When I head up to Northern Virginia or out to the mountains, I always make a stop at Roy Rogers for their strawberry shortcake. It's made with a buttery biscuit, ice cream, and strawberry syrup, and it's just as delicious as I remember from years ago. My friend ordered the chicken. He said it was okay -- not the best, not the worst -- but it wasn't fresh and hot when we got it. There was only one worker trying to handle the drive-thru and the inside orders at the same time, so I'm sure that played a part. The fries weren't hot either. For me though, I only go there for the strawberry shortcake, and that's still worth the trip. The restaurant was clean, the bathrooms were clean, and the service was decent. If you've never tried it, give the strawberry shortcake a shot and see how you like it. read more

It was clean, and our order was made quickly and competently. I was glad to see they still have the Fixin's Bar. Hadn't seen a Roy's in years so decided to go cause I remember how they use to be. Walk in staff greeted you with a smile and were very friendly . Ordering process was quick and easy and food extremely fresh and fixin bar on point was a little messy though in the pump your own sauce area (just needed to be touched up wasn't totally discussing or anything like that). Got the Texas Pete Spicy Chicken Sandwich and the chicken has the right amount of heat and is super juicy and the bite on the chicken is super crunchy just how it's supposed to be. Plus I love how they ask if you want to upsize your fries and drink separately not forcing you to just upsize the whole meal for one or the other. That's how it should be. We traveled from DE to Pittsburgh on 12/22/25 and stopped at the N. Somerset Rest Area on the PA Turnpike at 7 pm. First time we ate at a Roy Rogers. Service was OK. For $13.99, we ordered a meal deal with a 1/4 pound cheeseburger, fries and soda and a second $13.99 meal deal with a chicken sandwich, fries and soda. The kaiser rolls were small, the chicken piece was thin, the fries were small in size (called regular online.) Really not much food for about $29.99 for 2 adults. The fries were freshly made, hot and crispy. We were hungry so were disappointed. Next time, we will pass that rest stop exit slowly and get off at the exit immediately after that one where we could access many other fast food places and probably get more food for the money. We will probably get off at regular exits instead of rest areas elsewhere also and look for singular fast food restaurants also as they have a better value. read more

Two times now I have had Roy Rogers Front Royal cater for my two business locations, a breakfast and a lunch. The GM Ellery and the Asst. GM Joshua were nothing short of amazing both times. Both thanked me for the business and were genuinely appreciative for the large order. I was trying to figure out how to get both locations served without the food getting cold etc. Joshua actually delivered the entire order to my second location 24 miles away from their store while I delivered to the first to make sure everyone had hot, fresh food. read more

Went in to Roy's for a quick lunch and we were quite expressed with (right off the bat) how quick the service was. We were greeted by a very friendly server, We placed our order and before we got our drinks our lunch was ready. Our burgers were fresh, The roast beef was extremely juicy, And the strawberry short cake was the bomb !!! Our server even came back by our table to see if everything was okay. This was a big mistake. The double cheese burger was Luke warm and the cheese was not all the way melted. The Fry's we returned because they were cold. We live in Northern Virginia and always plan our drive to Deep Creek Lake to allow us to have lunch at this Roy Rogers. The manager is awesome--I did not catch his name despite that he wore a name tag. The drive thru was do slow we watched half a dozen people walk in for takeout and leave before we got our food. We thought they must be cooking it fresh to take this long. We thought wrong. The cheeseburger was cold, the fries were even colder and mushy. The roast beef sandwich was just as cold. We asked for fixin cups for both and never got them. My husband and I were passing through from Philadelphia to Fairfield Friday night (08/30/19) and stopped here near closing time. I haven't been to Roy Roger's since I was little and was unsure what I wanted, needless to say I changed my order 3 times. The gentleman that took our order was a manager named Luke, he was such a sweet guy. My husband was aggravated with me for bothering them but Luke was awesom, the fries were fresh and hot as well as the chicken. On our way home today (09/02/19) we happened to stop at the same place; Luke was there (we could see him running around filling and cooking all with a smile). I had to tell him how awesome he was Friday. Haven't had Roys in a long time so my gf and I stopped in here at the one in Front Royal off Rt 66. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the place was a mess. Floor looked like it hadn't been swept in 2 days and every table had something on it, a spoon, salt packets, one had a used mask in the table. Place was plain nasty. We stop here on our way through several times a year and it has been great every time, at least 15 visits over a 2 year time period. Margie is the friendly Manager and whatever she is doing is working. The staff are also polite and friendly. I have been around the drive thru at this Front Royal, VA, location several times over the past several years. I would have never thought I would be a Roy Rogers fan. But I am. First off their Roast Beef is best of any fast food or sit-down restaurant that I have ever eaten. Fresh. Beef. I think they even put a sticker on there that is is real grade a american beef. And they are correct. They give you a free "fixin cup" if you ask which is lettuce, onion, tomato and pickle. It is separate and you put it in your sandwhich. Chick-fil-a etc charge extra for tomato which is rididulous. Secondly their sides. All that I have had are great. Great mac n cheese. Excellent mash potatoes and gravy. Fantastic cole slaw. Delicious baked beans. Thirdly their fried chicken is yummy. It is not too spicy hot or spicy upset-stomach like a couple of the other chicken-only joints (ie KFC and Popeye's). It is good fried chicken and I have only recently become a fan of fried chicken myself. Thirdly, their ice cream tastes like real ice cream made from real milk etc. I love Roy's. I eat here every so often as I like the drive out there and back, the food, and they have great parking with a great view. I even get my fav DC radio stations on the radio while there. Also the people there are pleasant. I have NEVER to this day had a rude experience with one of them and they appear to change every so often for some reason. However, this is just my drive-thru experience. I have never stepped foot inside this restaurant. It seems to be very busy inside though. The only complain I have is the long wait in the drive-thru. It is long sometimes. But if they keep doing the rest right I am not going to complain too loudly about that. read more

Most of the Roy Rogers restaurants closed in the mid-Atlantic region about 20 years ago. It was good to see one open not too long ago in Front Royal. Been to it several times since and have come away pleased. Nobody makes a better roast beef sandwich than Rogers. A nice change from the big three burger chains. read more

Earlier this year, a new Roy Rogers restaurant opened in Front Royal. I remember enjoying the food there as a teenager when "Roy's" were all over the D.C. area. Needless to say, I was psyched about having a local Roy's in the area. Double-R- Bar burgers and their Fried Chicken were always good. However, it did not take long for Roy's to bring me back to reality, that the quality of food really depends on the management/staff, and not the recipe. On my first outing to Roy's shortly after it opened, I ordered a Double-R-Bar burger, a holster of fries, and a soft drink. The burger was cooked well, but was extremely greasy, to the point the bun was soggy. The fries were soggy and undercooked as well, not a good experience. Nevertheless, what I really craved from my teenaged years, was Roy's famous fried chicken. The first time I ordered the chicken, it was good, but not excellent. The side orders were mashed potatoes/gravy, biscuits and coleslaw. The sides were about average. The second time I ordered the same chicken meal, I was on my way home from work (4:30 pm), and placed the order through the drive through window. The quality was not so good, the chicken tasted like it had been cooked hours earlier and had been sitting around, the sides were again OK. At a price of nearly $20.00 I was disappointed. I attempted to order the same meal a few more times on my way home from work. However, each time the chicken was not fresh. I wished the same quality was still there, but it is not. When Roy's first opened, the restaurant was consistently crowded, but now the patronage seems to be way down. I suspect the inconsistent food quality is a factor. 12/3/2011 Update, I attempted another run at Roy Roger's for a chicken meal. This time, the chicken was acceptably fresher, but again there still are issues with the staff. I placed my order for the same chicken meal as noted above, which normally comes with two breasts, legs, backs, and wings, and four biscuits. However, the teen filling my order, proceeded to give me only three biscuits, which looked stale. Luckily, after voicing my concern, the manager who seemed to be very nice, intervened and supplied my order with four oven fresh biscuits. The other sides, I again rate about average (good). When I brought my order home, I oddly discovered, that I ran into the same issue I did at another restaurant in Front Royal. The order was short one chicken breast, instead we received three chicken backs. Unfortunately, neither myself nor my wife, really like dark meat. Apparently, a class in identifying chicken parts could be useful to some of the restaurant workers around Front Royal. So there you have it, I may visit Roy's in the future, I would rate it slightly better than say McDonalds, but I have learned my lesson about carry out. My next visit will be eat in only. read more
