The tables were way too close to each other. I had a guy sitting with his back facing me at the next table. Had to be careful not to knock into him while eating my meal...it was that close. I could tell the place probably has a great view normally, but we ate inside because it was too cold to eat outside. All in all, it was decent...but I'd recommend going to Bowen's right down the road instead. Just a better deal for the money with better food. read more

The fish batter did not have a lot of flavor and the same with the Scallops. Both my wife and I had the had the same thoughts about the food. The service was fast but the server never came back and checked on us or refilled our drinks. My wife asked the sever for tarter sauce but she never brought it to us. We found Locklear's (Lolo's) on Yelp on a recent vacation and went for lunch after a dolphin cruise nearby. It's a cute little restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating and water views. Our group of six was seated quickly. We ordered a few appetizers for the table: Brussels sprouts, hush puppies, and okra, all of which we enjoyed. The Brussels sprouts were particularly good. For the meal itself I had the 1/4 fried platter with oysters and scallops. I found the oysters a little oily but the scallops were quite good. Others had the crab cakes (good) and a few other menu items. Before our food was served, our server got reassigned to the bar, but no one replaced her as our server. While she tried to come by in between bar patrons, service dramatically declined. We ended up with no sauces for our meals and two drinks we ordered (and asked after a few times) didn't arrive until we'd finished the entire meal. My husband and I visited Lolo's on Saturday for a late lunch. We were excited to try Lolo's because of the beautiful waterside view and seafood selections. When we arrived the gravel parking lot was packed. We got the last spot. There was seating available inside and outside. No reservations are needed. We were seated inside at the last table. It had a casual, rustic vibe and lots of windows to see the gorgeous view of the water. Our waitress was friendly. We both ordered the grouper sandwich special which came with fries and the broiled scallops. The food had absolutely no flavor. I mean NO flavor. The grouper was deep fried and served on a bun with lettuce and tomato and light sauce with old bay seasoning. I asked for some extra sauce and the waitress said it's on the bun. I said I would like more and she never brought it. Never checked on me, never refilled drinks. The scallops had no flavor. They could have been boiled in plain water. Tasted like nothing. The fries didn't even have any flavor so I just loaded them up with ketchup. I had water to drink. The bill was $68 for food with no flavor and no service from the waitress. The food was of poor quality, no taste, no service. The only thing Lolo's has going for it is the view. I will NOT be back. I do not recommend. read more

I'll be generous because this place met our expectations. Metro DC folks visiting Folley Beach and passed by this place which had a sign "soft shell crabs." Just had to come back for this after visiting the beach. About a mile away and on its own, don't expect much out of ambience. Wooden picnic tables in an airy space beside a river (or swamp). This is what adds allure to the place. Then Lolo's had me with the fries alone. Hot and crunchy even as it gets cold. The soft shell crab was huge and tasted amazing as a sandwich. Ditto with breaded scallops as a po boy sandwich. My wife says the fried okra, substituted for her fries were equally good; just not a fan of okra. And these sandwiches cost less than $ 20! Not a drinker but they do have a bar and serve cocktails. I was here at 2:30 pm on a Thursday and the place was packed. There were so many amazing things about Lolo's (as it's locally known) that I don't know where to start? The casual waterfront dining? Gorj. The indoor/outdoor hybrid of said waterfront dining? Great. The hybrid seating (and the lovely staff) being dog-friendly? Woof. The fact that they were able to seat us on a sunny Sunday evening in less than ten minutes? Yaaaassssss. In addition to all of the wonderful things, the food itself was great. I wanted to have some authentic seafood while down near Folly Beach, and Lolo's did not disappoint. My brother and I left a lot of food behind (well... we took a lot of food home with us) because our eyes were bigger than our stomachs and we ordered too much. It was all too good to actually leave behind. We started with the crab cakes where were prepared to perfection with a delicious drizzle of some autumn-colored sauce. As an alternate appetizers, we also went with the Brussels sprouts, which came topped with bleu cheese, some veggies, and another tasty drizzle. For our entrees, my brother went with the shrimp Po Boy, basically a fried shrimp sub, and crispy French fries. I had the fried scallops. They were good, but in hindsight, I probably would have gotten a more authentic taste if I had gone with broiled instead of fried. This is my error and certainly nothing against the incredible staff at Lolo's. The staff was attentive and answered our questions for recommendations. We got our food to go. We ordered around 515 and showed up around 5:30. Brody who took my order on the phone was also the bar tender and he was very nice and respectful. He is the true example of customer service and should be the face of Lolo's. As I waited for my food he had good conversation and I could tell he was one of the hardest workers in the building. We were hopeful about finding another great mom and pop seafood restaurant in the area. Sadly, this one was very disappointing. They had two servers working and they were very over stacked with tables. The male at the bar was rude on several occasions to our waitress who was super friendly and helpful. She was doing all she possibly do and more. No complaints on her at all. Wonderful! The food was just meh. Crab stew was warm at best. Peel and eat shrimp were ok. Salad was not great. Food was tasteless, I'm pretty sure leaving a positive review is part of the hiring process because that would be the only explanation for someone willingly advertising for this joint. Save yourself the time and money and stop off at your local Long John's silvers and ask for yesterday's fish and you might match the grit cake I had cooked in last weeks oil. The food quality is less than expected with such a great location. Smaller portions with larger prices. Quality of the seafood again is less than expected. Somethings seemed fresh while others were frozen. Had better, had worse. Service well below average, super slow all the way around. Slow to be approached, slow beverage service, super slow food. Lolo's is a great little spot on the way towards folly beach, only complaints I had was the headless flounder could've used a bit more seasoning. The fries and hush puppies that were with the meal made it much more enjoyable regardless. Although it sits right on the inner coastal an claims fresh local seafood don't be fooled. They only had one local offering and that was an overpriced and undersized flounder. While you can look out their windows and see shrimp boats they offer only gulf shrimp. Their run of the mill dishes are very much like any fried seafood restaurant you see far from the coast. We stopped by here for a quick lunch before visiting folly beach. We were actually recommended to this place by one of our spa therapist that is a local. We were happy we took her up on the recommendation as everything we ate was fresh and good. My favorite was the mud bug basket. First time visiting Charleston and we made the mistake of following the Google reviews to find this place. Ambience, it's a shack off the main road. The "waterfront" is a marsh with a noisy highway as a back drop. The "outdoor seating" are park benches. Pretty much what you expect from a local dive. Our waitress was nice enough, no complaints there. I ordered the crab cakes to start. They were nicely sized and tasty BUT terribly undercooked mush. There was a smear of sauce, almost a laughable amount. I'd give them a 4/10...... The main courses included: A fried flounder/shrimp platter. This included 6 shrimp and three thumb sized pieces of paper thin fish. It lacked any flavor and was just mehhh at best. 2/10 A broiled platter. This was a similar portion of above, except just wet and lackluster. If food was a feeling, this would have been sadness. 2/10 A ribeye. This one is "on us" as you never order steak at a fish place. 1/10 A crab leg boil. Never had a "boil" that had NO BROTH. Yep, just two sets of legs, some very uniquely flavored sausage and veggies. For $50, it was disappointment in a bowl. For a family of four, with no drinks, the final total was $210.
