We recently stopped by Ashbrook Distillery and discovered what I'd call a true hidden gem in…read moreAshville. The place has that classic small-town dive bar feel, the kind of spot where you walk in expecting a casual bite and end up being pleasantly surprised by how good the food actually is. It's relaxed, welcoming, and feels like a place locals probably keep to themselves. We started with something called Hillbilly Calamari, and despite the name, there's no squid involved. Instead, it's sliced banana peppers lightly breaded and fried, served with ranch. They were crispy, tangy, and had just the right little kick. A really fun and unique starter. Served with ranch dressing 9/10 But the wings absolutely stole the show. They're slow smoked first and then flash fried, which gives them a great smoky flavor while keeping the outside crispy and the inside juicy and tender. I tried two flavors -- Cody's mix which was Bourbon BBQ mixed with spicy garlic which had a great smoky flavor a sweet and savory richness with a hint of kick from the bourbon and I ordered the Spicy Garlic, which packed a bold garlicky heat that really popped. Both wings were excellent. 20/10 And of course, you can't go wrong with the fresh-cut fries on the side. Fries were good, but could have been a little crispier for my preference. 7/10 One of the coolest things about the place is the grill right behind the bar, where you can watch them as they're cooking your burger while you watch. It adds to that laid-back, old-school bar atmosphere that makes the whole experience feel authentic. Katy was are server and she was super friendly and on top of refills and kept checking on us. This is definitely a place that makes you feel comfortable and welcome. If you're anywhere near Ashville, this is definitely worth a stop. Great wings, fun appetizers, and a relaxed neighborhood vibe make it a place I'd happily come back to for another bite!! Have a great day from Brian From Brian's Big Bite

My boo ordered the Jimbo's burger which was a pretty big burger and he substitute cheese for bleu cheese. The burger was very big and fulfilling. The bleu cheese gave it a different taste that imma definitely have to try again. I ordered the buffalo wings which were so good and super saucy, I just wish the wings were fried hard before being coated. The waitresses were so nice and gave us a few recommendations on where to go to hike at the trails etc. The burger filled my boo up so I know it was pretty good 10/10 will have to come revisit

During a previous visit to Circleville, thanks to a Yelp recommendation, we discovered the Thirsty Parrot and loved it. Truth be known, a return visit to the Thirsty Parrot is my motivation to "ride along". My wife loved their bourbon chicken last time and had the same thing this time. I went with the gyro - available in several varieties, including traditional gyro meat or bourbon chicken. I had it with gyro meat and a small order of fries. The gyro was delicious and the small order of fries was an extremely generous portion. BTW - they've got some of the best fries I've had. We'll definitely be back next year.

While passing through Circleville (or "Roundtown" as the locals proudly call it), we needed a place…read moreto grab a bite. Being an Elite Yelper, I did what I always do--I opened Yelp to see what the locals were recommending. One of the top-rated spots was The Thirsty Parrot, so we decided to check it out. We arrived between the lunch and dinner crowds, so the place was nice and quiet. There was one customer enjoying a drink at the bar, and we were the only ones dining in. Our bartender, who also took care of our table, welcomed us with a smile and told us to sit wherever we liked. We grabbed a booth by the window and immediately noticed the fun atmosphere. Think Jimmy Buffett meets a tropical tiki bar, with colorful décor that makes you feel like you're on vacation instead of in central Ohio. The menu is pretty much what you'd expect from a neighborhood bar and grill--burgers, sandwiches, appetizers, and a few house specialties. Before we came, I'd noticed that the bourbon chicken gets mentioned over and over in Yelp reviews. Then I spotted something that caught my eye: a Bourbon Chicken Gyro. As a former chef, I'm always looking for the dish that's a little outside the norm, so that sealed the deal. The gyro comes in either a quarter-pound or half-pound size. I wasn't messing around, so I ordered the half-pound with lettuce, tomato, onions, and tzatziki sauce, plus a side of their hand-cut fries. My wife decided it sounded too good to pass up, so she ordered the quarter-pound version--just hold the onions--and we split the fries. When the food arrived, everything was fresh and piping hot. The bourbon chicken was tender, flavorful, and surprisingly delicious wrapped up in a gyro. It's not something you see every day, and it absolutely worked. The hand-cut fries were good too, although I would've liked them just a little crispier. That's a personal preference more than a complaint. Before we left, we had a chance to chat briefly with the owner, who thanked us for stopping in. Those little interactions always leave a lasting impression. Even though it was a slow time of day, it was easy to see why this place earns consistently good reviews. Friendly people, reasonable prices, and solid food are a recipe for success. If you're passing through Circleville and looking for a casual place with good food, friendly service, and a laid-back island vibe, put The Thirsty Parrot on your list. I know we'll stop back the next time we're in Roundtown.
