We had a great dinner here tonight, we arrived at 5:40 and had a 20 minute wait for a table. Our waitress was very busy, very young, and very efficient. The she crab soup was a tad too thick but had a delicious flavor and a minimal amount of crab. The house salad was pretty large but seemed a bit odd with shredded cheese on top. The hush puppy's as previously reported were definitely delicious with a great flavor. On to the entree, crab stuffed flounder with baked potato and coleslaw was a large amount of food, everything was done well, the flounder and sauce was just perfect, cooked just right with a large piece of fish so good! Key lime pie to finish it off was a tad small for $10. Busy place, decorating is minimal.

Wow! Was super impressed. Came to visit Edisto with my parents ans my fiance. We found this place and decided to try. Wasn't sure about the place because it's literally called The Waterfront Restaurant ...and it's not waterfront. But! We got there around dinner time on a Friday midsummer. They said it would be a 35 minute wait , but it literally took 5 seconds to get a table. Inside is nice, relaxing vibe and decor. Our server greated us very quickly. I decided on the crab cakes, with a side of green beans and fries, with a glass of pinot grigo. The food came out pretty quick and the pour on the glass of wine was on point. The crab cakes were delicious, tasted like fresh crab, great flavor not too salty. Reloulade was a nice touch. The green beans were delicious, perfectly blanched and seasoned lightly. The texture was crips and crunchy just like I like it. The fries were amazing as well, they came in a switly texture, never seen fries like that. But they were crispy and soft. So good, everything was delicious I even tried some of the other food that my family got like the broiled flounder and the grits. The side of grits is legit , cooked with just a bit of butter and with a ton of flavor. I am thoroughly impressed and can't wait to come back next time we are in Edisto. The food made up for the non view. lol

We had fantastic service and great food when we had dinner here while on vacation! Our waitress was busy but still attentive, making sure we had refills or anything else. We ordered the she crab soup for an appetizer only to find out a few minutes later that it might be a little while before it was ready. She brought out some hush puppies that were perfect and even had corn in them! Im not a big fan of hush puppies, but I really liked these! Our waitress communicated well throughout the waiting period, and when it finally came, well worth the wait! Delicious and creamy and so fresh tasting! There was a bit of a wait for pur food. I'm not sure if that's always the case, but maybe plan on the wait to avoid hanger! Overall, really cute place with good food and great staff, we'll be back next time we are in edisto!

We had a wonderful dinner here. The staff are courteous and friendly. We ordered the fried shrimp, fried flounder, shrimp fettuccine Alfredo, and grits. Everything was delicious.

It's a solid place at Edisto Beach . In the summer months they get very busy and there is often a wait . They operate on a first come , first serve basis with no reservation system or call ahead seating available so keep in mind if time is a concern . In the off season , winter months there's typically no wait . The food is pretty good : seafood, steaks & sandwiches offered in a casual, nautical-inspired diner. My favorite thing on the menu is the prime rib ! It is tender , flavorful and delicious . The complimentary hush puppies are also very good , with pieces of corn mixed into the cornmeal . On this most recent visit, I tried the Edisto Mahi : Mahi filet topped with a candied bacon horseradish sauce . The horseradish sauce was good but I felt like the candied bacon was too sweet for the dish and did not compliment the fish well . If you like fried shrimp , they're good here ! Be prepared to pay the kitty tax upon exiting the restaurant with your to-go box . There's a few cats that wait directly outside the restaurant looking adorable hoping for a treat from exiting diners . Our most recent visit we offered them grilled shrimp pieces and mahi . They graciously accepted . Be nice to the restaurant kitties as the owner looks out for them . Check out Waterfront if you are in Edisto !

We had browsed various menus on the island and settled on The Waterfront because of more broiled or grilled options for someone in our party. We arrived at 5 p.m. and were surprised to see others already seated since everywhere online said they opened at 5, but a sandwich board at the restaurant showed 4:30. We were still seated right away. Despite being named Waterfront, there's no water views, but it definitely has a sea theme and is a couple of blocks from the ocean. Our server was great. She was busy, but very attentive and answered any questions we had. Now onto the food. I ordered a crab cake for an appetizer and was excited that they also gave us complimentary hush puppies which had corn and onion in it. The crab cake was delicious. A lot of crab and balance of seasoning and veggies. I got the shrimp and grits as my entree. It was also very good. Shrimp was cooked perfectly and grits with Tasso gravy were flavorful. The green beans were the featured vegetable and were okay. The others in my party ordered the stuffed flounder and said it was good as well. The food did take a while to come out. The place was slammed, but it was at least 45 minutes after we ordered that our food came out. It was a good experience overall.

Combo plate (broiled shrimp & fried oysters) with red rice and green beans.

Arrived at opening (5:00pm) to friendly service and our food came out quickly. Absolutely delicious (even the green beans!) lol Our party was of six, all ordered a variety and all left full.

Ordering was quick and easy with no issues at all. When we arrived, we waited a short bit at the bar while the food was being prepared, but nothing too bad. Overall, the food was pretty good! The crab bisque was delicious and definitely one of my favorite things we ordered. The crab cake was tasty too, although it was a little more breaded than I personally prefer. The fried stuffed bacon-wrapped shrimp was probably the biggest disappointment of the meal, but not terrible. My friend enjoyed her food she ordered, though I can't remember the exact name of it. Service was decent -- nothing over-the-top amazing, but the staff wasn't rude either, so I'll take it! Overall, I'd give Whaley's about a 3.5 to 4-star experience. I'd probably go back, and if you're in the area looking for a convenient seafood spot near the beach, I'd say give them a shot!

(This is considered the early side of Spring Break.) Adair was our server, and was prompt and friendly! He was all we could have wanted in an efficient server. I was disappointed that the only water they served was bottled. Therefore, Pinot Grigio it was!!!! We received drink orders promptly and Adair asked for our food orders. We were an easy group. Two shrimp baskets with raw fries (which to the unaware are house made chips), a Fried flounder basket with regular fries, and two kids cheeseburgers, with regular fries. The seafood orders also come with slaw and hush puppies. Later, Adair told us they were out of hush puppies. Adair went the extra mile and brought me a bottled water due to HIS perceived wait for our food. The fried shrimp were "gulf size" and perfectly cooked! Breading was light and not overdone! The founder was tender and flaky, the cole slaw was not of the "food processor" variety, and the fries were good, (crinkle cut). This was a very good "family trip" restaurant stop. We generally cook every night, this restaurant needed to provide the "shrimp" cravings of two of us! We will return on future visits!!! This is a place that has been around since 1948. Just know the venue is in an old gas station which suited me!!!! My daddy was a Gulf oil dealer in the 60's-1980's. Enjoy!

No one has been able to keep a restaurant, especially a high end restaurant, running though many have attempted it. It's a nice space, but it's a large space and staffing has always been a problem. The only gripe I would have is that the menus are printed in black on dark brown paper so the iPhone flashlight is a necessity and the sheets are still hard to read. I had an excellent gin martini. About the right size with good olives and well chilled. Friend had a Tito's martini which he thought quite good. The wine list isn't crazy long, but it seems more that adequate and was reasonable priced by the glass and bottle. Mine was an Italian PINO Grigio that went well with scallops and grouper bites. The grouper bites were very good. Could have been crisper but that would require a different batter, more like a tempura, but that's not really in the tradition. Scallops... six on a small bed on mushroom risotto with a with a thin white sauce that I did not identify but was strong on butter. Risotto was very competently done and scallops were perfectly done. Friend had a salad that would have fed three. His sea bass was another very successful rendition. Thick and browned just right. The diner on my right(we sat at the bar) had a ribeye that looked to be all a ribeye can be. Came with a compound butter. My desert turned out to be an affogato, vanilla ice cream with a shot of espresso and Kailua poured over. They call it something else, but it is affogato all the same. The check was big for Edisto, but slightly less than it would have been in Charleston without the travel. All in all, a worthwhile experience. I plan to go back with Laura regularly if they can keep it up.
