This was a WOW dinner and I will absolutely go back. It's an easy walk from the Cane bay beach. Follow the signs, and then go down the narrow stairs to the restaurant (we almost missed them; see the photos.) We chose a sunset seating and the pictures are unreal. one of the most beautiful restaurant views because the water is right there- if you sit on the lower patio you might get sprayed a little! I asked for a creamy espresso martini and the bartender got it perfect- I ordered two! The other cocktails were good as well. The hot crab dip was amazing! I loved that the pumpkin pasts wasn't overwhelmingly pumpkin- it was just perfectly balanced. All of the vegetables and sauces on the Buddha's feast were delicious, but since it was just vegetables, I wish there had been more volume because event after sharing an app I was still hungry. We got the rum cake for desert, and we LOVE rum cake. However, if you had told me this was just chocolate cake, I would have believed it. It needed much more rum/syrup! The location could not have been better. It was stunning. As the evening progressed the waves got higher and more fearsome. But we were in a key protected area and just enjoyed the view. The food. MEH. I love carpaccio but this was underwhelming and didn't have enough acidity to balance the plate. I ordered the lobster pasta. Wow -what a disappointment. The lobster was over cooked and chewy. The sauce (bisque) was flavorless and needed salt and a bit of heavy cream badly. The pasta was way past al dente. Had to ask for bread- was told "had to see if they had enough for a side of bread." Ran out of risotto for a 730 pm reservation. Offered two specials but I had to ask the price. (Pet peeve--tell me the special price). And then the server wasn't sure and had to go ask. We visited this bistro around 8:30 p.m., before its closing, but the service was unwelcoming and very slow. It took 15 minutes to get water, the staff seemed disorganized despite only three tables, and we were repeatedly rushed to order because the kitchen was "closing." The food did not justify the high prices. A $60-$70 filet mignon was completely unseasoned and bland, with minimal sides. While the mussel appetizer tasted good, the broth was full of broken shells, making it unpleasant and unsafe to eat. Drink service was also poor: a second glass of wine was served in a small cup and spilled during a refill without any acknowledgment. Portions were inconsistent, and the overall experience felt careless. One dish, the grilled mahi mahi, was well seasoned and tasted good, but at $40 it felt overpriced for a common fish and came with overcooked, unappealing sides. One of the loveliest settings of any restaurant I've visited so far on the island. The wait staff seated our party of four on the second-level patio with a full view of the sapphire- and turquoise-colored ocean water below. As we enjoyed our brunch, we could hear the waves crashing on the shore. A light breeze wafted by,keeping us cool and comfortable. Now to the food: My spouse and I each ordered a bloody Maria and sparkling water which the server brought promptly. For our entrees, we both had everything bagels and lox that came with a triangle of cream cheese, sliced cherry tomatoes, pickled onions and capers. Absolutely delicious. Our companions ordered a ricotta frittata and biscuits and gravy. Both thoroughly enjoyed their entrees. Such an amazing place for dinner. Food was tremendous! View spectacular! Our server seemed a little like he was 'phoning it in.' He was nice enough and attentive until it was time for the check and we had to practically tackle him to get it. Then as I was paying he hovered over me until I made my tip amount selection. Other than that small thing I highly recommend Ama. Three things to note before going... there is only street parking, meaning you have to pull off the side of the road onto the rutted shoulder... a little precarious. There are two levels of restaurant seating, open air with a roof. I was glad we were on the upper portion because the lower level is right on the water with waves crashing and you will get wet (and then it started raining sideways, I felt bad for those sitting below). This restaurant was recommended by a fraternity brother who is familiar with the island. We were not disappointed. We were not able to get a table in the section closest to the water. Our table was still great because of the magnificent view of the water that we had. The view of the sunset is phenomenal. For dinner we had the surf and turf (grilled filet mignon with grilled prawns) and the seared salmon. The steak and shrimp were delicious and the salmon was perfectly made. The same was on coconut rice which was a good accompaniment. We finished the meal with the Amaretto Rum Cake which was outstanding. Our server EJ and bartender Sean were excellent. Sean was gracious enough to share the recipe for the drink special he created called the Storm Surge in honor of Hurricane Erin which had passed nearby a few days previously. Ranked as one of the top restaurants on the island for many reasons! We actually saw a YouTube video about visiting St. Croix and they went to Ama and stayed in one of their guest rooms there. It was a highlight that helped us decide to take our vacation there. Reservations are required and you want to make them well in advance! We booked for an after sunset seating and they did run out of food items on the menu, so earlier is better. If you're booking for a sunset time, be aware that they do not follow daylight savings time on St. Croix. Arrive early and enjoy a wonderful view and drink at the sunset bar before your dinner. The staff is very friendly and there is a nice variety of seating and ocean views. We arrived early for a drink and then were seating overlooking the ocean. It was magnificent. The waves were unusually strong that night. I was told it happens every few months and for that reason, be forewarned, if you request the lower oceanfront tables, there is a possibility of getting wet, but you can't beat the view. We started with their crab soufflé dip with toasted baguette and it was delicious. My husband ordered the Grilled Fillet and he said it was perfect. The mashed potatoes were silky and asparagus was a nice complement. I ordered off of the daily special menu, which was scallops over polenta and asparagus and some heavenly greens with an amazing sauce. Definitely the best scallop dish I've ever had!! The desserts were key west key lime pie and Chocolate Mousse. Both were good, but the meals stole the show. Pricing seemed appropriate, about $100/pp plus tip. We also made a reservation for their Sunday brunch, which I would recommend, but it is pricey for brunch.$65/pp plus tip. If you're choosing between the two, go for dinner. I've added the menu photo for that, but forgot to take photos of the dinner menu :( At brunch, my husband had the grilled fish sandwich, which he liked, but said wasn't over the top. I had the Lobster Benedict and it was well over the top! Perfect perfect perfect! Lots of perfectly cooked lobster, perfectly poached eggs and the most delicious harissa hollandaise sauce. Completely screwed us on my wife's birthday. Did not email, text, or call that special event closed the restaurant. Told us they called but nothing I in history or voicemail. They also sent a confirmation the day before to make sure we were coming. Apparently it was a last minute wedding. Reservations have a threat of $20 per person cancellation. Hostess and manager just looked at us and said we called--no offer to seat us tomorrow or anything to make it right. read more

How I rate an establishment isn't just off the food itself although that's a major factor but I aggregate all factors, Ambiance, staff members attentiveness and customer service, food presentation and taste and DID I MENTION AMBIANCE?! AMA is located on the North Shore of St Croix with a view that's unrivaled by many. I've been to 5 star establishments in London like Gordon Ramsey, places in Paris, NYC... When you go into these places they can be so stuffy and devoid of personality. Yes there's a time and place for those settings but those places wished they were feet from the ocean with no pollution or skyscrapers in sight blocking an incredible view. I've had the ceviche, crab dip, lobster Diavolo, and the pork chop (over two visits lol). Give them a try, call ahead or make rez's and you're welcome! read more

Outstanding location and ambiance and very good food. I've been to over 50 countries and this is the prettiest restaurant that I have ever been to. Set right up against the Caribbean Sea, with waves crashing over the rocks and splashing at your feet while you watch the sunset is a magical and unforgettable experience. Make e reservation for 5 pm when it opens. The food was very good and was the wine and cocktail selection. There is a separate bar above the restaurant too. If I am back in St. Croix, I will definitely go back. We tried the Tuna ceviche which was excellent with unique flavors. The lobster pasta was very light and tasty. Wow. Incredible. You must try AMA at Cane Bay on your next visit it Saint Croix. EJ was our server and we could not of had a better experience! We started off with the delicious crab dip. It was hot, creamy, and very flavorful. We shared the Lobster Pasta and the fresh caught Yellow-finned Tuna. Absolutely incredible flavor and presentation. Finished off with the Mango White Chocolate Cheesecake. The restaurant was busy but not too loud. We got seated at a private table next to the water. So so disappointed. We really enjoyed meeting Ben on our first evening at Sunset bar and there was no room for dinner. So we made plans to return on Saturday night and again enjoyed meeting Shane at the Sunset bar for our pre-dinner cocktail. Our 5 o'clock dinner reservation resulted in cold - and I do mean cold- service of our meals at 6:40. We had asked our Server around 6:15 when we might expect our food. He was rude, condescending, and told us we have to be patient because it's a small kitchen. Well, here's a tip, maybe you don't oversell your tables if your kitchen can't keep up? My beautiful mahi, mahi and my husband's beautiful steak, arrived sushi cold. Of course by then we were done, but the server still asked us if we wanted any dessert? Ball Z but nope. Sure it could've been one night that they were off, but it was my one big night out. So there's that. Sad read more

We always make a point to stop in for dinner at least once (maybe more) when on island. It's our "Romantic Dinner" spot! If you can get there for sunset. It's so beautiful. The food is always on point offering both seafood and land fare (my husband is meat and potato's) and we both always enjoy. Drinks are hand crafted and beautiful and their wine list well curated. Service has always been impeccable. It is a bit of a hike by islands standards out near Cane Bay so be prepared. But well worth the drive. read more

Traveled to St. Croix for our 30th anniversary.. Reservation made before we left .. Hostess wished us Happy Anniversary when we arrived .. Our waiter did not mention it even once .. Drinks.. I asked for a Pina Colada and my husband chocolate mudslide or Martini waiter said they don't have a blender, like really a restaurant with a bar has no blender so it did not start off well !! Appetizer ... crab dip was good but not enough toast and some were burnt .. Main Course .. I had the lobster but did not like the sauce it was sour and needed a bit more salt to add some taste.. Husband had the Tuna which he liked .. Waiter never asked how we liked meal .. Also their attire reminded me of UPS driver , and not a high end restaurant.. they should be in white linen shirts and khaki shorts would be much better and not so hot wearing black .. Wanted the pina colada cake did not have but wanted a desert being our anniversary but it was not a type of treat for celebrating .. It was pricey $165 for what we had .. During my stay in St. Croix I had the pleasure of visiting AMA at Cane Bay twice, once for drinks at the bar and once for dinner. The bartender Shawn was amazing and had wonderful service the first night I stopped by for a drink. He was even able to help me get my reservations for the next day changed so I could catch the sunset. Now, on the day of my dinner reservations I was left just a bit disappointed in the service department as I sat for about 20 minutes before I was acknowledged by my server. They did have a large party but being that I was at dinner alone and seated right by the water, it wasn't bad. My server explained all the specials and took my order promptly. The food did take a bit to come out but it was amazing once it did come out. The lobster tail was very large and the steak was cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes were also very well seasoned and the asparagus cooked perfectly. I had the mango cheesecake for dessert which was amazingggg! My drinks were also amazing! read more

Ama at Cane Bay was one of the highlights of my vacation! The ocean front dining, the food, the atmosphere and the service were incredible. My guests and I made reservations and were seated upon arrival. We had seafood dip for appetizers. Our entrees included fettuccine, salmon dish, and filet mignon. The steak and salmon stole the show. Excellent meal at Ama! The Belly Burger was delicious. The portion was generous and the pork belly was the perfect topping. We also had the wahoo special which had a raspberry glaze on it. Disappointing, this has been a great restaurant in past visits, but not so much this time. Our appetizers were great, but it took forever ( and I understand island time) for the entrees and when they did arrive, the fish was over- cooked and cold, as if it had been sitting around waiting to be served..the other dish was ok. When we asked the waiter about it, he sent the maitre 'd over and she offered to " warm it up" but we said it was already overcooked and dry. They said " that's how we cook it" and didn't offer to replace it. They offered to substitute a different dish, but we had to wait a REALLY long time for it and everyone was finished eating by then. The waiter acted like we shouldn't have complained about the fish and pretty much ignored us for about an hour. I would have expected better treatment at such a nice place. read more

This is the premier dinner location on the island. Waterside seating on the 'grotto' level is best sunset -dinner- experience on the island. Food menu is solid: great execution of fine options. You won't be disappointed by anything. The main bar is small but nice, bartender had a few interesting drinks to recommend and there's a separate bar on the upper level if you arrive early. Dinner at AMA was wonderful. I had a Caesar Salad which was very tasty with a smoked Caesar dressing. My husband had a melon and prosciutto salad that was amazing. Tuna special was cooked perfectly rare with a ginger soy sauce with polenta cake and asparagus. My husband had the grilled snapper which he said was excellent. We went for the bread pudding, and that's the only thing we'd return for. The atmosphere is incredible- waves literally crashing next to you...so relaxing. It was windy and we did not have a problem with bugs. Sadly, all of our food arrived cold. The Brussels sprouts came in a piping hot cast iron skillet and somehow were still cold. They were also pretty bitter unless you got one doused in the miso sauce. The mahi in coconut sauce was very bland and missing a vegetable and perhaps some hot sauce (or any sauce...) The filet was cooked well, and tender, and the veal reduction was very tasty, however we wouldn't pay $50 for it again. The bread pudding was very good, but we also wished the bread part was hotter. It's not TOO rum forward, and has chocolate swirls throughout. Our server was very friendly and we did not feel rushed at all. Oh, the French 75 was good but needed more bubbles in it, and the Firing Squad was "good" per the hubby. Worth it overall for the vibes, but maybe just go for drinks/dessert? read more

Ama Cane Bay is a romantic and appealing restaurant set high above overlooking the Caribbean Sea! The ambiance is a dimly lit with soft island music playing in the background. Options for seating is lower level view of the ocean with unobstructed views or covered patio dining. Tables are limited so reservations are highly recommended. It may be the most desired upscale restaurant on the island and we came here to celebrate a birthday. The dining experience was amazing and the staff was attentive, courteous and friendly. All of our dishes was exquisite including the desserts. They have excellent drink specials including the Old Cuban and Vodka Punch. Great place to celebrate an event or splurge with great friends. OMGOODNESS....AMA I want youuuu. Sooooo during my last stay in St. Croix I was romanced by a handsome friend that thought my last night should end with upscale and class. The food was beyond AMAZING. The chef outdid himself. We had reservations however we sat by the bar as all the tables were reserved. I wish we had a table because the barstools made my legs feel weak when we got up. It could've been the man I was with that my legs tremble LOL....The bartender was extremely NICE. My glass of wine complimented my meal and ambience. Wow wow what an amazing view to go along with the amazingly delish food. The cocktails were also fantastic, and even though we ate at the bar (we didn't book in time) the ambiance was still amazing and we could turn around at any point and see the view. But just know that if you're sitting at the bar, you are facing generally away from the ocean. But you can always go up and see the ocean otherwise. If you're just trying to go for the view and some drinks - the bar here is separate than the one right above it. I think it's Sunset bar? You don't need a reservation for that one. The only thing with the oceanside view is I would make sure it's not going to rain lol. read more

So far, the best on St Croix's north/west side. From start to finish our first dining experience was simply awesome. Because of the drive distance and potential traffic we left the house early AND arrived early. Rather than just be seated at our table we went to the outside Bar for mojitos (with fresh mint); the drinks were delish! The conversation by the outside Bartender and most certainly the sunset were both a delight. At the appointed time for our actual reservation we were greeted by the Hostess who made us feel special,"I really think you'll like the table we have for you tonight," and she wasn't wrong. Our Server, Tony, conducted himself with the utmost professionalism, complete with a "boyish" smile and always made sure nothing was out of place including topping off our water glasses whenever needed. At no time during the night did we feel rushed. The food was prepared to perfection; ceviche (app) with Seared Salmon and Filet as the main courses. The restaurant's Inside Bartender delivered our drinks to the table and encouraged us to try them before she left. Grotto seating? We sat next to the ocean; any closer and you would be in the water.
