Sweet or savory? Sweet or savory? It's the eternal crepe dilemma. The only satisfying solution is to go with both or you'll be yearning for the other option halfway through your meal. In Ruben's case, the Mexican variety is his specialty but the nutella/fruit decision is never wrong. There are tons of options and ideas listed, and I'm going to try something new every time until I've exhausted the possibilities. I just wish they would add a little bit *more* of whatever goodies you've chosen to your crepe...next time I'll chime up as they are making it in front of me. The crepes by themselves are so thin and buttery that one by itself with a little cinnamon sugar makes a nice little snack. The prices are right (pretty much anything you want for under 10 bucks) not to mention the hours: due to recent demand, Ruben's is now open super late night on the weekends. What a great find! Yummy, hot, homemade crepes with all sorts of delicious fillings are served fresh from this small, very casual restaurant in Federal Hill on Charles St. My husband and I went for dinner. We got four of the $4 crepe specials of the day- the baby spinach, asiago, and black pepper crepe; the egg and cheddar cheese crepe; the banana and nutella crepe; and the apple, butter, and cinnamon crepe. It ended up being quite filling for $16. First of all, the crepes themselves were delicious- thin and hot. But we loved all four of the crepes we tried, and it's very reasonably priced (aside from the specials, typical prices are in the $6-$8 range). There are many great sounding flavors- I really want to try the peanut butter, chocolate, marshmallow, and banana crepe. They also sell some Mexican food- which sounded good as well. Given the price and the quality, I'm hoping this place does well- it's a great little place to have around for lunch or an easy dinner. read more

This food is outstanding. The owners need a little bit more practice at the little restaurateur things (including utensils and napkins and such), but the food is so amazing and authentic (not Tex-Mex or anything, straight up Mexican) that is definitely has a place in the neighborhood. The sit down Mexican places in Fed Hill are nice but work better as bars that happen to have tacos. This is a real deal taco stand and if you like tacos, you need to try these. read more

(08/18/2010) I love food from trucks! A truck from Ruben's used to show up at work every Wednesday during the pleasant summer months. I usually had the special of the day: carne (beef) asada, cilantro, white onion, tomatoes, queso fresco, salsa verde. Fillings were fresh (except for the leathery pieces of beef), crepe was a little sweet. Another nice crepe was the #2 (Ham, Apple, Maple, Spinach, Muenster Cheese). Probably have tried 8 or 9 different savory crepe combos from there. My faves are always the ones with the Mexican-style ingredients. Don't be afraid of the eggs and beans one! We miss them at work. Have never been to the store location (so can't comment on that), but if it's a crepe and Ruben and his crew are cooking it, I bet it's good. read more

The food was incredible! Tacos were great and the burrito was HUGE! Their staff was so kind and friendly while working really quickly. Their set up is very Covid safe, and the food travels really well. The best part is their house signature sauce. SO yum. Ruben's crepes are great! I echo all of the other reviews. While the idea of a Mexican crepe is strange to think about, it is delicious to eat! I usually have the savory crepes for lunch, but occasionally I splurge and get a sweet crepe for dessert. Right now, posted hours are 4 pm to 2 am. We ordered a chicken burrito and a steak burrito bowl. I thought they were both delicious although my companion was slightly less impressed. The sauces were great as well, especially the spicy red. My only complaint would be that the price is a tad high for the portion size, particularly the bowl. Perhaps my chipotle bias is showing but I stand by the opinion. read more

Absolutely delicious. This sets up around my work for lunch time once a week, and the lines around around the parking lot. There's a reason for this, they are quick and DELICIOUS! I haven't had a single thing here that I didn't like. My favorite in the Mexican Wrap, but I've tried Crepes (mine was a chicken/cheesy heaven), Quesadillas, and a Rice Bowl before. I have made fun of this restaurant for a solid 6 months, ever since moving to Federal Hill (it says Ruben's Crepes and Mexican Food on the sign...it is just an odd combination, and for a long time, I thought they were claiming to offer ruben sandwiches, crepes, and Mexican food). I was so very wrong. I went in the other day and got a savory crepe loaded with cheese, vegetables, and chorizo...and it was GOOD. It was like a French quesadilla. I thought it was a little on the pricey side (~$11 for the crepe), but it was substantial enough for a meal. I will definitely be going back to try the sweet crepes! Yes, its a little weird that a place would sell both mexican dishes and crepes, but somehow it just works. Every crepe I have tried has been very good, and the tacos are great as well. You can see that everything is made fresh. Their green and red sauces are also awesome. The only downside is the hours -it usually does not open until later in the night to accomodate the drunk crowd. Best crepe is the bacon/egg/green onion/chili sauce. Just out of this world. read more
