AMAZING! Prior to our arrival we got on the waitlist through yelp. That was the best decision ever because when we arrived the line was out of the door. We were able to walk right up and our wait was less than 5 minutes. We were seated outside which I would have preferred to be inside due to weather but it was slammed busy so I accepted the outside seating. The server came and she was extremely nice . After we ordered our food took a while to come out but she updated us server all times. The food was sooo good! I don't think I took a breath , that's how fast I was eating! Check out was super easy as well. They have a handheld device that she used to swipe our card and we were good to go! read more

The place was packed. Drop off your extra person to get a table while you're looking for a parking spot as it takes a minute to find one during the busy hours. We went around 10:30 and got lucky and ate at the bar since they had two seats open when we walked in. The food was great and the staff was very attentive. I highly recommend this place as a brunch spot. Prices were very reasonable. read more

I had the praline pecan bacon pancake and the creme brûlée pancake. The pancake does not have any flavor.... taste like flour egg water baking power and soda with a pinch of salt. The creme brûlée topping was sugar that was not torched completely (see photo) it was not rich in flavor. The praline pecan was not flavorful and I love me some praline..... I was not satisfied.... I was rather disappointed read more

The best black coffee and cream you can get in Homewood. Biscuits and gravy and any bennie are next level delicious!

I put my name on waiting list at 9:43 this morning, as this restaurant does not take reservations? I arrived at 11:00, checked in with the very rude hostess letting her know I was their. She asked me if my entire party was their and I showed her a text saying they were on their way. I asked her how long a wait it would be and she said we would be seated upon there arrival. They arrived at 11:10, now, she rudely says I have only been waiting 90 minutes, that it would be another 30 minutes. Spoke to the manager Andrew, and he could have cared less. Horrible hostess and management! My daughter in law is 7 months pregnant and my grandson is 12 months old. While standing by the door we saw at-least 50 people seated before us. In addition, the two times I have eaten at the Homewood location, my omelet was greasy, had no consistency and the coffee was awful! What a complete waste of time! read more

Ruby Sunshine Homewood - The peacemaker with eggs blackstone and chicken st Charles. - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Birmingham, Alabama

We arrived early (9:30) on Sunday morning and had no wait time which was great. the staff and service was wonderful but the majority of our table found the food disappointing. We've all dined at the Ruby Slipper in New Orleans and we found that the Birmingham location just doesn't compare. the biscuits were very large which would have been great but they were very dry, almost as if they had been prepared the day before and reheated. The eggs on the egg Benedict were well done rather then runny and the hollandaise could have used more citrus in it. The hot smoked salmon omelet was just disappointing overall in flavor but it was a good portion size. Overall we had a nice experience and enjoyed the atmosphere but the food left something to be desired. read more

I'm sad to change my review but the next time we arrived a few things happened. They were slammed so our name went on the waitlist (we asked to be seated outside since there was shorter wait.. 20min). Well after an hour and 15 min waiting, I finally check on our wait and they forgot about us. Luckily they sat us down immediately after that. We were pretty excited about the food and were starving. We order our food and turn around was good, except a few things. I ordered an over hard egg on my corque madam.. it came out with an over easy egg. They quickly fixed it no problem. Now my husbands meal is what got us, he order peace meal (2 different eggs Benedict) he had the shrimp one, that was ice cold and the egg was over cooked. My husband was starving so he ate it. The other one he got was their fried chick egg Benedict... that was ice cold and egg was over cooked. He pulled the waiter over and just let her know about our meal (more worried about other guests). The manager came out and was kind enough to bring him out a new properly cooked egg + competed his meal. But we're giving it a two stars because our server was great and made up for their under staffing for Sunday brunch, but the food was so disappointing for what we got. (Please note other portions (migas and shrimp omelette.. both were small and so underwhelming). To be honest, they did better last time and this was just bad (sadly from the start). read more

Wow this is a popular place! We were able to get on the list before we arrived and that worked well. I had the seasonal moc tail and it was delish and refreshing. Don't go on the weekends if you're hungry. There's a wait to be seated, but that's usually to be expected at a new brunch spot. What is NOT typical is the extraordinary wait for your food. We ordered their standard bacon, egg and grits meal and waited 45 minutes for it. As we looked around the restaurant we saw that most people were waiting on food. From our view at the bar, it was clear that the issue was in the kitchen. Servers were literally standing at what would have been an expeditor window waiting on their tables' food. It looked and sounded like chaos in the kitchen. After about 45 minutes our order and the orders of people around us slowly started trickling out from the back. The food was just okay. It was such a simple meal that waiting 45 minutes for it definitely affected my enjoyment of it. Service was great. The bartender did her part to do whatever she could to make sure we were comfortable while we starv- waited. Some of the other items on the menu looked great so I will probably go back on a weekday (when it's less chaotic) and try those. read more

Flavorful food! I had the shrimp & grits with the biscuit and enjoyed every bite. Taking off a star for having to wait standing without a proper waiting area for about half an hour, but it was a Sunday. If you go on a Sunday expect a wait (I recommend using the line skip on Yelp to get ahead). read more

We visited this place last Sunday and wow, was it a good decision! The patio seating is so nice. Try to get on the Yelp waitlist ahead of time. We had to wait about an hour, but getting on the waitlist gives you time to do something else instead of sitting in the restaurant waiting. Our food was delicious and our waitress was super friendly. The biscuits are HUGE, made from scratch, and delicious! Their house butter is amazing too. I got French toast that was great, and my fiancé had an omelette that was also wonderful. The portions are big! We always stick to the same places but are so glad we tried this place out for a change. We will be back. read more

Food was off the charts. I had biscuits and gravy with a fried green tomato. YUM!!!! Great service and such a cute place.

I had the eggs Benedict with shrimp and thoroughly enjoyed it. However, the star of this show was our server, Jenae (apologies if I misspelled). She was a breath of fresh air. I asked her if she was always so cheerful and she replied "Yes, I try to be. I just think there's too much bad in the world, so I try to bring a little happiness." Thank you, Jenae! 2 stars because of the friendly staff. Very long wait & the food is horrible. Overcooked & kids food came out cold. Wont be back.

We went for bunch on a Sunday. We arrived at 10:30am. Ruby Sunshine is in the space that use to house Bartaco. That space has probably the most parking compared to any other space in downtown Homewood. We went inside and were greeted by a very friendly staff. We joined the waitlist. Hostess said it would be a 20 minute wait for 2 people. They use the Yelp check in system, it is very handy. You can see how long you've been waiting on your app, and how many people are ahead of you, very handy. We ended up standing in the corner and waiting 63 minutes to be seated. Much longer than the 20 we were told. We were sat in a great part of the restaurant. Our server greeted us quickly. He was absolutely great. My glass never got empty(Thats rare.) He had our food out to use in 12 minutes. He did an excellent job. The menu was nice. It had some good options. Birmingham for sure needs more places that serves Eggs Benedict. The menu had a wide array of options. I went with the El Cochon and the Chicken St Charles. They looked great. Both were served with hollandaise sauce, but as you can see in the photo, not the same sauce. I will say they both had a photogenic amount of hollandaise. I never had a bite with enough hollandaise to actually taste it. So I put a little on my finger and tried it by itself. I really didn't taste much of anything. Granted, Hollandaise is only a few ingredients, but it still is supposed to have flavor. The fried chicken in the Chicken St Charles was top notch. It was truly a great piece of chicken. Flavorful, tender, juicy, correct amount of breading. I would gladly eat the fried chicken as a meal. Biscuit was very good. If you are going to put Eggs Benedict on a biscuit, that is a great biscuit to use. Over all, the meal was good. I would eat there again. I will not wait 1 hour ever again to eat there, but I would be willing to wait 10 minutes. In the future, I would check the Live Yelp wait time before going. There is only a single stall restroom. So keep in mind, if you are there for a business lunch, your client will be waiting a hot minute for you to return. read more

Ate here for the first time this morning. Menu wasn't quite what I expected or hoped it to be. The food was good though. The place seemed pretty slow especially for the amount of servers I saw on the floor. That's gotta be killing their labor costs. Anyways. Our server was training someone else, she was really nice and attentive but not overly attentive. She knew what she was doing and I'd give her props but she never told us her name. The food and drinks were all insanely delicious. Not sure if it's the type of place I'd go to a lot though, the menu just didn't have that many things on it that stood out to me. If you like Bloody Marys, get it with bacon infused vodka, it's delicious!! read more

Ruby Sunshine Homewood - Build your own omelet & Fruit Cup - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Birmingham, Alabama

Service is a little slow and disjointed, but I'm hoping that is because they are new and the employees are getting a feel for the role of a server, The 3 little pigs omelet was amazing, and the banana french toast was as well! We loved the taste of rum and caramel. It could've been a lot less sweet though, it was almost overwhelming how much sugar there was in it. read more

We had our food delivered, but everything was still hot and delicious. My bf got an omelet with goat cheese, French toast, grits, and spicy sausage. I got a stack of fluffy pancakes, potatoes, and fruit. It was filling and so tasty. The butter threw us for a loop until we realized it was maple syrup butter. My only complaint was that the spicy sausage was bitter and really small. read more

Amazing! Visiting Birmingham for work and stopped to eat here. Looking for a nice outdoor space with great food - you will find it here! Ordered the Peacemaker - choose a combination of Benedict's - I chose the pulled pork and fried chicken- both were amazing! They are served on a biscuit that melts in your mouth! Hollandaise Sauce to die for! Also ordered GOUDA grits - they were also very good. Overall great food, ambiance and service! read more

I would recommend going throughout the week I was told the wait time was 2-3 hours once 3 hours were up I was told 20 minutes i waited an extra 15 before going back to inquire again about the time and was told another 20 minutes. I understand it is easier to seat a party of 2 compared to 5 however as i walk through the restaurant to the restroom there are about 4 tables that are empty or not cleaned off!!!!!!! So on top of waiting because it is a "holiday if i leave and go elsewhere we would have to wait more hours to be seated and no telling how long on the food aspect. Breakfast has turned in to lunch read more

Excellent brunch spot! Thank you Ruby Sunshine for coming to Homewood/Birmingham. Today was my first time here. I had the catfish and grits. I must say it was a delicious first time meal. The grits were cooked to perfection, and the catfish made you think of a good ole fish fry. Lol I also had a side of the applewood smoked bacon, which was perfection. I was sadden that I couldn't try a cranberry Mimosa because of the time I went on Sunday, but that just means I have to come back :) read more
