First Chris stood me up on our walk-through meeting. But we spoke over the phone and he assured me…read morethat if I marked the trees for pruning we'd be okay, he'd be there to get his crew started. But he wasn't. And they did a terrible job. They cut a third off of the top of the wrong tree, an aspen, although it wasn't marked for pruning and I had told them they were pruning fruit trees! They did the entire job with a chain saw, even branches smaller than a pencil. It left the bark pulled back and frayed (like they yanked off the branches that hadn't been severed by the chainsaw). And, the weird part, they did no actual pruning. They cut off height, but did no pruning for shape, no pruning for light or air filtration. All the little suckers and shoots that go straight up and bare no fruit remain. I called and explained what had happened. At first Chris was apologetic. He offered to have his crew come out and fix it. I told him I didn't feel comfortable with that. But I told him he should come out and see it. He pushed back hard, and accused me of scolding him (Chris, that's super sexist... I wasn't scolding you, I was holding you accountable to the high quality of professionalism that you claim in your website.) He was defensive but I tried to keep it constructive. Against my better judgement we decided that he and his crew would meet me this afternoon to fix what damage was fixable. And he said, clearly, that he'd be there. I texted him that I'd be 10 minutes late but that I was on my way, and he replied with a curt text that he'd worked "very hard" to get his crew there at 2:30 so "please be there at that time". And it was clear that Chris wouldn't be there. Of course, after I rushed home and arrived at 2:45 there was no one. The cost of this? $450 was the estimate. Chris said he'd "knock off some" for the damage. I don't know what it will be, and I'll pay it, because I want nothing else to do with them. I almost never write Yelp reviews but I've never felt so compelled to warn future customers. It sounds like they do fine with big take down jobs. It doesn't seem that they know what a fruit tree is.

I hired Hansen's to cut down multiple large trees in my yard. During the bid appointment, Kyle said that we could sell our wood after, and that he had a contact that buys timber to sell to the lumber yard, and he would connect us. Our invoice says they would cut our wood to "marketable sections". After they fell all the wood (and after we had stupidly paid them in full with cash), I called and texted both Kyle and Warren multiple times in attempts to get the contact who would buy our wood. Warren would say I had to talk to Kyle and Kyle wouldn't return texts, and his phone went straight to voicemail. I never got that contact. Desperate, I googled and called three different log buying companies, and they all said that the wood was not prepared properly to purchase, and it was not placed in ways that they could access to take away anyway. I reached out to Hansen's again to ask them to just cut the wood into firewood sections and chip some so that it was more manageable for me as a normal person to give away or move and so that giant felled trees and heavy cords were not blocking our yard and our neighbors yard. They did not return my call or texts again. I treated them fairly and was extremely patient at every stage, and I am still baffled in why they did this- don't think anyone would reasonably expect their yard to be left like this after a tree service company has been there. If they made a mistake and what they thought at the quote stage about having timber to sell at the end was not accurate, they should have worked with me to resolve and figure out a solution instead of just ignoring and not answering calls and leaving me with a giant mess to figure out. They come off as nice and talk a good talk but actions speak louder than words, and I don't think this was acceptable way to treat a customer. Also there are numerous other things I am not mentioning- they cracked the asphalt of the road in front of my house/neighbors driveway, late for multiple appointments, first quote they sent me was almost double what he told me in person and had to fix it, etc. In retrospect, there were many signs of unprofessionalism from the beginning that I wish I had done more research. My trees were pretty neglected. The tree service I had used for several years had gone out of…read morebusiness and I couldn't find a new company I wanted to work with. I was put into contact with Above All as a result of multiple attempts I had made to contact my previous company. Many of the staff who worked with my previous company are now associated with Above All. Luke came out on a Thursday to evaluate what needed to be done and help me prioritize the jobs. He submitted an estimate on Friday and the crew of 4 arrived the following Monday. They were on time and worked steadily until the jobs were complete and everything was cleaned up. Brandon (the crew chief) did a walk-through with me and we talked about what I could plan to do next. This was a huge job because nothing had been done for about 3 years. The price was very reasonable. The staff was very well informed and seemed to have as much empathy for my trees as I do. Brandon and Luke were very willing to discuss the job with me and listened to my concerns and suggestions. Any woman who has dealt with home service providers knows how rare and welcome this is.
