Shrimp pad Thai, shrimp wonton soup veggies and shrimp.

I live in Skokie but I never tried the Ruby of Siam before. I was just passing by the restaurant and said let me just get my lunch from here. I bought shrimp wonton soup. Also shrimp basil with veggies. Veggies and protein extra price but it was worth it. I love the taste of little spicy and crunchy veggies. Absolutely become one of my favorite

I'm in LOVE. My favorite items and both were five stars amazingly great food. Mee Krob is not found at a lot of Thai restaurants- but the authentic ones have it, but not all are good. Ruby's was fantastic!! The red curry chicken was delicious and the chicken was moist and not over done. Run, don't walk here for flavor, taste and friendly attentive service.

I came across this place when I got crumbl cookies next door. I ordered the food to go, Ruby 4-appetizer sampler, chicken pad see ewe, crab fried rice. Service was very quick, not even 15 minutes for me to get my order. Everything was delicious. I especially appreciated that the crab fried rice was not imitation crabmeat. I'll come again if I'm in the area.

It had been a while since dining at this location. We stopped in and ordered the lunch special ($16.99) which includes appetizer, soup, entree and dessert or drink. I ordered the potstickers, tom yum soup, drunken noodles and mango sticky rice. The food came out extremely fast. The potstickers were crisp and hot, the tom yum also hot and sour (in a small cup), the drunken noodles were a very big portion. That's my favorite dish, I love the fat rice noodles. The only thing that wasn't my favorite was the mango sticky rice. The cube of rice was dry and a little tough, although the mango was ripe and tender. My friend enjoyed their ruby crab stick, tom yum soup, pad see iew and mango rice. This was a lot of food for lunch. We usually order takeout from the Highland Park location, although this was very good. There was only one other table dining here during our late lunch.

Really fair prices. We started with WARM fresh spring rolls in winter! fantastic. Next was the pineapple curry with stout sauce. You need the pineapple chunks to balance the palette. The lychee shrimp fried rice a house specialty has a lot going on between the cashew nuts, lychee and shrimps. I personally could use less nuts. It's still agreeable mind you. Look this place is down to earth Thai restaurant with what looks like a complete Thai staff - how authentic does it get?

Had a meeting with someone and this restaurant was nearby so we decided to stop by on a Wednesday to grab lunch. We saw that there was a lunch special with an appetizer, soup, entree and dessert. I opted for the chicken satay, wonton soup, pad see ew, and mango over coconut rice. The chicken satay was served with a side of peanut sauce, the chicken was super juicy and the peanut sauce isn't too sweet. The wonton soup was served in a mug. The flavors were delicious and it was perfect for a gloomy day. The pad see ew was served with beef and had wide rice noodles and broccoli. And lastly the mango over coconut rice - probably my favorite of the meal. The coconut rice was served warm and was just the right consistency, with sweet mango. The service was a just okay as they did get a lunch rush. But our food came out quickly and was exactly what we ordered so no complaints there. It did take a while to get our check, and there wasn't much interaction with our server other than our order being taken. All in all, I'd certainly come back and try other items when in the area.

I think Ruby of Siam is generally very fine. We came here for the lunch special and it is a substantial amount of food for lunch. Salad, appetizer, entree and dessert. The lunch menu price is a little on the high side though. The service is good too - they were quick on the order and were able to make suggestions. I'm am no expert on Thai food though, but I thought the overall flavors could be a little stronger. I probably picked the wrong dish maybe? Next time, I should do the curries.

Skokie and nearby suburbs are blessed with an abundance of Thai restaurants. We hadn't dined at Ruby in several years, so we decided to wander in for their lunch special. My recollection is that the food and service were okay but not great. Well, guess what? The food and service are still okay but not great. The lunch special is currently $14.99. You get to choose one appetizer, one soup or salad, one entrée, and one dessert, a pretty good deal. My app was chicken potstickers (offered steamed or fried). There are three plus a soy dipping sauce. This was excellent. For the next course, I ordered papaya salad. Well, this dish looked more like tomato salad (I have an aversion to raw tomatoes). Wasn't what I expected. When I asked the server (who wasn't particularly friendly) to exchange this dish for cucumber salad, she did so grudgingly and with a roll of the eyes. The cukes, in a wonderful sweet vinaigrette, was like eating candy. My entrée was lard nar with chicken. Ruby's version is dryish and less flavorful than most. For dessert, I boldly tried the coconut rice with mango. This wasn't a winner, either.

Place is very touristy. BYOB. Service is quick. Food is great! We ordered Tom ka (coconut soup) baby fried egg rolls, fried crab legs roll, chicken lime. I have a 3 because of the utensils. The cup of water has a lip stain on it.

It's a welcoming atmosphere, prompt service, and tasty food! We had lunch specials, which included an appetizer, salad, main dish, and dessert. The dessert was very small, but just right after all that other food! Panang curry is very good here.

I've had many clutch spots over the years as I moved around, but it took me a minute to find my North Shore go-to. But here I am, a local for half a year now, and my go-to is Ni's, 100%. Lisa, the owner extraordinaire, is friendly, engaging, and an absolute customer service star. Not to mention a formidable chef. She has an obvious passion for food and its cultural history, and I love talking with her about it. The whole crew at Ni's is awesome and always happy to chat or handle any dish alterations. They clearly care about their clientele, and it's one of the things that keeps me coming back. My "must have" is the veggie summer rolls. I get them every time. Really, really good. And after living in the Vietnamese neighborhood of San Francisco for a few years, eating out almost daily, I've had my fair share of summer rolls. The produce at Ni's is always fresh, and I love how they cleverly use jicama for crunch. The rolls come with peanut sauce, but Ni's makes a delicious vegan fish sauce in-house that I go with almost every time. Banh Mi, Veggie Pho, Crispy Tofu, Fried Rice, I've had everything on the menu that is vegan or can be made so, and I'll gladly order them all again and again. This is not an all-vegan restaurant by any stretch (fear not, meat eaters), but Lisa goes out of her way to have options, and I've never been anything but satisfied. Even my kindergartner is into the veggie Pho broth and summer rolls, and he's not the easiest to please. Wilmette is lucky to have Ni's. I hope everyone knows that. They're tucked around the corner from the busier area of Central Ave and Wilmette Ave, and I've been doing my best to spread the word. "You've never been to Ni's?! Get the hell outta here.." So, if you didn't know, now you do. You're welcome.

There was a live saxophone player and I loved the live flowers they had. Our waiter was extremely nice and took the time to explain the menu as well as their customer favorites. I order a Thai iced tea which wasn't bad but I prefer mine a little thicker and sweeter. It came in a thin tall glass which in theory was not a lot of drink. To start we order the chicken appetizer and fried beef on rice to share and unfortunately I did not snap a pic but these were listed under apps or shareables but the portions were extremely small. As our mains came I noticed that they were also small and each were around $20-$30 per plate. Not a bad thing if you don't eat much but I'm a big bang for buck type of gal. My family came to share and this place is a more fine dining thai restaurant which could explain the smaller portions. We ordered the pad Thai which was alright in my opinion I expected a little more flavor, the aubergine which was tossed vegetables as recommended by our waiter which was also ok not much flavor but beautiful plating though, and the coconut curry which was by far my favorite. If I were to come back here I would order that again, it was a nice light yet complex flavor profile which made me savor every bite. Overall good place for an upbeat fancier meal and I highly recommend the coconut curry braised chicken if you visit. Little pricey but that's just my opinion let me know what you guys think if you visit! Oh and they also give your receipt in a boat which they spin and leave a thank you card once you paid which was really cute.

There is easy street parking available, but I was walking so did not need any parking. The restaurant space has plenty of tables and was clean. There were a few tables sat when I walked in. There are no signs to wait for host/seat yourself, so I stood at the front for a few minutes before who I think is the owner actually ended up coming up and helping. He was running around, very busy, helping prepare and serve the food to the tables that had already ordered. I asked if I could just place an order to go and just ordered a Pad Thai for carry out. The food came out honestly very quickly for just one person in the kitchen plus the owner, and with other tables already with tickets in, but I would not necessarily say this is a super fast in and out experience if you're in a rush. The take out container was packaged in a thick brown bag (no breaking through the bottom of the bag on the walk home here!) and the owner cashed me out himself. He was very kind but did not really engage in any of the small talk I attempted while waiting for the screens to load and payment to process. The Pad Thai was packed super neatly and cleanly in a plastic take out box. The serving size was deceptively large, and they pack in a heavy serving of noodles and bean sprouts and your protein of choice (chicken for me!) into this little box. I was shocked at how fresh everything tasted! This was a perfect Pad Thai and I will absolutely order this a million times over living right down the block. There were plenty of fresh bean sprouts, the noodles were cooked perfect, it wasn't dry or drowning in sauce, a little lime wedge on the side and I was a happy camper. I can't wait to come back and try more menu items, their amazing lunch specials, and support a local business. Thank you, Mai Thai and Sushi!
