RJs is a strange mix. It's a sports bar with pretty darn good wings. Some nights the vibe is congenial and somewhat laid back. Other nights it's a meat market and hosts the worst sort of frat-type guys. If you want to avoid lewd, drunken behavior, then don't go on Friday and Saturday nights. They kicked my wife and I out on a Saturday night for "acting too intoxicated." We had not been drinking at all. They had NO reason to kick us out, The bouncers (about 3 or 4 of them) insulted us by (multiple times) saying that they were sober and we were drunk so they were "right." Sadly, I gave this place three tries, and three times, the service was absolutely terrible. Our entire group waited for nearly 15 minutes to even get the first round of drinks on a night when the bar was haf full. Moreover, when it was time for round two, we waited another 15 minutes to get the server's attention. Great place to watch the big game with your friends. Plenty of TVs, wings are really good and a great selection for drinks. Lots of times when I come here there is some kind of promo so there is always the possibility of a free drink. Bathrooms are suspect and the pool table is being balanced by coasters. read more

Hubby and I are here in Burlington for a 3-week working vacation. We've been to this town a handful of times before and always love it, but the Church Street scene wears on us, too pricey, too touristy. We started yelping for some more of the "locals" types of places and came up with Ruben James. Some of the reviews have been down on the service, but we wanted to test it out for ourselves. We've gone there a total of six times (so far). We love the food, the service, that somewhat divey feel. It suits us perfectly. Five out of the six times we had a great time, usually a good seat by the open window, or the "king's" table in the back with a couple of friends who came to Burlington during our stay. The music has been great, Sublime-ish stuff. They have different specials every day of the week, like Magic Hat Pint and a Pound (chicken wings) special on Saturday for $6.75, Burger Night on Thursday (any burger with fries) for $5.99. The french onion soup is fantastic! The draft beer selection is very good, many locals including Queen City, Zero Gravity, Magic Hat, etc. Only one time did we end up leaving after one beer, and that was because there was a different bartender we had never seen who had crappy pop/bubblegum-ish music turned up to 11 (for those of you who have seen Spinal Tap), so we couldn't even talk to each other. My husband actually asked her to turn it down (an usual thing for us to do), which she may or may not have done, we couldn't really tell. We've been back a couple times since that incident and have been happy, so 5 out of 6 ain't bad. Overall, a great experience, and we'll continue to go. We love one server in particular, her name is Taylor. She even helped us find chalk for the pool cues when she wasn't working! Ask for her by name! read more

Worst bar in Burlington. Some friends and I went in here to play/eat/ and drink at trivia night tonight. After sitting at the table, ordering food, and drinks from the bar, for 2 hours, the waitress came up to our table to inform us that our tab was too low and we didn't order enough. She informed us that next week we wouldn't be welcome back. This was an incredibly rude, and unnecessary comment coming from a waitress who neglected us the entire night, which forced us to order our drinks directly from the bar, which caused our table tab to be lower than she was apparently hoping for. Every other time I have been here, the bartenders and waitresses have been rude, short, and overall incompetent. I will not be returning. read more

This is one of my favorite and most frequented bars in Burlington. Every Thursday is free wings with every alcoholic beverage purchase 9-11. This is my favorite special in town. A pretty standard bar - one plus, they had free wings at 9pm which my friends and I DEVOURED. They also had mini pitchers for something like under $7 - which consisted of 2.5 drinks or so. Great deal, service and atmosphere were so-so. But, I'd come back and give them another shot. read more

My friends and I went to RJs for a drink on a Saturday night and had a horrible experience. It wasn't that busy but the service was very slow and we had an extremely rude encounter with a bouncer there. We were there for a bachelorette party and took a picture of the bride only to be yelled at by bouncer who grabbed our drinks and proceeded to push my friends and I out the door. We are NOT a rowdy bunch and to get kicked out and treated rudely for taking a picture is RIDICULOUS. We used to like Rjs but we will definitely be taking our money elsewhere from now on. read more

RJ's is a really confusing establishment in Downtown Burlington. On one hand, during he early evening (before 9pm) they are a sports bar and restaurant with a criminally underrated menu, on the other, after 10pm on weekends it becomes a faux-dance club nightmare. It's amazing if you go there between 6 and 9 for dinner, because they really do have some great menu options, and a lot of original dishes, but just don't stay too long because once they started removing the tables and the Dj's start setting up its one of the worst places to be in Burlington. read more

I've been here quite a few times over the years and normally have a great experience! This time, however, our server was rude and had very poor customer service skills. Right off the bat, she threw the menu down at my girlfriend- no greeting or anything and then left. Her tone was very rude, she didn't check in to see how the food was or if we wanted refills, we asked for honey mustard and she threw that down onto the table as well, and any time we asked for anything, she made it seem like she was inconvenienced. Normally I would just give her the benefit of a doubt and say maybe she is having a bad day, however she was interacting with other customers and was just fine. Anyway, the food was delicious and they had good drink deals. We got a small pitcher of PBR for $4! Atmosphere was good- wasn't too crowded! The food is best left for the completely wasted drunk idiot. The service (except for a very FEW waitresses) is best described as not worthy of a toilet bowl. I had waitress in the past try to serve food w/out even clearing the table of the excessive piles of buffalo wings, dirty napkins and beer cups, on MULTIPLE occasions.. The attitudes of the wait staff vary from any given moment. Their attitudes run the range from slightly pleasant, tolerable, and acceptable to ignorant, rude, and down right ignoring customers.. It's a terrible way to run a service oriented facility, but they'll always survive because of their BEST ATTRIBUTE, Great Drink Specials and plenty of TVs for most of the college dominated customers... Beyond that, don't expect anything more than a lackluster experience based around bad service, terrible food, and a dingy eating environment... So I have to start out by saying I usually love this place and have had nothing but great experiences here, but that ended last night. Me and a friend went there for the Cincinnati game and half off burger night. We ordered and app and two burgers and watched some sports. Well it took almost 45 minutes to get our food and when we did the app came with the food, not a huge deal, but we were not real impressed. Food was good and when we called for the bill I had been charged for an extra drink. I could have complained but I had honestly had enough at that point so I left my tip in cash on the table, it wasn't much but I refuse not to leave tips cuz the food Industry is tough. Come to find out this morning that the waitress added a dollar tip to my card charge!! Not happy and will not be going back anytime soon. read more
