Highly doubt I will return. I went here to get my nails done for my birthday and was excited to try a new place out. Afterwards, I regretted even going here. Wish this could have been my new "nail spot" but unfortunately it won't be. Everything was great until the lady started working on my cuticles ... She was using the square nail block that is like sandpaper and she was basically rubbing my entire finger and tearing up the skin around my nail. She was so rough and my nails / skin around my nails looked terrible! It was painful and so uncomfortable. She then used the cuticle trimmer and took off so much skin around my nails. She ended up cutting too deep and made me bleed. She apologized and cleaned it but still proceeded to be really rough with my other nails. The actual shellac looked great and I was happy about that. But I wasn't happy when I got home and realized 5 fingers were bleeding from how rough she was with the trimmer. Pictures attached 3 days after I got them done. She gave me $5.00 off my bill, assuming because she made me bleed. Not sure if I will return. I recommend you tell the technician who is doing your nails to go easy on your cuticles and to speak up if you are uncomfortable. I wish I got the name of the lady but I didn't.

Shellac 3 days old. Looking beautiful!

LOVE this place. Clean, friendly, professional and reasonably priced. My go to mani/pedi spot...also conveniently located next to Total Wine & CVS. Starter pack for a dreamy afternoon to myself all in one parking lot! If you're in the memorial area I highly recommend checking this place out!

after my cuticles were "cleaned". The management didn't seem to care. All the manager could say was "Happy Thanksgiving!"

Less than pleased. There were no cuticle clippings. This was the "Luxe" mani. Didn't want to even imagine what my nails would look like with polish on. I had to ask the technician to stop. Management didn't care when I showed them my nails at the register. All I got was, happy Thanksgiving!

I went here today and the service was great as always! They did my pedicure and manicure (dip)- the nail tech knew exactly what i wanted based off of the photo I showed him! I've never gotten nail art here but I'm excited to try. Highly recommend booking appointment ahead of time!!!

The skin around my fingers is permanently stained, even after showers, washing, and alcohol to attempt to remove the color on my skin.

Just graduated college and moved here so I'm trying nails salons to find one I like, and my standards aren't super high. This was by far the worst manicure I have ever received. Ever. I made an appointment and arrived on time. It was for a solid color dip manicure. It took over 2.5 hours, and I was charged $50. I'm not fully convinced the technician is certified. Like the quality of this manicure LOOKS AWFUL. She STAINED the dip powder INTO MY SKIN and I work in corporate office so my fingers look PERMANENTLY DIRTY now. I legitimately have been HIDING MY HANDS IN MEETINGS. Please do not give this place a chance.

I was really big on this place for a long time. I used to being people here all the time, because they were the best. They made sure to do everything well and took their time, always. It seems that all of a sudden, their service has gone down hill. The last three times I've gotten my nails dipped here, at least one of my nails has broken within a few days. I've always sucked it up and dealt with it, but this time, when my nail broke just about 24 hours after getting my manicure, I had to say something. Binh made me an appt to get my nail fixed by Julie. I'm not ever disappointed by Julie, so imagine my surprise today. When she "fixed" it, she'd filed it to the point that it was translucent on one side. When I pointed it out, I could tell she was irritated with me. She immediately began talking in Vietnamese to her brother, Binh, obviously talking about me. So incredibly unprofessional. I've never felt so offended by here. She took to the file and filed everything off my nail (not what I expected her to do to fix it), to the point that my nail is now paper thin and pulsing in pain, and then sarcastically asked me to look at my bare nail and asked if it's okay. She finished and I left. I will not be back here again, which is really sad because it was once my go-to salon. Never again. You, single-handedly lost my business, Julie. I understand we all have "off days," but the way you spoke to me (and about me) was completely unnecessary. I will very gladly take my business elsewhere :).

It's very rare I write a review immediately upon my return home. But I wanted to get everything down before the old gray matter starts to lose the experience I just had at Royale Retreat. I've been watching this place being built in a little strip mall known as Lantern Lane Shopping Center. Why it is called Lantern Lane I have no idea because there is no street by that name around here (or at least I haven't seen it). A couple doors down from The Fresh Market, I have been very patient and curious about this new place which this side of town desperately needs. And so convenient to my house I looked expectantly at their door these past few weeks wishing the open sign was lit and today it was. The place is small but gorgeous. They have a small reception area with a gorgeously ornate Louis XVI-ish leather & gold chair. Big wooden doors with glass panel water walls separate the reception area from the main part of the spa. The room has about 8 spa chairs and 4 nail stations, a gorgeous wood built-in that hides supplies and a beautiful chandelier with wrought iron & crystals (or perhaps lighter material since it does hang above a couple spa chairs. The colors range from a caramel-café au lait to deep mahogany. Curtains draped from the ceiling gives the room dimension. The back area of the salon is for waxing and facials featuring Dermalogica facials. I was seated immediately in a very comfy spa chair that had soothing massage action (unlike some chairs that just shake the snot out of you). The technician brought out a nail color palette for me to choose a color while she went to get me a beverage. The pedicure was simply divine. My feet & legs were massaged & buffed sending me to heaven. I actually caught myself nodding off. The polish was applied and sadly the experience was over. I am so excited & happy this place opened up in my neighborhood. Please don't hate me because I'm gonna have the prettiest feet OTL, thanks to Royale Retreat.

    My lovely nails!

This had never been an issue before. 2 years later I'm still dealing with the dark scarring from them. When I reflect upon my experience here, I initially dismissed how unsanitary the room was but I feel it's worth mentioning now. I had seen all the good reviews before going, and dismissed it while I was there, and I was in and out so quickly and I was mostly hairless after, so at FIRST I was like ok well she did a good job and it was fast. However the ingrowns nightmare came for me soon after despite me doing what I always do to prevent it, and years later I'm still embarrassed by the scars it left.

It was a little hard to find but her daughter guided me there on the phone while I was lost. Initially it was a little off putting as I thought they might not be as sanitary because the wax was dark colored. I later found out she doesn't use wax but sugar. This process reduces irritation to the skin & is less painful. In my 35 years of life, I have only been waxed once when I was 19 for a pool party. I vowed never to do it again because of all the pain & skin irritation I experienced afterwards. There was minimal pain & absolutely no skin issues after this procedures. I was in & out in less than 20mins. Highly recommend, especially for avid waxers. ENTER FREELY, they've been Approved:)

After looking for a new nail salon I tried this place because I frequent memorial city mall. I have…read morepretty much gone the gamut as far as nail service at this salon...acrylic and mainly dip. I get basic no frill pedicures. Didn't like acrylic nails because once that acrylic nail starts lifting it is very uncomfortable, almost painful, and unsanitary. I get different vibes from this place depending on who does my nails. Some are more attentive to detail than others. Some make you feel more relaxed and comfortable than others. Cathy appears to be a little older and more mature than most of the techs...she is great...and appears in high demand. There's one that walks around in outfits and short skirts that look too young for her, kind of flippant demeanor. I've detected what I considered 'dismissive' or 'patronizing' attitudes with some...which makes my 'racism' antenna start beeping. This is a no frills salon...no lotion and hand massages that make you feel 'finished' and beautiful when you leave. Same for pedi unless you get a special pedi...or the right tech. I tip every time but on one occasion I didn't have cash and the tech 'instructed' me to 'bring cash next time'. This salon is 'just okay'....Also note: yesterday 12/11/25 I got a dip manicure where the tech put my hands in a bowl and poured polish remover in it ...about three fourths of my fingers were immersed in the remover...to remove old polish. My fingers were very dry after completion of the manicure...I have been using Vaseline on my hands to alleviate the dryness since the manicure. My hands feel slightly less dry but the residual dryness from having my fingers in that polish remover is still there. I DON'T THINK THIS IS A HEALTHY PRACTICE AS MOST REMOVERS CONTAIN FORMALDEHYDE!!! I SHOULD NOT HAVE ALLOWED IT!!! IF A TECH TRIES IT...DO NOT LET THEM!!!

About a year ago this location was bought by a new owner and they started making changes. It's taken about a year, and I'm finally over it and making my final decision and reviewing. First issue, when the new owner came around she let go many of the seasoned employees and all of the waxers that I was familiar with were replaced or left. Most of the new staff were friendly (some had major attitude issues) but it was hard to find someone I really liked (gotta feel pretty comfortable with someone in order for them to be touching around in my private areas). Just recently after a year of trying to find a good provider, it seems there has been another mass exodus of employees and everyone is new again. New isn't bad, but inexperience is. I've now seen 4 different girls and all of their wax techniques are different. Some use HUGE strips and some you can tell are rushing. Every time I leave, I'm in throbbing pain and the area that was waxed is very tender. This is not something that use to happen in the past. But now, this past year under new ownership, I don't think I've left feeling 100% satisfied about a wax once. Secondly, it seems that they are cutting costs and corners in some of the most ridiculous places. They switched the pre-wax wipes to these garbage wipes that are so flimsy they rip when you try to use them. The draping paper towels they use are smaller and more see through as well. It's little things that once you've been coming to a business for years, you notice when they change, and especially when they change for the worse. Lastly, three times in a row now when I arrive for my appointment during business hours, the front door is locked and no one is at the front desk to notice to open the door for me. I have to call the number and ask to be let in. This location is not in a sketchy part of town and there is absolutely no reason for the front door of an establishment to be locked during business hours. If you want to have the front door locked, then there should be a team member at the front ready to open the door at all times. Customer should not have to stand outside and wait to be let in after they call. I am not planning on canceling my membership, but I might try out a different location that's not owned by this person. I use to love Waxing the City and would rave about how great the membership was. I wouldn't recommend this location to anyone now.
