I went with the Wedge which was very good. Plenty of blue cheese dressing on a half head of lettuce with tomatoes, bacon and onions. Wifey ordered fish tacos. Pair of soft shell tacos with blackened flounder and the usual toppings. I had the Low country Boil which was shrimp, sausage, corn, and potatoes covered with Cajun dust. Shrimp were small and hard to peal. Sausage was tough. A little disappointing. Worth checking out. Prices were high and meal value was modest, but it was an adventure. read more

This place is ADORABLE. We sat outside on the patio, and it was picture perfect. The lights with the old oak trees feel almost magical. The food was soooo good too. We enjoyed the shrimp and grits and the shrimp creole. Both were so delicious, but the shrimp creole was our favorite. We also enjoyed the spicy margarita. read more

By now, this has become my fave restaurant near Edisto Island... More than anything, I love their patio scene...usually complete with live music on weekends. They don't take reservations though, so that's a bit of a bummer. It's Southern-American foods, but the foods here definitely aren't bland. I LOVE their spicy Red Rice, for instance! Also their Crab Cake appetizers were quite spicy too. My husband and I had the Seafood Platters, and my son had the Pulled Pork.and we all loved what we ordered. We had an overall pleasant experience at Roxbury Mercantile. Our server, Ashley, was truly a highlight -- warm, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we sat down. Her sweet tea was honestly one of the stars of the meal -- perfectly brewed and just the right amount of sweetness. The Brussels sprouts had a great flavor and a nice crispy exterior, though they were a little firmer than we prefer, much too hard to enjoy fully. I originally ordered the shrimp and grits, but unfortunately they lacked flavor and didn't quite hit the mark, so I sent them back and opted for the sweet heat tacos instead. Those were a much better choice, solid flavor and a nice kick. All the sides we tried were good overall. The collard greens could've used more seasoning, but both the lima beans and red peas were excellent, rich, comforting, and full of flavor. I love Roxbury Mercantile. The ambience is rustic and quaint and the food is absolutely delicious. Although it is very busy during the summer months and sometimes on the weekends, the service is always excellent once seated. My favorite appetizers are the Hot Rox Shrimp : Chili-lime adobo seasoned & sautéed in hot sauce. It's a must try ! I also recommend the Crispy Brussel Sprouts ; they're flash fried and tossed in honey sriracha. My absolute favorite entree here is the Cheshire Heritage Pork Chop : bone-in, sweet tea brined and hickory smoked, finished with Roxbury Gold glaze ....ahhhhmazing !! Just order it ! The restaurant also offers a small Gift Shop area near the restrooms. On my last visit, I picked up a unique book that was both a cookbook and history book of the area. I am so glad we made the trek out to Meggett to check out this scenic and fairly priced restaurant. We were a bit disappointed that there wasn't live music as we were told the musician was sick. Our waitress was wonderful and provided us with her top recommendations on the menu. I ordered the fried shrimp platter while my boyfriend ordered the pulled pork platter. The fried shrimp was perfectly breaded and seasoned. The size of the shrimp was quite large. I enjoyed my side salad served with ranch dressing. The mac n cheese was just ok. We decided to split the coconut cake for dessert and I'm so thankful we did. It was perfection! Moist, not too rich and one of the best coconut cakes I have ever tasted! Cute place but the food could have been better. My husband and I both ordered burgers. He was asked how he wanted his burger. I wasn't asked because I was told it was a smash burger. Was looking forward to that but it isn't what I got. The burger I received had no ragged edge like a smash burger. It was a pressed burger with a smooth edge that had no taste. Nothing like a fresh burger of any sort. At least the sweet potato fries were good. I'd love to say the service was good but that's where I got the bad info. Sorry. read more

It was a beautiful day to for something outside, Tunnel of Trees, Edisto Beach...and we were looking for a new spot, with patio eating, and came upon this gem! The menu is varied an awesome. We started with pimento cheese and Ritz crackers (classic), and fried green tomatoes with chili aioli, that were firm and perfectly presented. For our main I chose the bourbon butter shrimp and grits with a side of red sea island peas. All locally sourced, and some of the best shrimp and grits I've ever enjoyed. Not to mention the red sea island peas, well seasoned and a bit of tooth, not mushy. Fried okra was one of the special sides on this day. Grown on a nearby farm by a family member...so when it is harvested, this is when they have it. And so delicious...and to not wear out a phrase, best ever!!!! So good! We just moved out to Adam's Run and we were looking for a good date night spot near by. We found it! Roxbury is a very nice spot with great service and great food! I appreciate that it's a little more upscale than some of the other restaurants in the area out here. We split the wedge and the pork chop with collards and red peas as a side. Portions were biggg and it was very affordable! Most importantly it was delicious. Great sweet tea too. We will be regulars. Only knocking one star because the collards were meh. I have pretty high standards and they weren't very good in my opinion. read more

Eight of us visiting Edisto Island went here Monday for lunch. We arrived about 11:40AM and were seated inside. Service was great. Six of our friends had eaten here two days earlier and said ti was good and would like to return. My friend said the shrimp and grits were very good so I was looking forward to trying that. We had orders for shrimp taco, Flounder Po Boys (2), Oysters, and unfortunately they didn't have the Shrimp and Grits due to the stove malfunctioning at that time....so I had to make a quick decision and picked the chicken wings with bleu cheese dipping sauce. Several of us split the side salad. The salad was excellent! Fresh lettuce, tomatoes and a very good bleu cheese sauce. My wings were smoked and you could really tell it. The bleu cheese dipping sauce was very chunky...in fact so chunky and filled with celery that it was hard to dip the wings in. The taco was very good. The Flounder Po Boy's looked really great and both people liked them. All in all this was a great experience with excellent service. Definitely would go back her when we return next year. read more

We stopped in tonight for a nice dinner. The food was not overly expensive and the service was excellent! We had an appetizer of the spicy Brussel Sprouts that were amazing! For our entrees we had the tacos with the Mac and cheeses sides and also the grilled shrimp and flounder with grits and collards. The food was delicious and very well cooked. If you're a southerner then you know how grits and collards are supposed to be cooked. We these were just right! They had a very nice indoor area for seating and the waitlist was easy to use. The noise level was very low and easy to speak with the person sitting beside you. They also have outdoor seating. This was a first time for us and we will definitely be back! Great little find after visiting the Botany Bay Plantation! Good mix of locals and tourists were there. The prices are reasonable with a good selection of local favorites. Love the location and the general atmosphere at the Roxbury. We started with the pimento cheese and Ritz crackers. Flavor was nice, but the cheese was too firm for the crackers, which break easily with thick, cool cheese dip. My husband had the Roxbury burger, which he enjoyed, despite the extra charge for lettuce and tomato (.50 cents each). That's usually a standard "comes with" at most restaurants. But the burger itself was good, cooked at a nice medium. I had the pick 2 seafood platter, choosing grilled shrimp and flounder with collards and sea island red peas as my sides. The seafood was tasty, although definitely not grilled. I know a pan sear when I see and eat it. Portion was fairly small, but large enough for a lighter eater like myself. The collards were pretty bland, but the red peas were really delicious. We were offered dessert before I was finished eating my dinner. I'm pretty laid back, but still expect professional service. Pretty simple thing to fix, especially with the reputation they're trying to uphold. read more

While I was pet sitting on Bailey Island I decided to go to Roxbury Mercantile. Every time I go by there they seem to be busy...and now I know why! My SIL & I went around 5ish and we were immediately taken to a table (outside, it was a gorgeous night). We shared a bowl of she crab soup that was to die for and I grew up in Beaufort and now live in the Charleston area so I've had my share of great she crab soups. It was so flavorful and had SO MUCH crab! It was too thin or too thick...it was just right. We also shared an order of fried brussel sprouts. OMG...I will drive back from Charleston just for these! Devine is all I can say. They were crispy yet tender in the middle. The honey sriracha sauce just added the right amount of sweet and heat. On advice from our waitress, who was excellent btw, we got the southern burger. I wasn't sure how I would fit the whole thing in my mouth but I did and I think that was the best hamburger I've ever eaten. It had a perfectly fried green tomato, bacon, pimento cheese and bacon jam! Out of this world. My SIL had the seafood platter of fried flounder and oysters. They both were fried in a light batter and cooked to perfection. We took a piece of key lime tart home for later and it was just as good as any I've had in Key West. I give the Roxbury a 10! Oh and our drinks were really good too...can't remember what was in it right now but I had 2 so they were delicious. And to top it all off we got to see the best sunset I have seen since being out on Edisto for a month. read more
