Passed by this restaurant and yelped it is the top 1 , so we decided to give a try. We ordered a mimosa and beer, arugula poached egg salad and breakfast burger. Could not get our drinks for a long time, wanted to ask the waitress again but couldn't find any waiter around. Lol we asked another waiter to bring our drinks and apparently our waitress forgot our drink order. There were only 4 tables in the restaurant at that time. :( Anyway, our food was amazing! My husband loved the burger, very juicy. My salad was fantastic as well, you can tell from my pic. Lol Will come back if we have the chance in future. read more

It's a cool neighborhood spot that is owned by the same people as Jack & Nellie's across the street. The place is not that big but it's a nice place to eat if you are in the area. The food: Mexican Quesadilla- Grilled steak, Oaxaca, Jalapeno, w/ pico de gallo, guacamole, sour cream & guajillo sauce. The original has chicken but I upgraded for the steak with the recommendation of the waitress and I thought this was great. It was weird seeing a Mexican Quesadilla in an American restaurant but all the flavors really worked. The quesadilla was made well, all the flavors melded together and I really loved their homemade sauces in particular their pico de gallo. The steak was nicely flavored and nicely tender. Ahhh...I am so disappointed with this place. I thought the food here would have been so good and it so wasn't. Just this past Sunday I came here for brunch, we were seated right away and our waiter was very inventive throughout our time here. So service was excellent. I ordered chicken and waffles and my friend had the egg Benedict. The chicken and waffles was super wack. The chicken was basically chicken fingers which would be ok if they were the best chicken fingers ever but they were subpar and the waffles were dry and rubbery with no flavor. The gravy I thought would be a nice touch but it didn't go well with the chicken fingers at all. It was just blahh. My friend was being a good sport and tried to get through his egg Benedict but couldn't even get through half of it lol so I don't think he enjoyed his meal either. As for the drinks, I had a grapefruit brunch drink with vodka, it was yummy. Not too sweet but strong. I also had a flavored mimosa but I forgot the flavor lol. That was yummy as well. As Power Of One, I usually sit at the bar alone with a pen and my notebook inscribing poetic versus or journaling thoughts- particularly intake the cool air conditioning. Rosé wine $6.00 (at Happy Hour rate) Arugula grilled chicken salad $15.00 Pork fried pork dumplings - 5 pcs for $3.00, Bar Bites special My server, Fernando is attentive, courteous and welcoming. Two TV screens plaster the bar walls as one is tune-in to Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt speed away like light to the finish line in Rio 2016. The salad was adequate and gets the job done for dinner. The fried pork dumplings appeared like inflated mini balls with a hard outer shell and dry interior. The Rosé wine put me in a dreamy state to whisk me to Bordeaux, France as it was chilled cool to the proper serving temperature. Business cards and takeout menus are available. Hooks are available for bags and personal belongings under the bar counter. Facility is clean. Note: Happy Hour is daily 3 pm to 8 pm. Love Rove! So glad it's back. This was the last place we ate before the lockdown - we ate there the day it went into place. Returned for the first time, and it's like we never left. We may be eating outdoors, but it just adds to the experience. I love what forest hills has done so restaurants like Rove can operate. Their food was as good as its ever been, and they've done a lot to make you feel safe. Disposable dish wear really makes a difference. So glad we went and can't wait to return. New place to try out on Austin Street if and when in Forest Hills! We came here for brunch and I was in love with the simplicity yet comfortable and welcoming feeling of this place. We had a few mimosas, bloody Mary's, white wine, egg white, as well as chicken with waffles... The serving portion was filling and tasted quite well. Our bartender Diego and staff were amazing. They were such friendly folks and provided remarkable services. I'm looking forward to visit again for brunch and wouldn't mind trying out their dinner selection. I would definitely recommend for a date if you are looking for somewhere hip, but quiet and intimate. Definitely family friendly where you can occupy the table section. This review is only for the bar area, not the food. I've been here twice for drinks only. The Bloody Marias (yes, Marias... tequila instead of vodka) that I had were good. The bartender was attentive and super friendly. The bar itself is interestingly decorated. All the tvs had different sports on in the bar area. Great for a Sunday afternoon drink. 2 year anniversary for my hubby and I! We came here for brunch to celebrate. With covid19, they make you order before you sit. Everyone is 6 ft apart and they serve you everything in disposable cups & plates. The service was fast and the brunch was so good. I ordered the steak and eggs with white sangria. Yum! Rove is one of the best restaurants on Austin St. for the price. The food is high quality with some deliciously unique spins on classics like the grilled cheese, salmon fillets and even burgers. The Rove burger is a must. More than anything, the service is terrific. The staff are very warm and receptive, and the owner is usually there making sure everything is running smooth. I visited Rove a few times recently, and was satisfied with my service and food on both occasions. The first time, my girlfriend and I both enjoyed burgers, where she had the quesadilla burger. On the second occasion, we enjoyed similar style beer, as well as more drinks with friends. On both occasions the food was great, and the beers good. The only thing I wish was that there was a greater selection of food, although, it is possible that the restaurant trimmed the food down to only the essentials to draw attention to the beer. Overall, the restaurant was nice, although it could definitely use air condition in the summer time. It got pretty sweaty towards the end of our meal. I think the wait staff, being as friendly and helpful as they were, is what definitely added to the experience. read more

Don't try to understand the decor, but do come for the food and drink. Long happy hours are a nice thing, too! Try a craft beer. We had a cheeseburger and a chicken sandwich. Choice of salad or fries and the fries could be regular, Cajun, sweet or parmesan. We went for regular and Cajun. The sandwiches were tasty but I prefer more "meat" on my fries rather than the shoestring type, but they were fried just right. This is the perfect place to take a date or even chill with a few friends after a long day....vibe is very laid back, dim lights and mellow music. I come here when I really want to relax and have a nice glass of wine and unwind from the day. They always have wine specials and the wine selection is really good... the house Chardonnay (which is not on the happy hour list) is the best but only a few dollars more, it's strong and definitely worth it. The food is good. I never had a full dinner but the finger foods and sandwiches are good. The staff is knowledgeable and accommodating. Some advice, they don't take Amex so keep that in mind if that's your main card for going out. I like this place because it's alot more low key than the other spots on Austin street. read more

We were in Forest Hills for a Friday evening happy hour and decided to grab some food and drinks at Rove. They had drink specials until 8pm that included certain beer for $5 and $6 for house wine and well drinks. The food options were your typical bar fare, burgers, sandwiches, and a handful of entrees. When we arrived at 7pm, both the bar and restaurant section were full, but the wait wasn't too bad. I ordered the fish fry ($15), which is only available on Fridays. They offered a choice of either cod or shrimp - I opted for cod. I was also able to substitute regular fries for Cajun fries with chipotle mayo for an extra $1. The fried cod was crispy and well seasoned. My only complaint is the portion size; it came with just four small pieces of cod. read more

So i've been here plenty of times with my bf and have even brought my family and friend Pete here.. I always opt for the black bean patty and have gotten their pasta once before. Everything always coming out great. The only thing that sucked was my mom finding a hair in her patty because she's SUPER critical of restaurants but she overlooked it, as do I because we know this restaurant is GREAT and these things happen here and there. Yuck! First the good: nice interior. Pleasant and friendly server. Water replenished frequently. Now the rest: cheese board was a fraud - Brie (wedge) and smoked Gouda (sliced) straight from the package. Old grapes. Cheap jam from a jar. Black olives right from the can - no flavor. Crostini were passable. I asked for no meat and they said they substitute with extra grapes. They didn't and wouldn't have Ben edible anyway. Friend had chicken gyro. Sliced grilled chicken breast on the dry side in a pita with lettuce and tomatoes. Boring. Don't waste your time when there is so much more offered on Austin street. read more

First time having brunch in Forest Hills and I realize how much I love this area. We came right as they opened and thought we'd be the only ones there, but this place got packed, quick! The brunch menu is small, but has enough to cover every possible craving. From chicken and waffles to steak and eggs, they had everything in between. I had the steak and eggs and was pretty satisfied with my dish. It's pretty basic, you can't really go wrong with it. Came with a side of fries that were thin cut and crunchy, just how i love them. We enjoyed white wine sangria that was nice and fruity, but definitely could have been stronger. I automatically have respect for any bar/restaurant that has an impressive beer selection. Rove is a bit on the smaller side with a bar with plenty of seating but only a few tables. The menu at the bar area is different than that at the table but if you're nice, they might let you swap. Also tabs do not carry over from bar to table so keep that in mind when you're seated. The wait on a Thursday was not long, which was surprising considering we had 8 people attending. I went with a Montauk as my choice of beer. I heard the house red was surprisingly good. The beers are written on a chalkboard so they can be switched out but they also have the usuals for $3 during happy hour (EVERY DAY FROM 3-8! WHAAAT!). We started with the bruschetta which had gorgonzola in it...It was delicious! It packed so many flavors into one bite. The dumplings are actually mini empanadas. Still tasty but on the small side. I had the crispy chicken as my entree. It was served with mashed potatoes with carrots mashed in (very good) and asparagus (which I was happy about since the menu lists zucchini and I love asparagus but HATE zucchini). The chicken was very good and the batter they use is light. Someone else in our group had the pasta special which was penne a la vodka, they said that was great along with the soup of the day (tomato). The salmon salad looked fresh and delicious. The cheeseburger appeared to be great and perfectly cooked. Clean bathrooms, friendly waitstaff and bartender, prices are not totally crazy. I'll come back. read more

I'm a sucker for a perfect cheeseburger. There is something spectacular about a place that knows how to just make a regular burger taste amazing. Rove delivered. My dad got the bourbon burger which he also loved and my mom got a rove salad with salmon which she enjoyed. The ambiance is cute, service was great and the food delicious. Deceptive advertising! Sign on sidewalk says "Beers $5" during their 3-8pm Happy Hours. Yet, *none* of their approx. eight drafts are $5 (they're all regular price, and more expensive). And they singled out about 4 12-oz bottles (not pints, mind you!) from their bottled selection that were $5. What a scam! Wonder what kinds of deception and 'shortcuts' they use on the rest of their menu! They should say "Select beers $5" at the very least. It was our first time here and many of the places were closed on Columbus Day so we decided to give this place a try. I ordered grilled chicken arugula salad which was okay. Nothing special. My wife ordered seared salmon which came with mash potato. She enjoyed it a lot while my son got Mac and cheese kids meal. The Mac and cheese came with broccoli within the Mac and cheese. Luckily my son likes broccoli so he didn't mind. I would say the portions on all our plates were smaller than what I had expected. I think a lot had to do with the crammed presentation. I dined at Rove with friends many times pre-Covid and we always had a good experience. Recently I visited Rove to dine/drink outdoors due to Covid 19 restrictions. There were three empty tables in front. When I asked for a table the hostess told me that I must first place order before being seated, similar to fast food restaurants. This was an immediate turn off for I assumed this is their method to rush diners. Rather than set dining time limits like most other restaurants management instead chose to deflate the dining experience by forcing you order up front. My friends and I decided to leave and dine at a nearby restaurant with plenty of outdoor seating with no rush treatment. I reduced my rating to 3 stars for this poor management decision. Ordered a "Size 9" drink, my partner had a beer. His meal was a Rove Burger and mine was the dinner special, which was Buttermilk Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, peas and carrots. If you're a fan of brunch at Jack and Nellie's, which I am, then you'll love their sister restaurant, Rove. Only a block from J&N, we discovered it because of the brunch overflow at J&N. I ordered Eggs Benedict, my friend got eggs and ribeye steak. The Eggs Benedict were perfect and delicious. My friends steak was accurately cooked to order, as were the scrambled eggs. She was very happy, said everything was very tasty. Excellent coffee, excellent service, I highly recommend it. Be aware if you are a Lipton tea lover, that they only serve Earl Grey along with a few other flavors. They accept all major credit cards except American Express.
