Where to start... Due to the great reviews we thought we found a great spot, but it fell apart the moment we sat down. First they tell my wife and I that they no longer sell liquor as of two weeks ago, but drinks were still on the menu which had not been updated. I heard them explain this to almost every customer AFTER they tried ordering drinks. Then, the buffet which is clearly advertised on all of their marketing, has also been shut down. These couple of issues were unfortunate but fine, I can deal with no drink and no buffet. But then the food came out and my Chicken Tikka plate was dry and chewie. My wife's food caused her... Bathroom issues... Which she thought may have been unrelated, but after reheating the food at home she had the same issues. What seemed like a nice Indian place turned out to be terrible at nearly every turn. read more

This place is a mixed bag. The basic Indian dishes are safe (chicken tika masala, curry dishes, etc). Their salads and starters are flavorless, embarrassingly presented (the cucumber salad was slices of cucumber on a plate. Really - just that). Had to beg for some type of flavoring and manage to wrangle 2 lemons and plain vinegar after some effort. Never have visited and Indian place with a flavorful "kachumber" salad. It's a staple. Staff thought it was odd we even asked for some type of dressing. Anyway, the apps and salad stay away. Also be prepared for slow service. Waited nearly 40 minutes for basic dishes. Waitress surfer nice. Said they were short staffed but what appeared to be the manager and even kitchen staff were socializing and not particularly interested in speeding up the cooking. The lunch buffet at Royal India was fantastic, and their food is amazing! This is the place to go for Indian food at a decent price for the lunch buffet. The decor is sleek and classy. It's not a run down place, so it's a looker of a restaurant. Perfect for a biz lunch for two, three, four, something on the small side. I have not tried them when they weren't having their buffet, so I can't comment there. read more

We recently gave Royal Indian a second try for dinner this time. We had lamb vindaloo and Kadai paneer. The onions in the Kadai could of been cooked longer. The onion kulcha (naan) was very good. I've never been to an Indian restaurant that charges for mint chutney, tamarind and hot sauce but they do. Chai tea as good. The staff were wonderful and dinner was much better than buffet. First review: Most of my meals out are for Indian food. I travel extensively so I'm not just rating this on local Indian restaurants. I'd like to give this place 2 1/2 stars. Good mint chutney, boring tamarind sauce. Pancake flavored naan not very good. Coconut tofu too sweet no spice, pork vindaloo and chicken korma were okay. Over cooked possibly deep fried eggplant and onion dish with no sauce was okay. Fish - think fish sticks. Dal lentils were the best dish of the day. Overall I'd say okay food, nice slick decor and expensive. $11.95 for mediocre buffet $3.95 with $1.00 refills for chai tea - which is usually included at most buffets. Visiting from SF. I didn't have the highest of expectations for an Indian restaurant in Eugene. However this place really surprised me. Their tandoori roti was amazing. I even came back the next day to pick up more to take home. Dal makhni and kadai chicken were also amazing. This place also has a nice clean upscale feel. Run by Punjabis so you know the food will be flavorful and it's not just overly laden with cream. Will be back!!! read more

The ambience is definitely wanting and the food at least lunch options were few. Served in tin or some metal tasting partitioned container that you would expect to get at a community center. Being from California and eating Indian food all the time, I didn't have high hopes for Indian food in Oregon but this was pretty good. I had the butter chicken, salmon tandoori, rice, and pistachio crème brûlée. The butter chicken wasn't what I was expecting but it was good and the perfect level of spicy, where it wasn't overbearing. I loved the salmon tandoori because it was so perfectly cooked. I was surprised about the crème brûlée in a good way. It wasn't too sweet but was nice and creamy. It's a little pricey but I'd eat here again. read more

Best Indian food in Eugene!!!!! The shrimp korma was amazing! The tofu coconut curry had tons of fresh and tasty veggies, but it definitely needed to be ordered spicier than mild. The seared tuna was a good quantity but we didn't get the best cut of fish so hoping it was just an off time. The mozzarella stuffed naan was super cheesy and did not disappoint. Our server was really good and helped us get exactly what we would be happy with...great guy! Wish there was a combination that was available for dinner since we wish we could have had more dishes! We'll definitely be coming back to try other dishes and that creme brulee that we were too full to try. Yay korma cashew curry! read more

The best Indian buffet I've been to. I've been quite a few all over the US and even in a few other countries. Tandoori chicken was very authentic and juicy. tikka was terrific. Pork and shrooms was perfect. Fish fry was very good. The veggi dish was very good, but the veggies were more tender than I like them. Tender naan. Lots of great selections, all was hot. Service was very nice, always refilling my water. Very nice place, perfect for date night or family lunches. Can't wait to return. Buffet was $11.95 and well worth it. Had to try the lunch buffet. Loved the tandoori chicken especially since it wasn't pink. Loved the bread porka (sorry about the spelling), the veggie korma, the pork and mushroom. The sauce was a little thin for me, but not a deal breaker at all. The real test for me will be to try the actual menu items. I am a big Lamb Vindaloo fan as well as a good Tika Masala. I will be interested in seeing if the good flavor profiles that were present for the lunch buffet will transfer over to their menu as I expect. This restaurant is new so there are all new booths, dinner ware, floors etc, nothing that has been around for a few years and has that worm in look. I think based on the location it's something that can do well with the revitalization of the VR Mall. Look forward to trying various items in the future. read more

An excellent open. The Tikka Masala, tandoori chicken and jasmine rice were all very good. Ingredients were fresh and the spice was balanced if not a little "too Americanized" (lightly seasoned). And the water is filtered!! Thank you !! This is the only Indian Restaurant that I know of with a lunch buffet that continues past 2pm! For $11.95 I believe you'll be happily filled up and you'll get to try your old favorites in addition to number of new and exciting Indian dishes. I'll be back. read more

Waited an hour and and forty five for our food and then when it was finally ready they accidentally gave it to someone else and then told us they would need to remake the order. In the meantime lots of other people who came in after us got orders and left while we were still waiting. Worst service we have experienced in the entire city of Eugene. Came here for dinner with my best friend. We started out with the Samosa Chaat. I could have eaten this appetizer all night. It is potatoes and peas pastry topped with chick peas, tamarind, yogurt and a cilantro mint sauce. OMG!! Delicious. We practically inhaled that and almost ordered a second one. Truly a must have if you come here. We decided to share the Goat Curry. It is goat bone meat (was a bit boney for me). I am not fond of small bones but the meat was very tender and the flavor was good. However, we ordered spicy and warning...Spicy is just that. My nose was running and my tongue was burning but that did not stop me because it was delicious, It was made with a zesty sauce with ginger, garlic, onion and spices. SPICES = Spicy. They do ask you what level of spice you desire. Truly a must try if you are in the Eugene area. I wish I had not moved from here so I could make this a regular stop of mine. (I am in town often enough that I still can, and I will). The Masala Chai is a great warm comforting drink on a cold night. Their buffet is well spread in terms of variety and ala cart has a lot of variety and option to choose from. Their Mocktails and drinks are a definite worth trying. So far, this is the best Indian food we've tasted in Eugene. We've had the Aloo Gobi, Chicken Tikka, Vegetable Masala, Butter chicken, mango chutney and samosas. All were delicious and the spices, aroma, and preparation of the dishes make them stand-out with a little more finesse, flavor-wise, compared to other Indian restaurants in town. This place is a hidden gem. I had chicken korma and my partner had chicken tikka masala and both dishes were outstanding. Eugene is so fortunate to have this excellent Indian food. The flavors are like nothing you've tasted before. I live in Portland and will be back whenever I'm in Eugene.
