a variety of food items on a table

Was in with my bf Astoria searching for another place to eat at but it was closed. Came across Roti Boti and was not disappointed. The cashier/service worker explained the menu and gave a good recommendation. We had the chicken curry, butter chicken, rice, pita bread and beef on the steak. Both the chicken curry and steak had a spice to it, that was delicious. I liked the sauce texture of the creamy chicken. The pita bread was big and enough for two people to split. The place is cute and cozy nothing fancy. If I am in the area again I would go back.

Menu

Food was good, one of the dal dishes was really delicious, especially with the basmati. The others were very spicy. It was a bit hard to understand the differences between different dishes as the employee said they were similar and none of them very spicy, which wasn't our experience--they really varied. They were kind nonetheless, especially the owner/chef. The garlic naan had some kick as well. The samosas were a bit underwhelming. They were out of a number of things due to the time of day. Would return to try the pakora and onion kulcha.

Vomit smelling buttered chicken

So i have been going to this restaurant forever. Recently to celebrate my homecoming, my husband purchased about $120. Worth of food and since we live 35 min away, we didn't eat right away, but still when I went to open the buttered chicken container it was already popped open bc of some fermentation going on and it smelled like vomit on a whole new level! I'm making it easy for you, never again!

I had a habit of walking to Jackson Heights from Astoria for Indian food. And then I found Roti Boti.

Love the food here. Big portions and always flavorful! Chicken tika masala over rice with nan is my favorite thing to get here.

They just expanded....I hope it's still good! You know what they say to little "hole in the wall" restaurants when they get big!

Lahori Kabab Restaurant - Two warmed chicken samosas - a firm favorite

The chicken was fresh and tasty but I could manage only half and had it packed. Now the naans here are not the delicate fragrant ones at fancy Indian restaurants. These are thick ones with or without ghee smeared on top (to request) meant for the lumberjack. Here these are in the form of cab drivers and delivery men who need sustenance and no froo froo cuisine. The gender neutral restroom is in my opinion the "Black hole of Calcutta." For men, it may be passable but for women absolutely verboten to enter. At a pinch, go to Kalustiyan where there is a restroom up the stairs. Ideally only should buy something before asking to powder one's nose. Service at Lahori is fine.

I love tasting new restaurants and wanted to stop by this place . Fantastic location . Right in the heart of Lexington Avenue . Lots of other restaurants nearby. Lots of space inside to sit and eat . Even though the ambience is not that great , it's ok for a quick lunch .. service could be better. All guys go inside the kitchen and hardly come out . Wish they had a bell or something in the counter outside for the customers to call them . Sometimes you keep waiting for many minutes before they come out . For the price , food was good . They have many food items on display and we chose some curries .. quantity was good . Naan , white rice and 2 non veg curries for 13.50$. Not bad. ... goat curry was good . Perfect Lahori taste . Chicken curry was average . Could have tasted better . My only issue is presentation. The y just mix all curries in rice and they are smashed all across the plate . Wish they give these curries in separate containers so we can enjoy the flavor of each curries . Another thing is they just reheat these curries . They are precooked . Sometimes with that , we wouldn't know if it is fresh . It tasted fresh though. Overall a good restaurant but giving them 3 stars . Will visit again and check and improve my ratings if needed

The Jani Burger was amazing, perfectly cooked, with great pakistani flavor, and it was refreshing not to have a smash burger for once. The lamb chops were also cooked to perfection, perfect medium rare, super tender and very flavorful. The Nihari sandwich was also great, however I wish there was a little more unique flavor to it. The masala fries are alright, but I'd say you can skip those. On top of the great food, this service was even better. The staff was so friendly, checking in on us and even offering us a free mango lassi drink. The restaurant itself is comfortably casual with heat lamps inside, which is nice to have on a cold day, I imagine. i definitely recommend!

We at this on the sidewalk so it was still fresh when we got it. But for us the food just didn't hit. I recognize it's fusion, but maybe the way things were meant to be balanced didn't mesh. The (impossible burger patty) lahori felt quite bland. Maybe because the burger patty was so thick, but it just kind of was overwhelmed by generic beef patty taste which wasn't what I was expecting. The nihari had some really good flavor, but I found the bread was somehow both quite dry and soggy at the same time. It's hard to describe, but I felt like it was working against the actual nihari flavor. Sadly I do think something like naan or basmati rice would've been better. The fries were pretty unremarkable, too. Just tasted like fries you'd get at your local bodega. I don't expect the wheel to be reinvented when it comes to fusion restaurants, but I just felt nothing actually balanced themselves well (at least for what we ordered). For $50 pre-tip, I'm a bit disappointed. This place has been on my hit list for a while, but I can't see myself wanting to go back. Staff was friendly and the space, albeit small, can fit groups of 2-4 pretty easily. I have a few friends that really like this place, so maybe I'm just the odd one out.

I found out about Zaika Kitchen Food Truck recently and saw that they have pani puri (also known as…read moregol gappa) on their menu and they open early. I immediately knew I had to go check this spot out. I've never had pani puri before and I've always wondered what it tasted like since it's such a popular street food in India. So I went recently and got their six pieces of pani puri which came out to be around $7. I also wanted to get their vegetable samosa but since I went early during the day, they were still frozen. Once I got my food, I went to a nearby park to try the pani puri. It came with a spicy, tangy water too which I used to pour a little into the puri. The first bite was like an explosion of flavors in my mouth, there was sweet, spicy, sour, and hints of aromatic notes. It was quite delicious. Now, it wasn't mind-blowing or anything. I actually thought it tasted like something I've had before. Or I don't know, maybe it's because I eat hummus and chickpeas pretty often so that's probably why I didn't think the pani puri tasted like anything new to me. I also did not know that pani puri is supposed to be eaten cold/room temperature, I was surprised because for some reason, I thought it was supposed to be served warm. But aside from that, I still enjoyed the meal and appreciate that it wasn't extremely spicy.

Jackson Heights has no shortage of great Southeast Asian food, so I was excited to give this spot a try. They have dine-in option and plenty of seating upstairs while the downstairs is just for takeout and was much busier. The Steamed Chicken Momos were satisfying, warm, and well-seasoned. There was a bit too much dough for my liking but I did enjoy the flavors. The Tandoori Mix was a nice assortment of various cuts of chicken & beef. Many of the pieces were on the dry side but again, the flavor was there. The Goat Shinwari Karahi is definitely worth getting. The goat was super tender and aromatic and the karahi is fragrant and made well. It's super greasy which I didn't like, and it wasn't served with anything. If you want rice/naan on the side, you need to add that on yourself. Nonetheless, for ~$20, it's still a great deal. The Chicken Biryani was fluffy, aromatic & fragrant, and filled with a good portion of chicken. This was the base for the other dishes we got and truly paired well with everything. The portion was perfect for 4 people and at ~$14, that's an unbeatable price! I also loved the Sesame Naan which scooped up the karahi sauce so well! The Kashmiri Tea here is so good! The pistachios are well incorporated so you don't feel like you're chewing so much while sipping, and the tea is rich & soothing. It's definitely cheap comfort food and we left feeling fill & satisfied but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. Solid try!

However, recently when my uncle was in town and staying close to LaGuardia, it only made sense to pay an old friend a visit and take a trip down memory lane. Not much has changed here since the decades have passed us by other than perhaps the sighting of more and more non-brown people in the family dining hall as Mayor Mamdani has put this Jackson Heights institution on the map. We weren't really in the mood for a lot of food so our order was pretty simple - a single order of goat karahi, seekh kabab and some naan. Goat karahi came out fresh and hot. I will say it was more on the greasier side, lots of oil to fish through, and the goat couldve been a bit more tender but the flavor was on point. Naan was warm and fluffy, and the kabab were spiced just right although I feel they need to be a little juicier. We washed this down with chai which was really good but more on the milkier side. I can't wait to return and re-familiarize myself with their menu offerings. Maybe I'll give the biryani a try next time, I've heard it's pretty good here!
