I recently terminated my pool maintenance contract with this company after 7 years due to poor service and unethical billing practices. At the beginning, the service was excellent because Rob provided the service himself. However, during the last 3 years, the quality of service consistently deteriorated because Rob hired people who weren't trained and did not know how to properly service our pool. Yet, Rob continued to raise the price. Due to his crew member's failure to properly winterize our pool equipment, we had to replace our pool heater this summer, which was an unexpected and significant cost. Rob provided us a quote for the heater and installation work that was more than double the price quoted by three other companies. When we hired another company, Rob became upset and seemed to instruct the person maintaining our pool to provide us the bare minimum service. After his employee's poor service created problems with the quality of our pool water, we asked Rob to personally fix the problem, which he did. However, two months later, he sent us an unexpected bill for over $600 for this visit. We objected to the bill because his visit was covered by our maintenance contract and was necessitated by his employee's poor work. We also objected to the bill because he attempted to charge us over $200 for a pool robot part that we found for $35. Although we asked him to cite any provision in the contract or part invoice supporting his position, he was unable to do so and simply tried to coerce us into paying by refusing to perform our weekly pool cleanings or to close our pool for the winter even though we had already paid for these services under our contract. As a result, we had to hire another company to close our pool and provide winter maintenance work, both of which were additional unexpected and large costs. I called early one morning for a pool inspection that *had* to be carried out that day for a client who was buying a house in Westport. The owner of the company, Robert, answered the phone and, although he said he was pretty booked, promised to conduct the inspection at the end of the day. He was extremely professional, and clearly understands that good communication and reliability are crucial to a service business. My wife and I just moved into our new house in Stamford where we had an in ground gunite pool we knew was in need of some repair. I am a professional senior aged home owner with six years of lifeguarding in my youth, and most of my adult life have had a pool at my house, so I knew a thing or two about pools. I found Robert and RPM with a search of Yelp and studying the reviews. Actually, first I called the company that serviced the pool before. They did not show up for their appointment, but came unexpectedly the next day, by which time I had already settled on Robert's RPM. Robert made many suggestions, and analyzed what was needed to be done with this neglected pool. We live in an are that has iron contaminated well water for some complications to the prospect. The pool needed an expansion joint put in around the pool to prevent expansion and contraction damage with the weather. It needed cracks in the pool gunite cement repaired, one skimmer line replaced and fixed, an aluminum ladder put in the deep end after having an unsafe old weird stone device removed first, an aluminum hand railing put in the shallow entry end, total replacement of the tiles around the pool, clean water put in the pool by water tank truck. And we wanted the system converted to a no chlorine tablet, newer salt water type system better for our skins. And we wanted weekly maintenance with vacuuming. Robert is extremely knowledgeable, gave fabulous advice and recommendations, and was a man of his word in every way. He was not the cheapest, but he was sure the best. We spent over 17,000 to fix the pool up the right way with Robert, but I am a perfectionist, and am delighted in every way with his work. Furthermore, since the pool was finished on time, and very cleanly done, his maintenance has been nothing less than magnificent. Robert responds easily and quickly to my least phone call or concern. When one of the skimmer flaps was sticking, he was there that afternoon, even though I told him it was no emergency. I would recommend him to anyone wanting pool repair or service. I first met Robert while he was wth Glen Gate. To be honest, and GG knows this, the only reason we stayed with GG so long was bc of Robert. When Robert went on his own I immediately signed up for opening, closing and weekly service. Bottom line is I trust Robert. Our pool and spa look great all the time. He's extremely responsive whenever I contact him and most important in the pool business, he's honest. When we've had mechanical issues pop up he always suggests where to buy equipment for the best price and he installs at very reasonable prices. He doesn't gouge his clients and he's incredibly friendly. I won't trust our pool or our family's summer to anyone else. read more
