just a bit more flavorful. The ambiance is clean and cozy. Craving for good Texas BBQ and Lulling BBQ doesn't disappoint. I don't know what happened with folks came before me. The service was awesome. Everyone was friendly. The meat just melted off the bones. Sausage is not overly salty like that mega gas station chain. Locals come here and passer byes stop evidently there was a line. Four people working the counter and have a hard time getting orders rapidly. Sides of Mac&Cheese and green beans taste out of a box. Nothing spectacular about those. Everything's a bit overpriced for the flavor and they put there mustard base sauce on everywhere. The staff were very professional and friendly. I got the two meat plate with chicken, brisket, potato salad and beans. The meat was good and the sides were tasty. The bbq sauce was a delicious semi-sweet mustard sauce. I appreciate the homemade sides as many bbq places don't offer that. There's outside seating, as well. read more

Solid four stars. So we have a barbecue restaurant with the same name in Houston Texas off of Richmond Avenue near 610. They have very similar barbecue sauce which is orange. However they are not affiliated. The food was really good. Food brisket, sausage, and ribs. The moist brisket was actually very good. I gave that a five out of five. The sausage was about a three out of five. It was pretty good but a little too greasy for my liking. The ribs were excellent. I'll give them a five out of five. The sides were not that great. That was probably the least flavored macaroni cheese ever had in my life. They really need to look at redoing their macaroni and cheese because it's simply not good. One out of five on the macaroni and cheese. The potato salad was decent. The customer service is great. Some real nice good old country folk who know how to treat people. As good as it gets for central Texas BBQ. Everyone runs all over the state looking for the Top 10 joints when all they have to do is drive straight to Luling City Market. Who knows what the secret really is but im told it's the local wood they use. This makes sense because there is a certain ja ne sais quoi that can't be explained. Came here for a very late lunch. It may have been about 3:30pm when I walked in the doors. A couple of folks (owners?) were cleaning up and the place was immaculate in the way of a well loved restaurant that had been around for YEARS and the folks still cared. They were also super friendly and accommodating as they walked me thru the items that they had on time and to give me an idea of what to get. Plus 1 star right there for the great service and friendly folks. The food didn't hit it off for me. There were highs and not so highs. But the value and the experience kind of made up for it. I went with the classic 2 meat plate to try to sample my way around their menu. The main item was brisket. It looked fantastic, but there really wasn't any smoky flavor. It was well cooked and reasonably smooth, but I'm not sure what pit it came out of. I really should have tried some of the sauces because this is the reason that they are made. Good piece of meat, well cooked in need of a bit more flavor. The second meat was the sausage. I wasn't in for the kick so asked for the non-jalapeno version. Yes, I'm a heretic. But this was absolutely a fantastic sausage. If you are a sausage fan, you will love this. Crispy, savory, kick of meaty goodness. I really enjoyed it. The sides definitely had some love in them. I went with the slaw which, for this late, was pretty crispy. Nice crunch followed by that sweet slaw taste. Nice side action there. I also went with the pinto beans. At first I was a bit bored. I thought they were straight out of the can without a lot of flavor. Then the warm glow of a late kick started. Yep, those were fresh and good with a little extra in them. Met family here for supper. I was skeptical when pulling up and there being no cars , but I was wrong. We were promptly greeted upon entering by a nice young man. He skillfully cut our meats and offered the sides. We tried the Turkey, Brisket (lean & moist) along with the sausage. The meats were flavorful and tender. For the sides, the pinto beans were amazing! The potato salad and broccoli salad was very good as well. Highly recommended this restaurant! read more

Came by here and was a bit disappointed. Ordered one pound of brisket and specified moist, and it was far from it. The person who sliced the brisket in fact tossed out some of the fattier bits and the bark, leaving only dry, lean meat remaining. It lacked flavor and smokiness, but above all, it was very dry. The barbecue sauce was alright but in all honesty, I have never purchased brisket that was this lean when specifying moist. It probably was healthier at least. In Texas, just about anywhere you go you can find yourself some excellent BBQ. While passing through Luling, TX a friend insisted that we eat here. The line was out the door and despite that, we got in pretty quick. We picked up some brisket, ribs and sausage links. Everyone in our little group seemed to make love to their food. Upon exiting, the line was longer. My only thing was that the dining room was a little cramped and I think a dedicated entry and exit could help with the flow. Very tasty! Nice customer service. The brisket was very good. Really enjoyed the broccoli salad and coleslaw. The broccoli salad was savory and the coleslaw was mildly sweet--good tang. My dinner partner had the potato salad so I had a taste. It was quite mustard-y but I enjoyed it. The blueberry cheesecake was too sweet for me; had a pudding texture and the crust was quite crumbly. I have been here twice. The first time i was disappointed with the brisket. It was so dry and mediocre flavor. This time, I came 35 min before they closed and they would not serve me. They had already cleaned everything up. 35 minutes is a ridiculous amount of time left to shut down service. When I pointed out it was only 525 and they close at 6 pm, they offered me the little fatty scraps they had left of brisket. Like are you joking? Literally chopped up scraps. My husband and I were on our way from Houston to San Antonio for the long MLK weekend. Being the foodies that we are, we decided to stop at Luling's BBQ. I ordered two meat plate (ribs and brisket) and my husband ordered chicken and ribs. Although the staff was friendly, I am sad to say the food was not to our liking. Ribs and brisket were dry with very little smoke flavor. Chicken tight was okay. The sauce was mustard inspired, which was not to this foodies liking. Too heavy of mustard flavor.
