    Lobster Deviled Eggs
    Jay J.

Topsail was really good. The food tasted great, the service was superb (thank you Joe), and the atmosphere was relaxed. The restaurant is a couple of blocks off Shem Creek and much less crowded then the restaurants on Shem Creek. You don't get the same view, but the food is just as good, if not better. The main eating area is set up around the bar. There are lots of bar seats, tables all around the walls, outdoor seating (some gliders) around gas fire pits, and some more tables off to the left. We started with lobster deviled eggs, which were really good (8/10). For the main dishes, we ordered: - Shrimp Gnocchi (9/10) - Roasted garlic alfredo sauce with arugula, cherry tomatoes, and balsamic glaze - Lobster & Grits (8/10) - Fresh lobster meat, lobster cream gravy, bacon, cherry tomatoes, caramelized onions If we lived in the area, we would definitely return.

I had a group of 12 and they had space for us at the right time for our reservation. They were super friendly and explained to us all the options they had and were very understanding with everything. The food was also amazing!! The only thing stopping me from giving them a 5 star is that one of the waiters spilled some sauce from my meal on my dress, and when they had asked if they spilled any, I said yes. However, they just apologized and walked away. It wasn't too big of a spill, so that's ok.

Service from Bobby was STELLAR. We've made reservations at so many places during our honeymoon week with those notes on the reservation and this was the ONLY restaurant in Charleston which not only acknowledged it, but offered us dessert for it. (Sadly we were too full.) Food was good but we had shells in the she crab soup AND in both of our lobster and grits. Lots of shells. Very bummed about this. As a side note, I told the server about my severe allergy to clams and muscles and he went above and beyond to make sure none of our food was at risk and he let me know what was safe to eat after checking with the chef. I really wish there wouldn't have been so many shells in our food, it would have been a perfect 5. I'd still recommend this place though, especially because of the service. Dinner for 2, no alcoholic drinks, and a side salad and cup of soup was just 100.

Awesome! The food was spectacular. Yes it's pricier but we'll worth it. I had the salmon entree and their Brussels sprouts were out of this world. Perfectly crispy with lots of flavor and perhaps a balsamic glaze? Their key like pie is clearly made all in house from the crust to the filling. It was delightful. Our waiter was wonderful, attentive and patient with my always confused mom. The interior is cozy and upscale but you don't need to dress to the nines to come. Small parking lot in the back as well.

My asian Tuna was excellent, the chicken Milanese was also very good, and a huge portion, the brussels sprouts appetizer was also excellent. Service was great, very professional, we highly recommend this restaurant!

We had the seafood platter. It was delicious. The hush puppies with Cajun honey butter are amazing. Great service. Don't let the looks deceive you. We will define be back.

Food is really good and lots of good choices. Nice cocktail menu too. My fish seemed slightly over cooked but the crab meat was AMAZING! Service was really good.

A must try!! From the curb appeal we weren't sure if we would like it but the food was outstanding! We started with the lobster sauce scallops which were good but we couldn't taste the lobster at all. The seafood platter was very good but the scallops were out of this world good. The peaches with scallop combination was surprisingly the perfect pairing. The service was good, not great and the place was overall not too loud! The good food makes this place deserve a 5/5!

Overall: Great service to compliment a quality meal! The good: The food was pretty good, but the service is what stood out for us. Our waiter (I can't quite remember his name, maybe Dean? ((He claimed to be the pastry chef/baker)) had a great sense of humor and was attentive. He made a self-proclaimed sexist joke at one point in the meal, and felt bad so he brought us out a free slice of chocolate cake (also helped that we were on our honeymoon, which he found out after). The cake was indulgent, moist, choclately, and simply incredible. The complimentary hush puppies were also a highlight, as was the lobster roll appetizer. The not-so-good: The ceviche was average. It was an interesting pairing of pineapple, peaches (if I remember), and tuna, but it didn't quite work. Food/drink: 9/10 Atmosphere: 9/10 Service: 9.5/10

We arrived early enough to enjoy a couple of cocktails during Happy Hour. The Yuzu margaritas were to die for...with that we ordered the bacon wrapped hush puppies and the fried shrimp. Both stellar, but the shrimp were really perfectly done. We then moved to a table to enjoy dinner. My husband ordered the Osso Bucco and I ordered the scallops. Really delicious meals - couldn't have been better, and enough food to take home for lunch the next day!! The place is nicely decorated and the staff very friendly. We had such a pleasant time - Thank you!

    PEI Mussels
    Bill E.

What a surprise on our inaugural visit to this small yet delightful restaurant. I had the PEI Mussels in the most delicious lobster sauce. The taste of these fantastic mussels was exceeded only by this exquisite sauce. All of this while experiencing the exemplary service of our server...she was so well informed and professional. I'll return to TOPSAIL.

It was good, with decent flavor, though it was a little too fishy for my taste and a bit moist in the middle. Still enjoyable, just not perfect. Two people in our party got the grilled red fish. They liked it but wished the sauce had been served on the side instead of already mixed in with the scallions and tomatoes. The standout for me was the waffle fries - they were really delicious! Nice and crispy on the outside with a soft, almost mashed/pillowy texture inside. I've seen some complaints about them being too dry, but we thought they were excellent. Our waitress was fantastic - sweet, attentive, and made the whole experience better. Overall, a reliable spot for seafood in the area. We'd come back, especially for the fries and friendly service! The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, and the service throughout our lunch was attentive and welcoming. Everyone at our table loved their meals -- burgers, fries, and sandwiches all around with rave reviews. Instead of cake, our group brought blueberry pies and vanilla ice cream, and the staff graciously took everything to the kitchen, sliced and plated the pie, added generous scoops of ice cream, and even placed birthday candles on each slice. Such a thoughtful touch that made the celebration extra special. The atmosphere along the water made it even better. Watching kayaks, paddle boards, and boats pass along Shem Creek while enjoying lunch was the perfect backdrop for a celebration. This has definitely become a new favorite spot for our group! I was a little worried when the website said call ahead seating was on hold thinking they would be slammed, but forged onward!' It was Sunday afternoon. I have read about nightmare parking but did not experience that at all. Zoomed right in. Yes, it was eleven bucks. I don't mind paying and refuse to get myself worked up over it. Ask for an outside table and no sooner did we sit down, the dolphins showed up!!! I consider myself an expert on dolphin spotting and had to show the table of 5 college age young ladies where they were located. They loved them as well. Who knew they would be so active in the middle of a busy waterway? As a former boat owner, I love watching those huge honkin' boats parallel park in between the baby ones. I do not have that skill , but it's entertaining to watch. Tyler was our server and was nice and attentive. Drinks were cold and quite good. I ordered a house Chardonnay and it was Cambria. Not crazy expensive either! Had shrimp tacos and steamed shrimp. So many steamed ones that I had a full meal the next day. I look forward to trying many more dishes. What I enjoyed the most was being part of a fun atmosphere in a fun place. Not a sad person in the place. That's always my attitude near any body of water. I'll start with the positives. Our server was fantastic. She was personable, attentive, and did a great job throughout our meal. As for the food, it was just okay. I ordered the fish tacos, and unfortunately the mahi was overcooked and very dry. They also came absolutely covered in sour cream. I was expecting a light drizzle, but there was so much that I only managed a few bites before I couldn't finish them. My friend ordered the Cuban and absolutely loved it. He cleaned his plate, so it seems the food can be a bit hit or miss. The biggest downside, though, had nothing to do with the food. There was some type of political or civic meeting taking place in the main dining room. I'm not exactly sure if the speaker was running for mayor or another office, but it wasn't in a private room. It was out in the open where everyone dining had to listen. I don't think it's appropriate to hold an event like that in the middle of a restaurant during regular service regardless of your political affiliation. Some of the things being discussed made me genuinely uncomfortable, and even my male friend commented on it. If the restaurant wants to host political events, I think they should either use a private space or close the restaurant to the general public during the event. The views and service were great, but the atmosphere that day was overshadowed by the speaker, and unfortunately that's what I'll remember most about my visit.
