I would definitely not recommend this company for moving!! They overcharged on their quote at the end. It took two days to move a single story Home which most of the stuff was already boxed and ready to go ! because they had employee issues with the two movers that quit according to the The owner. Why should that be my problem? Very convenient you don't remember the bad moves but you remember the good ones and yes two of your guys walked out that was according to you to justify two new very young guys coming in the next day to finish the job and they had no clue of what they were doing! read more

Not sure I would recommend this company. Firstly, when I got my original in-house quote, it took over a week to receive it. The estimator was very nice, but he kept saying he would send the quote and then wouldn't. His computer had crashed or something, but he should have kept me in the loop instead of giving false expectations. I had to call and email several times to figure out why I hadn't received the quote as expected, and it still took days longer than the new days they told me. So ok that's understandable, and they were very accommodating to our budget we wanted to stay in and only loading certain things in a certain amount of time. They even quoted us a shuttle because our new house has a steep and narrow "not a through" street and couldn't fit a large truck. Fast forward to moving day....the semi truck drives down our street, no shuttle. I flipped. I was so stressed out not knowing how they were going to turn around to leave. Luckily the driver was very experienced and was able to back up into the bottom of our steep driveway. Unfortunately that meant hauling every little thing up a 10 car inclined driveway manually... And then up a flight of stairs, because our front door is at the second level. So they didn't charge us for the shuttle but ended up just charging for extra time instead. And the driver was very nice about saying he wouldn't charge for any extra time over our original dollar amount. We helped move our little stuff into the house to keep time down. It all worked out. But then after they left we're looking around and realizing almost every single piece of furniture we own is damaged in some way; our leather chair was ripped on the side, our microfiber couch had red residue smashed into the frame, our white wood bed was chipped, several dark wood pieces had white paint rubbed onto them, our desk had the top moulding ripped off...etc. In order to file a claim we would have had to get repair estimates for everything. Since none of our furniture is that precious to us, and the damage wasn't that obvious nor made the pieces unusable, we opted to let it all slide. But here on yelp these reviews exist to make you aware of what to expect. Hope this helps! read more

Such a great experience from this company. Moving over 15x in the last 20 years I've used a lot of companies but have never had the level of service and professionalism like I have from this company. Joe &a Jeremy were on time, polite, courteous, and extremely caring with all of our household items. Everything was packaged up and delivered unharmed and unscathed. The owner John Ruff even went out of his way to stop by and say hello and ensure progress was being made. Thank you for moving us and we'll definitely be referring you to all friends and families we know. read more

Very happy with the way these movers handled my belongings. They were careful and quick. They listened to my preferences and I would use them again. read more

Unfortunately I CAN NOT recommend this company! We decided to go with a local small business to promote. The day our move was scheduled for 9am. After several calls to Paul the moving van showed up at 3pm, causing our move to Washington to be delayed. Once they finally arrived in Washington at 4pm Thursday and it was dark and raining (which they said would be Friday mid morning) there were only 2 young men, not the 3-4 man crew we were told. It took FOREVER, and the job was not finished. It seemed these poor young men ran out of time, because they needed to get back to California to the next job. They clearly didn't have enough help to unload an ENTIRE HOUSE! I had stayed and marked and walked thru regarding all furniture and boxes for storage or house, but items are now in the wrong places and/or not put back together. We have tried to contact Ruff & Ready thru email, and phone calls. Paul responded he was having oral surgery at first, and he'd contact and work things out. The next phone call my husband made, and he said he'd respond back and he didn't. It's been almost 1 month since our move, and we still haven't had a return call to make things the right way. To top it off, they charged us $800 extra when the moving van arrived, before they would finish unloading! read more

Great team of guys that came ready to work. Didn't waste any time and took care of all of our stuff.

Great job done by Austin, Kevin and Rick. Guys worked tirelessly for 14 hours and were a joy to be with the entire time.

This is a good and bad review - I thought the office staff was great and took care of any problem I may have had - The movers both on pick up and delivery were all nice guys and worked very hard but the problem I had was they had put a scratch bout 15" long in my dinning room table and after filing a claim the gave me 60.00 to cover the damage - there policy is they will pay 60 cents per pound for any damage and the 60.00 they sent would not come close to covering the cost of repair. I once had a beautiful dinning room table but it is now worthless and Ruff and Ready is not willing to fix their damage. - I have a friend moving next month and told them to look around for another moving company. read more

We just hired Ruff and Ready to move my mother from AZ to CA at the beginning of February. They were an honest, straightforward team that did an excellent job accommodating our needs, as well as being very flexible with specific items in the move. I would highly reccomend this moving company for a thorough and very smooth move experience! read more

Ruff and Ready Moving presented themselves to be the most professional movers during our preliminary research, so that's why we hired them. On the morning of the move, there was a glitch which delayed one of the two trucks arriving for the first hour. R&R favorably compensated by sending out an extra (smaller) truck and two more movers to help get the job completed on time. All the workers were polite and ambitious (no slackers). They worked quickly and efficiently in our (difficult to access) two story home on a very warm day, yet still took the time to safely wrap and transport our belongings. And to top it off, they actually completed the move to the new house ahead of schedule. We would recommend Rough and Ready Moving to anyone who has a concern about hiring a full service company. There was always someone in their office (not out in the field) to answer the phone and our questions. They can even offer storage in case the escrow on your new home does not close on time (which was almost our experience). GPN & CNN read more

I read reviews and used this local mover as I want to support businesses in my area. I had a complicated, three part move over four months and have now discovered as I unpack everything in my new home that valuable items are either broken or missing. After letting the moving company know of my specific issues, I was told that nothing would be handled by them. They would make no effort to pay for repairs on any broken items and had no liability or concern for my satisfaction. I had been told verbally if something came up, they would make it right. However, in reality, they quote the insurance line, .60 cents per pound of anything that is damaged, if you have your original sales receipts. So far, as I unpack, I am missing an antique oval mahogany mirror, (it was supposed to be packed with the large pictures) that was purchased over 20 years ago. My solid oak dining room table had a piece broken from the leg that was tossed away. That item was purchased in the 1980's. My antique typesetter drawer that was displayed like art work, missing. A Howard Miller wall clock with pendulum was broken. Bottom line, if you value your things, don't have them packed or moved by Ruff and Ready. I regret bitterly the experience. Sandra J. read more

Last Saturday I moved and used some movers who were falling behind as the day went on. They only brought 2 people to the job instead of the 3 that were agreed upon. And then they told me they were going to leave at 6 pm whether they were done or not. So at about 3 pm I called Samantha from Ruff and Ready, who went to work and found me 2 of her employees, Chris and Austin, who showed up after working another job all day. She told me that they work fast, and she was not kidding. They are excellent workers -- professional and hard working! They arrived at about 4:30 and got the job done by about 7:15 pm. I would have been stuck doing the rest myself if not for them. I am so grateful to Samantha and these two guys. They truly saved me at the last minute! I highly recommend Ruff and Ready and will use them the next time I move!! Highest rating!! read more

These guys were awesome!! Austin, Logan, Keith and Dustin moved my 4 bedroom house like a well oiled machine. They really have this down to an art form. Everything went so smoothly. I could not have been happier. I hope I never have to move again but if I did I would make Ruff & Ready my first call. Can't say enough good about my experience. You won't be disappointed if you use them! read more

Just used ruff and ready for a pretty large move. Called the company last minute the night before the scheduled moved and they were still able to accommodate. A semi truck was sent out with a crew that consisted of Harry, nick, David and hector. These guys busted ass for 12 hours and the best part is they did it with a great attitude. All of the guys were professional and friendly. Very careful with all furniture and pleasant to be around. Hardworking group of guys. Would definitely recommend this company and this crew of guys. read more

This mover was my worst move ever. One of their employees quit in the middle of my move. The other two fought with another moving company that was at my complex moving someone else. They charged me twice as much as I thought I was paying, because it was six hours longer to move than anticipated. I didn't finish with them until 2am. We started at 11am. At the end of the move, one of the workers started talking about staying to party...omg...it was awful. I would never use this company again. read more

I used this moving company to relocate my mom into an assisted living facility. I booked them on short notice, and it was Christmas week. My mom had a one bedroom apartment that was being moved a mile away. I had packed most of her belongings myself so there was little to pack. The movers arrived late and said that they were lost in the apartment building. I instructed what was to be moved and verified their understanding. I then took my mom to her new home and waited for their arrival. They took a very, very long time to pack the amount of furniture my mom had. I had to call them twice to find out what was happening. They finally arrived to place furniture. They told me that it was difficult moving from her previous apartment due to stairs and elevator. But, I reminded them that they said they had plenty of experience moving from the same apartment building and they could have communicated the issue. I have more to say, but nevertheless, it took almost 8 hours, with three men, to move my mom's one bedroom apartment. Would not use again. read more

I understand that many small companies cannot afford a receptionist and use voice mails and callbacks. I called 5 movers for comparisons 1 called me back 3 weeks later but Ruff and Ready has a receptionist, actually 2 and we got an appointment for an estimate on the first call. The day of the move the team was on time, prepared and ready to go. They guys even stopped me from carrying a few things saying hey relax you paid for this! They were a great team and there is a reason they have such high ratings. Although I truly hope I'm done moving I would call here again in a heartbeat and recommend R&R to you. No drama, no problems and a fair price. Great company! read more

Can I do less than 1 star? Estimator came, and gave me a price. Great, it was less than others I had gotten. Day of the move came, the guys were nice. But walked on the asphalt and all over my carpet that was less than a year old! I didn't notice at the time as I was too concerned over watching them work. At the end of the move I found out the estimated price was for only the pickup! Now, the drop off would be an additional amount of money! I called the company and complained, but they had my belongings hostage and because my new place wasn't ready we had prearranged for their storage. I sent pictures of my filthy carpet and the owner accused me of lying saying I had old carpet. Not true! Said he would send me a check for $40 for carpet cleaning. Didn't happen! When the time came to move my stuff in the guys did a good job and I insisted they cover the carpet in my new home. Several boxes marked in big letters as fragile were smashed, a big scratch on an end table, and a gouge out of my headboard. I contacted the owner and he said to send pictures after everything was unpacked and I assessed all the damage. Nothing resolved! My advice is get an accurate estimate so no surprises at the end, and cover your carpet! read more

Fantastic Job by our movers. When the gentleman came out to look over my home and give me a quote he recommended 1 truck and 3 men. I insisted on at least 4 men and 2 trucks in which they agreed to. The only sad thing is they went over their quote by $1,200 which I was not expecting. Other than that the crew of Stephen, Adrian, Luis and Todd did a fabulous job. They were kind, polite, careful with my things, very efficient and worked HARD for 14 hours. I swear they only took 2 small breaks. My only suggestion is that they more accurately bid their jobs. I would use them again. HARD working MEN! read more

I really wanted to have a good review for this company but unfortunately I was very disappointed with the service. The day of move they were scheduled to be at house between 8-9 a.m. and never showed. When I originally booked movers, I received a confirmation email with all the details. I called and talked to customer service who answered call and after waiting on hold for a long time she finally came back and said there was an error and that they were changing systems and that my order was not updated so they had no movers for us. She said she would call back once she can get some movers to come out. Witin 2 hours movers did show up but it still set my day back as I needed the moving to be done by 2 p.m. Owner did give 5% discount off bill for the inconvenience. We had 3 movers for 4 hours. They started at 11 and at 2:20 they tried telling my husband that it had already been 4 hours, which was not true. I don't know if the miscommunication was made when the 3 movers that first came, switched out with a couple of different movers half way through. I was not aware that they would be switching out movers and was not prepared to tip a total of 5 movers when I was told there would only be 3. After letting them know that the 4 hours was not up until 3, they did continue to work. I feel that it was unprofessional on their end. If my husband didn't call me to tell me the time was up, they would of left when we still had stuff that needed moved. Lastly, the movers damaged our refrigerator on the bottom. I don't know how it was done because I was not there but the freezer has a big ding on the bottom. We are still waiting to hear from their claims department. If you chose to use this company, I would beware...just call to confirm everything the day prior EVEN if you have an email confirmation. Also inspect every piece of furniture that they moved BEFORE they leave. read more

We contacted Ruff and Ready for a single item move, a sofa bed from one room to another. At my age (senior) I was not capable of moving this piece of furniture. When we originally purchased this sofa bed, the store delivery personnel took almost 45 minutes to get the it into the room. The two men from Ruff and Ready had obviously moved this type of heavy furniture before. They had the sofa bed out of the first room and into the second within 10 minutes. If all of their employees are this efficient they are great. To be honest I was a little worried because of some of the previous reviews but we are certainly not disappointed with the service and my back certainly thanks them. I would certainly use this company again. read more

Don't make the mistake that I made! I did not buy extra insurance to cover damage. On three previous moves with national moving companies, I had no damage, so I had a false sense of security. Recently, I had this company do a local move where substantial damage was done to an upright piano. The mover explained that he left the piano on a 4-wheeler cart strapped to the inside wall of the truck. Somehow, it must have come loose, resulting in breaking the front two legs of the piano and causing severe dents and dings on the front surface. I was paid the standard rate of 60 cents per pound which covers only a very small fraction of the repair cost. I asked the company to give me the courtesy of returning the $150 surcharge for piano moving, since the mistake seemed to be an obvious failure to properly secure the piano. They denied my request. It was ironic that I had to pay the piano-surcharge premium for them to do a substandard job. I assumed that the extra charge was for the extra care required to move a piano. read more

They helped us move and they did a fantastic job. We couldn't be happier. They had a positive attitude and cared that our stuff was taken care of. They had to go up 3 flights of stairs. Recently hired them for a local move. The office answered right away and quoted me a price that was cheaper then student movers. They do have a minimum of 3 hours and turns out we went a little over that which wasn't a problem for the movers. They helped us move from our 3 story Apt to our new place with out any complaints. They also wrapped up our furniture to keep it from getting dinged up from the move. Would use them again. read more

Everything about this company was professional! I got left high and dry from another moving company on the morning of my move out of my house. I called Ruff and Ready and was greeted by Heather who said she would do her best to see if someone could come on short notice. An hour later, she had 2 guys who were able to come do my move that day. Keith and Todd showed up and took extra care in protecting my home, surveying the project and then getting right to work. These two guys worked incredibly hard and efficiently. They packed my trailer like an in-life Tetris game and there was seriously no room to spare ... every inch of that trailer was utilized from floor to ceiling. Heather called several hours in and offered a third helper to come for the last bit of the move so that it could get done quicker. The additional help was much appreciated. I don't know how they fit everything in that trailer ... it was honestly a miracle they got it all in and packed so well. If I could hire these same guys on the other end of my out of state move, I totally would! read more

I was quoted 4 to 5 hours to load a 4,000 sq. ft. house and about 1.5 hours to unload. The crew that started my move did not finish.
