    Blackened fish sandwich

The food here was delicious! It certainly lived up to its reputation. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We think the area would be a bit more welcoming if there was something in front of the big dumpster when you pull in the driveway and the restrooms were cleaned up to welcome guests.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Would definitely recommend a return trip.

Sunset on the deck with fresh seafood - can't be beat. They were slammed prior to our arrival, so the later time worked well for us. Food was fantastic and came out quickly. Waitress was sweet.

Best oysters in town. Small locally owned, locally sourced hole in the wall! Friendly staff and niche location makes it a worthwhile stop. The locals know it and recommend it.

We tried Lolo's restaurant in Folly Beach today and I was not impressed with the food or service. We had the grouper sandwich and scallops. The fish batter did not have a lot of flavor and the same with the Scallops. Both my wife and I had the had the same thoughts about the food. The service was fast but the server never came back and checked on us or refilled our drinks. My wife asked the sever for tarter sauce but she never brought it to us. The food was over priced for the quality of food served. The best thing about Lolo's was the view. We will not go back.

My husband and I visited Lolo's on Saturday for a late lunch. We were excited to try Lolo's because of the beautiful waterside view and seafood selections. When we arrived the gravel parking lot was packed. We got the last spot. There was seating available inside and outside. No reservations are needed. We were seated inside at the last table. It had a casual, rustic vibe and lots of windows to see the gorgeous view of the water. Our waitress was friendly. We both ordered the grouper sandwich special which came with fries and the broiled scallops. The food had absolutely no flavor. I mean NO flavor. The grouper was deep fried and served on a bun with lettuce and tomato and light sauce with old bay seasoning. I asked for some extra sauce and the waitress said it's on the bun. I said I would like more and she never brought it. Never checked on me, never refilled drinks. The scallops had no flavor. They could have been boiled in plain water. Tasted like nothing. The fries didn't even have any flavor so I just loaded them up with ketchup. I had water to drink. The bill was $68 for food with no flavor and no service from the waitress. The food was of poor quality, no taste, no service. The only thing Lolo's has going for it is the view. I will NOT be back. I do not recommend.

I'll be generous because this place met our expectations. Metro DC folks visiting Folley Beach and passed by this place which had a sign "soft shell crabs." Just had to come back for this after visiting the beach. About a mile away and on its own, don't expect much out of ambience. Wooden picnic tables in an airy space beside a river (or swamp). This is what adds allure to the place. Then Lolo's had me with the fries alone. Hot and crunchy even as it gets cold. The soft shell crab was huge and tasted amazing as a sandwich. Ditto with breaded scallops as a po boy sandwich. My wife says the fried okra, substituted for her fries were equally good; just not a fan of okra. And these sandwiches cost less than $ 20! Not a drinker but they do have a bar and serve cocktails. I was here at 2:30 pm on a Thursday and the place was packed. Attentive and warm servers complete the great experience of dining at Lolo's.

There were so many amazing things about Lolo's (as it's locally known) that I don't know where to start? The casual waterfront dining? Gorj. The indoor/outdoor hybrid of said waterfront dining? Great. The hybrid seating (and the lovely staff) being dog-friendly? Woof. The fact that they were able to seat us on a sunny Sunday evening in less than ten minutes? Yaaaassssss. In addition to all of the wonderful things, the food itself was great. I wanted to have some authentic seafood while down near Folly Beach, and Lolo's did not disappoint. My brother and I left a lot of food behind (well... we took a lot of food home with us) because our eyes were bigger than our stomachs and we ordered too much. It was all too good to actually leave behind. We started with the crab cakes where were prepared to perfection with a delicious drizzle of some autumn-colored sauce. As an alternate appetizers, we also went with the Brussels sprouts, which came topped with bleu cheese, some veggies, and another tasty drizzle. For our entrees, my brother went with the shrimp Po Boy, basically a fried shrimp sub, and crispy French fries. I had the fried scallops. They were good, but in hindsight, I probably would have gotten a more authentic taste if I had gone with broiled instead of fried. This is my error and certainly nothing against the incredible staff at Lolo's. The staff was attentive and answered our questions for recommendations. Our waitress was super sweet and very attentive to the dog, even bringing a cool bowl of water and a dog treat for her.

We got our food to go. We ordered around 515 and showed up around 5:30. Brody who took my order on the phone was also the bar tender and he was very nice and respectful. He is the true example of customer service and should be the face of Lolo's. As I waited for my food he had good conversation and I could tell he was one of the hardest workers in the building. Hats off to Brody, ask for him if he works. [[HIGHLIGHT]]At 5:30 on a rainy Wednesday it was slow and multiple tables were available.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

We are from the Northeast where ordering a seafood plate of any kind is plenty enough to share with one (or more) people, but NOT this one! The portion size was shockingly small in relation to the price (or it's just not what we're used to) and was not fit for sharing. The fish was flounder, which we've never had before and wanted to try it as we are used to having cod as the fish in "fish & chips." It looked flat and dry, and tasted as such even though it seemed to be fried nicely. After several bites, we decided we didn't like it but I cant figure out if that's because we actually don't like flounder or if maybe we got a bad piece of fish since it was really sad looking?? Anyways, I'm giving two stars as I liked the fries and hushpuppies. Everything seemed to be fried well. The people sitting at the bar next to us got completely different meals and they looked much better than ours. I'd be willing to come back and give this place another try as it was very crowded when we came so I understand any place can be busy and have an off-day!

A true pioneer in moving the fish market in a sustainable direction to make sure we have ample fish populations for years to come. Now the food? Delicious. Fresh. Flavorful. The ceviche with the sticky rice add on is my favorite here, but everything is absolutely yummy! Poboy and crab cakes round out my top 3. Inside, you'll find a small space with limited seating and a counter to order at. Lots of tables outside (both on their porch and out back in the beautiful trees), so plan your attire accordingly. Big group? Likely not sitting inside! They have a fairly large wine selection and beverage fridge, so you should be able to find something to make the whole group happy. Casual, relaxed, friendly spot. Everytime I drive by, I feel the draw to pull in!

I had the smoked fish dip, served with saltines and fresh sliced vegetables for dipping, along with the house oysters and a glass of white wine. The vegetables were sliced perfectly for scooping up the dip and made a fresh, crisp alternative to the saltines. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and delicious. The setup is casual and easy -- you walk up to the counter to order, and they give you a digital pager to let you know when your food is ready. I also appreciated details like the recycled utensils and the overall relaxed feel of the place. The service stood out before I even walked in. Someone was in the parking lot helping direct guests on where to park, which was a nice touch and made arriving easy. Great seafood, friendly service, a relaxed waterfront atmosphere, and a really enjoyable experience. Definitely worth a stop on James Island!

They have a few unique items like their sweet tea which is called swamp water and is infused with lemon, lime and orange. It didnt really seem like it was infused. More like they just poured in various concentrated fruit juices. Too bad our waitress wasn't as informative as the waiter serving the table behind us. She failed to indicate that they have off the menu items, and specials on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. It was kind of hard to choose since I had been eating seafood all week leading up to this visit and also trying to avoid fried foods this year. I ended up choosing the mussels and bowl of gumbo, along with a sweet tea. The tea tasted fairly similar to a lipton sweet tea from the soda fountain and not really something homemade and infused with fresh juices. Mussels - these were really good. Even if half of the mussels fell out into the broth during preparation. Gumbo - this was kind of questionable. My colleague also saw the redish hue of the liquid and said he was glad he didn't order it. It was filled with a lot of seafood, but the liquid was just too creamy. My colleague also commented on the etouffee that was being brought out to other nearby tables and supposedly it looked too dry. I also ordered a to go dessert. The bread pudding. It ended up being pretty decent though.
