The food looks bigger in the photo than what is served. Falafel plate, $15.75, tax inc.
Robert S.

It was just ok. For what I paid, the portion was kind of smallish, and I didn't think it was anywhere near the quality you'd get from other places. I still hold Falafel & Grill (a few blocks away) and Middle East Grill (Andersonville) as the standards for great Middle Eastern food in Chicago, and Rumi doesn't come close in quality, ingredients, nor atmosphere. Where's the fun?? You order via a kiosk, and you don't have any interaction with the staff. $15.75 is waaay too expensive for a simple Falafel Plate. The falafel balls were good, but the barely-seasoned Basmati rice was borderline dry and lifeless. It was only after I ordered that I noticed they offer lunch specials.

Falafil & hummus

Love this place! Had to leave you guys a second review. It's hard to come across authenticity these days but no joke the consistency of this place is why I keep coming back. I usually order their kafta kabab plate or beef shawarma or kafta wrap. Falafil & hummus is a must. Kafta was juicy & that's usually my go to. Chicken kababs good but second place for me I'm a meat eater kinda guy. Parking could be better but I never had a problem. Milwaukee can be busy depending on the time of day but I usually park on Honore st which is the side street just passed their restaurant. It's usually free in the evenings.

Such a great spot for quick service and deliciously healthy food. This place is family owned-- support local! They deserve it! I loved the chicken shawarma, hummus, and the flavorful falafel. The portions here are generous, the food is healthy, and everything tastes fresh. I'm not usually a falafel fan but theirs was perfect texture wise and not dry. 10/10 meal. I appreciate that the owners have made the dining space feeling inviting and comfortable even if a quick service restaurant.

Beef Steak Shawarma Plate

So so so delicious! Lots of tasty gluten free options, and they were very knowledgeable! Items are labeled on the menu and they are super helpful. Cute place, great price! SOOO TASTY!

Chicken Shawarma Wrap

MUST TRY!!! The Chicken Shawarma Wrap is absolutely delicious and fully of flavor. Be sure to ask for their spicy sauce. You will feel full after the wrap but will not feel like you overate. The veggies and marinated chicken are a healthy combo. Their bottled ginger ale is a must!! Highly recommend this restaurant! Create customer service and nice seating area. I can't wait to go back again myself.

We ordered tonight because I don't know how to plan meals. I really wanted Mediterranean and somehow stumbled upon Rumi. Ordering was frustrating... when I went to the site I entered my address first thing to check whether they delivered here, and the site indicated they did. But when I tried to add a modification to one of the items we wanted to order it didn't have an option for that... so I called, only to find out that they didn't deliver here. So according to the dude who I spoke with, I couldn't order over the phone for delivery because I was outside the delivery zone but I could order online because GrubHub or whatnot would pick it up. Weird. The food was good. The portions were adequate and the meat was flavorful. I didn't have much of the accompanying vegetables but the pickles were pretty good. The garlic sauce hasn't replaced my favorite, but it was good nonetheless. I would eat here again if I was near the restaurant, but not sure about using the ordering system again. However, it did get here pretty quickly--about half hour after I got a text saying it was picked up--and that I definitely appreciated.

Food was great and service was even better. Very authentic beef shawarma, would highly recommend!

Rumi Loyalty Rewards menu: 25 pts per $1 spent

LONG STORY SHORT: Right in the middle of a happenin' block on Milwaukee Avenue of Wicker Park, Rumi solidifies themselves as the hip, fresh, cool mediterranean quick-serve restaurant with their assortment of middle eastern and greek dishes, including baklava and best of all, lunch specials! SHORT STORY LONG: As of recently, Rumi ME Grill went through a major remodeling that has refreshed their dining room experience with a very welcoming interior that screams boho-mediterranean. Amongst the beautiful dining room, Rumi has an expansive menu offerings with everything from small bites, lunches, dinners and platters. You'll see everything you'd expect to find and more! That said, I frequent them mainly for their $8 Lunch Specials which are packed with proteins, lentils, rice and your choice of sauce. Trust me, it's a good meal and totally worth the price! If that isn't already a steal, Rumi has a great Loyalty Rewards program that awards you 25 points for every $1 spent (subtotal). So that right there easily will earn you some 200+ points per purchase... and well, the awards are great too... you can earn a free Baklava for just 400 points!

The food was absolutely delicious and I particularly loved the Shami and Koubidehs. The koubidehs were so tender and juicy. I arrived 25 minutes later and they hadn't even made my order. From there, 3 different people told me it'll be another 5 minutes, 10 minutes, and 15 minutes. I ended up waiting 20 minutes and during that whole time there was no apology. One of the workers handed me a tea and later I saw they included dessert in the bag. It was a nice gesture but I was frustrated that it wasn't acknowledged by the staff at all and part of my order was still missing. I paid $2.25 for a Yogurt & Cucumber Sauce which I never received. The Caspian Mix Grill with Albaloo Polo was very good. The filet mignon & chicken breast were both juicy and well-seasoned. The Albaloo Polo is plain basmati rice mixed with saffron, caramelized onion and sauteed sweet & sour cherries. I liked the rice but it felt like they just threw the cherries on top rather than incorporate it into the rice. It was very filling, enough to share with 2 people, and good value. The Bamieh & Balava were also fresh, sweet, and a nice bite to end on. Ultimately, I would give the food a 4/5 and the service a 2/5, hence my 3/5 rating.

The staff is warm and welcoming, and we were seated quickly upon arriving. Love the ambiance! It is very cozy and inviting. We were served a complimentary appetizer: pita bread strips, pickled veggies, and what I believe to be an eggplant dip. We also ordered the Bawadi wing appetizer. It was delicious, and those wings! It came with a sauce, but I cannot comment on that because none of us tried it. The wings by themselves are delicious! My friends both ordered the lamb chops, and I ordered the Al Bawadi mixed grill with hummus and bread. Everything was good, and the portions are generous. The meat was tender, juicy, and seasoned well. We all enjoyed our meals. We plan on coming back in the Fall to celebrate another birthday. I remember seeing an Avec in River North, but my office was near West Loop so that made this location more convenient. I made a reservation for myself as I wasn't sure how busy the place got. Hospitality was great right off the bat. My reservation was for 5:30pm, but I arrived early and was offered a seat at the bar immediately. My hostess asked if I wanted to have my jacket held at coat check, which I was much obliged to maximize my space at the intimate bar. I got a Last Frontier, a gin-based cocktail that was sweet, slightly tart and refreshing. It was well crafted and hit the spot. I loved their Potato and Salted Cod Brandade. Talk about stick to your ribs! The brandade's warmth, thick texture, and rich flavor made the dip oh so comforting. Perfect for the blustery weather. I'll be back to try other popular items from the menu!

Nothing really went together and it was warm, which didn't make sense and made it worse. The steak was cooked how I asked, but the sauce was extremely oily and had this strange burnt flavor which likely was from the onions? The onions were extremely burnt, nothing like a typical caramelized delish onion. The chicken had the same issue, everything had that same burnt tasting oil and the chilies sitting in it just made it more intense. It was honestly just edible and nothing I would come back for or recommend. I love middle eastern food and know that even with a midwestern there are some considerations to take with the flavor profile but the burnt onions, burnt spicy oil in the chicken, and a warm salad are all indications for poor execution. As for the actual ambiance and experience it was my birthday and there was no acknowledgment at all not even someone to check in on whether the food was okay. I did not want to order a dessert after the salad, steak, and shawarma all missing the mark. The seating was very uncomfortable. It is cramped and communal and at this price point I expected a much better experience. Will admit I should have looked into the actual dining set up before booking a late night reservation but even still there are so many better places in Chicago where you can get better food and actually feel comfortable. Overall it just was not worth it. I would not return or recommend this spot.
