Delicious drinks and fresh bakery items here! I have only made a few quick stops here to grab food to go but they never disappoint. They typically have sweet and savory pastries, and fresh bread. This past visit I sampled a jalapeno cheese bread that was yummy. Some of my favorites are monkey bread, maple nut scone, sour cream blueberry bread and the basic sourdough bread loaf. I ordered a Cranberry Frangipane and a Raspberry Mocha with almond milk. The pastry was cold and hard and essentially inedible. I asked if they could heat it up for me and they said no. Now I'm playing drums with my fork on the little hard disk. It's pretty though. I was able to break it open, and the center is cold but definitely softer. It tastes pretty good! Your better off getting a regular mocha because the house made raspberry syrup doesn't really taste like raspberry. It leave a weird aftertaste in your mouth. I am conflicted with my experience with Rustica. On one side the croissant, chocolate croissant, and baguette were adequate. On the other hand the espresso I had was literally the worst espresso I have ever had. Let's start with the pretty good. The pastries I had were pretty good. The chocolate croissant tasted very similar to the ones I had when I was in Paris. I visited at around 2:30pm so the pastries did taste a little old but that is to be expected in the afternoon. Overall, the taste was decent for food products. Now for the bad. To start it did seem a little more spendy than I would have liked. Also the espresso was horrible. If I was rating solely on the espresso I would give Rustica a one. It was bitter, old tasting, and all around not a good blend. read more

Love their pastries. They have the best tasting cinnamon roll I've ever had. (5/5) It's not too sweet and got wonderful textures. The pistachio chocolate danish was okay. I tried it because there were lots of reviews and pictures of it. I still prefer the cinnamon roll over this. I didn't like the pistachios much. Great place! I went back twice in two days. The first time I came because I had a couple hours to kill and needed a space to work and because they have Kounig Amann, the best pastry ever. It was great, good coffee the Kounig Aman was spectacular and I found a nice quiet corner to set up my laptop for a couple hours. The second visit I decided to try their breakfast options and got a sausage egg biscuit. This was ok, boring even, literally just a fried egg on top of a sausage patty on top of a small, square biscuit. After my wonderful first experience I had high expectations and this was average. My recommendation is to skip the biscuit sandwich and go for the pastries. I will definitely go back next time I'm in Minneapolis but will stick to the Kounig Amann. read more

This place get crowded during the weekend because it is located next to Lake Calhoun, It is a big space inside with lots of sunlight. Great place to catch up with friends. Met a friend here the day before New Year's Eve day for a cup of coffee. Generally I stop in just for a latte or cappuccino to go after shopping at Chuck & Don's. I usually wish I had time to stay and sample their eye catching baked goods. This day I opted for a chocolate croissant and a large cappuccino. I'm a sucker for the artistic, leafy swirls skillfully produced in each cup by the barista. It impresses me every time. The coffee is of course excellent. The pastry was very good with a dense, not too sweet chocolate filling but was a bit dry and could have been flakier. My friend had a chocolate orange scone that he found quite satisfying. I have also taken home a few loaves of bread, all of very high quality. Comfortable atmosphere. Great location. If I came here more often and ventured deeper into the menu (trying bouchons, various sandwiches, cakes and pies (BTW, I did see a picture in another review of my absolute favorite, Rhubarb Custard, a creation rarely seen in these parts) I may become even more appreciative of this establishment and more attuned to its refined, if not rarefied artisanal vibe. read more

This place was pretty busy for a wintery Sunday afternoon but we were able to find a table for two. If you like strong coffee, I would highly recommend the fall guy. It is listed under their specialty drinks and is a twist on of their espresso drinks. I absolutely loved the sweetness of the drink but it wasn't overwhelming. I don't know anything about making cakes, but I have the passion for eating cakes! Wow, I just got a lemon lavender cake from rustica and it was sublime. I was afraid of eating a bar of soap but this is not the case. It was dense and not so sweet. You can taste a hint of lavender, which did not overpower the lemon cake. Obsessed and disappointed I'm not local. A friend had recommended and it did not disappoint. We tried a variety of the pastries: monkey bread, almond danish, and the ham & cheese croissant. The almond danish was heavenly. Highly recommend warming up the ham & cheese croissant for peak deliciousness. And can never go wrong with monkey bread. I also tried the caramelized pecan latte. I'm not usually a big fan of coffee but this was fantastic. Not too sweet but still creamy enough to not taste too bitter for my tastes. The inside was typical coffee shop, nothing too spectacular, but what lacked in appearance was completely made up for in the quality of food and drink. Prices weren't the cheapest, but again, the quality was so good that I didn't care (5 danishes/pastries and a small coffees cost about $41.) From what I could tell there was online orders for bakery items and such. Items were bagged bagged and on a table to come in and grab and go. Employees were all masked and gloved when handling food items. If you are in the area and looking for a tasty but quick breakfast or snack, consider checking this place out. read more

Rustica is legit. It is a coffee shop/cafe near lake Calhoun on W. Lake Street. They aren't fast, but they are good. Pastries are great. They even serve lunch to order half the week! There is alot of seating inside. Parking lot can be busy because of Burger Jones and the Pizza place, but I always get a spot eventually. This is a great place to meet up with people and catch up. I saw some pictures from Rustica Bakery on my Instagram account and they intrigued me enough to want to stop in. At first I was a tad disappointed in the pastry selection. I was starving and ready to load up, but found that it was mostly bread, some desserts and small assortment of pastries. I ended up trying a scone, some peach pastry (idk the names) and the croissantwhich to satisfy my hunger. I also tried the iced tea and the hubby went for a mocha. Food: the pastries were perfect. Flaky, not too sweet, just the right amount of filling. The breakfast sandwich though was 5 stars all around. The croissant, pesto, perfectly cooked egg, and flavorful bean sausage were outta this world. In fact I recommend going to Rustica just to get this item!! Drinks were alright, nothing spectacular. My husband didn't like his mocha though and didn't even finish it. He said it wasn't very sweet, but I don't drink coffee so I don't really have an opinion on the matter. It's an order at the window place and there was plenty of seating on Saturday morning. They have an outdoor patio that was nice, but it seemed as though this was the hot spot to go right after a run around the lake so I imagine it can get fairly busy more toward the afternoon. I had visited the Rustica creamery at MOA, but hadn't been to Rustica Bakery. Obviously needed to rectify that, so I scheduled a breakfast meeting here. It was delightful! The space is well designed and full of natural light, and it seems like a place that's always bustling. I had a lemon poppyseed scone and bostock (because how could I look at that beautiful case of pastries and choose only one????) - both were delicious. My colleagues also enjoyed what they ordered, though the beverages were on the pricey side. The only reason I can't give 5 stars is that the staff was really blah. I don't need to have a special or meaningful connection with every employee I encounter, but the extent to which the two staff I interacted with were disconnected and standoffish was incredibly off putting. read more

I was getting coffee for myself and a coworker while she was getting a pastry. She actually paid first and left a $10 tip for the both of us thus no need to pay me back for the coffee. While I realize, the people behind the counter wouldn't know this, you should not give poor service just because someone doesn't tip. It's not a requirement, it's a choice. (Don't get me wrong! I ALWAYS tip, unless service is BAD.) Well, the service, looks, and espresso (ick ) I got once I paid leads me to believe they thought that's what I deserved for not tipping. I was not impatient, unpleasant, demanding, nothing, so that's my only guess??? As I've gone before and the service and coffee have been fine. PETTY! Well organized shelves full with all the fantastic pastries. Their bread section has many different kinds of it and French Baguette is one of the best in town. The coffee is good but I wish they would add more specialty items to the menu to create an irresistible combo of craft lattes and award winning pastries. The ham and cheese croissant was a savory bite of heaven, I would have liked it even more if it was warmed up to melt the cheese. I've had Rustica bakery items all over town at various coffee shops but this was my first time going to the source! I love their bittersweet chocolate cookies more than any other cookie EVER!! But during this visit I opted to try something new with a brioche-type bread called Bostok with almonds and a bread pudding cluster with oranges. For coffee we had a miel latte and Gibraltar. The bostok was very good but the bread pudding was kind of cold and maybe old? We asked if they could it heat it up and they could not. The coffee is good but for $19 for everything I think the quality could have been improved some. Maybe I need to try some other bread or pastries from them but overall I was sadly underwhelmed. Don't support this place. They furloughed their staff due to the pandemic and have not been clear in communicating with the entire team about the state of their jobs. They only brought back a few people and never updated the rest of the team. They fired all their staff and most of them only found out they no longer have a job through messages from their coworkers! They also created an employee relief fund through gift card sales and have yet to even share those funds with ALL the employees like they said they would.
