Went to Lola for dinner last weekend and it did not disappoint. We got the mussels and jambalaya, which are always go to picks for us. Food is consistently great, service was on point, and it's just one of those spots you can rely on for a solid meal every time. Would definitely recommend.

    Duck fries

The food and service were excellent. I got the duck fries to start which had seasoned fries topped with duck confit, fried green tomatoes, fried pickles, and fried jalapeños. Then for my entree I went with the shrimp and grits it was very plentiful of shrimp and the mushroom sauce on it was delicious. It also came with a piece of praline pecan cornbread I could eat a whole pan of it. Not pictured but the boudin balls, crawfish étouffée, and muffuletta were all delicious options as well.

My date and I came to LoLa for the first time. The Cajun Shrimp PoBoy and Jambalaya were authentic and tasty! Service was top notch. They have a big selection of adult beverages. Very open inside seating, and can be somewhat loud. Highly recommend!

Everything was tasty. We got here right at 7 and it was hopping. Service was a little slow but allowed us to enjoy our meal and company together so it wasn't minded at all. The vibe is definitely NOLA through and through. Down to the swamp water arnie palmer with OJ and beingnets! All the food was delish! Very much enjoyed the tender gator.

A delicious background of LoLA's turtle soup.

LoLA in Mount Pleasant, SC is consistently good. The staff greets you with a smile. The atmosphere is always pretty chill. There a numerous gluten free options and the staff always is knowledgeable about celiac and gluten in intolerance. Furthermore, the employees always treat us well and are kind; and completely care about cross-contamination. I always feel comfortable eating at the North Charleston, SC location amd the Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. location. The only downside is Mt. Pleasant's location lack of a dedicated fryer; however, the North Charleston location has a dedicated fryer. :)

The jambalaya over grits was too good and full of delicious local shrimp. Others in my party had the crawfish etoufee and shrimp po boy. Everyone enjoyed their meal and most of us had leftovers to take home since the portions are huge. Same friendly service as the North Charleston location.

Cajun corn. Not fresh, but tasty.

Note to self. Make reservations for the Fourth of July. I thought everyone would be at the beach so thought a late lunch would be easy peasy. I had a craving ( really an addiction) for fried oysters and I knew this was a new place in Mount Pleasant and since I am new as well, gave it a shot. Every single employee we came in contact with was cheerful and so accommodating. They were booked solid and the bar was also full with people standing. We decided to wait for a bit. We watched them turn away loads of folks. No openings until 7:30 and the closed at 8 pm that day. Long story short, they gave us a table if we promised to be out in an hour. Done! I asked for the fried oysters to be lightly fried because I had seen pics of them here and I was afraid they would be hard. My husband asked for the same. They did not comply with that but I will say that the oysters were delicious and so juicy with great Cajun flavors. I could just have wine and a plate of those bad boys and call it a day. They do go a bit overboard on the same seasoning in EVERY dish. The fries, the corn and the shrimp all have the same spices. The fried shrimp were unusually greasy but the oysters were not. I did see some fish tacos going by as we ate and I'd definitely give them a shot! Server was great! This is a small place with some outdoor seating. Make a reservation if you want to be seated inside. Oh, a lady next to me asked about the praline cornbread. If you like a piece of cake with your dinner, go for it. I do not. Born and bred in the South and this would be served as dessert. It was tasty, just not cornbread.

This is a place you have to go to. Big portions and great taste. If you like Cajun food, Poboy and such just go.

Risotto cake with shrimp and red beans and rice and their special cornbread. Delicious!

Lola is one of our favorite places to dine when in the Charleston area. Cajun angel appetizer is 10 out of 10. I always order the Risotto Cake with shrimp appetizer as my meal. Excellent every time!

Sorry I didn't take a picture when it first came out because I had to eat this.

Thank you! Here's an updated version of your review reflecting the Cajun style of the seafood: I had a fantastic meal at Lola in Mount Pleasant. I started with the BBQ shrimp appetizer, which was rich, savory, and full of flavor--an excellent way to kick things off. But the real star of the night was the Seafood Gumbo. Without exaggeration, it was the *best gumbo I've ever eaten. The broth was deep, bold, and authentically Cajun. and the gumbo was packed with generous portions of seafood, including whole pieces of crawfish, a rare and welcome touch. Lola nails the Cajun flavor profile without holding back. If you're craving real Louisiana-style cooking in the Lowcountry, this is the spot. I'll be back just for that gumbo.

On the coastal Atlantic, we recommend Acme Low Country Kitchen. You get five-star food in a rustic setting that could benefit for a bit of a makeover -- but only a touch or two. Excellent service compliments the food. On our plate: The "Light: House, including sauteed shrimp, seared scallops and a house-made, fresh crab cake that comes with a caveat that a shell chip or two might be mixed (we call that authentication). All were perfectly prepared and ample sized. This wasn't a shrimp-and-chips drive-through; this was a meal. Our sides: Collards (this is the low country) and fried Brussel sprouts, again well prepared. Price: $38.25 and among the higher-priced items on the seafood-heavy menu but worth it. Others in our party, including two non seafood eaters, chose the pecan fried chicken (two breast with one each going home because of the size) with another going with the Carolina Duo of the chicken and short ribs. Will we return? Yes. There are other options we've yet to try as our visits to Charleston increase but this was a real treat. Even better, it is near the fabled Dingy beach bar where we ducked in to watch the Kentucky Derby. We could spend our retirement years at The Dingy but that's another review to come. Acme is a 4.5-star review with the only points shaved because it just needs a little updating (after the season, perhaps). The food and service more than make up for it.

We walked in and the place was emptier than a church on a Wednesday night, yet somehow we were told to head on over to the bar, wait for a table, and go ahead and order ourselves a drink. Didn't make much sense, but we did as we were told. Then we stood there a good 10 minutes while the bartender, who let us know he's studying to be a dentist up in Spartanburg, was busy chatting away with another customer like we weren't even there. When he finally got around to us, it felt like we were more of an inconvenience than paying customers. But the real kicker came after we finally got our drinks. The manager came up, and I kid you not, told us we had to leave the restaurant and go out to the parking lot to finish them. No explanation, just attitude, and not a polite one either. To be honest, the manager seemed like she might have had a little too much Easter spirit, if you catch my drift. The whole interaction was downright combative and made us feel completely unwelcome. What really got me, though, was the poor hostesses and waitstaff. They apologized to us over and over and quietly let us know this kind of situation is something they deal with on a daily basis. We even heard her speaking sharply to another customer, which made it clear this wasn't just a one time issue. Honestly, the whole experience felt like a bad trip to the dentist and cost about the same as a root canal. All in all, it was a mess from start to finish, rude, confusing, and about as un Southern hospitality as you can get. I would think twice before going back, y'all.

The food was incredible, and one of the things that really stands out is that they actually have a Lowcountry boil on their regular menu, which you surprisingly do not see that often around Charleston. It is a great option if you want something classic and shareable for the table. The location is also a big part of the experience. You are right on the marsh at Shem Creek, and if you time it around sunset the views are awesome. It is one of those places where you can just sit back, enjoy the scenery, and take your time with the meal. Service was really good and the staff kept everything moving smoothly even though it was busy. Only thing to know ahead of time is that parking can be a little tricky, especially during peak hours since the spots fill up quickly. Just give yourself a little extra time. Overall, a really fun spot with great food, beautiful views, and a perfect place to celebrate with a group. Would definitely go back.

I ordered the happy hour wings and was honestly disappointed. The portion was barely a serving, and they didn't even toss the wings, just fried them and dumped a heavy amount of seasoning on top. No balance at all. I also had the crab cake sandwich with waffle fries. The sandwich itself was good, but the fries were just okay at best. A lot of them were so hard you couldn't even bite into them, which was frustrating. Another downside was the pricing. I didn't like that they charge different prices for cash vs. card. Being charged extra just for using a card feels outdated and should be clearly stated beforehand. Overall, some things were decent, but between the small portions, poorly prepared sides, and the card fee, I probably wouldn't rush back

While they had an elevated menu, the decor inside reminded me of an old crab house. They did have live music on a Saturday evening and a small covered patio. For starters we got corn bread and crab dip and both were fairly lack luster. The dip was small and very fishy for a crab dip. The corn bread looked like texas toast but grilled and sweeter then normal texas toast but nothing like any corn bread I've eaten in my 30+ years. For mains I tried the shrimp and grits, and some others in the group tried the shrimp skewers, shrimp tacos, etc. Most of the food was fairly tasteless and not in a this is so healthy way - it just was bland. My shrimp and grits had fantastic grits and dressing but the sausage was meh and the shrimp looked barely grilled. The side sauces were all pretty boring and one item came with a garlic butter that came completely cold - not sure how we were supposed to use it. Drinks we got were all pretty watered down - I did like the garden spritz but the basil flavor was the star of the show and some people didn't like how strong it was. Overall - maybe an off day but for the price point, not impressed on the seafood or the drinks. Bathrooms were also not very clean and the toilet literally shook off the wall when using them.
