We noticed this new restaurant, so decided to check it out... First of all, the place was surprisingly nice. Very open, lofty space with sleek, black furnishings, and lots of striking artwork. The place was also nicely air conditioned...and even featured good, beachy overhead music. The foods were typical Lowcountry Fish Camp type foods, specializing in Oysters...but quite delish. My husband had the Edisto Island Oysters, and they were quite unique...in that Oysters came topped with bacon bits. I had the Chicken & Waffles, with a choice side (Mac 'n Cheese)...and they too were unique in how the Waffle was extra crispy and sweet (no syrup or butter needed!). We also enjoyed their thick 'n creamy Lowcountry Chowder, nicely cut Fried Okra and the complimentary Corn Bread, which was SO creamy and sweet. However, the downside was that the bread came out a tad too crumbly and messy, and a bit hard to eat. Still, we really enjoyed everything we ordered...and thought the foods were MUCH better than what you'd find in a typical Edisto restaurant. The only thing I thought could improve a bit was the presentation of the foods...as most came out a bit sloppy. It looked as if some of foods were just carelessly dumped unto the plate. I actually had to "primp" up my Chicken and Waffle plate before taking pictures. If the presentation was a bit finer, I would have dropped 5 stars. Lastly, the service was solid. Our waitress was super-friendly, and the foods came out quickly. Overall, we were really impressed with this new place, and vowed to return on our future trips.

Came a second time just a few days later. Everything was good. New things we tried was the Pimento pork chop, pecan pork chop, tomato pie and Parmesan Groper. The new items were accompanied by some we already knew we liked. Still recommend and Curtis is still an amazing server. Tonight he was very busy but kept everyone happy. The bar was a little louder from extra people but otherwise very nice.

The lay out feels like it needs to be reconfigured

After being at Edisto for a few days, we were wondering if we were going to get good service and good food...we found it! We came in at opening (5pm) and it was quick to be seated, however I imagine you'd have a long wait later on....VERY LIMITED SEATNG Fried chicken with a side of gravy...maybe should be added to the menu as chicken fried chicken! The waffle was crunchy and delish The kids shrimp was a plate full and delish I wish the collards were cooked with meat and brown sugar...they were ok The low country chowder was delish!! Ok...last thing...the cornbread was ‼ I wanted more...& I didn't care how crumbly it was, we ate it with a fork! The server was great...Curtis was happy we were here and gave exceptional service with a smile. Best we've had here!

There are a lot of weird things going on with this restaurant. I know they just opened so I am definitely giving them the benefit of the doubt, but we had a very strange experience when we visited recently. We had a group of six and were told that they would not be able to seat us because they can't add any additional chairs to their tables for "safety reasons". The restaurant is laid out very strangely. The space is huge but the tables are packed in along the side next to the bar and then there's a huge open space with only four hightop tables. It seem like they need to get more tables in there but maybe they don't have enough staff? I'm not sure. It also seems like they don't have enough chairs, especially for the bar as one whole side of the bar was nearly empty and people were gathered around almost hunger game style, hoping to snag a chair as soon as one opened up. The service was friendly, but slow as it seemed like maybe they were only one or two servers for the entire restaurant. The outside of the restaurant advertises seafood, and Raw Bar, but they were only really three options. The only shrimp available was either part of the lowcountry boil or shrimp cocktail. The seafood options are surprisingly scarce. In the main entrees with only clam pasta, grouper, and blackened mahi. I ordered the country fried steak with a side of mac & cheese and lima beans, and was disappointed when the country fried steak came out looking like something you'd get out of a box from the freezer section. The mac & cheese was fine and the lima beans were probably the highlight of what we tried. We had ordered raw oysters for the table and they were great. a friend got the shrimp cocktail, which only came with about five shrimp, which was not very many for the price tag. The menu has a whole feature on the flowers family and their seafood legacy, which I found confusing because there was a lack of traditional seafood options. My friend ordered the blackened mahi bc it came with a mango salsa, which they were out of but no one told us until the dish came out with no sauces on it. I know they said they were trying to differentiate themselves from other places on the island, but it seems like you should still have some of the traditional things available as well. We had also gotten the pimento cheese as an appetizer, and I was surprised to find that they put olives in it, which I had never seen before. All in all I think this restaurant could be really good. They just need to figure a few things out first.

Ordering was quick and easy with no issues at all. When we arrived, we waited a short bit at the bar while the food was being prepared, but nothing too bad. Overall, the food was pretty good! The crab bisque was delicious and definitely one of my favorite things we ordered. The crab cake was tasty too, although it was a little more breaded than I personally prefer. The fried stuffed bacon-wrapped shrimp was probably the biggest disappointment of the meal, but not terrible. My friend enjoyed her food she ordered, though I can't remember the exact name of it. Service was decent -- nothing over-the-top amazing, but the staff wasn't rude either, so I'll take it! Overall, I'd give Whaley's about a 3.5 to 4-star experience. I'd probably go back, and if you're in the area looking for a convenient seafood spot near the beach, I'd say give them a shot!

(This is considered the early side of Spring Break.) Adair was our server, and was prompt and friendly! He was all we could have wanted in an efficient server. I was disappointed that the only water they served was bottled. Therefore, Pinot Grigio it was!!!! We received drink orders promptly and Adair asked for our food orders. We were an easy group. Two shrimp baskets with raw fries (which to the unaware are house made chips), a Fried flounder basket with regular fries, and two kids cheeseburgers, with regular fries. The seafood orders also come with slaw and hush puppies. Later, Adair told us they were out of hush puppies. Adair went the extra mile and brought me a bottled water due to HIS perceived wait for our food. The fried shrimp were "gulf size" and perfectly cooked! Breading was light and not overdone! The founder was tender and flaky, the cole slaw was not of the "food processor" variety, and the fries were good, (crinkle cut). This was a very good "family trip" restaurant stop. We generally cook every night, this restaurant needed to provide the "shrimp" cravings of two of us! We will return on future visits!!! This is a place that has been around since 1948. Just know the venue is in an old gas station which suited me!!!! My daddy was a Gulf oil dealer in the 60's-1980's. Enjoy!

Started with crab cake, which was a good size and perfectly prepared with a nice aioli sauce and a few greens. Followed with the house salad - fresh ingredients and standard dressing. Wrapped things up the Flounder Sandwich. Ordered it blackened. Nice slab of fish on perfect bun with lettuce, tomato and onions. Delicious fish. Serving staff were very friendly. Atmosphere was warm and cozy like you would expect from island life. Couple of odd things happened that were new for us. We were charged for water, $1.50 per glass. Additionally, we were charged extra for blackened seasoning, $1.50 on the fish and finally we were charged a 3% premium for credit card use. This was our first meal in the island so didn't understand if these fees were usual and customary or specific to this establishment. Highly recommend without any reservations.

On our first trip to Edisto, we figured we'd try one of the central dining spots in town. Apparently, we chose violence. We started with the Crab Cake appetizer. Now, my understanding of a crab cake is that it's supposed to be pan-fried with a nice crispy exterior. What arrived at our table was more of a warm seafood pudding. If the chef was going for "ocean-flavored mush," they absolutely nailed it. For my entrée, I ordered the "Surf & Turf." Apparently, the restaurant has a very creative interpretation of that phrase. The dish only includes the Turf. If you'd like the Surf (you know, the thing that makes it a Surf & Turf), that's an extra $7. By that logic, I suppose a car dealership could sell you a "Car & Tires" package and then charge extra for the tires. The steak was advertised as being "grilled to perfection." I ordered it medium-rare. What arrived was medium to medium-well. After cutting into it, I showed the waitress, who agreed that perfection had apparently called in sick that day. She took it back and promised a replacement. Ten to fifteen minutes later (and several rounds of "It's almost ready!"), the sequel arrived. Shockingly, Steak Part II was cooked exactly like Steak Part I. At this point, the waitress explained they had a new chef who apparently hadn't yet unlocked the "medium-rare" achievement. Now here's the fun part: this steak cost $48. Forty-eight dollars. Let that sink in for a moment. Forty-eight dollars. Not for one poorly cooked steak. For TWO poorly cooked steaks. And somehow, despite this culinary magic trick, there was no apology, no manager visit, no discount, no offer to make things right. Nothing. And yes, I ate the second steak. At $48, I wasn't about to donate my daily protein intake to the trash can. That's not surrender, that's financial recovery. In the end, I paid premium steakhouse prices for a masterclass in disappointment. It was a remarkable combination of wasted money, wasted time, and wasted calories. The good news? Edisto has plenty of other restaurants. My recommendation is to try literally any of them first, and avoid The Waterfront Restaurant by any means possible.

I got a cup of the she crab soup which was good but the same time there were cold pieces of crab. Not sure that's how it's supposed to be served but it was good. We ordered the fried shrimp platter dinner. The two of us shared it and I was surprised that it's quite a bit of a large order and the shrimp were a good size. Other places I've gone in the island have been tiny shrimps. Typically, I am known to eat a portion made for two so I was impressed with the size of the shrimp and that meal filled up the two of us. I recommend giving it a try.
