Looks like I'm not alone having a bad experience with Roth Heating! 3-Strikes, You're OUT! I had Roth replace a Coleman heat pump system with a completely new York system including the furnace/blower section Summer 2012. Strike 1: I cleared out the garage where the installation work would be going on except for the freshly primer'd hood of my '51 Chevy which was on sawhorses in an out of the way corner. Somehow, during installation Roth tech's managed to splatter a significant amount of some kind of oil on the floor and the hood! Roth grudgingly paid for a pint of primer with no regard for the half-day of work to sand and re-work. Strike2: Last winter during a particularly cold stretch we were getting NO heat. A Roth tech came out and spent several hours to determine that during installation they forgot to hook up the auxilliary heat coils! After this point we had minimal heat with the system working full-time; the registers were warm, but not really blowing - see Strike 3. Strike 3: Last month Roth came out for the annual free system checkup and I stayed home to discuss the issue of minimal heating/cooling with the "Expert" Tech. I told him that the system was working 100% all day to just get the house to 71 on an 85 day. He ignored my concern (what do I know?), checked out the system, and in the writeup for the call scolded me for "stacking" two low-density filters and explained that I could not expect the system to cool to 65 on a 90degree day (which - I think it COULD do by the way). I sent an email reply to four Roth addresses that were cc'd on my invoice stating my dissatisfaction and clarifying the fact that I was NOT trying to cool my house to 65 on a 90 degree day... no reply. Still having cool air - but not blowing hard. Soon after, the system started making a squealing noise. I finally took the cover off to discover that the insulation on the inlet side of the blower had come loose and was sucked against the blower, completely plugging it. The squeal was from air whistling through a small rip in the center of the plug. The only air to my house was coming from the motor-side of the blower - probably ~25% of normal. I ripped out the offending insulation to see that a careless small squirt of glue was all that had been applied to that insulation square which would normally be within 2 inches of a huge blower inlet. I sent Roth a picture of the mangled insulation and an explanation of Strike 3 - no reply. Having read the other reviews here it is obvious that quality and customer service is LOWEST priority with Roth. Today my registers blow! and the system can cool or heat the entire house to the desired temperature within a few hours. Needless to say, Roth has lost my business and actually inspires NEGATIVE recommendations. read more

We just had "the works" done to our 1922 craftsman house. Garth Hepler was first to come to our house and work up a bid. His knowledge of older houses and how to properly update the system was comforting and accurate. He talked through all the options and helped us create a heating system that fit our needs. It took three days to remove the old oil furnace and duct work and install a whole new gas furnace, gas line, duct work, supply and return vents... in other words, "The Works!" The crew was led by Kenny E., assisted by Chad A. and Jesse L., who did a fantastic job! Weaving the duct-work through an old basement like ours was not easy, but it looks so nice now! Every register was a custom fit, which they did such a nice job adapting to the old registers. They showed up right on time every day and were kind and courteous of our house and dog. Here was the kicker: At the end of day three, the time came to fire up the new system. With a small glitch in the system, a technician was called to figure out the problem. At this point, we had dinner plans that we couldn't cancel on. The crew left except Kenny, who told me he wanted to stay until the technician arrived and the job was completed. It was a Friday night and Kenny stayed till almost 8pm... keep in mind, he hadn't left our house since he had arrived at 8am that morning. He ended up locking up the house and texting my cell phone (by our request) when he had finished. Truly above and beyond work displayed by Kenny and his crew! Our house is warm and cozy and we love the end product. We couldn't be more happy with the work that was done. Every person along the way, from the people answering the phone at the office to the follow-up technician, was professional and helpful. We could not be happier with the quality of work and character of people this company employs. read more

Job 461916520 On 7/29/2025, we sent a summary of our issues with our heating system installed entirely by Roth's to Samantha, Roth's Project Advisor, Complaint Division. I have a copy of it I'm referring to. Summary follows. In 2025 we paid $16,737.44 for a new HVAC system, plus additions that inclucded signing up for annual service / maintenance plan for our primary residence and an additional home we own, and duct cleaning for two homes. We had Roth's replace an old oil furnace with a Goodman Air Handler unit. We were also persuaded to replace our eleven-year-old heat pump (which was working fine) with a new unit. Summary: many issues with noise of unit, which was explained to us after installation. We should have been warned this would be an issue. Ecobee thermostat is problematic and continues to present problems. (I strongly discourage anyone from getting this thermostat). Installation of an ugly nine-foot gutter on W end of our home for 220 v wiring and copper tubing should have been run through the garage. A typed summary of our issues with the new system was delivered to Samantha on 7/29/2025. More recently: 2/27/26, my husband send documentation through your site and I have a copy here I'm referring to. Here is an excerpt. We are continuing to have issues with our HVAC systems. We are getting an alert on our thermostat that says "Auxilary heat running too long" and says "your aux heat has been on for three plus hours over the past 24 hours." This is the same problem your tech was supposed to fix the last time he was here, so this has been an ongoing issue." Note: I am posting this update so you understand there is a history here, and we are still unhappy with the work and support service. Thank you. I called Roth to fix the cold water supply line to my washing machine. The valves controlling the water supply to the washing machine were 30+ years old. I have wanted to change them out for sometime, so the plumber from Roth and I agreed this would be a much needed maintenance task that would also resolve the cold water supply line to the washing machine. The plumber, Brandon, explained what he was going to do, how long it would take, and got to work. After he finished he told me there was something wrong with the original plumbing and that the new water supply valves were only part of the problem. The problem sounded bazar, but in keeping with other problems we have had with the plumbing on that side of the house I was not surprised as we are the original owners of this house since 1992. Brandon had Ron, the Service Manager, come out and look at this bazar job. The three of us talked about it and Ron said, "Let's make it right. This old plumbing clearly is not our fault, but it is our responsibility to make it right." When I asked him how much the additional work would cost he said, "Nothing." I was very surprised and happy. Brandon got to work doing the fix that Ron suggested and in no time the problem was resolved! Resolved at NO additional expense. This is what I call 'good old-fashioned service' that in my experience (I am 71 years old) is not common anymore. Lastly, I usually don't write reviews like this. But in this case Roth hit it out of the park. Brandon and Ron are outstanding in their trade and their customer service. I am whole heartedly recommending Roth for all your plumbing needs. Call Roth. We contacted a couple different companies to get a quote for A/C installation and were put in touch with Roth Heating & Cooling through Costco. Rolf (the sales rep) thoroughly explained the different units they had available and gave his suggestion on the best unit for us. He didn't pressure us for the sale or bash on the competition (like some reps from other companies had done) which made us feel very at ease with the whole situation. The price was pretty much the same as the other companies we'd talked to but the Costco promo and rebates ended up making Roth significantly cheaper. Even during such a busy time (the temperature had been in the upper 80's for quite a while) they were able to schedule our installation for a little over a week after we signed with them. Jason and the installation team arrived right on time on installation day. Jason went over the installation options offering his suggestion for what he thought would be the best way to run the line from the A/C unit to the furnace but ultimately left the decision up to me (which I appreciated). The installation team were all very friendly and didn't seem to mind that I was hovering around them asking questions about what they were doing as they worked. They also went out of their way to do little things like tighten screws on our furnace which weren't necessarily part of their job. They worked quickly and efficiently and made sure to clean up after themselves when they were done. The whole experience with Roth was pleasant from beginning to end and I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing any HVAC services. read more

I called Roth Heating really not knowing what kind of service I would be getting. It couldn't possibly be any worse then the other three companies I had already tried. Stay away from Pioneer. I have a Heat N Glo fireplace that needed servicing and no one so far had been able to figure out how to get the glass front off so it could be accessed and cleaned. I was told by the last three guys that the fireplace had been put in wrong when they built the home. I was going to have to break the tile on the face and actually get into the chimney to get to the insert. This is what I had told Roth that I thought I was going to have to do. After all I had had three professionals tell me that. Dale was my serviceman from Roth and he was right on time, even called to confirm. First thing he did was put the covers over his shoes and believe me they don't all do that. He had all his own equipment including rags. I told Dale what the other guys had said and cringed but told him to go ahead and do what he had to do. I just wanted my fireplace to work. Within twenty minutes I heard kind of a loud noise so I went to see what was going on. Guess what? Dale had the glass off without doing any other damage. I couldn't believe it! I was so happy! He just saved me a TON of money and time. To make a long story short, I needed two small parts specially ordered. Dale was back within two weeks and my Heat N Glo is working GREAT! We'd been dealing with flickering lights for months, but over the weekend (yes - the snow weekend), it got worse. We woke up Sunday to a horrid smell coming from the breaker box and the lights were flickering off and on. We decided it was something that couldn't wait. We called Roth and Carl showed up at our door at 8:30 Monday morning. He was very professional, but incredibly nice. He inspected all the breakers in the house and traced the problem to a dry cellar that he had to use a crow bar to get into (the trap door was frozen shut). He found 3 switch boxes that had melted so badly, the corners of them had broken off. All were of different sizes (of course), so he had to go to the parts store to finish the job. He ended up having to go to Wilsonville and Tigard to get the parts. He came back, still with a smile on his face, and replaced all three, testing all of the breakers before leaving, ensuring everything was working 100%. He provided me our options and estimates prior to doing any work. He did not pressure me to make a decision either way and made sure I was comfortable with his work before he left. I would not hesitate to call Roth for any electrical issue, and I would specifically request Carl. From the first contact (through Costco) by Roth representatives, they were profession, prompt, friendly, knowledgeable and conscientious. First person came out to discuss our needs, which was a bit more complicated due to an upcoming remodel we're planning that will expand the area of the home. He quickly grasped what we were needing to do and within a day or two came back with a three option estimate. We picked the option we felt was best and then within a few days had another person come out and measure to ensure that they had all the right parts when the installers came out. Finally, the installers came out and did all the work to our great satisfaction within less than 2 days (on the days we choose that were best for us). The workmanship was excellent, they found some wiring that had to be upgraded and took care of it and fully tuned and balanced the system along with instructing us on the system operation. They had a circuit board that was DOA on the blower unit, which they took care of during the installation process - they had one in stock and quickly replaced the bad one that had come from the factory. Based upon this, we will have them out for the remodel to rebuild the ductwork with the new house layout. Roth is our HVAC company of choice based upon their great work and our experience with all of the staff that we talked to and interacted with on this project. read more

We've been really happy with Roth. They've done our yearly maintenance on our propane furnace for several years and have always been great with that. We just had them install whole house A/C last friday and again, they were just so nice to work with. Sam and Dustin did the A/C unit install and did a nice, clean job. Sam gave me a ton of advice on the new unit as well as other useful advice on how to convert over from our propane to now available natural gas on our street. Kevin did the electrical and made the choice to wire it into the main panel instead of the addition subpanel because though the subpanel had enough amps (barely) and was only feet away from the unit - if he wired it there we probably would cause a good blink on the addition lights when the unit turned on. I was impressed that he made that choice instead of going cheap on the install - as the bid did assume wiring it into the subpanel. Kevin had to do a lot more work to string a new heavy gauge wire 50 feet in the crawlspace to make that work out. I haven't yet had anyone from Roth show up that wasn't competent and just plain easy and nice to work with and showed up when they said they would. I used to think of Roth for just HVAC, but after this last trip I think I found who I'll call the next time I need an electrician. Kevin was really good. read more

I give them three stars due to the fact that on the new installation they had to come back 4 times to complete the installation. Installation happened on Monday, they had a power issue and had a get another transformer, that didn't get installed until Friday. Friday the system worked fine, but on Saturday the system would start up and then shut down. They had to send out another tech on Saturday to apparently refill the system due to a bubble in the system that caused it to not pressurize correctly and shuts down to prevent damage. They had to have them come back out almost 2 weeks later to install a baffling around the fan to keep the air flow controlled and be more efficient (why this wasn't installed on day one, I don't know), and when they did this they didn't test the system and had a wiring issue causing the unit to not power on. Had to have a tech come back out on Saturday again to determine the problem and rewire what they did on the day before when they installed the baffling. Overall not the best install job. I think that each tech was polite and respectful, however the fact that the job was not complete, and 100% tested the first time is what bugged me. Price was fair, and they did not charge for any of the return trips. read more

I got 4 proposals for replacing my 19-year-old heat pump system, including Roth as the referral from Costco and one other contractor who also uses Lennox.. The other two contractors use York and Carrier. (All of them told me the installer's expertise was more important than the brand of equipment even though they all prefer the brand they proposed.) I chose Roth primarily because they were more prepared to help me receive the tax and other energy-related rebates and because Costco further subsidizes the cost. I'm hoping the Costco connection also means that the Lennox equipment is good quality. I was also at least equally impressed with their staff who planned the project. The installation took place this week, February 10-12, 2014, and they did exactly what they said they would do and the equipment is working as well as expected. The lead technician, Sam Livesay, did an excellent job and kept me informed all along the way. They had as many as 5 people here at one point, including their in-house electrician. I'm hoping that the Lennox equipment performs as well as Roth has so far. read more

About a year ago we were looking to get a new heat pump and ac system installed. Our sales associate provided two separate quotes. One was through Costco as we reached out to them for a quote. The other quote was from Roth's. When all said and done the quote was over 13,000 for all this work to be done. He had the model numbers on the quote. As he was sharing his quote with me, I was typing in the model number. As the model popped up, the unit was $2500. They said it was Roth's product. I think they just put their name on it. Anyways, I showed him the exact product and the same model number online. I asked why would you overcharge so much to a customer? His response was to make a profit. I understand every company needs to make money. We hired a professional in the business and got our heat pump and ac unit installed fir $4,500 last November. My point is, do not go through this company. Our house was maintained from Roth's for over 30 years and a quote for 13,000 was a slap in the face. I shook his hand after I looked up the model number and after his statement, asked him to leave. read more

Chris A. came to repair a blown out digital timer. He was so professional and courteous- great communication to let me know ahead of time when he would arrive, friendly and courteous greeting, listened well to both me and to my father in describing the problem. He did a thorough job of inspecting the area, and then diagnosing what went wrong. I felt that we were in good, safe, and careful hands. He also went above and beyond in recognizing and accommodating me as a customer with a small child- I kept needing to attend to my son, and Chris was really patient and friendly in letting me know how he was going to keep the area safe for my son, as well as what he was doing to test the area for safety. I appreciated it so much. The area was left neat and clean. Chris asked if I had any other needs and I will soon have Roth come out to look at some plumbing, air duct, and other electrical work. We just had our AC & furnace cleaned and tuned up by Dan S at Roth's. My experience started with a very friendly and helpful lady who walked me through what I needed to know about the service I was requesting and then we scheduled an appointment. The morning of the appointment, the office called to let me know who it was they were sending and approximately how long it would take for him to get to my home. I loved that! Unfortunately, in today's world you can never be sure who's knocking on your door, and after that call I knew exactly who it was going to be! When Dan S arrived at my home, he introduced himself, gave me his card, and put shoe coverings on before walking in! When he was finished with the work, he took the time to sit and explain all that he did and give me his recommendations. He didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need or tell me I needed stuff I really didn't. I was very impressed with his professionalism. We will definitely continue using Roth's and most definitely continue asking for Dan! read more

Have been using Roth for several years. Bid out a large scale furnace and A/C rehaul with several companies and selected Roth. They were able to best address our climate management challenges (tree-levels with very different temperature zones) with a reasonable solution without overselling. Their installation team was very good. The result significantly improved our indoor climate, but in all honesty did not reduce our overall utility costs (as they indicated - but that wasn't the primary driver of our decision anyhow). Since installation, their service team has always been prompt, professional and efficient. Today Rick serviced our furnace and was very professional and thorough in his communications. They always mention the service plan, which we are on, but without being pushy. It seems like every year there is a change to this plan and the way it works. Considering that, I would prefer the changes outlined in a flyer (before and after) so I can review them each year. read more

Allen was professional and efficient. He had the old water heater out and the new one in. He was patient, kind, polite, respectful, and professional. I was trying to install Nest thermostat and I did something wrong during the installation steps. Because of this, the HVAC system wouldn't come up even if I use my old thermostat. I called Brian and he was super quick to identify the problem with my HVAC system. He knew in the first 60 seconds I described the issue and he fixed the problem in no time OVER THE PHONE! I waited for 4 days to troubleshoot myself. I should've just called Brian earlier. He was very patient to answer all my questions, and prompt to answer my calls and text messages. Brain told me I have a blown fuse and advised me to check few things over the phone before I pay him for this visit. I really appreciate Brian's professionalism and his knowledge for the HVAC system.
