    Brisket with beans and greens
    Jesse V.

Best brisket in Winchester! $16 for this brisket (see attached photo) and two sides - Bargain of the decade! Hands down best lunch in town. Check their Facebook for where they are setup at and go get some! There are only two places in Virginia you can get brisket like this and I ain't tellin' you the other one!

    Smothered mac and cheese

We got some amazing BBQ smothered Mac and cheese today. The pork and beef are amazing. The meat is moist the BBQ sauce is delicious and the Mac and cheese is prefect. Topped with crispy onions and its perfect fall food. They staff is so kind and friendly! Check them out.

Smoked oxtail with Mac n cheese and Cole slaw

I had to leave a review because not only was the owner nice enough to wait for me but the smoked oxtail was out of this world and they were full of meat. I came 10 min before closing to the wrong location and the owner was nice enough to wait for me to get to the right location. It a a food truck so not much of an ambiance but definitely worth getting some good smoked meats. I'll definitely be coming back wherever they are parked.

I said it once but I'll say it again. This is the best bbq spot in Winchester, VA. Service is always warm and inviting and the food is 10/10!!! I always find myself rushing to get a plate when I get off work on Tuesdays and Thursdays!

Great unexpected BBQ! The mac and cheese hits home! So does the pork belly! Come support local!

The bbq is amazing and the owner came out to car to ask what we thought. Get there early - they are busy and run out of items.

We watched a number of clients who came in for pickup; we noted that they were all greeted and served with enthusiasm. We enjoyed a brisket combo with house-made fries, all of which were delicious. Prices are well-considered, not too high, especially considering the quality of product we received. We enjoyed learning about the championship pit masters. The music was hard-driving rock, played over the sound system; no live music was available on this particular Friday. We recommend Hog-It-Up for your next outing with family or friends!

This could've been resolved had he reached out privately to mitigate this issue but instead decided to lack any sense of professionalism or respect to other people who do not align with his beliefs. He has stalked my Facebook to source information about me. My girlfriend (who is also a military veteran with active combat service) is a Cajun girl at heart (born and raised in Louisiana) and even she was wondering why it was so dry and bland, we ended up having to season it ourselves just to get any taste out of it. We were provided some mystery syrup that even she couldn't tell what it was. The sampler itself was very mediocre in presentation for a barbecue restaurant. The brisket had to have been the worst thing to the entire sampler, it was tough, drier than roadkill on 81, and had absolutely no flavor or smoke to it. Just looking at it we could both tell it wasn't moist or smoked. The chicken was depressing in its own way and felt like a poor man's meal than what bbq should taste like, it was just as dry as the brisket and had no texture or flavor. The pork was disappointing, sure it fell apart like any pulled pork should but for it to lack any flavor was also not surprising either. The pink slaw was questionable on its own and certainly off putting to say the least. I've tried numerous spots in the dmv that were better tasting, better quality, and had staff that did make you fear for your safety after a bad review. I've added my review, his response, and my girlfriend's review as well (google maps).

We wanted to fill up on gas before "going over the mountain". GPS led us to the New Star Market/Shell Gas Station, which was only about a mile off I-81 and directly on our route. The self-service gas area was a bit congested, but we squeezed behind a parked pickup to get to a pump. Gas prices were excellent at $2,75/gallon. I went to check out the small convenience store. They seemed to have pretty much everything that a traveler might want or need, including snacks, a deli, and more. Many other reviewers have mentioned BBQ, and an outdoor sign, advertised this as well. Somehow, my husband and I both missed this -- probably because it wasn't lunch time for us yet! We'll have to check it out again upon our return. The cashier was friendly and polite. Restrooms were outside and clean. .

For the amount we paid them I could have personally provided a lot more food and it would have been hot and yes the food he brought was cold. We were shorted rolls and coleslaw and they brought 2 small pans of meat. I paid $1500 and an extra travel fee. He left early and we had to store his equipment for 6 weeks. He had originally told me he would reimburse me for the coleslaw and roll shortages. There wasn't enough rolls for 100 people. He didn't even bring plates and silverware. I contacted him before the wedding to see if I needed to supply them and was told no he was supplying them. We had to run out while my daughter was having pictures done and purchase plates and plasticware. Absolutely ridiculous!!!! I waited to see what his response would be when we returned his equipment today and I quote.... He said I don't care! Well I guess they got their money so to hell with me. I will never use them again or recommend them to anyone.

And the greatest debate of them all; what sauce (if any) is the proper one. But there is one element all can agree on; aroma. If you pull up, close enough for the breeze to carry the smoke across your nostrils, you know if it's true barbecue. And on a cold night, having just spent 9 hours driving to Virginia, I had such an experience. A family member called as we got closer to arrival and mentioned Fizzle's. I don't remember his exact words, but they involved a trailer, fire pit, and good sides. It was like going on a blind date with a optimist; I was already in love and had yet to lay eyes on the place. Down this two lane road we traveled, the sun having already set, and I scanned the scenery in anticipation. In what could only be described as some form of bbq voodoo, it magically appeared around a corner. This beacon of light, contrasted against the starless sky, required no flashy signage or voluminous music. It was the sign, and the song, I was looking for. Our windows up, due to the ever dropping temperature, the aroma found its way to me. The savoriness of hickory, with notes of apple wood and cooking pork fat, was a siren and I the surrendering sailer. My appetite spoke for me that night, asking about the larger pork sandwich option, but thankful Reneta advised me that would be an entire pound (whereas the sandwich is still half a pound). I almost went for it, but I tell you wisdom must have intervened in that moment for I was dragging my fork across the finish line as I took the last bite of bean and mac n cheese. The sauce has just a touch of sweetness (likely a pinch of brown sugar), but not too overt. As a child I had a crush on Mrs. Frizzle. Corky, intelligent, encouraging, and she had a magic school bus. But now as a grown up, my new crush is Fizzle. The meat, the sides, the sauce, the seemingly secret locations they may pop up next. If you're in the area, order a plate for me. And I beg of you, tell me the moment they get desserts.
