Hands down, my favorite Indian restaurant in Eugene-Springfield. Recommended dishes: chicken tikka masala, paneer saag, tandoori chicken, samosas and pakora of any flavor, naan of any kind. This Indian food lights up my soul. The flavors are an experience of their own. Yummmm is all I can say. My one request is that they bring back this little dessert they had that was so good. *Please bring back the chocolate panna cotta?* It's similar to a delicious little chocolate mousse. When I found out they took it off the menu, I was so sad because it was one of my favorites. Other than that this place is awesome and I love it. A bit more expensive than some Indian restaurants in town, but I think that the extra cost is worth the extra quality and taste you get. Good atmosphere. It's usually easy to get a nice private table or booth away from other people. The service for me has always been good, and I've eaten here many times. I have not had a chance to try a lot of things on the menu because I usually stick with my favorites listed above, but I would love to branch out and try some new things here in the future. read more

Decided to try this place out for the 1st time! It has a semi-romantic & comfy atmosphere w/ low lighting & cushioned booths. The tomato curry was delicious. It has a taste to it & I had chicken in mine. Naan bread also is very good. Naan bread is soft like flatbread. We had ours stuffed with cheese and potato. Really disappointed in this place. I had been here a few times before (pre-COVID) for the buffet, which was generally okay. (Honestly though, it varied a lot depending on what day you went. Some days the buffet was good, and some days it was absolutely awful. The naan bread was always hard and unappetizing.) Well, I recently returned to this restaurant for a dine-in lunch and I don't think I'll EVER go back. 1) TERRIBLE customer service! Firstly, I arrived at 11am (when they open) and the "open" sign wasn't on. However the door was unlocked, and I stepped inside to a seemingly empty restaurant. Someone must have heard me speaking because then a server (with neon blue hair) emerged out from the back and stated in an annoyed tone of voice "WE OPEN AT 11." My husband looked at his watch, and it showed that it was 10:58am. Okay, so we arrived a whole 2 minutes early, but WHY was the door unlocked?! The server then proceeded to treat us like it was a HUGE burden to help us. She told us to sit anywhere, so we did. Eventually she got around to giving us menus, but she was not friendly. 2) SLOW service. Do NOT go here if you are immediately hungry or on a time crunch. As stated before, I arrived at the restaurant at opening; I was the ONLY customer in the restaurant at the time. From the time that I ordered to the time I got my meal, 40 MINUTES had passed. I was about to leave when the food finally got to the table. 3) SMALL PORTIONS. We had ordered the two "lunch specials". (There is a veggie option and a meat option.) This place has the most unimpressive lunch special I've ever seen. It's mostly rice, with a few little plops of various sauces. (See picture) The trays that the food comes on looks like something out of an elementary school. 4) Low-quality food; Tastes meh. The food itself is not great. Some dishes are better than others, but overall this is NOT a good Indian food restaurant. Special Note: I've heard GREAT things about Evergreen Indian Cuisine (on 7th Ave in Eugene). The food is tasty, but the portions are small and very expensive. I have not tried their all you can eat buffet lunch, but I looked at the little signs of what they serve for it, and there's a very good variety of foods that sound good to me). The price for that is around $18 though, so I recommend being very hungry if you go. The staff is very nice there. read more

Stopped here for dinner on our way to Portland. We thought of stopping for a quick break and planning for some snack. But the dinner was ready and really liked everything about this place. This place was busy around 6pm. But hardly waited to get seated. Greeted by the gentleman at the counter and he lead us to a comfortable corner area. The food and drinks menu were already on the table. Menu looked interesting with the options. Though some of the items were marked a spicy, but didn't think it would be. Ordered Naan, Paneer Tikka Masala and Tandoori Chicken plate. There was a considerable wait time for food. The Tandoori chicken plate was the first dish to arrive. It was mouthwatering - fresh from the oven, well marinated and deep cooked. Spice level was bang on. The meat was tender and juicy. Loved the flavor of it. The Naan and the curry was followed. The curry came with a side bowl of rice as well. The Naans were soft and the paneer tikka masala was a perfect combo for it. This is a house special curry and must say it was so flavorful. We enjoyed it. Their menu looks fabulous. Especially the grilled plate section. So many varieties. Judging by the quality of the Tandoori chicken, I expect them to be really good too. There are some interesting options on their starters list as well. You don't often find Panna Cotta makes to an Indian Restaurant's dessert menu. We saw that and wanter to try it. Well, that was a very good choice. The presentation itself was impressive and must say it was luscious! Super happy that we opted to dine in here, and even more delightful about the choices we made there. The service was top notch. The ambience of this place is supreme. Try it out. Cheesy, which was a little bit of a new twist, but since cheese is one of my favorite food groups it was working. Ran out of tap IPA? so the Taj Mahal tall boy had to pull me thru. This USED to be my favorite place on a Friday night. Tastes are on point. I really enjoy the Goat Curry and the Biryani with jackfruit. BUT (and we all know anything before a but means nothing) tonight is a disappointment. Ordered three items for delivery. My biryani (so excited), cauliflower Manchurian, and chicken koorma. Excitement is over. I guess I will be eating a carrot and celery tonight because I didn't get all of my order. No biryani. How hard is it to look into a lunchbag sized container and make sure there are three meals. I have defended this place so many times to friends. Shame on me. Guess they were right. Ate at Royal India last night (11-9-2024) Five of us. We ordered five different dinners and shared them amongst all of us. I went for my usual standby of lamb tikka masala, which was awesome. COVID: they were spot on all cleanliness, social distancing, wearing mask to making sure everything is up to date... Food: Samosa, Gobi Manchurian, Paneer Tikka Masala, Malai Kofta, Butter Naan and Garlic Naan and Basmati Jeera rice. I came here for dinner tonight, a bit early in order to avoid the Friday night rush. Ambience: A bit on the cold side- white marble-esque Formica table tops with hard edge corners to rest your forearms on- almost an old-school diner. Not great lighting- possibly older compact fluorescents. Service: Very warm welcome by the host who was quite engaging. Server was pleasant at first, but mostly perfunctory. Food: Possibly the most flavorful Tikka Masala sauce I have ever tasted (and I've traveled a bit). Absolutely delicious. The chicken was about half the quantity I expected when compared to (many) other Indian restaurants where I have ordered this dish. Charge me another $2 and put another chicken thigh in the pot already. Garlic nan was excellent. Raita was good but not great. Enough tikka sauce left over to take home and cook a thigh or two. Value: The above with two beers came to $50 with tip for one person. The core of the meal was chicken, and that was perhaps 4 ounces of meat. I left without feeling the benefit of eating out- in fact I left wishing I had gone to the grocery and cooked at home. So pretty disappointed, all in all. Solid Indian food! I ordered the tofu coconut curry, which was excellent and flavorful. They have options for varying levels of spices (mild, medium, and hot), which was nice. I highly recommend "medium" though! The portions are generous and I had plenty left over for the next day. I also ordered naan and a samosa. The samosa tasted like it had been microwaved (it was ice cold in the center) but it wasn't half bad. Similarly, the naan didn't quite taste like naan bread, and was very greasy. So, all in all, I'd steer clear of their appetizers, but their main dishes are very good. The waiters and waitresses are very accommodating and nice, and the restaurant appears clean. read more

I eat dinner at Royal India more often than I'd like to admit. That being said, it tastes amazing and it really is a relatively healthy restaurant choice in my opinion! My favorite starter on the menu is the Manchurian Cauliflower (it's also vegan but trust me that does not take away from the taste). I would almost compare it to a Vegan Orange Chicken but way better! I don't typically enjoy Orange Chicken but this was too good to pass up! I've tried a few different entrees but the best is seriously the Chicken Tikka Masala - it's super flavorful and not a strong tomato taste either. I like to get the 2nd or 3rd level for spice which adds such a nice kick. On the side be sure to get the Stuffed Mozarella Cheese Naan and then dip it into the tikka masala sauce - seriously could eat this meal everyday! Freshest Indian food I've found in Eugene. Menu has a few non-traditional offerings (like chile rellenos?!?), which really worried me on my first visit, but I went on a friend's recommendation and have now become a very dedicated regular. I just stick to the authentic dishes. Pricey, so I tend to go for lunch and lunch is always excellent. Daily specials are always served as a thali and I rarely order anything other than that dish of the day. Never disappointed. Fresh ingredients, seems like a mix of homemade and store bought chutneys and pickles. Best naan in town! Excellent service, nice, relaxing atmosphere. Don't hesitate to try. read more

We ordered the samosa chaat, tandoori chicken, butter masala chicken, and stuffed naan. The food was so good. We kept talking about it the next day. The restaurant was also extremely clean, and had good ambiance. With that I would have given it a 5, but the service was not good. After we ordered the waitress didn't come back to check on us. Our waters were empty for at least 15 minutes before we were able to flag her down and ask for more. Another one walked passed us often, but I guess since we weren't her original table it didn't matter. This was some of the worst "Indian" food I've had in years. Apart from one server, the service was horrible, like you're invisible if you know what I mean. The tandoori chicken had never seen a tandoor or any spices and was as tough as leather. The goat curry was overly oily and white I expected bones I didn't think the remainder would be gristle. The lunch special would've been ok but I was served a chicken thigh that - no exaggeration, was like a rock with sharp edges. How this came out of a restaurant kitchen I'll never know. I complained quietly to the sweet waitress, asked for another thigh, and she went to tell the kitchen. I continued to eat the rest of my lunch. 12 minutes later the person in charge came to the table. She brought a chicken leg and bristled when I pointed to the "rock." "Yes, so I brought this," She said, frowning at me and pointing to the leg. No apology. I left the waitress a 20% tip. Not her fault. I see that they subtracted $1.25 for the thigh. Woohoo.
