This store is disgustingly filthy, poor quality food and service. I called about my food quality and they refused to replace it

Fried catfish and chicken strips were not greasy, hush puppies were tasty and the sweet tea was perfect. Feels like the south to me!

The food, which in my case was a hamburger was absolutely wonderful. The french fries were equally well done. The portions are generous and given how busy the restaurant is it was very well prepared. Again, given how busy this particular restaurant is the service is amazingly efficient, and the staff is very nice. Although I would suggest it is not a place you would necessarily want to come to relative to its ambience on the other hand you would miss a wonderful meal if you did not. In my case I chose the meal over the ambience and it was well worth it and that is the reason I give it five stars.

The food was especially good with large portions and very reasonably priced. I understand there is a meat market next door (I assume the meat comes from there). My Philly Cheese Steak was excellent. The hamburgers are 1/2 pound (unless you want bigger) and very good. My wife had the BLT and was amazed at how much better than normal the bacon was. Our nephew, who is a big eater, couldn't even finish his chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and country gravy and said he's never had better. We all had fries and they were fresh, house-made, and delicious. None of us could finish them all. We pass through Gonzales maybe a dozen times a year and since this place is a couple of block west of where we join Hwy 90A, we've never seen it. Other reviewers mentioned that it seems to be a favorite of the locals and now it one of ours too. The tables fill the room and if there were more I'm sure they would fill them, though that might mean the fast service could suffer, so to me it's fine as is. We will return and will start planning our trips to include lunch here. They close at 2 pm so will leave home with that in mind.

This place is great. I ran out of food while camping at a nearby 5-day music festival so I drove…read moreinto Smithville and had breakfast here. It's entirely donation based. You place your order and then take a seat and when they bring out your food, you get a little pocket to put cash into to pay whatever you want. The food was great and it benefits addiction recovery. My only complaint is that they really really really need to put fans on the patio cause I was swatting away flies the entire time I was eating. I wouldn't eat outside again. I went for breakfast and had a 3-meat omlette which I actually couldn't even finish cause I was full. It was a little weird getting the apple juice in a cup full of ice but I guess I could have gotten more if I wanted it. I'd like to back for lunch sometime.

Brittany helped navigate a coffee I would enjoy and I did! Try the Vietnamese iced coffee so good. my daughter and I sat outside and met Terrance, who came right up and introduced himself. made sure we were doing good and dj'd some great tunes. The restaurant is cafeteria-style, with everything priced at $8.99 per pound, which we didn't expect but ended up working great for our family since everyone could choose exactly what they wanted. The food tasted homemade, and the salad bar was especially impressive with lots of fresh options. The chicken tenders were a big hit with the kids, and we couldn't resist trying the cherry cobbler for dessert, which was delicious. If you're passing through Shiner and looking for a casual, satisfying meal, this is a great stop.

In a style that you don't see as often as their once was, they offer home cooking by the pound. Today there was catfish, chicken tenders, hamburger steak 3 ways, turkey, and lasagna, and probably a few I missed. Their sides collection will take you back to your favorite church pot luck with the breadth of variety. They also had a very fresh salad bar with the best options you can ask for in before you indulge in the fried goodies. I caught them right before close so I was offered a discount take it to go. Al fresco dining was fine by me so I got to enjoy my weighty meal whilst looking at one of my favorite Texas institutions and sat amongst the ruins of the Sunken Garden.

Pulling up to Roadhouse felt like I was about to film a low-budget country music video. The aggressively unpretentious energy was immaculate. The all-dirt parking lot said everything! No curated patio, no aesthetic succulents just straight up vibes and dust. The place was packed at 1 p.m. Our server, Raven, took great care of us from the jump. Rave was very efficient, friendly, and had zero attitude. We ordered a basket of fries, a portobello mushroom burger for me, a cheeseburger, a Philly cheesesteak, upgraded side salads, and, of course, their famous carrot cake to share. Now, let me confess something: As a Californian, I walked in with absolutely zero expectations given the facade. And yet... the fries were perfect. The portobello burger was juicy, well-seasoned, and very satisfying! My friends inhaled their cheeseburger and Philly like they were participating in a competitive sport. Lol. And don't even get me started with their carrot cake. It was disrespectfully delicious! This was seriously the most humbling "don't judge a book by its cover" moment I've had in a while. Roadhouse doesn't need any curated lighting or a reclaimed-wood Instagram wall because the food and service speak for themselves. I drove into a dirt lot with skepticism and left faceplanted by my own bias. Consider me corrected, Bastrop!

I took 1bite of my cheese enchilada and I don't know what they use to season their gravy, but horrible, and the cheese inside was not even melted. I got 2 crispy tacos, the tomato came as 2 pieces of a half, that was laid in the enchilada sauce, and 1 bite and the entire taco fell apart and I had to try to get a few bites with a fork, but 1 more bite and I was done. I left literally almost a whole plate of food. The taco meat tasted almost like Taco Bell. HORRIBLE! We got to know the owner when he had his truck outside of New Braunfels, and he's a super nice guy, but this... he miserably failed at his restaurant. My husband got carne guisada, ate 1 bite, and no more. He ate the rice and beans, and a tortilla, and he was done. So literally over $35 for 2 almost full plates to be left on the table. I wish I had taken pics but I was so mad, and ready to leave so I could actually go get something else to eat.

I will reheat and eat later. The portions were large and both of us took home leftovers. The service was good, no check brought to table, we waited and found out you just go to register to pay. The dining area is bright and follows the Mexican motif. No music playing which made conversation better. If we are in the area we may return.
