    Flounder platter
    Jumaane D.

Found this place because I was looking for some flounder and saw the pictures of rhe wings. We got there late and they were still accommodating and we did not feel rushed. They are family owned and they cook with love. The wings were crispy and seasoned well. We had the jerk rub, lemon pepper, Carolina gold and bourbon. Wife and I had the flounder platter with red rice, mac and cheese, corn bread, string beans and cucumbers and tomatoes salad. Everything was so good felt like home cooking. My brother had the shrimp platter and he loved his food as well. We will make this a regular when we are back in South Carolina. We definitely recommend this place when you are in the Charleston area!

Simply amazing!!! The service was great, ambience and food was everything!! I had the seafood rice and fried fish, which had real crab meat, scallops, oysters and shrimps with bell peppers and onions. It was seasoned to perfection and very tasty!! The portions was huge... I definitely will have food for lunch and dinner tomorrow!!

Fried porkchops, macaroni and cheese, seasoned green beans, and delicious sweet tea!
    Richard B.

This is a hidden gem of a down home cooking restaurant in Ravenel, and well worth the drive from West Ashley. This was our second trip here and again, it did not disappoint. It starts with the sweet tea..... and any of you true southerners know this. Good sweet tea makes or breaks the meal! It's a simple thing, but for some reason a lot of restaurants struggle with this. I'm happy to report the sweet tea is awesome! For dinner we had the perfectly seasoned and fried pork chops, creamy smokey macaroni and cheese, and lightly seasoned green beans. My wife had the same meal but with okra and it was also excellent. The plates feel like they are made by your grandmother; its got that type of feel to it. We left stuffed and happy. The only thing you could possibly say outdoes the food is the service. The server is one of those rare genuine people pleasers. We couldn't have enjoyed our experience more and plan to come back soon. If you're looking for quality southern cooking at very reasonable prices, look no further!

There's actually a restaurant in Hilton Head that serves Lowcountry cuisine, but we didn't get a chance to visit it, so finding this spot was a real treat. We arrived promptly at 11 am, and while the inside was a bit musty at first, the cool air quickly kicked in and made it comfortable. We wanted to try a variety of dishes, my partner and I decided to share some lunch specials. We went with the Homestyle Meatloaf and Fried Pork Chops, both served with two sides and tea. The sides included collard greens, mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, and corn nuggets. Gosh, I'm still dreaming about that delicious, home-cooked meal! The service, food, and ambiance exceeded my expectations. It's a charming spot that's definitely worth a visit if you're passing through. I'll be dreaming of that meal for a while =) highly recommend giving them a try!

The collards, green beans, and macaroni were great. It's what you'd expect flavorful vegetables likely simmered in bacon and goodness. Unfortunately the chicken came out pretty pink. The server took care of it and offered to have them finish cooking, but it was late and we didn't have it in us to wait any longer. But it seemed like a lot of regulars came here.

You order, they plate it, you pay and either take it to go or to sit in the small dining area. Service is very quick and efficient, and you can tell there are a lot of regulars who come here because the staff joked and laughed with them as they waited in line. Speaking of the line, it moved fast but while we were there a woman came around with a tray and offered little cups of brightly colored something. I chose red and was delighted to see it was a frozen punch, red is cherry. My friend got orange and he said it was like a mango or peach flavor. I ordered the fried chicken, with cabbage and red rice. The cabbage was absolute fire, it was so tender and delicious. The red rice was good, but a bit on the dry side. I feel like had I been there when a fresh pan was brought out it would have been a lot better. The fried chicken was perfectly cooked and had a flaky crust but it needed salt and the tables did not provide any. I would come back, there are so many other things I would love to try and this place is busy for a reason.

The hostess told us we could sit at the bar, but said we couldn't order food or drinks, only water. A short time later, we watched other guests being served drinks. When we asked the bartender about the policy, she seemed confused and gladly took our order. That lack of communication was frustrating from the start. What really stood out was being overlooked. We watched four parties get seated before us while we sat in plain sight at the bar waiting to be called. When we finally asked about our table, the hostess asked for our name and said, "Y'all didn't hear me calling your name." We were sitting only a few steps away from the hostess stand, so it would have been very difficult to miss. After we were seated, she did apologize, but by then the experience had already gotten off to a frustrating start. The restaurant was uncomfortably hot. There was an air conditioned dining area with available seating, yet we were seated in the hot section. We were literally sweating while trying to eat. A restaurant should be a place where you can enjoy your meal, not rush through it because you're overheating. I even forgot the slice of cake I purchased because I just wanted to get outside. The cleanliness also raised concerns. The tables were sticky, the condiment containers were sticky, and my drink had debris floating in it more than once. The bartender replaced it immediately, and I appreciated that, but after seeing debris again along with the condition of the dining area, it made me question the overall cleanliness. The food was okay, but it wasn't memorable enough to make up for everything else. I expected a much better experience based on the reviews. I don't enjoy leaving negative reviews, but this experience fell far below what the reviews led me to expect. I hope management addresses the communication between staff, the cleanliness of the dining area, and the seating process because this restaurant has the potential to provide a much better experience than the one we had. I chose Hannibal's because I wanted to support a well-known local, Black-owned business with an outstanding reputation. That's exactly why this experience was so disappointing. I truly hope management addresses these issues because this restaurant clearly means a lot to the community, and I'd love the opportunity to have the experience so many others have described.

I needed a break from all that Texas BBQ and wanted some true soul food -- the kind that feels like it came straight from someone's grandmother's kitchen. I started with Gail's Soul Food, and let me tell you... I have zero regrets. Every bite was worth it. I showed up around 4:45 PM, just 15 minutes before closing. As soon as I walked in, the lady at the counter hit me with: "We ain't frying nothing 10 minutes before we close." No problem at all, ma'am -- that line alone told me I was in the right place. I simply asked, "Alright then... what can I order?" I went with the smothered pork chops with rice and gravy, collard greens, green beans, and cabbage. BAM! Everything -- and I mean everything -- was excellent. The pork chops were tender, well-seasoned, with a nice touch of garlic and smothered perfectly in gravy. The collards were real collards, not canned (unlike too many places in Texas), and seasoned just right. The cabbage was flavorful, and the green beans were on point too. I also order a turkey wing smothered in gravy and it was also very tasty. The restaurant itself was clean, well-decorated, and welcoming. Even though they were about to close, the staff remained friendly, patient, and committed to giving me great service. That says a lot about their pride and professionalism. I truly enjoyed the food, the atmosphere, and the customer service. I'll definitely be back to try a few more menu items before I head back to Texas.
