Best oysters in town. Small locally owned, locally sourced hole in the wall! Friendly staff and niche location makes it a worthwhile stop. The locals know it and recommend it.

We tried Lolo's restaurant in Folly Beach today and I was not impressed with the food or service. We had the grouper sandwich and scallops. The fish batter did not have a lot of flavor and the same with the Scallops. Both my wife and I had the had the same thoughts about the food. The service was fast but the server never came back and checked on us or refilled our drinks. My wife asked the sever for tarter sauce but she never brought it to us. The food was over priced for the quality of food served. The best thing about Lolo's was the view. We will not go back.

My husband and I visited Lolo's on Saturday for a late lunch. We were excited to try Lolo's because of the beautiful waterside view and seafood selections. When we arrived the gravel parking lot was packed. We got the last spot. There was seating available inside and outside. No reservations are needed. We were seated inside at the last table. It had a casual, rustic vibe and lots of windows to see the gorgeous view of the water. Our waitress was friendly. We both ordered the grouper sandwich special which came with fries and the broiled scallops. The food had absolutely no flavor. I mean NO flavor. The grouper was deep fried and served on a bun with lettuce and tomato and light sauce with old bay seasoning. I asked for some extra sauce and the waitress said it's on the bun. I said I would like more and she never brought it. Never checked on me, never refilled drinks. The scallops had no flavor. They could have been boiled in plain water. Tasted like nothing. The fries didn't even have any flavor so I just loaded them up with ketchup. I had water to drink. The bill was $68 for food with no flavor and no service from the waitress. The food was of poor quality, no taste, no service. The only thing Lolo's has going for it is the view. I will NOT be back. I do not recommend.

I'll be generous because this place met our expectations. Metro DC folks visiting Folley Beach and passed by this place which had a sign "soft shell crabs." Just had to come back for this after visiting the beach. About a mile away and on its own, don't expect much out of ambience. Wooden picnic tables in an airy space beside a river (or swamp). This is what adds allure to the place. Then Lolo's had me with the fries alone. Hot and crunchy even as it gets cold. The soft shell crab was huge and tasted amazing as a sandwich. Ditto with breaded scallops as a po boy sandwich. My wife says the fried okra, substituted for her fries were equally good; just not a fan of okra. And these sandwiches cost less than $ 20! Not a drinker but they do have a bar and serve cocktails. I was here at 2:30 pm on a Thursday and the place was packed. Attentive and warm servers complete the great experience of dining at Lolo's.

There were so many amazing things about Lolo's (as it's locally known) that I don't know where to start? The casual waterfront dining? Gorj. The indoor/outdoor hybrid of said waterfront dining? Great. The hybrid seating (and the lovely staff) being dog-friendly? Woof. The fact that they were able to seat us on a sunny Sunday evening in less than ten minutes? Yaaaassssss. In addition to all of the wonderful things, the food itself was great. I wanted to have some authentic seafood while down near Folly Beach, and Lolo's did not disappoint. My brother and I left a lot of food behind (well... we took a lot of food home with us) because our eyes were bigger than our stomachs and we ordered too much. It was all too good to actually leave behind. We started with the crab cakes where were prepared to perfection with a delicious drizzle of some autumn-colored sauce. As an alternate appetizers, we also went with the Brussels sprouts, which came topped with bleu cheese, some veggies, and another tasty drizzle. For our entrees, my brother went with the shrimp Po Boy, basically a fried shrimp sub, and crispy French fries. I had the fried scallops. They were good, but in hindsight, I probably would have gotten a more authentic taste if I had gone with broiled instead of fried. This is my error and certainly nothing against the incredible staff at Lolo's. The staff was attentive and answered our questions for recommendations. Our waitress was super sweet and very attentive to the dog, even bringing a cool bowl of water and a dog treat for her.

We got our food to go. We ordered around 515 and showed up around 5:30. Brody who took my order on the phone was also the bar tender and he was very nice and respectful. He is the true example of customer service and should be the face of Lolo's. As I waited for my food he had good conversation and I could tell he was one of the hardest workers in the building. Hats off to Brody, ask for him if he works. At 5:30 on a rainy Wednesday it was slow and multiple tables were available.

Fish taco which was not good

I enjoyed my meal, the wife not as much. We started by sharing a bowl of really good She Crab soup. The heat from this dish is what set it apart from other soups in the city. Just the right amount of spice that melded well with the creamy broth. I ordered and enjoyed a Fried Feast seafood platter, with Flounder, Scallops, and double order of Oysters. The Oysters and Scallops were Great, and the Founder was decent. The cook on the hush puppies was very uneven, dark on one side, and light and under Cooked on the other. The wife's fish taco was not good. It was a white fish (not sure what type), with With lime scallion slaw and avocado puree. The slaw was what killed this dish, as it not only lacked flavor, but had too much liquid which just made the taco a wet awful mess. The side of fries were OK

Exactly what we were looking for! Casual dining, with a breathtaking view of the sunset over the marsh and phenomenal local seafood. It was a Sunday night and they had run out of a lot of things but they had exactly what we needed. The servers were great, easy to chat with and fun to be around. If you're looking for just great quality food with a view, this is the place!

I repeat. STEAMED OYSTERS. I don't know why anyone will visit this place after 4pm (it's only available then) and not order the steamed oysters. $30 for probably 30-40 the freshest, sweetest oysters you can get. Now, you have to shuck them yourselves and they vary in size. But it's part of the fun, and they're just so, so good. The seafood platter for $33 is a steal too - excellently fried flounder, fresh firmed not-overcooked shrimp, some of the best hush puppies too. - Atmosphere: chill, coastal, laid-back. Live music on Wednesday adding to the vibe. - Environment: hole in the wall. Some comments said it's dirty - it's really not. It's not a fine dining establishment but it's honestly much cleaner than a lot of the ocean shacks I've been to. - Service: yes it's a lot of self-service (you kind of have to clean the table too) and probably not worth 20% tip. But everyone is friendly Anyway, there are a lot of good restaurants in Charleston. But this is the most unique experience. My no.1 recommendation if someone asks.

But luckily I was craving seafood when I left Hyams, so I decided to to give CudaCo a shot. As soon as you walk in the door, you can tell it's not your typical seafood market. There's a room of wines for sale, beer, and a few dining tables. Then there's the fresh catch display case... And I must say, their selection is consistently great. The quality and freshness is top notch. And they usually have some hard to find fresh catch. What makes CudaCo stand out from other markets is that you can pick your desired catch from the display case and then have them cook it to your liking. Everything that I've had was literally foot stomping good. And to add to that, they also offer frozen seafood, premade dips, and many other items in the freezer section. Was prob the worst fried flounder I've ever had, to be completely honest. But that's not why I give this place such a low rating. It's the service. Both times I've been here - the first time to eat there and the second time to just buy some fresh fish to cook at home - the people who worked there have been borderline rude. Maybe rude is the wrong word. Personality-less might be a better descriptor. There was a major vibe of - "what do you want...because you're bothering me..." if that makes sense. Contrast that with Crosby's down the road (heading towards Folly Beach on the right) and the difference is STARK. Crosby's people are *always* so nice and helpful. Can't tell you how many times I've struck up a conversation about what I was buying and how I was planning to cook it at Crosby's. CudaCo, on the other hand, is cold and their staff seems completely indifferent about their customers. It's why I never go there anymore and I tell everyone I know to avoid it like the plague. Bottom line, save your time and money and go to Crosby's instead. Life's too short to be treated the way CudaCo treats their customers.

Again...it was good...not great. I cook way better salmon at home on a cedar plank over real charcoal, so maybe I'm being unfair here? I dunno. The salad itself was heavy on arugula, which I'm not a huge fan of. Which is odd, because I love the flavor of pepper! Anyway, the menu made it sound like it was more fennel-oriented, so... Ended up capping off the meal with the blackberry key lime pie. It was quite tasty. Not the best key lime pie I've ever had, but good. As to the atmosphere, it's nice. My husband really enjoyed them (this trip was mostly for him!), but they were a little spicy for me. I ended up getting a Caesar salad with fried crawfish tails instead, and it was huge--I only made it through about half. We also got margaritas during happy hour--both were really good. It does say on the menu that they ask guests not to stay longer than 1.5 hours, so just something to keep in mind. They are pet-friendly, and we sat outside. There was plenty of outdoor seating, and the tables had umbrellas, which was nice. The only other thing we weren't thrilled about was the credit card surcharge--it was around 3-3.5%, which feels a bit high, especially since most people don't carry cash anymore.
