It has been years since I have ran or even wanted work out. I went back to the same store and received the same great service. They didn't have the right shoe because I was in a wide but I have 3 kids and a wife that I would have no problem returning to get fit. I'll be back! read more

The guy running the shop just stared at me open mouthed as I described the shoots of pain I'd been experiencing, only offering that it probably wasn't my shoes and not providing anything from his own experience or the experiences of others when this occurs. I walked in hoping to try on a few pairs of minimalist shoes. I'm an avid ultra-distance runner, so I know what kind of shoe I'm looking for and what I need. I had my two year old son with me who was well behaved, but is a mover. When we first went in, the woman who greeted me was curt and rude. She was helping another customer, so I was ready to wait. But instead, she looked at me and, with an exasperated sigh, said, "Can I help you?" So I told her I'd like to try on whatever minimalist shoes she had in my size. That I typically run in Newtons (which they don't carry) and Mizunos. She left without a word and hurried back dropping three boxes of shoes in front of me, loosening the laces, and then - again - walked away. I hadn't told her I'm an experienced runner or that I didn't need any help. She apparently was just THAT disinterested in giving me any thing other than the bare minimum. After trying the first pair, I asked her if they have any high mileage/performance minimalists like Altras. She rolled her eyes and said, "you don't really get high mileage from minimalist shoes because, like, they just don't have as much sole, so....you kind of obviously wear them out faster." I replied, "Actually, I have a pair of minimalist trail shoes with 500 miles on them and a ton of life left. I thought that was the point of minimalist shoes?" Again, with the eye roll. After I tried them all on she asked, "So do any of them work." I kindly replied, "Nope, not at all" and she whisked them away as if I'd ruined her day. In the process of all this, my son was behaving himself while exploring. She was visibly annoyed with his presence. I was just appalled at the entire experience. She wasn't helpful in the least, didn't discuss the shoes she brought out to me or why she believed they matched what I might want or need (she didn't discuss what I wanted or needed - so how could she possibly know?). She was rude at every step of my visit. I've been to literally hundreds of running stores all over the country, and I have never met a more rude or disinterested employee. If you want good shoes, and someone who will take the time to fit you properly, discuss your running habits, mileage, goals, gait/form, and any muscular issues, then go to a REAL running store, like GEAR or TC Running Company. Stay away from Running Room - they only carry the most popular brands (which, in my experience, make the worst shoes) and apparently don't actually care about their customers. read more

I'm training for my first marathon and had gone to many other running and sporting goods stores to find shoes and gear. I am so glad I found my way to the Running Room. Rebecca was super helpful. In fact, every staff member at the store is friendly and knowledgeable. I finally got the "right" pair of running shoes and my running has become much more enjoyable and pain free. I am new to running, and I'm glad I stopped in to the Running Room. The clerk helped me find a great pair of running shoes that fit and were comfortable. Although I have yet to run more than five miles at any given time, my feet feel great. The running room also hosted a 5K on New Year's Eve. Even though it was freezing outside, the run was a lot of fun. The course was dotted with people cheering the entire group on. It was especially great when it was that cold! I went in to get a good shoe recommended for me. I even brought in my current shoes to show the associates my ware pattern. I was never asked my milage, type of running, watched how I ran, or did anyone look at how I was currently waring my shoes. I was told I needed a wider fit and was shown a pair of sauconys. I was also told to take them for a run to see if I like them. If I didn't , I could bring them back. That is exactly what I did.... ran in them. The new shoes made my feet tingle and throb. A week after purchase I went to return the shoes with receipt and packaging. Not only was I told they would not exchange them because of how "worn" they were, they had the nerve to tell me the shoes just must not have fit right. These people were the same ones that told me these are the best fit for me a week prior. Now I'm out 150.00 and have shoes that hurt my feet. Don't go to this store. They don't know running shoes and they don't keep what they promise to make a sale. read more

Wow, would not recommend this place to even my competitors. Was in there today and after about 15 minutes trying on 2 pairs of shoes, I was told that I had to pick one, as he had other customers that he had to help. I left. There were 3 people working there and 2 customers (the other customer was in there before we even went in). Ended up going to Right Fit Running in Mounds View and bought 2 pairs of shoes. How does a place stay open with such bad customer service. Prices were the same in both places, but Right Fit was much more knowledgeable and had much better service. read more

This will be my first review I have ever written for a store. I have been a customer of The Running Room for the last 4 years, purchasing a higher quality shoe due to wearing orthotics and being a nurse on my feet a lot. I am not the "typical runner" that may walk through those doors. I have never considered the staff "friendly", but I was willing to overlook this for their competency in which shoe to purchase. Recently, I purchased a new pair in hopes to replace the overly used and loved tennis shoes I had purchased from them last time. Due to our 40 mile one way commute to get to this store, I was unable to meet their return timetable when this shoe did not fit correctly, and made my toes numb. After learning that the timetable was beyond their policy, there were no offers other than you can purchase another pair of shoes. Easily sharing what they couldn't do for me, vs, what they could. I am a customer who will be purchasing a high quality shoe for the rest of my life. I do share with others places I shop. I do share I may pay more for customer service and customer appreciation. In addition, the young shoe salesman started expressing I should go somewhere else, and was very curt with his words. The more age advanced salesman did not crack a smile while we walked in, or out. Perhaps a middle aged woman with her son in a wheelchair didn't fit the description of a runner. My advice to this store is to take a good look at customer service. Maybe the policy had expired, but perhaps to keep my business, an offer of a new shoe at a dissent, while trading the old in. ? A smile and kind word also goes a long way. I have tried this store 3 times and will never return. The guys that run this store are very unfriendly and uninterested in any questions or concerns you may have with regard to running shoes. They also have no treadmill to run on for testing shoes and/or to watch you run in order to put you in the proper running shoes for your running style. In fact, they don't even care to see you walk to determine which running shoes would be a good match for neutral, over-pronation, etc. I purchased a pair of running shoes, tested them out on treadmill at our gym, didn't work for me at all, and when I went back to return (or exchange them), they analyzed them to death and actually asked me if I ran outside in them! After much hesitation on their part, I did get my money back and purchased running shoes elsewhere. It seems that if you don't like what you are doing and don't care to listen to or help your customers, maybe you should be in another business... just sayin'... read more
