We went last night for my son's 21st birthday, and from the moment we arrived, there was not a single misstep. He was greeted at the host stand with a warm "Happy Birthday," and the menus had "Happy Birthday" printed on them. It was personal without being over-the-top, which is exactly the sweet spot. Our server, Gianni, set the tone immediately. He came to the table with complimentary champagne for everyone, and when he realized my daughter was not yet 21, he did not miss a beat. He brought her an elderflower drink in a champagne flute so she could toast with the rest of the family. That one small pivot told me everything I needed to know about the level of service we were about to receive. The whole evening was beautifully paced. I like to order family style, so Gianni and I talked through the menu together, and once we finalized everything, he coursed it out perfectly. We were never rushed, but there was never a lag. The service had that almost invisible rhythm that great restaurants get right: fresh plates, proper flatware, full water glasses, serving utensils with every dish, and a seamless dance between the server and support staff. And the food absolutely held up its end of the bargain. Everything we ordered was excellent, but there were a few surprise standouts that I am still thinking about: the thick-cut applewood smoked bacon, the Parker House rolls with French butter, the hand-cut black truffle fries, and the Westholme Strip Wagyu from Australia, which Gianni suggested and which was a complete home run. This is a steakhouse, yes, but the details around the meal were just as memorable as the steak itself. For dessert, the chef sent out a mountain of cotton candy with a Happy Birthday sign attached. My son was also served an enormous piece of chocolate cake with a candle and was offered as much whipped cream as he could handle, which, for a 21-year-old, is exactly the correct amount of drama. We spent our anniversary at RPM Steak and it was the right decision. The hostess staff were so friendly and welcoming and all the servers look very sharp. They personalized our menus and also gave us a full glass of champagne to toast. We ordered the table side steak tartare, a filet, Dover sole, bleu cheese whipped potatoes and the lemon meringue pie (to go). We also had several cocktails including the Supernova, Crystal Paloma, and About Last Night. Our server, Max, was informative and didn't hoover, which I always appreciate. Once we ordered, everything seemed to come to the table quickly and the food was delicious. I especially enjoyed watching one of the staff debone the sole table side. The fish was light and yet still hearty. The steak was cooked more medium rare than medium but it was still just right age the whipped potatoes were unique and delicious. My favorite was the tartare that was prepared table side and served with house made chps. The serving was quite large too. As a final gesture to celebrate, they also gave us some house made cotton candy which added to the whimsy of the evening. We went here for a special date night and to be fair, we were expecting a little better for service. We have been to many other high-end steakhouses, so the service here was not what we had expected at all. Our server did not seem attentive at all, gave only 1 check in, forgot to tell us the specials, and did not walk through the menus at all. We gave benefit of the doubt that perhaps the restaurant was just busy (we had reservations), but it did not seem like that was the case. The table next to us had a different server, and they were way more attentive, and giving recommendations based on what is popular. To us, it felt like the service was not worth the price we paid for at all (~$400). As former food service workers, we wanted to give some grace, but at the same time, it is hard for us to justify the level of service for a restaurant that is supposed to be very nice. However, the food was delicious. The NY Strip was a little tough to cut through, but it tasted great. The fries however, seemed like they were cold, and perhaps a little old since they had a soggy texture to it. Ambiance was beautiful. We had reservations, and we were seated in a half-circle booth. I recently went for my birthday and I had heard nothing but great things about this place. We let them know in advance that we were there celebrating my birthday. We were greeted and sat down to a welcoming menu that read happy birthday. We had a wonderful waiter who greeted us and was very enthusiastic about us being there for a first time. I had mentioned that I had only been there to pick up the wonderful chocolate cake for takeout. He remembered that. We started with the pop over rolls and kale salad as well as I ordered the Zero Proof drink called Waitlist. First the drink: it was very refreshing and lightly sweetened with a nice sparkle. The rolls were crispy with an airy and flaky inside. Came with a wonderful seasoned butter appeared nicely with it, and the textures were all on point. The kill salad was nice and fresh. The dressing on it was a little tangy prepared nicely with the fresh mushrooms, and there was shredded cheese. I was slightly dusted over it. All the textures were great and the crispy onions also were nice. For the main course, we ordered the double Wagyu cheeseburger and the creek stone center cut fillet. The fillet was cooked medium well and it was phenomenal. For someone that doesn't eat steak as often it had a very nice taste and texture as well as we paired it with a truffle sauce. The Wagyu cheeseburger was amazing with a soft pillow bun and amazing garlic sauce, and crispy onions. The meat on the burger was very tasteful and not too thick which I loved. The fries that came with those were seasoned well. Next for the sides, we ordered hen of the mushrooms and the golden plate of the night was the Japanese sweet potatoes. The mushrooms had a nice flair to them and tasted very fresh she had seasoned. The Japanese potatoes were flesh fried and had a crispy texture on the outside had were soft and pull away on the inside, and there was a nice glazed sauce on it. Overall, the textures and sauce combinations worked so well in this dish. This is definitely a sleeper item for anyone to try. Last I was surprised with a happy birthday cotton candy, which was very whimsical and nice for celebrating a birthday and the waiter remembered about my favorite cake and was able to provide the 14k chocolate cake and that was such a wonderful end to an amazing dinner thank you RPM for allowing me to celebrate my birthday in the most amazing way. The truffle fries were amazing, not too strong of a truffle flavor and covered in parm! I'm not a red meat eater, but went here with a work group. Started with a petite seafood tower which was fresh, great variety, just perfect. Everyone except me got different steaks and all were extremely pleased with their meals. The one had a "steak sampler platter" that gave her small portions of 3 different cuts of meats. Another guy had a ribeye called it the best steak he ever had. I had the miso black cod, outstanding, good size portions and very favorable. Great selection of sides and apps (bacon was my favorite). Few tables away from us was a "influencer couple", and so obnoxious as they would feed each other the entire meal, while looking into the camera. And, oh, wow, the camera was on a full size tripod. They offer a wide Japanese Wagyu selection and caviar. As a guest, you get to enjoy these top-class foods and drinks in a formal but warm and inviting environment. Tastes great and is a memorable show as they flambé it at table side. Of course, the consideration is cost. Calling early to shift the reservation was denied as the available seating was 9:15. We effectively got pushed close to that time. Suffice to say, an auspicious start. Bar seating is dimly lit and you're up against the bar patrons and the music is loud. We'd have been better off in main dining. We ordered filets and a ribeye medium rare plus and sides with poppers, shrimp cocktail and a Caesar salad to start. Apps were excellent. The steaks so-so ... no desert. And G&T and Chardonnay drinks All in all, ok. But not a wow night. Service was good. This was a massive restaurant going for fancier vibes though they did have TVs showing live sports which seems antithetical to the elegant decor. The service was good. I never felt like my glass of water was ever less than 50 percent full. Since this was our first dinner in Chicago, we discovered too late that the portion size was bigger than NYC's. We enjoyed the wedge salad though we would've appreciated more tomatoes and avocado. We didn't realize the wagyu burger would come with fries so the additional orders of the ribeye with sides of broccolini and the whipped potatoes were excessive. We could've skipped the whipped potatoes. The butter we put on the ribeye really added to the flavor. We didn't have room for dessert. When we arrived, none of the staff were smiling, least of all at us. No one said "welcome", not until we got to our table. It was pouring rain outside so our choice to dine there should've been acknowledged. It was my birthday and I told them this. They did wish me a happy birthday, but did nothing else that made our visit special. We were sat in the bar, which was fine, but the music was really loud, which made conversation difficult as my husband has hearing aids. So we asked to be moved where it was at least a little better. On a couple of occasions the air conditioning turned on so high that we were freezing! The lady at the next table over from us had to ask them to turn it off! An amazing steakhouse is @rpmsteak. The steaks were well seasoned, the seafood was fresh, the chicken was juicy, the sides were delicious, and the desserts were delish. The sides we got were the Millionaires Potato, the Crispy Brussels Sprouts, the Bacon Mac & Cheese, and the Rosemary French Fries. The Bacon Mac & Cheese is a must have and was definitely one of my favorites. The main dishes were the Cowboy Steak, the Center-Cut Filet, the Ribeye, the RPM Steak Frites, and the Roasted Chicken, respectively. A good bar tender goes along way in elevating your dining experience, especially if you're waiting for dinner guest to arrive. Maddy the chill and engaging bar tender does just that. She is also confidently aware of the menu and had recommendations based on my preferences! Most, if not all Lettuce Entertain you restaurants are quality establishments, this included. Pricing is expensive but on par with other steak houses. Service is of course second to none and very unobtrusive. My water glass just fills itself without me noticing. The Bernie Miller chop, spicy broccolini, miso black cod and Japanese sweet potatoes were fine. Special mention however goes to the delmonico ribeye, parmesan spinach, Lobster Mac and cheese - these are reasons to come back. Another reason is the caramel bake Alaska that we didn't have time to order. So I guess I'm really coming back. Caramel backed Alaska are you kidding me? I'm in.
