Even though we arrived around lunchtime, there were only two servers on duty. Our waitress was so patient in serving our " seasoned eaters." She was very efficient in handling diners inside and outside the restaurant. The menu was varied. Difficult to make decisions, they all looked delicious. The food was not compromised by the fact that they were understaffed. read more

Yelp reviews rarely fail me but today it did. Long wait but it was supposed to be worth it. When the food finally came out it was cold and obviously not freshly prepared except maybe the eggs (which were also only warm at best) but worse than that my sons plate was DIRTY. Not even just a little dishwasher residue but a plate so dirty it was as if they dumped the previous food off and instantly reused it. It had a very evident large chocolate dollop and also chocolate smears from the previous meal (none of our meals had chocolate). Thankfully our son saw it all as soon as he picked up his breakfast sandwich. The manger was great but then when they replaced our meals they were all still cold . Our son's meal so cold that the cheese completely unmelted and the shredded cheese was falling out. The manger finally had to make his sandwich herself so 3rd attempt it was finally right. Two hours wasted on a meal that had us gagging because we wonder if we were all eating and drinking with dirty dishes and because it was prepared and served improperly. If the food had been prepared to order and served hot I'm sure it would be excellent but they are too busy and maybe short handed. It's like all our ingredients were picked off of a Buffett that had been sitting out a while. we left our waitress a $20 tip because we assume it's not her fault but she could have been more attentive. read more

Wasn't what I was expecting for a brunch spot. I'm from Atlanta so I'm use to upscale. The breakfast was different and kind of mediocre. Service was great tho. read more

I've had many great experiences at Ruby Sunshine. So many, that I brought my sister after raving to her about it. It took an hour to get a table, which is pretty typical-- it's usually worth it, but not this time. I ordered a Bloody Mary and got some kind of bacon-infused monstrosity that literally had lard floating in it. We got 4 different benedicts and EVERY one of them was cold. Somehow, the poached eggs were way over cooked but also cold. Crawfish and shrimp-- cold. Sauces-- cold, congealed, and unappealing. My sister got a side of avocado, and it came out with mold on it. The biscuits were so cold and hard that my toddler wouldn't even eat them. This place is too expensive for that kind of quality. Very disappointing. read more

Great brunch spot! Good bloody Mary's and biscuit bennies! Their white gravy is also good!

So this place we found when we were visiting and really wanted breakfast other than the hotel. The food was so good. It reminds me of the Ruby Slipper in New Orleans. They have to be sister restaurants at least. Breakfast with. A New Orleans /creole type twist. Our server was so sweet and fast paced. She got us well taken care of. She gave us menu suggestions and made sure we got what we needed . We also ordered a mimosa ... they are not stingy with the bubbly so be prepared to feel relaxed after a drink or two. The restaurant was clean and we sat immediately; we went on a Friday morning around 8 so there wasn't a crowd but the restaurant was filled so that speaks for its self . They have a small parking lot so be prepared for street parking. My crab cake Benedict was on the seasonal menu. I don't eat tomatoes so I had them take the fried green tomato off so it isn't pictured. BUT MAN ! I was nervous about the corn garnish but I CLEANED the plate everything was delicious. I'll be back on Birmingham for work and I'll be stopping back by, and I normally don't circulate restaurants more than once . read more

My daughter has raved about Ruby Sunshine! So, she took me during my visit in Birmingham. I can see why she loves this place. The staff was very friendly. Our waiter was awesome. He made us laugh the entire time. The French toast bites were good. The sauce was delicious. They would have been perfect if they had arrived at the table a little warmer. My daughter ordered the 3 pig omelet with house potatoes and a biscuit. She truly enjoyed it. I had a bite and it was amazing. The omelette was cooked perfectly. I ordered the Migas. To my surprise, it was absolutely delicious. I never had breakfast nachos. Make sure to add the crawfish. I will definitely visit again and try something new. We also tried the flavored mimosas. We only liked two out of the four. But, it was fun trying them and sharing our thoughts about each with the waiter. If you are in the area, make sure to stop by and enjoy brunch! Make sure to put your name on the waitlist before arriving. They are busy! read more

I love that I can add myself to the waitlist on Yelp. The estimated was not very accurate though; we waited at least 30 minutes longer than the estimation. This place was bustling for Sunday brunch, even when we left around 2:30 PM. All of the food was delicious! The staff was nice. They are doing contactless pay with a QR code as well as a mix of indoor and outdoor seating. The parking lot is small so you might have to find street parking. read more

I wanted a good breakfast while in Birmingham and this place had great reviews, so we decided to try it out... DID NOT DISAPPOINT!! I checked in online and the wait was supposedly 10-15 mins, which needed up being more like 45 mins, but the food was definitely worth the wait! We ordered the seasonal beignets which were a king cake inspired food, that was phenomenal! The cheesecake and strawberry jam really took them to another level! Then for the main course we both got The Peacemakers, mine with Eggs Cochon and Chicken St. Charles while my mom got The Corned Beef and Bayou Shrimp... all were fantastic!! I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the area and look forward to trying different options! Definitely check-in on Yelp before you go if you're going during peak hours! read more

We went here because of their awesome waitlist feature. There was no wait because we checked in before we even left home! Great social distancing, fast service and a very complete menu. We had shrimp Benedict, eggs blackstone, and chicken St Charles. All were quite good - but, one thing. I love Hollandaise sauce. With eggs, I think it's sublime. But not here. I did not love their hollandaise. It's a bit too rich, just a bit over seasoned, over salted. So - everything was nice with the one small exception, which is easily avoided. read more

FOOD WAS BUSSIN!!! Ruby Sunshine never disappoints with there delicious breakfast foods! We started off with an appetizer, the French toast bites and they were amazing. We will most definitely be coming back!!! Our server, Tyler C. was awesome and very nice! He needs a raise! read more

Ruby Sunshine is one of my favorite places in Birmingham. They recently add a new meal, Sweet and Spicy chicken over French toast bites. It is the perfect combination of flavor and my new go-to whenever I'm there. I deducted a star because the French toast bites were not the freshest when I received them, still a good meal though. read more

Started this review here 6 months ago, but forgot to post. So I'll add today's experience: First visit: Breakfast is unique here. Louisiana Cajun menu. Crawfish cake Benedict. We ate outside Today: Hour and a half wait, on a beautiful Fall Sunday morning. Ruby Fizz, mocktail is a fascinating drink here. This time I ordered the Trifecta. Could not decide, so opted for a combination of three of the specialties. After all, it was now noon, and breakfast and lunch had to be combined. The Trifecta is very protein filled- meats, poached eggs, etc. Great flavor variety. Really enjoyed it. I have to say something. Their fried green tomatoes are not to my liking. But almost no one makes them in the original Southern style. In fairness, I don't believe fried green tomatoes are Cajun or even Louisiana. Just general Southern. So almost no one gets fried green tomatoes right, so we must forgive almost every restaurant which vainly tries. read more

Excellent food, atmosphere, and amazing service! Had shrimp and grits. So so good! Love this place!!

First time visiting Alabama and was told to head to Ruby Sunshine for Saturday brunch. The line was long but everyone waited patiently. Luckily we made reservations online. Our large group mostly all ordered the mimosas which didn't disappoint. "The Big Easy" and the "Ruby Mimosa" were delicious and was a generous pour. These mimosas dont come in a champagne flute but a wine glass. I'll have another bartender! The Bbq Shrimp & Grits were very good and so were the Fried Green Tomatoes. Our server Amber was amazing and took great care of us. I would come back for another visit if I were in Birmingham. read more

The mimosa flight did not taste good. The food was okay I got a omelette, the French toast bites were the best thing .

There was a 45 min wait for tables when my friends and I arrived but fortunately we snagged seats at the bar. I did not get any alcoholic drinks but my friends did and enjoyed them. They come with 2 oz of alcohol which really jump started Sunday. I ordered the salmon avocado toast and thought it was really average. The salmon was very bland and slightly overcooked. The poached egg tasted like vinegar. I feel like I could have combined a few things from the supermarket and came up with something much tastier. What really stood out was our bartender/server Rachel. She was super personable and made our experience enjoyable. This is not my top choice for brunch but I would not be opposed to going back. read more

This is my go to brunch place during the week. In my personal opinion .. the biscuits are the top reason to go they're so thick and fluffy and the little honey butter for them is even better. The waitresses are always a pleasure and present. The food is pretty good too it could just use a bit more seasoning but ehh ... salt works too. But the drinksss are also a hit. I'd give them a good 8/10 overall read more

This place was fantastic! Stopped by after a neighborhood walk on a Saturday morning, just a few days after Ruby Sunshine opened back up from the COVID lockdown. I went to Ruby Sunshine this past Saturday morning and had a great time! The atmosphere was great and our waiter was very attentive. I got the Iced Vanilla Coffee for the first time and it was so good! I wish they did put less ice in there, though. I also got the avocado toast, which I've had many times. The bread was a little dry this time, but it's usually incredibly delicious. Ruby Sunshine is always a great time with good food if you're willing to wait a while. Also, make sure your whole party is there before you ask to be seated. read more
