We recently stopped by Ashbrook Distillery and discovered what I'd call a true hidden gem in Ashville. The place has that classic small-town dive bar feel, the kind of spot where you walk in expecting a casual bite and end up being pleasantly surprised by how good the food actually is. It's relaxed, welcoming, and feels like a place locals probably keep to themselves. We started with something called Hillbilly Calamari, and despite the name, there's no squid involved. Instead, it's sliced banana peppers lightly breaded and fried, served with ranch. They were crispy, tangy, and had just the right little kick. A really fun and unique starter. Served with ranch dressing 9/10 But the wings absolutely stole the show. They're slow smoked first and then flash fried, which gives them a great smoky flavor while keeping the outside crispy and the inside juicy and tender. I tried two flavors -- Cody's mix which was Bourbon BBQ mixed with spicy garlic which had a great smoky flavor a sweet and savory richness with a hint of kick from the bourbon and I ordered the Spicy Garlic, which packed a bold garlicky heat that really popped. Both wings were excellent. 20/10 And of course, you can't go wrong with the fresh-cut fries on the side. Fries were good, but could have been a little crispier for my preference. 7/10 One of the coolest things about the place is the grill right behind the bar, where you can watch them as they're cooking your burger while you watch. It adds to that laid-back, old-school bar atmosphere that makes the whole experience feel authentic. Katy was are server and she was super friendly and on top of refills and kept checking on us. This is definitely a place that makes you feel comfortable and welcome. If you're anywhere near Ashville, this is definitely worth a stop. I was reluctant on trying this place because it's in Ashville. However, the food is really good. I wasn't hungry when I went and finished my entire meal. I got the patty melt which is what I'd get again if I lived anywhere near this place. Has to be the best restaurant around until you get to Chillicothe. Tried something new. Charming small town, pretty cool restaurant. Definitely a locals type joint, bar area, off side dining area as well. Not overly large, not enough tables, so go early, or be prepared to wait. Good service, waitresses rotate, so they may switch it up. Started with Hillbilly Calamari- breaded banana pepper rings served with ranch. Light coating, nice fry, overall a light and crispy ring that didn't drip with oil. Home made ranch would have kicked this over the goal post, but I was disappointed with a standard food service variety. Friday Special was the French dip! So good! Generous portion of beef piled atop a nice bun and lots of cheese added. Served with a side of aujus that stole the show! Fries are a $2 up charge. This was honestly one of the WORST dining experiences I've ever had. Our waitress barely checked on our table the entire time. We had to track her down multiple times, and eventually I had to walk up myself just to ask for the bill. When I did, she responded with an attitude and told me "that's what I'm doing right now," even though we had been waiting quite a while. After we paid (by card), she followed us outside onto the sidewalk and confronted us about why we didn't leave her better tip. She asked for our name because she was going to tell her manager so that we weren't allowed back. Since we paid by card, she already had our names and information -- there was absolutely no reason to follow us outside to ask for it just to say we wouldn't be allowed back. That behavior was unnecessary, confrontational, and uncomfortable.That was completely inappropriate and unprofessional. After we got home and checked our bank account, we saw that our card was charged twice -- once for our meal and a second time for a completely different amount that no one at our table even had. I understand serving can be stressful, but this crossed a line. I've never experienced anything like it before. Management seriously needs to address this. read more

We stopped in to try this place and sampled a little bit of everything. For appetizers, we ordered the cheese sticks and the deep-fried pepperoni bites. The cheese sticks were solid--crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside--but the dipping sauce left something to be desired. It wasn't quite a traditional marinara, more like a straight tomato sauce, which didn't quite hit the mark for us. My wife even tried dipping them in the bourbon sauce and ranch, but nothing really complemented them the way we hoped. The deep-fried pepperoni bites were a unique option. They reminded us of pepperoni-flavored potato chips--not bad, just different. I'd give them about 3.5 out of 5 stars. For my main, I had the Parmesan garlic wings. The wings themselves were fantastic--great quality meat and a really nice smoked flavor. The garlic Parmesan sauce, though, just wasn't my favorite. To be fair, I'm comparing it to Buffalo Wild Wings' version, which is tough to beat in my book. Still, with a different flavor, I think these wings would be excellent. My wife ordered the Philly cheesesteak, which was good, and we shared a side of fries that were cooked just right. The ambiance had a laid-back, tavern feel--definitely the kind of place I'd stop by regularly if I were a local. It seemed like a great spot to grab a beer and hang out with friends or unwind after work. What really stood out was the service. Our server was fantastic--attentive, friendly, and really hustling, even when the place started getting packed. She may not have made it back around as often near the end of our meal, but you could clearly see she was giving it her all with every table. Price-wise, it wasn't bad overall. The Philly cheesesteak was $14, which felt a little steep given the size, but the rest of the menu seemed fairly standard for similar places. All in all, a good experience. Came across this gem last night. This place was amazing, once you walk in the door you feel like your are taking a small step back in time. The walls are decorated with amazing decor from the local history. As you look around you will be surprised with a chopper on the wall. The wood in the building is stamped with Ashbrook Distillery. We started off with two amazing appetizers, onion rings and fried mushrooms. Followed up with 15 of some of the most amazing wings I've ever had. The best part is they allow different sauces for each 5 of the wings ordered. So 15 wings and 3 amazing sauces. The staff was awesome, always checking in on us as we waited for our food. Love that the drinks were never empty. As we sat there, we made some new friends, the locals welcomed us in with open arms and couldn't be nicer. Little tip, food might back up in the kitchen, but the staff and food make up for it. 5 stars all around here and can't wait to be back to try the best looking burgers I've seen here to date! read more

Ate here again. The food is still very good and the service was excellent. I had a Rueben and side salad. Very fresh ingredients and very large portions. I could not locate a current menu on Facebook or in Yelp so I took pictures. We sat in the side room at the front window. There were flies buzzing around us the whole time. I understand that with the temperatures dropping the flies are coming in but it did put a buzz in the ambiance. There were boxes laying around, stuff out of place and the place is a bit outdated. Overall I would give the food and service five stars but the ambiance three stars hence the four star rating. read more

Well this is my 2nd review in 2 years and it got even better. The meatball sub was incredible. The onion rings are a must have as a side. The Cody Creation was so killer. Well I seen that a few friends had been here over the past few weeks so decided to try it out myself! Wasn't disappointed! If you like good bar food this is the spot. I had the tiki' burger. It had Swiss cheese bacon pineapple and a bourbon glaze and let me tell you it was phenomenal! The hand cut fries was as well! Had some family with me but unfortunately I didn't get pictures of their food! lol I was slacking ! But one had the Elvis burger it had Swiss cheese bacon and peanut butter and jalapeños. He said it was delicious two others had the chicken bacon ranch sandwich and fries according to them the sandwich's tasted really good! It's a small place but they was very accommodating to some other large parties ! This is or formerly was the old Ashville dinner so it still have that ambience of an old dinner/bar. Very cool place! Our waitress was super busy but she took care of us very well. Ashbrook Distillery is really just a bar. It doesn't actually distill anything. They do serve a few distilled products. A few are locally made. The atmosphere is kind of hillbilly and hipster together. I had some bourbon. It has many to choose from. There's lots of the typical kinds of whiskey. Plus many others that aren't everywhere. The Bird Dog comes in many flavors. Blueberry is one of these. It's about $6 for a pour. This was pretty strong tasting but it wasn't overwhelmingly so. It also has some food. The typical bar stuff like pizza and wings. It's one of the few interesting things about Ashville. Small town charm. Yet it still has a coolness about it. read more

As a newcomer to this town, they have the best pizza I've found so far, and everyone has positive things to say about the things I haven't yet tried. The service is busy bar steady. Lots of regulars there. A fair number of tables for groups and families that don't mind a noisy active environment. Customers and staff always cordial and pleasant when I've been. And I'll undoubtedly keep going as the spirit moves me. That's a recommendation, as there are lots of places I don't go more than once. read more

Wow, we accidentally came across this place as we were looking for a place to eat while our son was waiting to run a track and field event right down the road. We came on a Wednesday and we were pleasantly surprised when we found out that it was $1 wing Wednesday and $5 bourbon night. The wings come in smoked or fried and I ended up getting 5 of each. As you can see from the photos, they are huge! It's a small place with a cook and a few kids helping with the food management. The appetizer was also fantastic as they were hand cut fries loaded with bacon and cheese. The Mrs. ended up getting the haystack burger and let me tell you, that thing was also huge. The server staff was super friendly, and they answered all of my questions around the food and establishment. The location looked like an old soda shop and I was right when I asked the question. We will definitely be coming back to this place for another wing Wednesday. read more

I stopped in here around 6:00 pm on Tuesday with a friend who lives over in South Bloomfield. The place was very busy, but we were able to seat ourselves at a table without any wait. There were two waitresses serving, and ours was apparently the dramatic one. We didn't see any food for over an hour, and were about to get up an leave just when everything finally arrived. The one and only time that I stopped our server to ask where our food was resulted in a 5 minute dissertation on how hard she was trying and how short staffed the place was. However, the next section over had a larger party that was seated just after us, and their food came out nearly 20 minutes before ours. Their server appeared busy, but calm and in control. It should also be noted that there was a large party immediately next to us that was apparently friends/family with our waitress, and she sat down with them a few times to mix her drama with theirs. A hot mess for sure, which is a shame, because the food was decent. I had an Italian sub and fries, and my buddy had a burger. The sub was spot on, and the fries were fresh-cut and hot. The burger looked good too, and my friend enjoyed it. There was a good buzz in the place, and they were surely having a good night. Management may wish to focus a bit on service and cleanliness - it wasn't super clean, but passable. read more

I have heard nothing but great things about this place so hubby and I finally decided to try it. So we ventured out to Ashville. When arriving we discovered that there was a food truck festival that day, so the menu at the actual restaurant was limited due to their food truck being outside. We could only order things that were cooked in an oven, pizza's and subs. No deep fried or grilled food. I was disappointed as I wanted to try the Grilled Cheese and Wings. With that said the bartender was probably the best I have ever encountered very friendly and attentive. She even went outside to get a picture of the food truck menu and said we could order from the truck and bring the food back in to eat. She gave great customer service. The food truck was limited and no grilled cheese but I was able to get the wings that I had heard so much about. The wings were ok, and maybe this is because they were from the food truck and I believe they were made ahead to keep up with demand so they were a little dry, but I tried the Cody sauce and have to say it was the bomb! So good spicy and tangy....my hubby got the cheeseburger, which is another item we heard so much about and it was again ok, not bad but nothing spectacular. The actual restaurant itself is cute, nice large bar but very small inside so I imagine that the wait can be pretty long on a normal day. I will probably stop back and hopefully be able to choose from the menu without having to order from the food truck to see if there is a difference. Looking for a place to grab a bite after a business meeting, I stumbled across Ashbrook. The atmosphere is great, the staff friendly, the beer cold and the food was amazing. I've been to Ashville many times, how have I never been to this place before? Started off with the Hillbilly Calamari which are banana peppers deep fried with ranch dressing...very different and delicious! The Italian stallion burger was equally as delicious. This was the type of fresh hamburger that was piled high with toppings and big enough that the bottom bun gives out about 3/4 the way through and you finish the symphony of goodness with a fork. Fries were fresh cut and perfect with vinegar and salt. The beer was cold and served in a chilled glass. Add in fair pricing and great conversation from the staff and you have the perfect lunch. My husband and I adore this place! The atmosphere is great, the service is fantastic and they have the best wings I've ever had. The bourbon sauce is to die for!!! All of their food is really good. We ordered 70 wings for the OSU/ Michigan game and they accommodated us with no issues. Even helped me carry everything out and gave us extra sauces. Prime rib special is well worth the price, came with plenty of sides and was more food than a normal person could eat in one setting. They have amazing pizzas and burgers and an out of this world jalapeño grilled cheese sandwich you will also find specials most days of the week. For a bar, this place hits it out of the park. The loaded nachos were recommended and you can see your food being prepared right in front of you. Excellent! Tables are grab them when you can so everyone stalks around waiting to jump on a table. I dont really worry about covid but if you have the least bit of worry i would avoid this place . They for sure dont worry about covid at this resturant at all.
