Rundle Bar is versatile - you can either come here for a fancy lunch/afternoon tea, or for some upscale bar experience during happy hour/late nights! The dress code is smart casual, and my party definitely was not dressed for the occasion since we only packed hiking outfits. I came here with my parents on Thanksgiving day in the afternoon. We were able to make reservation on OpenTable, and had the option to choose an afternoon tea set or a la carte. I found out later through our server that reservations are typically only for parties that are interested in afternoon tea. Nonetheless, we were able to seat at the corner of the restaurants with beautiful views facing the bow river and the corner of the castle - just beautiful views! Aside from the views that we were taking in, the food was fantastic as well. Ordering a la carte, the dishes were a bit smaller in size, but are good for sharing and sampling a few with your party. Of all, my favorite was the duck wings appetizer, and the chips from the bison burger dish. The bison burger itself didn't quite meet my expectations, since I wasn't expecting it to be shredded. All in all, this was a great experience. The price for ordering a la cart dishes wasn't quite expensive, and the views were just beautiful. This place is really just about the view as far as I can tell. The view is nice. There's a bit of a pond and golf course. My husband and I didn't try the food, but had a couple drinks and the cookie dessert. The drinks were decent. For the cookie just beware that it does come with nuts and they cannot do it without nuts and it's also impossible to avoid the nuts. I was terribly disappointed by this, so my husband had to eat the whole thing. He thought it was okay. So between the okay dessert and the okay drinks this place is going to be rated okay by me. 3 stars. read more

It is located on mezzanine two of the Fairmont Banff. When you walk in, you are greeted by a live pianist and views of tunnel mountain. We went for high tea for my friend's birthday. The tea set is $82 cad per person. Each person gets to choose their own tea and we opted for the Ontario Ice wine (white tea with berry notes) and Masala Chai. The white tea was on the lighter side and I enjoyed it more to complement the sweeter desserts. My friend enjoyed the Chai more as it was very flavorful. There's an hourglass timer on the table so you can steep your tea to your liking (light, medium, strong). The food menu is set and you start off with some scones accompanied by clotted cream and orange marmalade. Then came the rest of the food on a tower. There was an egg salad sandwich, goat cheese quiche, Icelandic salmon dill sandwich, chicken salad sandwich, lamb curry roll, tomato fennel roll, and roasted beets and thyme Choux pastry. Each one was light and flavorful. The desserts included a pistachio pinwheel, caramel praline eclair, raspberry matcha cake, espresso infused cheesecake, and dark chocolate ganache cake. My favorites were the Icelandic dill sandwich and espresso infused cheesecake. Located in the stunning Fairmont Hotel in downtown Banff, Rundle Bar is a must-visit spot. We were saving money and staying down the street in a hostel, but wanted to come enjoy this castle-like hotel one evening. Anyone can walk in to snag a drink or snacks at the Rundle Bar. This bar is beautiful and while they do have an indoor section, you should definitely go out back. The back has an amazing view of the mountains, a huge pool below, tons of cozy outdoor furniture, fire pits, blankets, and even had live music when we stopped in. A server came over as soon as we sat down and recommended some fun drinks. He was so awesome and personable. The cocktails weren't cheap, but we each just got one and enjoyed the drop-dead stunning outdoors while drinking it slowly, so it was definitely worth it. The chips were freshly made and warm - seriously you need to try them. Additionally, the warm chocolate sea salt cookie was the perfect way to end the night. Thai place is a little more upscale and pricey; however, being in the fairmont that is to be expected. They have an extensive drink menu, and offer a variety a small plates to accompany them. We were so excited for our afternoon high tea at the princess castle of Banff! The hotel is gorgeous and was very busy on a Saturday afternoon. Patio was full, multiple weddings ongoing, etc. We made our way to Rundle (way finding in the hotel isn't the best) and was shown to our table. Afternoon tea time allotment is 2.5 hours. Our server Amy was very sweet and accommodating. As somewhat of a self-proclaimed tea expert, the teas were mediocre quality. My Darjeeling tasted very bland/light - either not enough tea or the tea leaves were not of quality. I didn't even bother taking out the bag because it was so light. Same story with the oolong. The scones arrived first, followed by the tea tower. The savory bites were all quite good. The pastries, not so much. I hope the Pastry Chef takes this to heart - but the only pastry the group of 6 enjoyed was the eclair. Perfect portion of cream filling to flakey light exterior. Everything else was extremely heavy/dense, tasted off, or was dry. Worst offender was what was supposed to be matcha cake. It was layered with incredibly sour raspberry and "yuzu", which frankly tasted more like coconut. As a matcha lover, it was offensive! The ambiance and of course the view was one of a kind, but the actual substance was disappointing, especially at a property as iconic as the Fairmont Banff. Rundle Bar was at this rime, the only restaurant open for lunch and dinner at the Fairmount Hotel in Banff ( formerly Banff Hot Springs). The venue was fantastic, luxurious with a spectacular mountain backdrop. After going to it's spa, we decided to treat ourselves for lunch. Although Fairmont's Rumble offers high tea, we opted instead for it's nice culinary cuisine. Everything was great except that we didn't feel welcomed from the hostess and our waitress. It was a bit different considering it wasn't full. Very pricey for the type of food we ordered...I guess we expected more like Rimrock hotel's Eden. If there is one thing you do while visiting Banff, have lunch on a sunny day at the Rundle Lounge. Aside from getting to explore the wonderful Banff Springs Hotel, you enjoy great food, pleasant service and a world class view. I've always enjoyed my meals at Rundle. This one was particularly good, the Rundle Beef Burger with a side Bistro salad. They offer gluten free versions of every sandwich as well. Check it out! Just returned after a few years. Rundle has updated its menu, more shareables and appetizers, fewer full lunches. But the food remains excellent and the view of the mountains hasn't changed a bit! read more

We came here on a Friday at noon and the place was empty, so we could sit anywhere we wanted. We found a table near the window and ordered the famous Fairmont Banff Springs Wildflower (purple gin+tonic) drink, the pulled pork sandwich, the prosciutto flatbread, and shrimp cocktail for lunch. The shrimp cocktail only comes with 5 pieces of shrimp, but they are very large pieces and cooked to perfection. If I wasn't so full from the other dishes, I would have easily ordered another shrimp cocktail! The pulled pork sandwich was nice and tender, and the flatbread was done really well. Of course, you can't beat the view! It was sunny on the day we visited, so after we placed the food order we went outside to take a few photos (the view was gorgeous). You don't need to stay at Fairmont Banff Springs to dine at Rundle Bar, which was very nice. Our server was super friendly and the food service was quite fast (maybe because there weren't too many diners at the time). Overall fantastic experience. read more

My review is based on Afternoon Tea on Boxing Day on the 2nd floor. This was the highlight of my trip to Banff! I'd heard about Christmas at the Castle and I wasn't disappointed at all. The Rundle Lounge is a spot at the Fairmont Banff Springs. We parked in the little parking lot. We paid C$24 for about 2 hours. I'm not sure if we'd be able to valet park, but we didn't try. Tea is served on the upper level of the Rundle Lounge. Upon arriving, we were greeted by the hostess who led us to our table with the most beautiful v i e w s of the mountains. Each table had a lovely setting and including a tea sampler box where you could choose 1 tea per person. I went for the Egyptian Chamomile while my husband chose the Christmas Tea special. There's an option to do the Champagne Tea which includes champagne and a fancy cheese board. The afternoon tea sandwiches and desserts were the perfect amount for the 2 of us. (I even was able to take some of the desserts home as I couldn't finish mine!) While we were waiting, we were served a fruit cup of tiny sliced cubes of fruit. Our tea came and we used the table's sand timers to remind us when to remove our bags from the pot. Super handy! I need one of those at home as I'm an avid tea drinker. Our sweets and sandwiches were presented on a triangular wooden serving platter with the scones and chocolate crinkle cookies on top followed by the desserts and the savory sandwiches on the bottom layer. Our server was friendly and nice, and she explained what each sandwich and sweet item was. My favorites were the egg salad (I'm a vegetarian) and surprisingly the mushroom hummus. For the sweets, I liked the macaron and the carrot cake. The scones were tasty as well and traditionally eaten first. In addition to the tea, I enjoyed a lovely glass of Chilean rosé. Our bill came to $109 including tip. I think the tea service was less than $50 per person. Honestly, this was the perfect place to spend a cold afternoon in Banff. I absolutely loved it. Last week I visited the terrace and I still can't stop thinking of it! After a hike nearby, we decided to splurge on a drink and app at the Fairmont at the top of the hill. We went into this knowing we'd be spending a little more than extra but I was really happy with the variety of options between drinks and food. I had an apricot sour beer and we ordered the guacamole to split. The guacamole was really unique, with a good amount of citrus and pepitas. Portion was just enough to split. Service was great, staff was very attentive and friendly. And you're truly there for the view which absolutely delivers. It was a fun splurge to check out! read more

How do you rate, fairly, a place that was so exceptional that a 5-star is a negative?! The amount of care and kindness we experienced for the afternoon tea was beyond what was expected. I want to give 10 stars, but it won't let me. It was our 30th wedding anniversary and the entire staff went above and beyond. I can't remember his name because my wife and I were so enamored by his kindness. It was either Marco or Franco (I am horrible with names) and was the absolute best!! He explained everything about tea and what we would experience, which was awesome! He took care of us with delicious champagne and incredible recommendations food. He takes pride in his job and making others happy and we have so much gratitude for him and the entire staff. The host (forgot his name too) was great and super friendly as well. This review is about tea service, and not about drinking in the bar area. As a side note, we did look at their bar menu later and noted the prices were very high (as were a lot of things at this high-end hotel). Since we didn't know what time we were getting into town, we booked the last possible time slot for tea on Sunday. Prior to our visit, we got texts and emails confirming our reservation. We were seated near a large window overlooking the terrace below, the river, and nearby mountains. The view was gorgeous. We enjoyed the savory and sweet items and our tea selections (it was so good, we ended up purchasing their exclusive blend from a hotel store to take home with us). Two things kept this from being an ideal experience, however. First, was that there was a very large wedding reception going on the bar area before they relocated to one of the dining rooms. It was so loud, it was hard to enjoy the relaxed experience we typically associate with afternoon tea. Second, we waited a very long time to receive our bill. We kept looking around for staff and had a hard time finding them. Still an enjoyable, if not ideal, experience. read more

The views of the mountains are absolutely breathtaking, and the live piano added to the ambiance. I appreciated that I was contacted ahead of time about any dietary restrictions and that my allergy was accommodating buy substituting for another sandwich that was still unique from the other served to me. This place really only deserves 1*, however the next night we went back (not sure why) and the server was great! Went for cocktails, very disappointing, most cocktails are just mixed drinks! Not the Shake, Rattle and Roll, Fire, Ice, Garnish or Flair that would be expected from a high end cocktail! lucky to even get a piece of Lemon although one glass did have a 6inch piece of Rosemary too big for the glass just plonked in! All the staff were milling around a circular table just chatting, not interested in the customers, so we had to go and ask for more drinks! REALLY! Then to cap it all a couple came in and wanted to watch another sports game on the TV! Some Jerk of a waiter changed the channel for them telling them there were no other Canadians there so this was fine with out asking anyone else in the room, then proceeds to turn the sound up as well! This place has a very nice mountain view. Came here with 2 other friends and we just needed a place to sit down and have some water. So I tried the plain quesadilla and the Rundle BBQ Beef Burger. First off the quesadilla came with salsa, sour crème and guacamole on the side. I have to say their quesadilla is very tasty. The burger was delicious. It was a bit greasy but its real meat. Very delicious. Service was slow but we don't mind. We just sit here and enjoy the view longer. The view looking out the window was surreal. Especially a picture I took. My husband and I were here at the end of July and decided to try and catch the day start to wane (as the sunset doesn't begin until after 9:30!) with a cocktail. The room itself is beautiful and reminiscent of a Swiss chateau with plush armchairs and heavy wood tables strewn about in intimate groupings. It had been raining all day, and so despite the clear skies for the rest of the evening, the outside seating area was closed (everything was soaked, we totally understand). Seating is first-come-first-serve here, and somehow we snagged seats right by the window in a cozy corner nook - it was our lucky day! We nestled onto our pillow-laiden couch/bench and perused the menu. We decided on the edamame appetizer (which was nothing short of delicious) - a perfect balance of umami and saltiness with our drinks. I ordered a Gin Gimlet (my new favorite drink) and he had a Whiskey on the rocks concoction. My drink was strong, sharp, and expertly made. The drinks were only eclipsed by the views. The vibe is slightly romantic, intimate, and cozy. I wore a casual dress and my husband was in a button down - we were surrounded by both people dressed much more fancy, and much more casual - so seems like anything goes for the attire! The service is great too, our waitress was nice without rushing us - which is always appreciated, even if we're just having a cocktail. Despite the Fairmont being a big hub of people and tourists, this spot felt a million years away from the hubble-bubble of downtown. A perfect intimate (and pretty romantic) pre dinner cocktail spot. Get ready to soak up the view as you feel your muscles unwind and relax - can't say if this had more to do with the alcohol or the views, but I'm going to say it was a little to do with both!
