Karne N.

When you stay at the Sheraton Waikiki, you basically have no choice if you want to eat at the hotel. This is it as far as restaurants go and it is small. The views are great and on nice days the patio is a great place to sit and people watch. The food was very good for the most part, and the drinks were fun - especially the nonalcoholic ones for the younger set. Foodwise, our favorite was the fish tacos. Delicious grilled fish and lots of tasty pineapple salsa and wonderful pickled onions on top. The spicy ahi poke bowl was very good and the seasoned French Fries were a definite hit. The only disappointing meal was the chicken teriyaki - that was tough and heavy tasting. The staff were friendly and attentive. One annoying thing - well, two annoying things. One, a hostess who needs to learn that friendliness is not only appropriate but appreciated, and a happy hour where you cannot get any food until a certain time and you can't sit at the tables, only the bar. The frozen margarita was delicious with barely any alcohol from what I could tell - when I can have 2 drinks and not feel a thing, then I consider it a non-alcoholic drink. As a result, I totally enjoyed them.

Mai Tai flight
Peter H.

TL;DR - mai tai flight is DELICIOUS. The 24 oz prime rib is meant to be shared and it is very good. The kampachi is a fish dish I'd get again. Their fried chicken and quesadilla is perfect for kids. This place has amazing views of the ocean and the food is really good too. The initial part of our dining experience was actually fairly miserable. We were initially seated outside but it was so windy that our kids were inconsolable. Apparently their policy prevents them from letting you move to another table once they've seated you, but after a little persistence, our waitress was able to move us inside. We were so grateful because we otherwise had an amazing time at this restaurant. Their Mai Tai flight was VERY enjoyable. We ordered two of them lol. You get 3 drinks. Each one was wonderfully refreshing and I wished we had ordered 3 of them at their regular size instead of a flight. $38 per order. We also got the 24 oz prime rib which was a perfect medium rare. Cooked really well. Tender, juicy, savory, you name it! I'd get it again. This one is specifically meant to be shared. Their fried chicken was really good too. Perfect for picking at and for children. Their kampachi was delicious. It's a type of fish for those who have never had it. They make it so well here. It was flaky, soft, tender, and perfectly seasoned. I'd get this one again too. We also got their quesadilla because the kids tend to be a little particular with their food choices. Let's just say they were not picky at all when it came to this dish! Highly recommend this place!

Pipikaula fries
Shayna K.

This place is a great spot for happy hour. You can enjoy a refreshing beer while taking in the breathtaking view of Diamond Head, with its sandy beach and clear blue ocean water. We always order the Pipikaula fries and decided to try the chicken skewers. However, I would skip the chicken skewers; they were overpriced and lacked flavor even for happy hour. The fries, on the other hand, are a favorite for sure. The food is alright, but it's quite pricey. Despite the high prices, the service is excellent every single time.

Dynamite chicken karaage

Honestly not that impressed especially with how much we paid at the end. Food was way overpriced, yet average. Nothing blew us away and nothing worth the price. I mean I get you're in Hawaii, but I ate at better places for cheaper. Edamame was soaking in oil. SOAKING. The server seemed annoyed to be there. Maybe she was having a bad day but it showed. Kinda starts to walk away as you're still talking to her. Place itself is very pretty and right by the water so you definitely get the good views.

Ahi tataki and tacos

Tommy was such an amazing server, he gave us a lot of recommendations, was super knowledgeable on all the options, and we loved the food. Had a great outdoor table with a view of the ocean and could still hear the live music inside. Loved it :))

Poke Nachos, Smoked Ahi dip, Kailua Pork Quesadillas

Rumfire's happy hour in The Sheraton Waikīkī Beach Resort is an awesome spot to watch the sunset. My husband and I visited and ordered off the happy hour menu. We ordered the Kailua Pork Quesadillas, Poke Nachos and Smoked Ahi dip (regular menu). The quesadillas were amazing and rich in flavor. The Poke Nachos were fairly.... Mid? I felt like the poke didn't taste too fresh and the chips were extremely thick. (I've had better elsewhere.) The views are really where it's at! Beautiful seating to see the ocean waves, Diamond head, and even their fun pool!

Chicken Skewers
Joshua A.

The service is absolutely amazing and the scenery is chill with live music except when wind is blowing like crazy outside. When I was there the wind was so bad menus were everywhere and even chairs were being tipped over. Food is what could probably have a little more improvement. Felt like the chicken was too sweet and it was little chewy. It's a great place to get appetizers and get a drink during happy hour especially when you're staying at the resort.

Lychee martinis. Quesadillas

We were welcomed with leis upon arrival, which was such a nice touch -- especially since some in our group were experiencing Hawaii for the first time. It made the experience feel special right from the start. The happy hour was a little underwhelming, but that's to be expected when you're partly paying for the view -- and the view itself was absolutely beautiful. The wind was intense, but thankfully the strong cocktails helped distract from that. We mentioned that we were celebrating a birthday, and they surprised us with a complimentary birthday dessert, which was very thoughtful and much appreciated. Overall, it was a good experience with decent service, great views, and strong drinks. Definitely worth checking out for the atmosphere alone.

Nui Caliente "Spicy" Margarita while watching OKC vs. Denver
Krystle T.

My husband and I were fresh off a 10-hour flight and this was our first stop after checking into the hotel. The timing was great because it was aloha hour and the OKC vs. Denver game was on the tv at the bar. We ordered Nui Caliente "Spicy" Margaritas, Huli Huli Chicken Skewers, and Kalua Pork Quesadillas off the aloha hour menu and the Paniolo Cheeseburger off the dinner menu. The margaritas were perfect - finally found a spicy margarita that is actually a little spicy! Highly recommend ordering the skewers and quesadillas as well if you want something light. The dishes were savory and exactly what we were looking for. My husband ordered the Paniolo Cheeseburger. It was pretty straightforward but was made with a wagyu beef patty.

Inside

Great pitstop upon arrival to kickoff your vacation! The Pina Colada is high quality. Better yet is the Lava Flow which adds a splash of strawberry to that. Whatever you get, be sure to ask for a Rum floater to go with it. The Spicy Ahi Poke Dynamite was great and not spicy. The Garlic Parmesan Chicken Wings were large and tender. The French Fries initially came out cold but we had them remake them and they came out hot. They were nicely coated and came with a variety of nice dips. I love the Mango BBQ Aioli and also the Truffle Aioli. Those go great with the fries and with the wings. Nice poolside ambience with inside and outside seating options. They even have Cabana dining for parties of 5 or larger.

Mai Tai menu at RumFire at the Sheraton Waikiki Beach Resort in Waikiki, Honolulu, Hawaii.

RumFire is on fire, especially with a backdrop of traditional Hawaiian torches and fire pits galore that give off the energy of when fire meets water. Located on the ground floor of the bustling Sheraton Waikiki Beach Resort along the main thoroughfare of Kalākaua Avenue, Rumfire is the Oceanfront Restaurant and Lounge that serves as the main restaurant for the Sheraton Resort. There is actually a similarly themed and named restaurant on the island of Kauai at the Sheraton Resort there so I was familiar with the concept when I had visited that restaurant in the past, but what I wasn't familiar was the fact that Rumfire is one of a handful of restaurants that hosts an after-dinner Aloha Hour or Happy Hour as us on the mainland happen to call it. From 4:30 to 5:50 p.m. and again from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. diners can enjoy a selection from their beverage and dinner menu offered at a reduced price. Of course, with Rumfire being both a busy restaurant during their normal business hours, they have a constantly changing menu and when we arrived on a warm weeknight, the menu was already different from what many have posted in the past. After checking in with their host stand, we were told that the Aloha Hour menu applies to the entire restaurant but we would get faster service by sitting at the bar. We were lucky enough to find two available seats at their bar, with the interior of this location of RumFire a tad on the dated side, especially with the wall of spirits and liqueur going from floor to ceiling and basically cutting off the view of the restaurant in its entirety. Their Aloha Hour menu had two cocktails to choose from along with various house wines and local draft beers, in addition to four food items. In addition to regular cocktails, and other beverages, the regular dinner menu is separated into categories including For the Table, On the Light Side, Entrées, Sides, their Keiki menu for children 12 and under and their Dessert menu. With four options to choose from, we ordered their Kalua Pork Quesadillas, which consisted of Monterey Jack cheese, Chipotle lime creme, cilantro served in a grilled flour tortilla and served with Chef Darren's house-made chili pepper water; their Loaded Poke Nachos, which was fried white corn tortilla chips, topped with Hapa poke, guacamole, and spice poke sauce; and their Pipikaula Parmesan Dusted Truffle Fries which were served with Sriracha ketchup and truffle aioli. Neither of the two cocktails being offered for their Aloha Hour intrigued me or my dining mate, so we took a look at their regular cocktail menu and found two blended drinks that we each have enjoyed in the past, as I ordered their Passionfruit Daiquiri and my dining mate ordered their Lava Flow. Both blended cocktails would be prepared for us first, and although not on their Aloha Hour menu, these two drinks were fun festive drinks to sip and savor over the course of our stay at their bar. Then our food would come out next with the highlight being their Loaded Poke Nachos which featured more poke chunks than we were expecting and their Truffle Fries which combined a local-style of beef jerky and your traditional French Fries. There was so much food with these two dishes that we could have been satisfied with both entrées and had a happy meal, but with the Quesadillas added in, it only helped to provide a more satiating meal. Since my dining mate was able to take advantage of their Happy Hour draft beer prices with a pour of a locally produced beer our meal was complete. Our total bill was only about 46.07 dollars a person with the three dishes, two cocktails, and one local draft beer. An affordable meal offered when many other restaurants in the area do not cater to serving them at that particular hour set against a backdrop that is fiery and ever so romantic with its own Hawaiian charm, RumFire may stay on fire as long as possible!

Mai Tai
Lorean W.

If you're like me, and wanting to do a Mai Tai tour of Waikiki, you won't go wrong in stopping by RumFire for a libation. They were busy as hell due to a military convention in town, most of the restaurant being blocked off for that and a private party and yet still the staff were cool and collected and welcoming! We didn't wait long for anything--attention, a clean table, prompt drink delivery, these cats know how go keep it running smoothly. Didn't order any food but the menu looked great and prices seemed comparable to what you'll find right there by the water. All in all? A great first stop!

Are they still serving Happy Hour?

Just went today. Server said HH discontinued about 1-1.5 years ago.

Is the dancing mostly all young people? If a couple came in their late 40s to dance would it be weird?

We were there a few months ago. We are in our early 50s. The crowd was on the younger side. We did not feel uncomfortable at all.

Is this free entrance with valid non Hawaiian?

The entrance fee to the night club is $10 for everyone.

Is it open to non Marriot guest?

Yes anyone can go

Is Rumfire open? Since the strikes have been going on I know a few bars have closed.

Yep

Is there an 18+ night?

I'm pretty sure there is not. However, during regular business hour, probably until 9 or 10 it's more of a restaurant and lounge vibe and they only card if you order a drink, not for entrance. Hope that helps.

What kind of music do they play?

It really depends on the night. One night we walked by it was a clubby DJ with a cover charge. One night was a band. One night (my favorite) was Jeremy Cheng singing relaxing oldies and playing acoustic guitar!

To my surprise, on a Sunday evening after having dinner nearby at Maze, my wife and I walked over to Bar Leather Apron and we were able to get seated right away! If you're in the same boat as me and are unable to find a reservation for your upcoming visit, I would encourage you to stop by and try a walk-in. The first page of the menu lists a wide variety of whiskey based cocktails. Most -- if not all, of the cocktails are pre-fixed with BLA (Bar Leather Apron), and represent a collaboration with the named distillery. If you're fan of whiskey, you'll definitely have a difficult time picking only one. I ultimately ordered their "Take Warning" -- 2021 BLA Knob Creek BLA Single Barrel, Cynar, Carpano Antica, Mezcal, Bergamot Salt. Drinks here are not cheap -- averaging $20 to $25 per drink. Although my drink was very spirit forward, it still felt very well balanced. I appreciated the hint of smokiness from the mezcal that rounded out the end of a sip. Service here quick and friendly. When we received the check, a cute small chocolate snack was brought over as well, borrowed from the menu at Maze. Overall, I can see why Bar Leather Apron has earned so many accolades in its field. Definitely worth a stop by if you enjoy the art of mixology.
