There are three garden stores near my home and I shop at all three. They are Bachman's, Wagner's, and Sunnyside Gardens. Bachman's is huge and has a large collection of plants and.gardening supplies. In many ways its size is a liability as it is difficult to find what you are looking for and often the staff are not knowledgeable. Wagner's on the other hand is smaller. They don't have as much stock but in general their staff are reasonably well Informed. Sunnyside Gardens is a nice compromise in size. The quality of their merchandise is excellent and their staff are accessible and seem knowledgeable. They are easy to reach and there is lots of nearby parking. I highly recommend. read more

Sunny gives the vibe that everything is going to be pricey in a "if you have to ask, you can't afford it" sort of way. However, after several visits and purchases later, I was very wrong. I have bought a lot of plants here and have got even more advice from the incredibly helpful staff. They answer all my incredibly dumb, repetitive questions. They help me find the specific type of whatever plant I am looking for. For example, we bought a bunch of hydrangeas and a staff member helped us think through which variant would be best in specific locations in our yard. They also have a home goods shop with some really nice decorative stuff, too. read more

Sunnyside Gardens is more than just a garden center. They are clearly invested in the community around them, and it shows in how they operate. Their focus on bringing living art into everyday spaces really stands out. The selection of plants, flowers, and garden materials is strong, and everything feels thoughtfully chosen rather than generic. It is the kind of place that helps you build something that actually lasts. What also stands out is their ongoing involvement in the community. You get the sense they care about more than just selling plants. They are contributing to the spaces people live in and helping make them better. If you are looking for a garden center with high quality plants, knowledgeable service, and a real connection to the local community, Sunnyside Gardens is an easy choice. read more

This is the place to go if you want the prettiest everything. Since it's the end of October, I didn't think they would have much, but actually there is a really wide selection of houseplants, orchids, succulents, Christmas decor, everything you need to make your own planters, or beautiful finished designs that you can simply plop into your urns and be done. Sunnyside Gardens is not huge and overwhelming like some garden centers. Everything is displayed in lovely groupings. And if you're super picky, you won't have to hunt through a whole selection of finished planters to find the best one, because every single one is the best. They are all full and lush and perfectly done. Same with their houseplants. Every single one is healthy and has a beautiful shape. I wish I could buy everything in here! read more

Consistently the best quality and selection for spring, summer and fall flowers. Unusual, elegant and unique selections for indoor and outdoor planters and flower boxes. Their home goods and decor is epic! Trill is my first stop always for birthday, housewarming and holiday gifts. Simply the best! read more

Very nice selection of plants, especially in the summer when you want to do your landscaping. In the winter it's a wonderful escape from the cold and snow and they can have great end of season deals on certain items. Overall they're a bit pricy for houseplants but everything I've gotten from them has been very healthy and looks wonderful in my home. They have lovely seasonal displays as well. read more

This place is amazing. Beautiful, huge plants that are cheaper than any grocery store. I walked out with 4 for the new porch. The sunflowers are gigantic. Get on the frequent buyer program. I was on it from 10 plus years ago and never knew it. There's someone to load the car. read more

Sunnyside Gardens truly is the place to go if you're shopping in Minneapolis! I stopped in for some mums, and was greeted immediately and directed towards what I was looking for! While I was shopping, an employee made sure to check in with me, and even gave some advice on what bloom level of mum would be best for me! Trill is also filled with plenty of goodies and stocking stuffers! Super excited to go back read more

They sold me three different pine trees, one of which I now know isn't even designated for our zone. When it died, Sarah told us there was no return policy on this pine tree as it isn't designated for our cold winters. When I told her that I was confused about why they would sell them then, she backtracked and said people buy the pine trees as annuals. Annuals?! Over the course of two years, the other two died as well because of our cold winters and yet again, Sarah was of no help. read more

This is a great garden store in a central location. Despite its modest size, they have a really wide selection of plants that are healthy and well cared for. While they are a bit more pricey than say the big box stores, it feels great to support a local business and to get high quality plants. In the end, you save time shopping here because their staff can direct you right to where the plants can be found. read more

We hired the team from Sunnyside to re-landscape our back yard, after construction. They installed at least 6 weeks after promised date. More than half of the plants were not the ones on the signed contract. Wrong specimens, wrong colors. Appears to be what they had left over at the end of the season. And by the way, this was pre pandemic. Extremely disappointed, because as you might imagine, it was not a low-cost project. This is the first time I have reviewed a business on Yelp. Thats how disappointed I am. I have continued to contact via email with no response. Absolutely do not recommend read more

Recommend Sunnyside Gardens to anyone who is a plant enthusiast!! They have a massive selection of plants and they always seem to have a new ultra rare plant to buy, and I do. My only two critiques I'd make are that some of the plant prices are steep $$$.. Also didn't sit with me well that they weren't willing to discount a sick plant that was completely engulfed with spider mites. Wish they'd move sick and damaged plants to a Discounted table for the ones needing a little extra TLC. Nevertheless I'd still recommend this place to anyone without hesitation. read more

I was in and out of here in 30 minutes thanks to Toni's wonderful help! I live by Sunnyside and would like to be a frequent customer, but I just think it's overpriced. You can do that when your the only garden center in the prime locale of corner of Edina/SLP/SW Minneapolis. BUT, I get lazy sometimes and choose here for convenience. Damn, my laziness always seems to bring me down. The service is has always been good. Nothing over the top, but I don't have to wander around aimlessly looking for some help. Husband bought an expensive tangerine flower plant thing (see how good my flora knowledge is?) that died shortly thereafter and they gave him his money back. That makes it A-OK in my book. read more

At the tender of [REDACTED], my interest in the art of home decorating has started to grow. I came out to Sunnyside Gardens for the indoor farmer's market, but there was only one stall selling actual produced so my attention turned to the store itself. Long fragrant rows of evergreens in varying heights and species, waiting to be precariously tied to car tops, and then festooned with lights and ornaments that require much bickering over their placement. Boughs of holly, rose hips, and other unidentifiable plant matter to be placed into vases or put on the mantle with candles artfully strewn through. A sea of poinsettias, waves of ivory and pink and red, hoping for a place in a home.* It all smelled very good and looked very pretty. It was also utterly terrifying; I had no idea how to start to decorate my apartment worthy of a Martha Stewart Christmas. I made my way back there the next day with Sam. I was determined to start with a wreath. Fortunately, they had a very good wreath section where we found a 16" circle of fir. Check. Found a metal thing that would allow us to hang it from the door. Check. Found spool upon spool of ribbon by the yard but settled for a pre-made bow. Check. The handmade birch snowmen beckoned to me. Now one of them is sitting pretty on our bookshelf with a little ribbon scarf (I CAN be crafty). The trip there and back took about an hour with no tears shed, which I consider a victory. Even more so since none of the staff took it upon themselves to say hello or ask if we needed help. Since the prices are not cheap, it would be sensible to make up for it with customer service. Clueless babes in the woods like ourselves would have appreciated it, hence the low rating. * If you own a cat, don't get a poinsettia; the flowers are toxic to feline friends. A friend last year lost her kitty after it ate part of one. read more

I don't know much about gardening, and haven't been to many garden stores in my life. I was going to give Sunnyside 5 stars, but when I saw everyone else's reviews I realized yeah, maybe it's a little overpriced, and some of the people working there should know a little more about gardening than they do. But I digress... I came here with a friend because I wanted to pick some plants out for my room at college (why wouldn't you want plants in your room?) And I was amazed by the selection! We kept walking and walking and would run into more awesome plants! I couldn't decide what to buy. You can buy pre-potted arrangements of any size. Literally, there was one that looked like it weighed probably 1000 pounds. You can buy decorative trees for your yard. Or you can buy plants for your bedroom. So I picked out a few plants that I thought were pretty badass, but I wasn't entirely sure if they would thrive indoors. The lady at the check-out desk thankfully had the answer to my question. She then directed me to the succulents and other plants that would work better indoors. I picked out an even better plant and was good to go! Super happy with my 2 plants. Although they set me back $18, I know it will be a smart investment in the end. read more

This is a great store than can make a gardener wanna be of most people. The collection of plants and varieties is excellent and the staff is knowledgeable. However, as Sarah P. mentions in her review, I find the items overpriced. The location is very convenient for me so I do end up going here once in a while and always find more than what I need. Their pottery is very attractive too but ridiculously expensive. Gerten's is far far away but that's where I end up going to buy in bulk - their selection and prices are very attractive. read more

I love the location of this place, but honestly? It's so hit or miss. First of all, I bought some herbs here to start my herb garden (indoors due to poor soil in the area and no actual land space). I bought some rosemary that looked great...until I realized it was infected with fungal gnats....which infected all of my other houseplants. Goodbye mint. Goodbye basil. It was nice while it lasted. The pottery is beautiful and they have decent sales each week, but honestly? I'm just sticking with the farmers market for my plants and herbs. The service is hit or miss. If you are working in a garden center, is it too much to ask that you know slightly more than I do (a gardening novice at most) about gardening? It is? That's really too bad..... read more

Why did it take me so long to come here??!!?? I am itching to do some gardening and decided to buy some annuals to at least get my front step urns done. We had a Chinook book coupon and were running errands in the neighborhood. Image if Bachmans and Wagners had a baby ... you would get Sunnyside. They have the high end quality you expect from Bachmans but at the reasonable prices you get at Wagners. I ended up getting more annuals than originally planned because they were such good quality and affordable. However as I said to P, I would still buy mulch elsewhere cause it is cheaper. Definitely plan to go back later in the season. read more

I'm writing this review for the Linden Hills Winter market that is a part of Sunnyside Gardens. My friends and I came here on a Sunday and found Street parking easily. It was a warm day when we came here and bonus, it's a heated covered market, this was a surprise to have such warmth while strolling the vendors. There was live music with a mixture of Christmas music and regular songs. It was crowded, but not impossible to move around. All of the vendors were local and selling various items from jewelry, clothing, soaps, handbags, and many food vendors. There were hot sauces, salsas, olive oils, mushroom jerky, nuts, salmon, tinctures, energy bars, baked goods, kombucha, and other things. There are individual rooms that are all connected, which makes the atmosphere more intimate. I would classify this as more of an artisan market versus a Farmer's market. I only saw 1 vendor selling fresh vegetables. I'm glad I checked this out once, I'd go back as I have a feeling there might be different vendors cycling in/out. Prices seemed a little inflated. read more

I came here today to buy some annuals. They had a beautiful selection of dhalias and gerber daisies. In addition they had succulents. The people here were friendly and the layout was really user friendly. I could spend hours wandering around here and will be visiting again soon. read more

This is a review of my experience with their landscaping service. In a nutshell: overpriced and underqualified. Two years after a significant purchase of plants, trees, and flowers from Sunnyside, I hired another service who spent most of their time, and my money, fixing what Sunnyside had done poorly, wrong, or not at all. Response to my issues was slow and then, I suppose after the check cleared, non-existent. Two stars means they did a few things right, but for what they charged I was expecting great, not meh, results. read more

I came here with my daughter as she lives nearby. I was very disappointed. I am an avid gardener so I know most of the large & small nurseries and garden stores. For the average quality, the plants were WAY overpriced, most annuals were sold singly, which I hate. Wonderful Garden Center! Great customer service and talented staff.

Poor customer service: I waked in and around the entire place and no one greeted me or offered to help. Just had a great experience at Sunnyside! I needed help choosing plants for a new window box, and they took extra time to help me choose plants--even placing them out so that I could see how it would look.
