I'm giving five stars for the best food we had during a week in Banff and the best view in the world, but note, the menu is different for The Lookout outside and the Rundle Lounge inside. The food is good outside but spectacular inside. The service at The Lookout was friendly and unhurried, and the prices very reasonable considering the setting. The waffle fries was crispy and delicious, perfectly and simply seasoned, lightly fried. The cauliflower salad was good but not spectacular Inside is another story. If you can take cauliflower, as they do, and make it make it a mouth watering spicy dish that drives a return visit, you can really cook. The tempura green beans are sensational too. We had a velvety potato soup on one of our visits and an excellent butternut squash soup on the other. Both soups were filling and served in an ample amount. Four great dishes in four tries. Truly exceptional. The only oddity is why such a gourmet locale serves a pedestrian bowl of crunch snacks such as pretzels and rice crackers that you could get at any convenience store. The service was superb. This, in our opinion (I and wife both), is the can't-miss Banff destination for food lovers. read more

Tea selection excellent but not amazing and fresh preserves, baked scones and clotted whipped cream is excellent. Service above average but not as high quality as it could be. A cute lounge with beautiful views and a nice selection of drinks and snacks. I tried a kiwi, gin cocktail and it was so delicious and beautiful. The server brought out a small dish of pretzels and snack mix to munch on with our drink. Overall the service was prompt and friendly and the mixed drinks were memorable and delicious. read more

Decent and pricey (expected) menu items in this lounge within the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. On a nice day the shady side patio was a nice place to sit and enjoy appetizers and drinks. Small tables and chairs closer to the lawn area, and comfy lounge sofas near the hotel wall surrounding fire pits and lined with heaters for cool evening gatherings. Wish there were more beer selections available. Main Rundle Lounge is indoors with a couple dozen tables. I preferred the outdoor area. read more

Had lunch here one day and the portions were sooo small! haha. Well I ordered a steak salad and it was like slices of steak with a side salad. Luckily I wasn't too hungry haha. Great spot for a casual meal or to grab a drink after a day of hiking. They had live music most of the time and the tables are placed far enough apart that it feels more intimate. While I will probably never be able to lay claim to having travelled every corner of our planet, I suspect Rundle Lounge's outdoor patio offers a view that few others can match. Anywhere! The storied, cosy and intimate bar is located at the back end of the iconic Fairmont Banff Spring Hotel. While the view was a given, the very high quality of their cocktails was unexpected. Especially surprising was the offering of their aptly named "forgery cocktails". Case in point: think you have experienced a great ginger ale? Think again. Banff Springs House-Made Ginger Ale $8, composed of lemon juice, ginger purée, soda water, candied ginger, and simple syrup is ne plus ultra of the famed beverage. I fully understand that people don't frequent bars to imbibe unalcoholic beverages. So, take comfort in the fact that their traditional cocktails are no less impressive. I took equal pleasure in quaffing their refreshing and well balanced Amaro Grapefruit Smash $14, mixed with Finlandia grapefruit, amaro lucano, angostura bitters, mint, lime juice, and simple syrup Come for the view, stay for the cocktails. We stayed at the Banff Springs and after the spa got a quick bite to eat. On a Saturday night it was busy but we found a nice spot by the fireplace. No reservations needed. Other areas by windows were really cold to sit at. We ordered the Rundle Platter, which had a variety of dumplings, edamame and salt & pepper wings. It was very tasty but kinda pricey for what you get. Drinks were delicious, try the grapefruit smash and caesar. read more

I didn't have any expectations when entering the Rundle Lounge. My girlfriend and I were fortunate to score a seat right at the window with a wonderful view overlooking the mountains. We ordered a pizza (they had gluten free crust but it wasn't mentioned on the menu!), and a cheese and meat charcuterie (and they also had gluten free bread upon request), which were both quite tasty. Eating lunch or dinner at the Rundle Lounge seems to be a bit of a secret gem. You're in this amazing and beautiful hotel with a stellar view... and then the food is superb and reasonably priced. You can choose to sit at any manner of table, from couches to standard chairs. The service is quick and friendly and the food seems to come pretty quickly no matter how busy they are. I've been here twice, once for lunch and once for dinner and it was great both times. A fantastic place to go for a meal and feel like you're really treating yourself without breaking the bank. On this, I am sorry to say, the Rundle Lounge (aka Rundle Hall) was a TRUE disappointment. Of the 3 dishes we ordered, only 1 was even close to acceptable. So, when you read "Heirloom Tomato Caprese Salad"...what comes to mind? Hopefully, NOT a small "Early Girl" tomato bought from the Safeway down the road along with ONE cherry tomato sliced in FOUR (yep, each one sliced in four) and FOUR mini bocconcini...to top it off, with wilted (thus VERY bitter) arugula and some sliced basil. The 2 slices of bread that accompanied it tasted old....hard, old (you all know what "old, hard" ciabatta style bread tastes like....). So, this is the appetizer. I also ordered the Lobster Bisque....NO lobster and even worse, LUKEWARM :-P So, to say the least, I didn't enjoy my dinner. After a day of hiking and wanting to just sink into one of those chairs there, you look forward to a little hearty something....NOT at this sitting or this place :-( My companion had the Eggplant Parmiggiana sandwich which he said he liked....but then again, he was hungry and when he is hungry, sometimes even Rock Soup is good to him. Our drinks were very good, I ordered a Ceasar and he ordered the Raspberry Mojito. However, hardly worth the price point of 75$ when you consider that 2 of the dishes were so unbelievably disappointing (the Caprese was priced at 18$, the soup at about the same price).... We went there in the evening to try some of the cocktails. It is located on the Mezzanine Level (elevator M) and some of the tables have beautiful views. All drinks were very tasty, made with quality ingredients. Our favorites were White Pear Cosmo ($16) and Pomegranate Caiprissima ($16). Rootbeer Glazed Beef Tenderloin Bites ($17) were sweet and tasty, but Chicken BATA sandwich ($19) was the best we have tried in a long time. The bread was fresh and crispy, chicken tasted as if it was organic and bacon was also divine. I liked this sandwich so much that I ordered it the next day before leaving as "to go". Btw Rundle Hall is open daily from 11:00am to 1:00 am, so no need to wait till the evening in order to try this establishment. I noticed that the service was spotty overall, but we were lucky because we sat next to server's station so we did not have to wait for anything for too long, they were always near us, ready to bring new drinks. Our bill for 2 was $160 including tip. It was quite expensive but worth it! read more

The service was excellent, the menu was not exorbitantly priced. The views are what you pay for, and a chance to eat at the historic Fairmont Banff Springs. It's difficult to review this place. The service is inconsistent depending on who you end up with. On day 1 we had an excellent lunch. The waiter was very patient with our 1 year old. They offer healthy kids' meals (we ordered salmon with veggies for our son) and kids under 5 eat free. On day 2 we went for afternoon tea, we were made to wait a long time as others who came in after us got served before us. I had to chase down the waitress before we were helped. Nice place to hang out. Our waitress was so nice that she hunted for soy milk for my latte. We got the honey garlic chicken wings which were delicious. The triple chocolate mousse was pretty good - a little too sweet on top but the bottom dark chocolate layer was amazing. The view is great and the chairs are comfy. The view and decor are spectacular, but that's where the good ends. We sat down for drinks as we waited for our room. This seems to be the case for most people in this place. It took 20 minutes after the order to get a single glass of wine. Then we no longer saw our server for the next 30 minutes. We finally tracked her down to get the bill. She brought it right away, then disappeared for another 20 minutes until we walked around the restaurant searching for someone to pay. Would have had a few more drinks, but I didn't have a week to sit there, so we paid and left. I believed the bad experience is the fault of that one server, but you are who you hire. the second star is purely because of the beauty of the hotel. read more

Our server kirt checked up on us and also was nice to talk to and even helped recommend us on where to hike. The music at the time was also great and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. Our first night at the magnificent Fairmont Banff Springs and we ate at Rundle. Waiter DAVID - who was amazing, attentive, and fun - took very good care if us from the start. The food was terrific. We shared a lot : a huge Caesar salad (excellent), onion soup au gratin ( eat it every day if you can!), Steak sandwich (recommend no bread and just the aioli. So good! The beef tenderloin bits marinated in root beer - we questioned it at first and devoured them all. And ordered them another day before we left! They're tender and fabulous and not sweet (as we had suspected). The atmosphere in this grand hall is festive, and open and almost like a gathering space. The live music is a nice touch. I had really high expectations. It was good but not amazing. It was very warm in the room. Doors were open but it was still very warm. We did the champagne tea. The champagne and cheese course was very yummy. Sandwiches were enjoyable as well. Scones were terrible and desserts were below average. Their macarons and a chocolate graham cracker type of dessert was tasty. Service was good but nothing to write home about. Overall, it was okay. The maple maple tea was very good but they told us they are fazing out this line of tea and introducing another. The will not have a maple tea. Big miss in my opinion. I bought 4 boxes before we left. The view made the experience much a nice experience but I still expected a lot more for $85 and being at the Fairmont. read more

The Upper Rundle Lounge has Indian food. It is EXCELLENT-we ordered butter chicken, lamb saag and aloo gobi masala with naan and rice. Each dish was delicious. Great service and beautiful views too. Highly recommended. read more
