I had the Country Ham special (excellent flavor) - and while the mashed potatoes were very smooth (I'm a lumpy mashed potato kinda guy myself), they were tasty and didn't taste like they were a mix. We came here super hungry after diving for lunch - it's right on the boardwalk next to the water so super convenient. Food here is probably more like 3.5, but the service is friendly and the boardwalk atmosphere push it up to a 4. It's definitely a good spot to try if you're in the area. Fried calamari: This was fried crispy and matched with a great salsa sauce. A bit oily but at least breading wasn't too thick. Grilled Mahi sandwich: I've had a lot of grilled Mahi on this trip, and sadly this was one of the mediocre ones. It wasn't terrible, but it was overcooked and dry. Fries were hot and crispy though! Four stars mainly because the food took so long. I arrived first with the kids, while the other grownups came around 45 minutes later. Hostess was gracious enough to seat us first, so we ordered immediately. Unfortunately, the drinks took around 15-20 minutes--and my oldest's smoothie had half melted so the cherry already dropped to the bottom before she got hers. We also had to wait 60 minutes for the "first round" of food (3 dishes off the kids' menu and two appetizers) to arrive. For the "second round" of orders, we had to wait at least 30 minutes. The others left first so I could take care of the bill, which took another 10 minutes. All in all spent about 2.5hrs-2.75hrs there, mostly because of the waiting. Kids' menu is nothing special, but decent value for the price. The kids loved the tortilla chips with artichoke spinach dip. The grownups ordered fish taco, pasta and steak. All nice. Husband said his shrimp and crab spaghetti was worth the wait. Server was nice. But again I just wish we didn't have to wait so long! I guess we have to get used to "island time"?? read more

Rum Runners is great for brunch, dinner or just drinks. They have the friendliest bartenders. The restaurant is on the water. It's a beautiful walk on the docks outside of the restaurant. They have an excellent Lobster Egg's Benedict for breakfast that is amazing. There's a whole lobster tail on the sandwich. Our company used to host employee appreciation parties at Rum Runners. We would have between 30 and 50 employees at the party. Rum Runners always made sure to keep restocking the food/appetizers, while also serving drinks quickly. The conch fritters are delicious. They make delicious frozen drinks. My favorite is the Painkiller. read more

This used to be my favorite place to eat downtown. Especially Kristins wrap. They then changed the menu. Got rid of some old favorites. Was told that you could still order it, even though not on menu. Tried numerous times but always met with a no. Went a couple of weeks ago, three people on the floor. Not sure what their positions were. We had a server that has been there forever. We were sat and she was timely with the drinks and taking the order. The conch fritters were nothing but filler, definitely frozen food and not homemade. That's too bad. We came from the keys and know what a good conch fritters tastes like. I got the crispy chicken wrap. Not as good as it used to be. So, now on to the service. She never once checked on us. When we called her over to get a couple of condiments she tried to run off before we finished speaking. She never pre bused our tables. Never asked if we need anything to go. Never checked to see if we needed drink refill. Only time she came over to us was when we called her over because we were being ignored. I've been a server, I know how you are supposed to check on tables. You serve the drinks/food. You check after a couple of minutes to see if everything is okay. Ask if they need something. You always check without going to the table if they need more to drink, you then go back in another 5-10 minutes to see how they are and drop off the check. You then cash out. It's not hard. Hire people that know how to wait on tables. She did a crappy job and we still left a tip. read more

Rum Runners is my go to spot for breakfast/brunch after a day of diving. This place is spot on for a hearty meal. Fortunate diners will love the Lobster Benedict (When available) and the daily specials are just glorious. I'm also prone to the sandwiches and I've never had a bad one here! The adult beverages work. The Planter's Punch is divine! So why only four stars? Service can be hit and miss. While the views are stellar, dining alfresco works great, there are a few servers who have attitude on occasion. We all have bad days but my last visit found my friend and I with someone who inappropriate on several levels. She remind us that she had been there (Wish I could remember her name) for many years...which I find worrisome considering her treatment of us, which included harsh looks, delayed service, and a whole lot of sass. Will I be back? Sure. Will I be mindful of who is serving me? You bet! read more

Nice views of the ocean from the boardwalk. This is one of the places we went that had great customer service. The waitress was very nice, accommodating and attentive. The food wasn't anything to write home about. I tried the fish tacos and it came in a crunchy shell. Very confused about that, but the tacos had pineapple in them which was very complimentary to the fish. I ended up just eating the insides with a fork rather than eating it like a taco. We also tried a crab cake for an appetizer and it literally came with just one crab cake. And it was $14. It was big enough where we could quarter it for a small bit size but beware if you're getting it for a group, it's just one cake. Again, average. The drinks were good and the key lime pie was good. I would say go eat some pizza down the way then come here for drinks and dessert. read more

Let's talk about Tara... Absolutely the rudest individual we have ever witnessed. Completely rude to the two older ladies in front of us. Then explicitly says right in front of us that she just wishes people would listen before we said a thing. Tara ruined the experience for everyone in our party and others, so we left. First off, I can start out by saying that they have one of the best views on the Island for outdoor dining! When we first arrived, there was a 30 min wait which was not bad because they don't offer call in reservations. Me and my party of two sat by the beautiful water watching the sunset. The 30 min wait was more like 15 mins when we were called to the table. The waitress was extremely nice and very informative of the menu. I wanted the lobster of course so we were invited to take a look at the live tank. We ended up ordering a massive 7lb lobster which was a show stopper! The lobster was cooked perfectly! Melted butter and a squeeze of lemon was all that was needed! The mussels were also amazing! It came in a sun dried tomato pesto sauce that was thick and delicious! The conch fritters were also good. We also order two desserts. The peanut butter pie which was okay. Sure sweet so I definitely preferred the key lime pie! The key lime pie was light and tangy with the perfect amount of sweetness. read more

Order: Shrimp Po Boy, Blackened Fish Tacos Price: $39 Positives: There's a really nice view Negatives: The food it just wasn't good. It was super oily, very expensive for what you got, and pretty bland. tldr: I wouldn't really recommend Rum Runners to anyone. There food was so oily we didn't finish it all, and there was really almost no flavor to try and help. They do have a good view, but it's Saint Croix, there's great views anywhere. Thoughts: Rum Runners had been high on the list of suggestions both from Yelp and from a few people we talked to. It also happened to be Christmas day so a lot of other places were closed and so we ended up here. We arrived early enough that it was a late lunch, because we assumed that things were going to very busy for Christmas dinner. We grabbed a seat and ordered the blackened fish tacos and shrimp Po boy. Service was pretty quick and we got our food within about 15 to 20 minutes. Unfortunately that's really where the good news about the food ends. The shrimp for the Po boy was so over-breaded I couldn't have guessed what it was supposed to be. It was more like deep fried breading than fried shrimp. To make it worse the breading was pretty dried out and didn't really have any flavor. The fish tacos were just as bad. They were unbelievably oily. Like, when I bit into one side of the taco, oil ran out the other side onto the plate. By the time I had finished eating my tacos there was practically a puddle of oil on the plate. And the fish didn't even have any flavor. I genuinely think the only thing that both the Poboy and tacos tasted of was oil. For $40 I definitely want more than A bland fried sandwich and two super greasy tacos. If there is any good news about Rum Runners it's the view; the view really is fantastic. You sit only a few feet above water level at the bay in Christiansted and the water comes almost right up to your feet. You definitely won't get wet, unless maybe it's a very blustery day, but it really is a great view and feels like you were eating practically on the water. But that's it; and to be honest, you're on Saint Croix, so there are great views everywhere. I'm really not sure how or why Rum Runners has such high reviews. I wouldn't give it a one star review, because we didn't walk out of the restaurant, but I would definitely never go back. In fact during a different day on our visit to the island, Rum Runners was one of the only places open when we needed to get food. Rather than go back to Rum Runners we instead opted to to get sandwich supplies from a grocery store. read more

Holy moly this place was AMAZING! When we first got there the host was super friendly! Our waiter Pete was awesome! Highly recommend this place. Great environment with water views. The beef and veggie soup was soo delicious I didn't expect it to be that good! The blackened salmon special with bok choy if you go there I highly recommend that! I finished the whole thing. The only place that has conch fritters and they were really good. I'm really surprised no one else had them. The fish tacos were amazing, I had them twice :) They have awesome cheap beers and they are right on the waterfront. This is is my second time here and an update to my 2011 review. We had fun at rum runners . Each of us except for my son ordered the conch appetizers. They were tasty with nice pieces of conch in the batter. My son had the crab cakes and enjoyed them. For dinner two of us had their tuna special which was encrusted with sesame and topped with pickled carrots and another veggie ( I forgot ). It was finished with an orange teriyaki sauce. Two had their shrimp crab bacon roasted tomato past. Both enjoyed it and it was loaded with garlic . I tasted it and it was a heavy meal. The drink are also tasty and you get a nice view of the water front . My only slightly negative comment is that I would have expected more seafood or fish dishes. They didn't have any fresh local lobster because they weren't running. Anyway - this is a great place to eat - a lot of Fun with good drinks good food and a good view read more

Wonderful food, wonderful service, and a wonderful view. Our appetizer was pineapple jerk chicken wings which were good but they could have used more jerk and less pineapple. I had one of their specials which was chicken and arugula pasta with jalapeño cream sauce and it was creamy and amazing. A friend of mine had the jerk pork tenderloin and he said it was the best he's ever had. Always get some jerk on the side...always. Happy hour is great with beers at $3.50, you can't beat that. We had our first breakfast of the trip after a long travel day the preceding day. This was the perfect place right on the dock. The views were amazing and the water came right up to a few feet from where our table was situated We enjoyed seeing the large tarpon as we dined practically under our feet. This restaurant is very Covid conscious and seating was very spread out with a good bit of sanitizer available. Our food was hot, freshly prepared and plentiful even if a bit pricey. We had an omelet, huevos rancheras, a monte cristo, and eggs benedict. This meal was well worth the money and the staff was friendly and on the ball! Best of all, that VIEW!!!!! read more

Four stars seems a little much, but they're deserving of more than three, so... Rum Runners isn't a bad place. They're located in a touristy little part of Christiansted. The restaurant is right on the water/dock, so it was a nice ambience and good for people watching. Our waitress was cheerful, despite the oppressive heat. The menu looked like it had options for everyone, but was fried/bar-food centric. Not a bad place to eat in Christiansted, but you're better off coming here for the drinks and to chill. read more
