Po' Greens was phenomenal! I don't say that very often about a BBQ joint since i'm from Memphis, TN the pork BBQ capital of the USA. I had seen the place a few times when I was driving by but this day in particular the aroma of perfectly smoked BBQ rolled right out the smoke stack of the Grill and into my car window and it slapped me right in the taste buds! Speaking of buds, I rounded up my side kick and we headed over to Po' Greens to give them a whirl. Boy am I glad we did! The service was extremely friendly and the food was amazing! The portions were huge and I left stuffed and had to get a "To go" box to take my leftovers. I had the Brisket Plate and I had half of my buddies Ribs too. The ribs fell right off the bone just like they should. The Brisket was cooked just right too and it practically melted in my mouth. Seasoned perfectly and the sauce was on point! The sides were amazing! I had the mashed potatoes and gravy and it was cooked from scratch, none of that canned crap. The Green Beans were something to write home about as well... cooked just right and had some Brisket chunks in them for taste! I went to Po's and I left crying for Mo. However, I had to be rolled out because I couldn't stop eating. Great family ran BBQ joint that puts their heart and soul into their cooking. A MUST TRY in the Front Royal area. Great customer service, as soon as I walked in they apologized because the food was going to be 20 mins because they just got done with a catering order. I applaud them for staying open and working through it. It did not take 20 minutes it took maybe 10 at the most. I got the pit master box so I could try a little about everything. The ribs fell right off the bone, the chicken had a nice grill taste and the pulled pork was good. My friend got the brisket and that might have been the best brisket I have tasted. Can't say enough good things about Po Green's! During COVID you have to order online or over the phone, and the staff will bring your food to your car. I've been tried shrimp po' boy with Mac and cheese and collard greens. The shrimp was cooked to order, and everything was the perfect temperature/texture. It's been almost a week and I still can't stop thinking about the pulled pork sandwich here! This unassuming restaurant in Front Royal has some of the best food around. I stopped by for dinner on a recent weekend trip to Shenandoah. Note that as of late March 2021, they are open for curbside pickup ONLY (and maybe delivery? Check with them directly). You cannot enter the restaurant and place an order - you must place the order online or via phone and they will bring it out to you. Thinking that I would be able to place an order inside the restaurant, I pulled up and was quickly greeted by a friendly employee who came outside. She was super nice and helpful. She explained the situation to me and took my order and payment from my car. The pulled pork sandwich was absolutely amazing! I smothered it with sauce and slaw and the flavors were perfect. I've had a lot of BBQ, and this was the best I've ever had. A week later, I'm still thinking about how I can make the trip to Front Royal just to eat at this restaurant again. I visited Po Green's last night for dinner. I will preface this with I am not a person that loves BBQ, or maybe I am and I am just crazy picky? I choose this place originally for my boyfriend's birthday and we ended up not going that direction on the day. Last night we headed to Front Royal and I suggested we stop and try this place for his post-birthday celebration. We arrived a little after 7:30. They close at 8p. I didn't realize that at the time. You wouldn't know that either as they were as friendly as if they just opened. Like you just stepped into your best friend, Aunt, Grandma's house, kind of friendly. We told them we had not been there before and asked for suggestions. Of course, it is all good. I ended up choosing the Beef Brisket meal with 2 sides (green beans and coleslaw) with cornbread. My boyfriend (let's just start calling him Matt Burgwald, he choose the Pork BBQ. We were told they sell out of it daily. Along with mashed potatoes/gravy with coleslaw and the cornbread. First- the cornbread is like crack! I've actually never had crack so maybe I should say it was made in heaven with honey and is Amazeballs!! Next, the brisket was perfection. Did I mention I am a self-declared non-lover of BBQ? I am currently moving my budgeted $$ at the grocery store to just picking up brisket from them weekly. Holy, holy it is amazing. Little crispy edgest with melt in your mouth perfection. The slaw is the perfect complement too, a must with their BBQ. Finally, you can't even beat the price and amount of food received. In fact, I ate this just now for "brunch". I normally fast until like 3pm. I was so full last night, but this morning woke up craving it so I had it as a breakfast-lunch combo (brunch). This is my new go-to BBQ joint. Stopped in on a Fry-day on my way through Front Royal. What a great place. Great food! Great staff. Very friendly and make you feel right at home. We noticed this location newly opened early summer 2019, as the previous business in it's place, had been a Carribbean-Jamaican Jerk-Chicken venue that 'went under' at some point in 2018. We did stop and have a selection of "Po Green's" BBQ items, with sides, in July 2019 which were very good. The owners clearly are invested in 'doing BBQ the right way' as they mentioned! Friendly, fast service, at reasonable pricing and more food than one can eat. May need a take-out box... Stopped at this location on 8/3/2019 (Saturday) during mid-day business hours (sign on door) noticed they were not open some moving boxes visible in the windows! My wife and I were hiking at sky Meadow park last weekend. After our arduous walk we decided to get something to eat and found a barbecue place on our GPS we drove over to Poe greens Southern food In Front Royal. When we arrived we found that our orders needed to be made verbally and that we would be getting our food at our car. They are very cautious about kovid in excellent way. We ordered the meals which included the brisket into sides I got the coloured greens and the coast law in my wife got the fried chicken wings and the Mac and cheese And everything was delicious. Edwin senior came out and told us the story about how he and his father were sharecroppers. He makes all the food from scratch except for the French fries. I would go back there again and again. The only comment I would make is that if you order barbecue ask for the sauce on the side . The reason being is that they put a lot of it on and you may not like that much but it is delicious and like everything else the sauce is homemade. read more

Very hard to find parking! We circled several times, neighbors had no parking signs in their yards, toward the end of our meal employees were moving out of spots much needed by customers. More of a takeaway set up, but very welcoming employees. Great cooking. They are new and still working out some of the kinks but I am sure they will get there. We got there an hour before closing but were warmly greeted and taken care of without being made to feel rushed. What a shining example of Virginia barbecue at its finest! It may be a small establishment, but that just means they take the time to lovingly craft your quality meal. The delectable smokehouse flavors envelop your mouth with every bite. I got the pulled pork sandwich meal with potato salad while my friend got the brisket sandwich meal with macaroni and cheese. Despite the fact that we were ravenous after hiking up a mountain all day in the rain, we could barely finish our meals! The succulently smoked meat was packed in a fresh, toasted bun and covered in tasty bbq sauce. Even the potato salad had the perfect blend of potatoes, mayo, and relish for a refreshing side. The staff there were also extra friendly with their curbside service despite the lateness of the hour (nearing closing) and the drizzle. Growing up in Texas I take my barbecue seriously, and this place is one I will frequent anytime I'm passing through Front Royal. Amazing! Delicious real home cooking! We had a full rack of smoked ribs and pulled chicken. The ribs literally fell off the bone and had a subtle Smokey taste. The pulled chicken was moist and delicious. Both had large serving sizes. For sides we got home made green beans and collards. Both had great flavor - best green beans I've had from a bbq place. We also got mashed potatoes - home made smashed red skin potatoes - and Mac and cheese. Finally, the corn bread - hot, fresh, and moist! The only down side is parking. Hubby and I happened to be in the area shopping and wanted some home cooked food. We decided on BBQ and drove here. We were greeted at the door and told that we could not enter the establishment due to Covid-19 restrictions but we could call in our order from the car and it would be brought to us. Ok, no worries! 2 guys in a pick up truck parked next to us assured us we made a good decision to eat here. My husband ordered the BBQ brisket and 1/4 Chicken dinner with/Collards and Potato Salad. I ordered the Fried Chicken wings entree w/Cabbage and potato salad only to be told they were out of whole wings. Ok, no whole wings on a Friday afternoon??? I decided on Fried Whiting. The young lady who took and brought to us our order was very pleasant and apologetic and offered a tip on a nearby park where we could sit and eat our meals. Hubby enjoyed his brisket and chicken and my fish was fried like Momma used to cook it with cornmeal. The hush puppies were slightly sweet and delicious with a crispy texture and the potato salad was homemade with plenty of flavor. The intoxicating aroma of the smoker drew me to Po Green, though I don't get 'cue often because it's so often poorly done--and that was the unfortunate case here. Perhaps today was just a bad day for the Po Green smoker but good BBQ should fall off the bone, not be dry as a bone. Smoky flavor was good, sauce was tasty if salty, but the ribs and chicken were really disappointing. Service was excellent. Slaw was tangy, cornbread moist and sweet, fries unremarkable; should have gotten collard greens because I love 'em. It may be a bit unfair to write a review after only one visit but when the stars of the show are the exact opposite of what they should be, dry rather than moist, tough rather than tender, a Yelp spanking is in order. I hope Po Green lives up to its high rating but it sure didn't for me. read more

The pulled pork and chicken was edible as were the ribs. The ribs were the best out of the meats. The sides we ordered was mac & cheese which was horrible as was the dry nasty cole slaw. Stopped by Po Green's today for take out BBQ. What a little gem! After scanning Yelp reviews, we called and placed an order for the Pit Master with Mac n Cheese and Collard Greens. For less than $30 we had WAY mor food than we could handle. Rib meat was falling off the bones and delicious. Pulled pork and pulled chicken were equally as good. We bought for lunch today, but have plenty for sandwiches tomorrow, too. Driving through on the way to Luray and saw a bbq sign, so I wanted to stop in and try this place. The meats that we ordered were not tender. I ordered a half of slab of ribs and legit had to cut it with my knife to separate the bones. It was hands down the toughest ribs I had ever eaten. The flavor was not all that good either. The fat was not rendered and was chewy. Additionally, the smoke had not penetrated the meat properly. We also ordered brisket, which again was not tender and quite chewy. The sides we ordered were ok. The onion rings were cooked to order, which I appreciate and the collard greens had a nice vinegar flavor. Stopped in while coming west with my two year old to cool off in a local stream on a hot day. Called 15 minutes before and food ready 5 min after arrival. We sat outside and they brought it out to us. Staff was so friendly that my son kept saying "where nice man" as he gnawed on his hushpuppy. They even came out twice in the extreme heat to check on us. We had half bbq chicken, collard greens, baked beans, and hushpuppies. I am from the deep south, and this was home cooking to me. Chicken was smoked just like I like it, and then sides were perfect. Might be the best greens I've ever had, and that's saying something. Well if you read my reviews of businesses you know that I am brutally honest so here we go on why I rate Po Green's the way I do. I have been driving past this place now for the past couple of months. I've notice this smoker next to the restaurant very often wafting wonderful smells toward the road and into my car tempting me in but I am driving a designated route every day so I normally have other things on my mind and don't slow down to stop in time and have gone on past wondering what I'd missed by not stopping. Today was different, before I got there I had a desire for some good barbecue chicken so I made it a point to stop and give Po's a try. OMG am I glad I stopped. I discovered what I'd been missing out on now by driving past all this time. I know everyone knows that great food is found in little hole in the wall places. This is one of those. It's a great location where they have a lot of traffic exposure. It's right on a corner but it's a small place. The seating is mostly high bar type of seating where you can sit and look out over the road. There is one lower table which I decided to take. I ordered the one piece barbecue chicken dinner which consisted of the leg and thigh combination with two sides and corn bread. I chose the collard greens and the baked barbecue beans and had an extra side of potato salad. I have to say this is some of the best comfort food I've had in a long time. The chicken was perfectly smoked and cooked. It came right off the bone with a fork and was absolutely scrumptious. The collard greens were some of the best I've ever eaten. I asked Anneise the wife part of this business how they got the stem of the collards so damn tender and she explained it's a 9 hours cooking process. Now I know what I'm doing wrong at home. The barbecue beans could not have been better and I savored every mouth full. The Cornbread is homemade and was very good. I wish I could find cornbread where it's made with fresh corn kernels in it and with a bit of a sweet flavor but I've only had that one place over in Maryland but this was very good cornbread. I saved room for homemade peach cobbler which finished a very pleasant meal. The folks who run this are very pleasant and know what they are doing for sure. Not only do they barbecue chicken they also have ribs, brisket, pulled pork and a host of daily specials and sandwiches along with a very nice choice of sides. I understand that they make homemade blackberry cobbler on the week-end. One of the patrons there mentioned it and I over heard him asking about purchasing an entire batch. My ribs were dry and not even close to falling off the bone. The pulled pork was pretty good but it was just that, pulled pork. I didn't see any bark mixed in or get any BBQ flavor. The sauce was nice though. The baked beans and mac were both really great sides, better than most BBQ joints. I would have given this place a 3 star but I can tell BBQ is not their main focus (pretty small smoker outside) and judging from their sides, their southern food must be pretty good.
